- Obituary (Find A Grave / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Dec. 10, 2019)
Goodale, Bruce Albert age 93, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Windsor, CT, passed away after a brief illness on December 8, with all four of his children at his bedside.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jane (Campbell) Goodale, who was the love of his life.
Bruce and Jane were residents of Windsor, CT for 51 years and moved to Pittsburgh in 2012.
Bruce was born January 22, 1926, in Hartford, CT, the son of Albert and Irene (Saunders) Goodale.
He attended Mount Hermon prep school in order to graduate early and enlist in WWII as soon as he turned 18, and proudly served in the Army Air Force as an Aviation Cadet.
After the war, Bruce attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the G.I. Bill and received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering.
Bruce entered the fledgling helicopter industry and worked for startups Doman Helicopters and Omega Aircraft before joining Kaman Aircraft in 1959, where he served as Project Engineer, Program Manager, and eventually worldwide Marketing Manager.
He was a member of The American Helicopter Society (twice VP) and the American Wind Energy Association.
In the 37 years that he worked at Kaman, he traveled to over 30 countries, and he and Jane had extraordinary experiences exploring and making friends on virtually every continent.
Bruce was a dedicated Rotarian, with 29 years of perfect attendance at Windsor Rotary Club and at Rotary meetings in locations around the world while on his travels.
He was also a member of The First Church of Windsor (UCC), the Windsor Historical Society, and the New England Air Museum, and did AARP tax counseling for the elderly.
He was an avid sports fan and golfer, taking great joy in playing golf with his sons and son-in-law.
He also enjoyed genealogy and discovered that he was a direct descendant of Windsor founders Wolcott and Bissell.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, employee, and friend.
His retirement plaque included the phrase "For Always Making It Happen".
This summed him up, as he was reliable, loyal, hardworking, and amazingly ethical.
He was also extremely funny, with a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor, and was known for his quick wit.
Above all else he valued family, but he was so loved and respected by all who knew him.
The world has lost a truly wonderful man.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children Christopher Goodale (Sylvia) of South Yarmouth, MA, Stephen Goodale (Joanne) of Mission Viejo, CA, Anne Goodale Kemerer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Andrew Goodale (Cheryl Cummins) of Fernandina Beach, FL.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Point, and particularly Kim Salvio, for the wonderful care, compassion, respect, and friendship that they showed to him over the years.
A celebration of Bruce's life at Providence Point in Pittsburgh, as well as a memorial service in Windsor, CT, will be held at a later time, with details to be announced.
