  Michael F. Sabo, 58, of 19 Hilton Drive, East Hartford, died Sunday (May 24) suddenly in Keene, N.H. He was born in Schenectady, N.Y, and had lived in East Hartford for many years. He was a Foreman at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, having been employed there for the past 33 years. Mr. Sabo was a member of the Hi-Groove Speedway Association of Winchester, N.H., and was a Tech Inspector at the speedway. He leaves his wife, Brenda (Grinter) Sabo of East Hartford; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Brenda J. Sabo of East Hartford, Matthew J. and Rebecca J. Sabo of East Hartford, and David Mitchell Sabo of Wolcott; three grandchildren, Michael G., Jason R. and Chad R. Sabo; his mother, Jane (DeGriff (sic)) Sabo of East Hartford. Funeral services will be Friday, May 29, at a time to be announced. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Marriage Notes for William Veeder Bartlett and Edith Marguerite Weaver

 - Wedding Announcement (The Leader-Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Tuesday, April 19, 1955)
  Dr. William Veeder Bartlett of this city and Miss Edith Marguerite Weaver of Schenectady, were united in marriage at a pretty spring nuptial event Saturday afternoon in the latter city.
  The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Bartlett, South Melcher Street Extension, and the bride is a daughter of Mrs. Caius E. Weaver of Waverly Place.
  Th e ceremony was solemnlzed at 3 in Union Presbyterian Church by Rev. Willard E. Rice. Robert H. Denham was at the organ and Herbert S. Pryce was soloist.
  White gladioli and pink snapdragons were used in the decorations.
  The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Donald E. Weaver of Auburn.
   Her gown was fashioned with a wlute lace bodice Having an illusion neckline, long lace sleeves and satin skirt. A Juliet cap of lace and satin held in place her fingertip veil. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and freesia with a removable corsage of pink sweetheart roses, and streamers of pink and white with rosebuds and ivy leaves.
  The matron of honor, Mrs. Robert C. Miller, wore a gown of pink-lilac crystallette. Mrs. Donald E. Weaver of Auburn and Miss Clara B. Sedgwick of Schenectady the other bridal atendants, wore gowns of pale Nile green crystallette.
  Attendants carried shower bouquets of spring flowers and wore bands erf ivy leaves as hair ornaments.
  Dr. George Dean Vlahides was best man. The ushers included Dr. William J. Jameson Jr., Dr. William C. Frederick, Dr. Howard J. Vestney and H. Lane Smith of Providence, RI.
  The mother of the bride received in a gown of dusty rose with white accessories and a corsage of spring flowers at the reception which followed in the church parlors. Spring flowers were also employed in decorations for the reception.
  The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue gown with pink accessories and corsage of pink sweetheart roses.
   After May 1, following a motortrip through New England, Dr. and Mrs. Bartlett will reside at 1520 Nott Street, Schenectady. The bride a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Ellis Hospital Training School for Nurses, has been emoloyed as an anesthetist at Ellis Hospital.
  Dr. Bartlett holds an AB degree from Hamilton College and MD from New York Medical College in New York city. He served his internship and is now assistant resident in medicine, at Ellis Hospital. He served three years in World war 2 with the Army Air corps, in Burma and India.

  Obituary: WHISPERING PINES - William C. Bateman, 85, of Whispering Pines, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2012. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Bateman; father, Lawrence M. Bateman; mother, Grace D. Bateman; and sisters; Martha Beebe, Anne Buhler and Janet Bateman.
   Bill is survived by his sons, William C. Bateman (Joanna) of Essex, N.Y., Lawrence C. Bateman of Whispering Pines, and David W. Bateman (Lisa) of Shawnee, Kan.; daughter, Sharon L. Taylor of Rome, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Bateman; two sisters, Margaret Cook and Helen Rice; and his many friends he made through the years.
  Bill was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Mexico, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician's mate on the USS Minnesota in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He graduated from Clarkson College of Technology with a degree in engineering. Bill was a professional electrical engineer and former partner of BEC Electric Co. Inc. from 1958 to 1980. He was active in the Syracuse community as a member of the Optimist Club. Bill and Gloria moved to Hilton Head Island, S.C., in 1980, where he worked as a consulting electrical engineer. He was also a board member of the Palmetto Electric Cooperative and an active member of the Rotary Club. In 1993, they retired to Whispering Pines.   Miaa Gloria Bartlett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Bartlett, extension of South Melcher street, was married to William C. Bateman of Mexico, N. Y, in a double ring ceremony performed Saturday afternoon at 2 at the home of the bride's parents by the Rev. Raymond A. Ketchledge.
  Mr. and Mra. John O'Rourke of Schenectady rendered traditional wedding music. Accompanied at the piano by his wife, Mr. O'Rourke sang "Because," "O Promise Me," and several other selections. Mrs. O'Rourke played Lohengrin's wedding march.
  Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a satin and all over lace bouffant gown with a drop shoulder neckline with illusion net and a fingertip veil held in place by a lace cap. She carried a white orchid with lily of the valley.
  Miss Joan Coe of Staten Island, a college classmate of the bride, was maid of honor. She was dressed in a coral gown with matching headdress and carried an old fashoned bouquet.
  Mr. Bateman had as his best man Donald Fenner of Mexico.
  The bride's mother wore a street length dress of winter crepe and a coursage of white camelias. The mother of the  bridegroom was dressed in a brown crepe dress with a cortage of white camelias.
  Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. The house was attractively decorated for the occasion with cut flowers and ferns.
  As her going away outfit the bride chose an aqua suit with cocoa tone accessories and a white orchid corsage.
  After a weddingtrip to Cape Cod the newlyweds will reside in Buffalo, where the bridegroom is employed as an electrical engineer with the Ford Motor company.
  The bride was graduated from Johnstown High school with the class of 1948 and has since attended Oswego State Teachers' college. The bridegroom is a graduate of Clarkson Institute of Technology and a veteran of two years aervice in the U. S. Navy.
  Out-of-town guests were present from New York city, Rome, Mexico, Schenectady, Plattsburg, Uticda, Gloversville, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Wilmington, Delaware.

  Miss Beverly Ann Sharr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Sharr of Plainville, Conn., and Donald F. Perham. son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer F. Perham of 21 Franklin Street, Gloversville, were married on Aug. 1 in Our Lady of Mercy Church at Plainville by Rev. Edward Mucha.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. Miss Joyce Leaviston of Manchester, Conn, was maid of honor while Miss Mary Elizabeth Tucker of Plainville, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. The bride's brother, Thomas Sharr, was ring bearer.
  Edward Fogarty of East Hartford was best man, and ushers were Nicholas Sharr and Albert Pedroline, brother and cousin of the bride.
  The bride is a graduate of St. Anthony's High School, Bristol, Conn., and the bridegroom was graduated from Gloversville High School in 1948. He served four years in the Air Force and attended Utica College.
  The couple are employed in the engineering branch of Pratt Whitney plant of United Aircraft at East Hartford. After a trip through Canada and Northern New York State, they took up residence in East Hartford.

  Scott G. Perham, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Perham of Manchester, Conn., the former a native of Gloversville, died at 6:23 Thursday night at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Boston, Mass. He had been ill with cystic fibrosis since birth.
  Survivors besides his parents are one brother, Tod, at home his paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Elmer F. Perham of Glovertsville and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Sharr of Plainville, Conn.
  A Mass of Angels for the boy was held at 10 Saturday morning at the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Manchester. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plainville, Conn.

  Mrs. Helen M. Griffis, age 90, of Mayfield, died Monday, June 16, 2008 following a long illness. She was born March 20, 1918 in Riceville (Town of Mayfield), the daughter of the late Ivan and Florence VanAvery Wemple. A graduate of Gloversville High School, Helen also attended the former Gloversville Business School. She was employed as a bookkeeper for 24 years at Alvord Glove Company and Alvord's House of Leather in Mayfield. A homemaker for many years, she also was secretary for the Clerk of The Works when the Mayfield High School was built. Mrs. Griffis is survived by her husband, DeWitt B. Griffis of Mayfield, whom she married on May 30, 1987. She is also survived by a daughter, Beth A. Potter (Larry) of Gloversville; a son, William L. Barker (Karen) of Leavenworth, Kansas; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Hoover (Kenneth) of Gloversville; two sisters, Mildred Ellithorpe of Mayfield and Ruth Boyle of Florida; seven grandchildren, Cherise Anadio, Kate Cykoff, Charles Potter, Sara Perault, Timothy Barker, DeWitt Hoover and Grace Paster; eight great-grandchildren; a cousin, Pauline Bell of Mayfield; several nieces and nephews. Her first husband, George W. Barker, whom she married on March 23, 1940, died on October 9, 1980. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Wemple; and a sister, June Wadsworth. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19th, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206-2083.

Dewitt Brown Griffis

  Dewitt Griffis, son of Byron and Alice Teetz Griffis.
  Served in the U.S. Navy in WWII on the U.S.S. Egeria in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He received several medals.
  On August 23, 1939, DeWitt married the former Grace Gabber. She predeceased him on December 10, 1986.
   He married Helen Barker on May 30, 1987. She predeceased him on June 16, 2008.

  Ruth Ellen (Wemple) Boyle, 97, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 12, 2017, at East Ridge Retirement Community in Cutler Bay, Florida.
  She was born November 5, 1919, in Riceville, New York and was the second of five children. She graduated from Gloversville High School and Gloversville Business School. She worked for several years as a secretary at Van Buren’s Glove Shop in Mayfield, New York, and during World War II she worked as a secretary in the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C.
  She was united in marriage on July 17, 1942, to Woodrow W. Boyle, who preceded her in death March 5, 2006. They were married for sixty-three blissful years.
  Ruth enjoyed bowling, dancing, preparing meals for family, participating in church related activities, and being with family.
  She is survived by her children and spouses, Charles Boyle of Macedon, NY, Cathy Boyle of Titusville FL, Nathan (Cindy) Boyle of Cutler Bay, FL, Naomi Boyle of Olathe, KS, Mark (Katy) Boyle of Palmetto Bay, FL; sister, Mildred Ellithorpe of Gloversville, NY; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Ivan Wemple; siblings, Helen Barker Griffis, June Wadsworth, Richard Wemple; and daughter-in-law, Mary Boyle.
  A Christian service of burial will be held at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Florida.

  Woodrow W. Boyle PORT ST. LUCIE
   Woodrow W. "Woody" Boyle, 87, died March 5, 2006, at Emerald Healthcare in Port St. Lucie. He was born in Palatine, NY, and lived in Port St. Lucie for 15 years, coming from Ocala.
   He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater with the First Division Engineers Battalion Co. A, known as The Big Red One.
   Before retirement, he owned Polar Bar Co., in Gloversville, NY, and Air Master Co., in Miami from 1955 to 1971, when he retired to Mayfield, NY.
   He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4209 of Ocala and Disabled American Veterans of Port St. Lucie, former member of Fish House Masonic Order in Northville, NY, past president of Greater Miami Chapter of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, and served on the Board of Education of both Mayfield Central School and Fulton County Board of Cooperational Educational Services in New York.
   He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie.
   Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth E.; sons, Charles Boyle of Macedon, NY. and Nathan and Mark Boyle of Miami; daughters, Cathy Boyle of Titusville and Naomi Boyle of Olatha, KS; stepsister, Louise Clark of Gloversville, NY; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven siblings.
   SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. March 7 at Byrd, Young and Prill Port St. Lucie Funeral Home. A service will be at 9 a.m. March 8 at the funeral home with the Rev. Rich Edwards officiating.
   Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. March 8 at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala with the Rev. Daniel Jones officiating and military honors provided by the Army.

  Mildred A. Ellithorpe, 93, formerly of Birch Lane, Gloversville passed away on Sunday October 21, 2018 at Pineview Commons, Johnstown.
  She was born in Riceville on September 18, 1925 a daughter of Ivan and Florence VanAvery Wemple and was a 1942 graduate of Mayfield High School. Mildred was a sophomore when the high school opened its brand new doors. She was a lifelong Myfield resident.
  Mildred was in an accelerated program at business school during wartime, and worked in glove shops in her early work days. Later, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Warden Leather, formerly of Gloversville, retiring in 1987.
  Mrs. Ellithorpe was a member of the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church.
  Mildred was a talented seamtress and enjoyed making clothing for her daughters.
   She was a member of the Bannertown Senior Citizens, a member of the Monday afternoon Bridge Club, and belonged to several area bowling leagues when she was younger.
   Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, June Wadsworth, Helen Griffis, and Ruth Boyle; a brother, Richard Wemple; two daughters, Linda J. DeRocker and Amy L. Seeley, and a granddaughter, Tracey Halloran.
  Survivors include a daughter MerryAnn Ellithorpe, and her fiancé, Kyle Nickerson of Merrimack, NH; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
  Burial will be in the Mayfield Cemetery.

  MAYFIELD—Miss Mildred Wemple, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wemple of Riceville, became the bride of Pvt. John Ellithorpe, of the U. S. army, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ellithorpe of 13 West Main street, Saturday night at 8.
  The ceremony was performed at the bride's home by the Rev. Fred L. Decker, D. D., of the Methodist church, before an American flag and under a canopy of red, white and blue.
  Before the ceremony, Miss Beatrice Thompson, a cousin of the bride, sang "I Love You Truly" and "O Promise Me" accompanied oh the piano by Miss Irene Asqulth, who also played the wedding marches.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father, and she was lovely in a white satin gown with train. The bodice of her gown was shirred and the sweetheart neck was caught at either side with orange blossoms. Her veil of net fell from a cornet of pearl orange blossoms. She carried a bonquet of white carnations with satin streamers.
  The matron of honor was Mrs. George Barker, Jr., sister of the bride and she wore a pink taffeta gown with sweetheart neck and a pink net head dress and carried deep pink carnations. Miss June Wemple, a sister, and maid of honor, wore blue taffeta with square neck and a blue net headdress and carried pale pink carnations. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Woodrow Boyle of Washington, D. C, a sister of the bride who wore pink and Miss Pauline Eschler, a cousin of the bride, who wore blue. The bridesmaids wore identical gowns of satin, sweetheart necks, shirred with net over satin skirts. Both wore head dresses to match and carried bouquets of pale pink carnations.
   The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Delos Ellithorpe and Harold Richardson.
  The bride's mother wore luggage tan print, and the bridegroom's navy silk with white trimming. Both wore corsages of white carnations.
   The bride and bridegroom presented their attendants with personal gifts.
  After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride. At the bride's table a six layer wedding cake adorned the center. Misses Kathryn Wemple, Jeannette Leonard, Rae Phillips, Jean De Golyer. Gertrude Brown and June Reed, served.
   Mrs. Ellithorpe was graduated from the Mayfleld Central High school with the class of '42 and from the Gloversville Business school class of '43. She was active in the school activities and was cheer leader for three years, a member of the basketball team, and band and the choir. She is employed in the office of the White Wringer Mop Co. in Fultonville.
  Pvt. Ellithorpe attended Mayfleld Central school and was active in many sports during his school and after.
  The bride's going away outfit was a blue wool dress, trimmed with cuffs and collar of gray Persian lamb.
  At the expiration of Pvt. Elllthorpe's furlough he will go to Fort George G. Meade in Maryland and Mrs. Ellithorpe will reside with her parents for the duration.
  The out of town guests included: Leila Wemple, Guy Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Perham, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Berard, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Berard, Miss Irene Asquith, Miss Beatrice Thompson, Miss Florence Wilcox all of Gloversville, Mr. and Mra.   Mrs. Francis w. Murphy was her sister's matron of honor. Robert Whalen of New York City was best man, and ushers were Bruce Wemple of Mayfield, and Leon Masters of Skaneateles.
  Following the wedding, a reception was held in the church social rooms. Later the couple departed for Cape Cod, Mass. They will live in Canajoharie where they will both teach in the Canajoharie Central School. they are both graduates of State Teachers College in Albany.

  Sue Wemple departed this earth on July 6, 2017, surrounded by family and following a long battle with numerous health issues that she battled with an indominable spirit and resolve.
  Sue was born March 5, 1939, to William and Arbutus Mortimer, one of eight children. She attended Fonda and Mayfield schools. Having been a lifetime resident of the Gloversville-Johnstown area, she moved to the Capital Region to be closer to family and her doctors. Sue had moved to Lakewood, Colorado in May of 2016 and resided with her grandson and his fiancee. She counted it as an adventure of her lifetime.
  Sue married William Hespelt Jr. in 1955. They had one daughter, Billie C. Hespelt Boucher, and divorced in 1979. She married the love of her life, Richard Wemple on July 4th, 1981. Together they traveled, spent time on their cabin cruiser and enjoyed their grandsons until his death in 1994.
  Sue took great pride in getting her GED and returning to college at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, earning her AS degree in Secretarial Sciences in 1975. She worked first for Jim Martin at his insurance agency in Gloversville, then moved on to City National Bank, and, finally to her much-loved position as secretary to the Assistant Principal at Gloversville High School and then secretary at Boulevard Elementary. She earned many accolades for her dedication and outstanding attention to detail in each of her positions. Rheumatoid Arthritis brought an early retirement to her secretarial career, but allowed her to be a full-time Gram to Nicholas and Dylan Boucher and, later, Gramma Sue to Corey and Alex Wemple. That was her pride and joy as she loved all children and could be found cooing over any babies she encountered. She will be loved and deeply missed by her family and many friends.
  Sue was a member of the Mayfield and Johnstown Presbyterian churches.

Survivors include her daughter, Billie Boucher (Michael Ryan); stepson, Ivan L. Wemple (Colleen); grandchildren, Nicholas (Angela Timmerman) and Dylan (Emily Babcock) Boucher, Corey and Alexandra Wemple; three sisters, Marilyn (Bart) DeRizzo, Kathe (Steve Pavlus) and Judy (Loren) Baker; one brother, Raymond Mortimer of Seattle, Washington; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, husbands and brother, Larry Mortimer; two sisters, Audrey Calhoun and Toni Hawes; dear friends, Mary Lafoe and Martha Kodra.
