silk illusion veil was caught to a rhinestone tiarra. She carried a bouquet of white carnations centered with a white orchid.
The maid of honor, Mias Sandra Backus, bridegroom's sister, was attired in a yellow silk organza ballerina-length gown with a white front insert appliqued with yellow flowers. The matching hat held a face veil. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations.
The bridesmaids, Misses Ann Brewer, Carol Henry and Irene Wiernicki, and junior bridesmaid, Janet White bride's sister, wore gowns identical to the maid of honor's. The bouquets were of yellow carnations.
Lynn Backus served his brother as best man. Ushering were William Brewer, John Brewer and George White, bride's brother.
Following a reception in the North Columbia Church parlors, the couple left on a tour of Northern New York.
The new matron attended schools in Kansas City, and graduated from Mohawk Central School. The bridegroom is also a Mohawk Central High School graduate and of Morrisville Technical Institute, where he majored in horticulture. He is employed by the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, and Hubbell's Nurseries.
Pre-nuptial events were given by her attendants, Mrs. George White and Mrs. Charles Backus.

ILION — Miss Elizabeth Jane Robotham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Robotham, 21 View Terrace, on Saturday became the bride of Lynn Backus, son of Mr. anti Mrs. Charles Backus, Mohawk.
The Rev. Carlton Van Ornum, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony in the First Methodist Church. White flowers decorated the church.
Nancy Mosseau was maid of honor and Ronald Backus was best man for his brother
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ice-blue taffeta gown with white accessories. Her flowers were red roses. Her attendant wore a pink taffeta gown fashioned similar to the bride's and her flowers were red roses.
Following a reception in the home of the bride’s parents, the couple left for a wedding trip to Canada, Upon their return they will live on a farm in Spinnerville which is managed by the bridegroom.
The bride is a graduate of Ilion High School with the class of 1956 and the bridegroom graduated from Mohawk Central School in 1954.

MOHAWK - Physicians repaired three holes in the heart of a nine-year-old Mohawk boy who underwent surgery Thursday in Presbyterian Raby's Hospital, New York City.
Edward Backus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Backus, Mohawk RD 1, was reported last night to be in the hospital's intensive care unit.
A family spokesman said the youth came through the operation very well. She said surgeons discovered a third hole in his heart instead of the two tthat they had expected.
It is the second operation for Edward. He underwent open heart surgery in 1966 in Syracuse.
EDWARD is a pupil in Robert Karia's fourht grade class at Fisher Elementary School. He has a sister, Deborah, 12, and three brothers, Lynn Jr., 11; Tom, 4, and Tim, 3.
Edward will be confined to the hospital for at least two weeks before returning home for convalescence. His parents are with him at the hospital.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - COLUMBIA - Sandra M. Herron, age 66, of Hayner Rd., Town of Columbia, Richfield Springs, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 13, 2013.
She was born on August 31, 1946, the daughter of Charles and Reba Backus, and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1965. On June 19, 1971, she was married to Richard T. Herron at St James Church, Ft. Plain. Sandra was employed at Duofold Co. for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Richard T. Herron; her mother-in-law, Genevieve Herron; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard T. Herron, II, and Charissa; three grandchildren, Laina and Richard T. Herron, III, and Kylah Hisert; her brother, Lynn Backus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Ronald Backus.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion.

Frederick Herron was his brother's best man. Ushers were Lynn Backus. Timothy Herron, Theodore Herron. David Herron was ring bearer.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white satin A-line gown with lace trim and empire waistline. She carried an arrangement of white daisy pompons.
The bridal attendants were attired in lavender chiffon over taffeta gowns with lace trim and empire waistlines. They carried daisy pompons, ppurple tinted to match their gowns.
Following a reception from 2:30 to 5:30 p m. at the Columbia Town Hall, the couple will travel to Cape Cod. They will live at Mohawk RD 1, upon their return.
The bride is a graduate of Mohawk Central School and is employed by Duofold Co. in Mohawk. The bridegroom is a graduate of Owen D. Young Central School and is employed by the Allegro Shoe Co., Little Falls.
Showers were given by the bride's co-workers and Mrs. Frederick Herron, Mrs David Smith, Mrs. Charlee Backus and bridal attendants.
Wedding guests attended from New York City, Delhi, Davenport Center, Heuvelton, Rome and Fort Dlx. N.J.

The ceremony was held at the United Methodist Church in Oriskany Falls, with the Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Jr. officiating.
Cynthia was given in marriage by her father, John. The matron of honor, Deborah Curtis, sister of the bride is from North Brookfield. The best man, Peter Pleskach, brother of the groom is from New Brunswick, N.J. The attendants were: Melissa Pleskach escorted by Jerry Pleskach, Susan Jeffers escorted by Jim Engelhart and Rebecca LaFlair escorted by Stephen Pleskach. The ring bearer, Wesley Curtis, is the bride's nephew.
A reception followed at Dibble's Inn, Vernon. After the reception the couple left on a trip to the New England states.
Their new home is in Watertown.
