Frances I. Flanders, formerly of Fort Plain, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, N.Y.. Her loving family was by her side. She was born in Fort Plain, N.Y. at her family's home on January 31, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mamie McCauley Lawson. Frances graduated from Fort Plain High School and worked for various local businesses. She married Harley T. "Pete" Flanders on August 1, 1942. She and Pete shared a beautiful union of 38 years until his passing in 1980. Frances was a home maker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Frances was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially the holidays. Her lifelong love to play card games kept her family happy and together.
Her childhood dream was to be a mom. This goal was a legacy she perfected for three generations. Her loving family includes: daughters, Barbara A. Smith ("Whitey") of Fort Plain, Judy M. Rice (Thomas) of Plattsburgh and Betty Flanders (Stephen) of Northville; a daughter-in-law Catherine; beloved grandchildren Jeffery T. Smith (Becky), Davida Underbrink (Ralph), Michael Flanders, Colleen Williams (Douglas), Brian Flanders (Heather), Kimberly Rice, Kelly Santor (Jeffrey), Ryan Gander (Lynde) and Jason Gander (Sadie). Ten great-grandchildren also survive. She was predeceased by her son, Larry T. Flanders, and a sister Betty Knoeck.
A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, New York, at 11a.m. The Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to visit two hours prior to the Mass at the church, beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.

FORT PLAIN — Miss Frances Irene Lawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawson, and Harley Thomas Flanders, son or Mrs. Agnes Anderson, were married Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at St. James' Catholic church by Fr. Theodore Themin, pastor. They were attended by Miss Betty Jane Lawson, sister of the bride, and Bernard Flanders, both of Fort Plain.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a white satin gown and a tiara with pearls, from which fell a fingertip veil of illusion. She carried a boquet of deep pink roses with baby's breath. Her sister wore a aqua taffeta gown and a tiara and carried red roses. The mothers of the bride and bridegroom both wore dark blue with white accesories and corsages of red roses.
The church was decorated with gladioli and a program of nuptial music was played during the ceremony. Miss Anna Graves, Fort Plain. sang "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus."
A reception was held at the bride's home, following the ceremony, after which the bride and bridegroom left on a wedding trip to Niagara Falls. For traveling the bride wore a black and white crepe suit with white turban and a corsage of red roses. The couple will reside on South street, Fort Plain.
Mrs. Flanders attended the Fort Plain High school and is employed in the Luxtiray Mill, Fort Plain. The bridegroom attended the Fort Plain High school and is emploved at Arkell and Smith, Canajoharie.

FORT PLAIN — Miss Judy M. Flanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley T. Flanders, Fort Plain, was united in marriage to Thomas G. Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Rice, Fort Plain RD1 at 11 Saturday morning at St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain.
Rev. John J. Sullivan, pastor of that church performed the double ring ceremony. The altar was decorated with vases of white mums and pompons. Miss Judy Austin, St. JohnsVille, was the soloist, singing "We've Only Just Begun," "One Hand, One Heart," "Ave Maria" and "Mother at Your Feet We're Kneeling."
Mary E. Healey, Fort Plain, was the organist.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, wore a white organza gown with a rounded neckline edged with lace. She had full sleves cuffed at the wrist and a fitted empire bodice, sleves and the front of the gown were trimmed with vinetian lace. The skirt ended in a double chapel train.
She wore a Cathedral lenth veil of silk illusion edged with a border of Vinetian lade and caughte to a headpiece of Vinetian lace petals. She carried a cascade bouqte of white carnations.
Mrs. Barbara Smith, Fort Plain, sister of the bride was matron of honor. She wore a gold nylon chiffon gown styled with a high neckline, long puffed sleeves i and an A-line skirt. The neck cuffs and empire waistline were trimmed with a band of gold embroidery.
She wore a petal headpiece of silk illusion with a veil to match her gown. She carried a Colonial bouquet of yellow carnations accented with orange flowers and gold satin stramers.
Mis Betty Lee Flanders, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Miss Linda Mice, sister of the bridegroom and Miss Joan Vesp, all of Fort Plain, were bridesmaids. They wore identical outfits in moss green chiffon and wore petal headpieces of silk illusion with moss green veils.
They carried Colonial bouquets of yellow carnations accented with green star flowers and moss green satin streamers.
Miss Davida Flanders, niece of the bride, was miniature bride. She wore a white organza gown similar to the bride's, which was styled and made by her mother, Mrs. Larry Flanders. She had a white mantilla and carried a basket of yellow carnations accented and tied with white satin streamers.
Richard Burleigh, Oriskany Falls, was the best man. The ushers included La Verne Smith, Fort Plain, brother-in-law of the bride; Ronald Wilson and Richard Wilson of Fort Plain.
The mother of the bride chose a 2-piece plum colored knit dress with brocaded accessories. She had an orchid hat and gloves set off her ensemble and wore a cymbidium corsage. The bridegroom's mother chose an aqua coat dress with matching accessories and wore a pink cymbidium corsage.

The bride was graduated in 1969 from Fort Plain Central School, and in 1971 and from Adirondack Community College. She is presently employed in the Fort Plain Centreal School as a kindergarten aide.

Mrs. Betty Knoeck, 40 wife of Edward Knoeck, died late Friday morning at her home, 50 Division street, Fort Plain, following a long illness.
She was born February 20, 1925, in Fort Plain, a daughter of Ralph and Mamie McCauley Lawson and was a resident of this village her entire life.
She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain. Mrs. Knoeck also was a member and past president of the Valley Bowling League, Fort Plain.
On March 6, 1943. she was married to Edward Knoeck, who survives; in addition to one daughter Karen, at home; two sons. James in the U. S. Air Force at Sheppard Field, Texas, and John, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawson, Fort Plain; one sister,Mrs. Harley Flanders, Fort Plain; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from Swartz Funeral Home, Fort Plain, and 9:30 a m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Rev. John J. Sullivan celebrating the Mass. Interment will be made in Fort Plain Cemetery later in the spring.

Mrs. Betty Knoeck, 40, wife of Edward Knoeck, died yesterday at her home, 50 Division street, after a long illness.
Mrs. Knoect was a lifelong resident of Fort Plain. She was a communicant of St. James Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Karen, of Fort Plain; two sons, James, serving in Texas with the Air Force, and John, residing at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawson of Fort Plain; a sister, Mrs. Harley Flanders of Fort Plain, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.- NOTE: (Find A Grave)
Betty owned and operated the "Betty's Snack Bar" in Fort Plain from 1963-1964 but sold it due to ill health. She died the following year.

FORT PLAIN, March 8 — Miss Betty Jane Lawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Lawson. Fort Plain, and Edward C. Knoeck. son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Knoeck, Fort Plain. R. D., were united in marriage Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in St. James' Church. The ceremony was performed by the pastor, the Rev. Theodore J. Themm.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attended by her sister, Mrs. Harley Flanders, of this village. Leonard LaGrange, Canajoharie, was best man. The church was decorated with Easter Lilies. The nuptial music was played by Mrs. E. W. Currier, and Mrs. William Graves sang "Ave Maria."
The bride was gowned in white lace, with train, a three-quarter length veil attached to a pearl tiara, and she carried red roses. Mrs. Flanders wire a gown of blue chiffon and blue tiara, and carried pink roses and baby's-breath.
The bride's mother wore a black and white ensemble with matching accessories, and a corsage of gardenias and sweet peas, while the mother of the bridegroom was attired in navy blue with corresponding accessories and also had a corsage of gardenias and sweet peas.
A reception attended by 100 guests was held at the home of the bride's parents, South Street. Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Knoeck left for New York. The bride wore a tan suit with brown accessories. On their return they will reside with the bride's parents. The bridegroom will soon be inducted into the Army.
The bride was honored at two showers, given by Mrs. Ralph Lawson and Mrs. Edwin Knoeck and by Miss Millie Westerman.

- Harold J Berry Jr., as a boy worked at the farm owned by Levi Yauney. This farm was the site of the Octogan Barn built by Yauney. The barn burned in 1948 and was located near NYS Rt. 10. and the site of the Getman Historical Monument. From this barn the cemetery is known as the "Round Barn Cemetery".

A buffet luncheon was served. Decorations were in blue, white and yellow. Games were played and prizes awarded. Miss Shutts received gifts and a purse of money.

The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Edward Hill of Canajoharie, wore a full length gown of white silk organza draped over taffeta. Her high rise neckline was adorned with a wedding ring collar of scalloped venise lace.
The fitted bodice was accented with lace appliques and encrusted with pearls, and her long puffed sleeves ended in deep lace cuffs. The A-line skirt was designed with venise lace appliques throughout and ended in a cathedral length train. Scalloped venise lace accented the entire hemline.
From her Camelot headpiece fell a matching mantilla.
Mrs. Margaret Filmer of Canajoharie was matron of honor, attired in a gown of aqua floral design, organza over taffeta, with a portrait neckline, halter bodice, controlled skirt, and matching fitted jacket with capelet.
She wore a matching picture hat and carried a bouquet of daisies with baby's breath, an aqua ribbon draped from the flowers.
Her other attendants included Miss Dede Feeney, in a gown of maize floral over maize taffeta; Miss Linda Piece, candy floral over candy taffeta; and Mrs.Deborah Baker, pink floral over pink taffeta; all of St. Johnsville.
Their flowers were bouquets of daisies and baby's breath with a ribbon draped from the flowers, matching the color of their gowns.
Harold Berry III of Mayfield, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Robert W. Hill, brother of the bride; James Berry, brother of the bridegroom; and Maynard Baker, all of St. Johnsville.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Hill wore a mint green polyester gown with floral jacket. She wore white accessories and orchid flowers.
The mother of the bridegroom wore a blue polyester floor length gown with cape sleeves, white accessories, and orchid flowers.
A reception for 125 was held at the Rainbow Restaurant, Johnstown, with music by the Country Strings and guests from Gloversville, Johnstown, Ephratah, Amsterdam, Canajoharie, and Massachusetts.
For traveling to Indian Lake, the bride chose a blue pant suit with white accessories, and red roses. The couple will reside at St. Johnsville RD1.
The bride is a Johnstown High School graduate, and the bridegroom attended Johnstown High School and works at Milligan and Higgins, Johnstown.
