Mr. Leroy W. Windecker
Schuyler – Mr. Leroy W. Windecker, 87, of Schuyler, passed away, Thursday, August 30, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Schuyler on May 2, 1931, the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Farrington Windecker. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School with the class of 1950. Roy was married to Jane L. Plante on November 19, 1951 in Sts. Peter and Paul’s Church, Frankfort. Jane passed away on May 15, 1982. He was later united in marriage to Linda Smith on August 6, 1983 in Middleville. He would always comment that a man might be lucky enough to marry one great woman, but he was privileged to have married two during his lifetime. Roy was the owner and operator of Windex Farms in Schuyler for many years. He was a third generation dairy farmer, working with his parents and later with his son, Dale. He exemplified work ethic and worked on the farm daily until the age of 85. He was a member of the Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation Board, serving for 27 years, the Grange, The Farm Bureau, OHM Holstein Club, NY Holstein Association, Herkimer County Dairy Herd Improvement Board and served as an Election Board Custodian for the Town of Schuyler for 50 years.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; seven children, Dr. Debra Windecker and her husband, Stephen Geer of Fulton, Alan Windecker of Utica, Patti Sadler and her husband, Jack of Parrottsville, TN, Dale Windecker and his wife, Deborah of Schuyler, James Costello and his wife, Barbara of Herkimer, Melissa Sperry of Herkimer and Kimberly Costello and her wife, Lisa Williams of Selinsgrove, PA; his grandchildren, Teressa, Kyle, Jesse, Kelsee, Kacey, Kayla, Bryce, Sarah, James, Laura, Jessica and Angella, six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Hyer and Shirley Dolan; one brother, Harold Windecker and his son in law, Kelvin Sperry.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 12 noon in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be in Middleville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, September 3 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Tuesday morning from 11:00 until the time of services at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave., Frankfort.
Because of his great love for all animals, especially his adopted dogs Ruby and Dallas, contributions in Roy's memory may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 NY-5S, Mohawk, NY 13407 as well as Oswego City Shelter, 621 E. Seneca St., Oswego, NY 13126. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

FRANKFORT - Mrs. Jane L. Windecker, 49, of R.D. #3, died May 15, at Milton, N.Y., as the result of an auto accident.
She was born in Schuyler, NY., on September 22, 1932, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Seaver Plante, and attended Frankfort Schools. Her marriage to LeRoy Windecker took place in Sts. Peter's & Paul's Church on November 19, 1951.
She was a Herkimer Co-op Insurance Agent, a member of F.H.A., Home Bureau, President of the Schuyler Planning Board, a member of the Schuyler Election Board, E. Schuyler Grange, and the Zoning Board.
Besides her mother, Mrs. Mary Plante, Frankfort, she is survived by her husband, LeRoy; two sons, Alan and Dale, at home; two daughters, Deborah, Cornell University, Ithaca, and Patty at home; four aunts; Mrs. Lucy Vayo, Lowell, Mass., and Mrs. Ted (Eva) Waliski, Monmass, Maine: Mrs John (Helena) Farrell of Utica. Mrs. Howard (Anna) Haman, Utica; one uncle, Mr. William Seaver, Utica; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning 8:45 from the V.J. locovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave, and 9 a.m. from Sts. Peter's & Paul's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. A.B. Cekovsky, Pastor. Interment will be in Middleville Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home will be Monday evening 7-9 and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening 8:30 at the Funeral Home.

SANDY CREEK — Donald E. Stock, 84, of Sandy Creek, died March 20, 2002.
A native of Pompey, he was employed at Schoeller Technical Paper Co., Pulaski. retiring in 1982. He was the owner-operator of a farm in Sandy Creek.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; four daughters, Vickie Stock and Linda Wart, both of Sandy Creek, and Cathy Anderson and Michele Wegzyn, both of Pulaski; three sons. George of Phoenix, Ariz., Jody of Houston, Texas, and Todd of South Carolina; a brother, Roland of Mexico; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek.

Marion Dexter Plumb, age 94, passed away at her home in Mexico, NY on July 22, 2018. Born on August 11, 1923, in Oswego to Earl C. and Ethel F. Dexter, she grew up in Mexico where she graduated from the Mexico Academy and Central School. She went on to study at Wooster College, where she played the flute in the marching band, and Oberlin College. After graduation, she taught kindergarten in Cortland, NY. She met her husband, Harmon H. Plumb, when they were home from college on summer vacation. They were married on July 4, 1946 in Mexico after which they lived in Middlebury, VT and Evanston, IL while her husband completed his graduate studies. A job opportunity took them to the Washington, DC area where they lived in Bethesda and Gaithersburg, MD and raised four children. Marion was a member of the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda and later the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church. She also worked as a teaching assistant at the Whetstone Elementary School in Montgomery Village, Gaithersburg and was actively involved with the Association of American University Women. She and her husband traveled extensively and lived in Sydney, Australia for a year as well. After her husband's death in 1985, Marion split her time every year between Gaithersburg, Maryland and Mexico, New York until two years ago when she moved permanently to her Mexico home. She was actively involved with the Mexico Presbyterian Church through those years and transferred her membership there in 2005. Marion was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1985, her son, Robert Plumb in 2006, her sister, Janis Taylor in 2010 and her brother-in-law, Dean Taylor in 2015.
She is survived by her son, Dexter Plumb (Wanda); her daughters, Priscilla Tassone and Sharon Bowen (Thomas); granddaughters, Laura Plumb, Samantha Bowen (Robert Bastidas), and Chloe Tassone; and her great-granddaughter, Laia Bastidas as well as her nephew, Scott Taylor (Dottie) and niece Kay Miller (Mike).
A memorial service for Marion will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Mexico on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Avenue, Mexico NY.

Janis D. Taylor, 85, died April 16, 2010. She was born in Oswego, New York to Earl and Ethel Dexter. She was graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Oberlin College and earned a Master's degree in elementary education from SUNY at Oswego. She greatly enjoyed a number of years teaching in Evanston, Illinois. Jan's spirit of adventure led her to sail to Europe under the Experiment for International Living program in 1958. In 1959 she ventured to Los Alamos, New Mexico to teach third grade. Soon she met R. Dean Taylor at the First Methodist Church young adults group and they were wed in 1961. They were blessed with two children, Scott and Kay. She devoted the rest of her life to her family and friends. Her passion for playing bridge was well known. Jan's many other interests included camping, family trips in the motor home, skiing, travel, and involvement in her church. She had a deep personal faith. She will also be remembered for her enthusiasm, cheerfulness, genuine caring nature, and positive outlook despite health challenges.
She is survived by her husband Dean, their son Scott and wife Dottie, their daughter Kay and husband Michael Miller, and grandchildren Katelyn, Grant and Erik. Other survivors include her sister Marion Plumb, nieces, and a nephew.

The First Methodist Church, Los Alamos, New Mexico was the setting for the June 24 wedding uniting Miss Janis Dexter and R. Dean Taylor, both of Los Alamos, in the double ring service performed by the Reverend John Klassen.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Dexter was given in marriage by her father, approaching an altar decorated with gladioli and mums. She chose an informal gown of candlelight bouquet taffeta with Italian silk net bodice.
Mrs. Harmon Plumb of Bethesda, Maryland was the sole bridal attendant.
Peter Erickson of Los Alamos was best man for Mr. Taylor and ushers were Garry Schott and Joseph Bubernak.
A reception was held at "The Lodge" patio.
The young couple departed for a wedding trip through Colorado.
Mrs. Taylor taught at Pajarito School. Mr. Taylor is a staff member of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory employed by CMF-9.
The couple will make their home at 980 Nambe Loop, Los Alamos, New Mexico.

HERKIMER - Madeline Helmer Fagan, 95, a lifelong resident of Herkimer, died peacefully on September 2, 2016, surrounded by her children.
Madeline was born in Frankfort on February 19, 1921, and was the first child and only daughter of the late Howard P. and Bessie Francisco Helmer. Madeline grew up on the family farm in Kast Bridge and received her early education in a one-room schoolhouse, progressing so quickly that she was admitted to ninth grade at Herkimer High School at the age of 11. After high school, she attended what was then Albany State Teachers College, receiving a bachelor's degree in education in 1942. She taught school in Margaretville, New York, for a year before marrying Malcolm M. Fagan in August of 1943. They were married for exactly 62 years before Malcolm's death on their anniversary date in 2005.
Madeline and Malcolm raised four children.
In the early 1960s, Madeline returned to the classroom at Herkimer High School, first as a substitute and later full time as a teacher of English. She also went back to school herself, taking classes at night and ultimately receiving a master's degree in education from SUNY Oneonta. She retired from teaching in 1983.
Madeline was a member of the First Baptist Church of Herkimer for more than 75 years and served the church as a deacon and in many other capacities. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and was especially fond of New Harbor, Maine, which she visited every August from 1961 until 2015. She was also a devoted sports fan. In her early years, she supported the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Toronto Maple Leafs, while in later life she was an avid follower of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.
Madeline is survived by her four children; her brother; eight grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

The bride wore an aqua sheer suit with white accessories and carried an old fashioned bouquet of gardenias, white roses and flowerets.
The bride is a graduate of Herkimer High School, New York State College for Teachers at Albany, and for the past year has been a member of the faculty of the Margaretville Centeral School, Margaretville.
Mr. Fagen graduated from Herkimer High School and Niagara University and is employed at the General Electric Company in Syracuse.
Parties for the bride were given by Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler and Mrs. Kenneth Caldwell, Miss Madeline Fagan, Mrs. Bernice Corey and Mrs. Arleigh Francisco, Mrs. Harold Roy and Miss Geraldine Rubar.

Born in Utica, May 21, 1925, daughter of Martin H. and Emma Schmid Sebastian, Barneveld. she attended school at Holland Patent and Syracuse University. On March 31, 1951, she was married to Howard P. Helmer, Jr., and the couple lived at 6543 Patricia Dr., Watertown, until moving to Massachusetts.
Mrs. Helmer was employed as a medical secretary in Watertown for Doctors John A. Kennedy, Irving K. Stone and William J. Grace. She was last employed as a tutor-aide at Stony Hill School, Wilbraham, Mass.

LACONIA - John A. Veazey, 81, a lifetime resident of Laconia, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at home after a short illness.
Born Oct. 12, 1929, in Laconia, he was the son of Allen and Nina (Suttie) Veazey. He attended Laconia schools and was a graduate of New Hampton School; Nichols College, Class of 1950; and Syracuse University, College of Forestry.
Mr. Veazey served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. For eight years during the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was an aide to Brig. Gen. Harrison Thyng and traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East.
Mr. Veazey was president and owner of the Boulia-Gorrell Lumber Co. and was honored as Lumberman of the Year by Northeast Retail Lumbermen's Association in 2001. He served as a member of the Legislature, a member of the Laconia City Council, interim mayor, selectman, tax assessor, police commissioner, president of Laconia Industrial Development Corp., board of director of the Laconia Chamber of Commerce, president of the Winnipesaukee Ski Club, head of Gunstock Ski Patrol and director at Union Cemetery.
Mr. Veazey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Folts) Veazey; daughters Jane MacFadzen and her husband, Michael, and Sally McGarry; son, Allen M. Veazey and his wife, Dr. Michele Palella; grandchildren, Stacy Ramirez, Robin Ramirez, David MacFadzen, Shawn MacFadzen, Bethany MacFadzen, Cara Palella and Maj. Tyler Palella; sister-in-law, Joan B. Veazey; a niece, Suzanne Veazey; and a nephew, Charles "Chip" Veazey.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, William; and a sister, Jane.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Laconia Congregational Church, 69 Pleasant St., Laconia. A private burial will be held at a later date in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

White flowers and green and white candles formed the setting for the double ring ceremony performed by Rev. L. R. Loomis of Penn Yan, formerly of Keuka college.
The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Marshall E. Folts of Canton, Ohio, and attended by her two sisters, Sally e. folts as maid of honor and Mrs. Curtis (Nancy Folts) Perkins as bridesmaid. She wore a gown of bridal white, fashioned with bodice of lace and bouffant skirt of tulle, the fingertip-length tulle veil falling from a lace cap, and carried white roses. Her attendants were gowned in pale green lace and net, with matching bandeaux in their hair, and carried colonial bouquets of yellow and white pansies and fern. The bride's mother chose blue with white accessories, the groom's mother black and white with black accessories, each with corsage of talisman roses.
Neil Dearborne of Schenectady, friend of the groom, was best man, Ushers were Curtis Perkins of Cattaraugus, brother-in-law of the bride, and Donald Stork of Penn Yan.
Mrs. Nellie Winters played a traditional wedding marches for the service. Mrs. Howard Williams sang two solos, "O, Promise Me" and "O, Perfect Love."
A reception was in the lounge of Ball hall where the decorations were yellow and white flowers. Mrs. Marshall Folts and Mrs. Harold Archibald poured.
The bride who attended local schools and graduated from Bowling Green university, has been employed as a teacher. The Groom studied at New England college and Syracuse university. After a wedding trip in Canada they will make their home in Laconia where the groom is associated with his father in the lumber
with his father in the lumber business.
Mrs. Warren A. Clark of Penn Yan, great aunt of the bride, entertained at a buffet supper for the family.

Penn Yan - Baskets of white gladiolus and ferns surrounded a candlelit altar for the summer wedding of Miss Sally Elizabeth Folts and Vincent Charles Gazzetta Saturday afternoon, Aug. 29, in the Keuka College Chapel.
The bride, daughter of Mrs. Edwin C. Folts of Keuka Park, escorted to the altar by her brother, Marshall E. Folts of Canton, Ohio, wore a gown of white organdy with chapel train. Her Juliet cap was trimmed in seed pearls and fastened to it was a fingertip veil of illusion.
She was attended by her sisters, Mrs. Curtis R. Perkins as matron of honor and Mrs. John A. Veazey as bridesmaid. They wore identical gowns of pastel green and carried chrysanthemums.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Gazzetta of Branchport He chose Ronald Sutherland of Branchport as best man and those who ushered were Warren Gannett of Geneva and Carl Knitter of Staten Island, a cousin.
The bride and bridegroom were feted at a reception following the ceremony in the Ball lounge at the college.
The bride, a graduate of Keuka College, has been employed by the law firm of Taylor, Corcoran and Jennings in Penn Yan. Mr. Gazzetta graduated from Alfred University and received his masters degree from Columbia University. He is employed as administrative assistant to the president of Endicott junior college at Beverly, Mass.

LITTLE FALLS - Mrs. Carolyn C. Kelly, 52 of 594 Garden St.. a volunteer teacher of the pre-kindergartea class at St. Mary's Academy for the past three years. died Saturday in Little Falls Hospital, where she had been a patient since September 13.
She was a member of St Mary's Church.
She,was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the daughter of Christopher and Pearl McKim Cavanaugh. She graduated from the Catholic Academy in Washington, DC.
In 1942, she married Russell (Mike) Kelly in Washington, DC, now a retired United States Army colonel.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Russell M. Kelly Jr. of Germany and George C. Kelly, at home; two daughters, Mrs. James (Christopher Ann) Price of Santa Monica, Calif, and Mrs Barry (Deborah) Saylor of Topanga, Calif., and a brother Frederick A. Cavanaugh of Mission Hills, Calif.
The funeral will be at 8 Wednesday from the Sheehan Funeral Home, and at 9:30 from St Mary's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.
A prayer service will be at 8 tomorrow night at the funeral home.
