Dorothy E. Backstrom, age 91, of Eau Claire, WI passed away on August 20, 2014 at Heritage Assisted Living Center in Eau Claire.
Dorothy was born on June 13, 1923 to Theodore and Emma (Beaulieu) Gilchrist in Eau Claire, WI. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1941. She continued her education at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her Registered Nurse degree in 1944. In 1947, Dorothy married Nyle Kurth. He preceded her in death on April 4th, 1970. In 1974 she married John Backstrom and he later passed away on August 31, 1984. During her nursing career, she worked 12 years with Dr. P.J. Spelbring in Eau Claire helping with his private practice. For the remainder of her career, she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in the ENT operating room as the head nurse for 26 years, until she retired in 1989.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Karla Ebert of Eau Claire, WI; two sons, Thomas Kurth (Steve Kanniainen) of Sacramento, CA, and James (Brenda) Kurth of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Jason (Mandy) Kurth, Jennifer Kurth, Erin (Ali’i) Guzman, Kristin Larsen, Brett (Carly) Anderson, Katherine (Tyler) Heinz; nine great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Jocelyn, Marcus, Gentry, Isabella, Bennett, Lily, Porter, and Camden; a sister, Viola Hoover of Lake Hallie, WI; three brothers, Theodore Gilchrist of Eau Claire, WI, Wayne Gilchrist of Kaukauna, WI, and Chuck Gilchrist of Minoqua, WI and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gordon; two husbands, Nyle Kurth, and John Backstrom; and a son-in-law, Tom Ebert.
Dorothy enjoyed volunteering at the Eau Claire American Cancer Society and from 1989-2010 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was also an active member and volunteer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her strong faith, and her loving ways.

Richard John Zeitler, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Seasons Hospice.
Richard was born November 15, 1922 in Dover Township to Emil and Lula (Stevens) Zeitler. He was a graduate of Dover High School. Richard worked on the B&R family farm. He was a veteran of the US Army, proudly serving his country from 1944-1946, participating in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation and the Occupation of Japan. Richard returned after his time in the Army and continued farming until he retired in 1980. Richard married Elizabeth Roth in 1946 in Winona and they later divorced. On September 25, 1993 in Rock Dell, Richard married Viola Olson. He was a member of East Saint Olaf Lutheran Church, American Legion in Eyota and a former member of the Legion in St. Charles.
Richard is survived by his wife, Viola; sons, Thomas (Betty) Zeitler of Newport News, VA., Richard Zeitler, Jr. of Eyota, Harry (Penny) Zeitler of Dover; daughters, JoAnn Till of Rochester and Caroline (Joe) Zubillaga of Kingston, ID; grandchildren, Alexander (Jenny) Zeitler, Nicholas (Essie) Zeitler, Philip (Lisa) Till, Cindi (Mike) Burton, Katelyn Zeitler, Lindsey Zeitler and 9 great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his brother, Delton (Ann) Zeitler of Rochester; brother-in-law, Richard Goranson; stepdaughters, Kathryn (David) Wortman of Melrose, WI, Sandra Houck of Big Rapids, MI, step-granddaughter, Lisa Grounds and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lula; brother, Henry Zeitler and sisters, Ruby Zeitler Wingert and Eileen Zeitler Schwebke.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 12, 2013 at East Saint Olaf Lutheran Church, 6200 County Road 3 SW, Byron, MN 55920. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes , 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Darby Lawrence will be officiating with interment at Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles, MN.

Delton Warren Zeitler, 86, of Rochester, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow.
Delton was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Dover Township, to Emil and Lula (Stevens) Zeitler. He graduated from Dover High School in 1945 and married Nina Martin in 1950. They later divorced. On Aug. 26, 1962, he married Ann Schumacher in Pine City. His primary occupation was a sales representative for 27 years with New Holland Farm Machinery.
Delton enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed travel and was a fan of movies about the Old West.
Delton is survived by his wife, Ann of Rochester; sons, Kevin (Kari) Zeitler of Chico, Calif., Morgan (Carolyn) Zeitler of Caspar, Calif., Jon (Molly) Zeitler of New Brauufels, Texas and Mark (Kristine) Zeitler of Byron; and daughter, Julie (Raja) Chaudhuri of Lakeville; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Susan Elizabeth; two brothers, Henry and Richard; two sisters, Ruby Wingert and Eileen Schwebke; and his former wife.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place N.W. in Rochester.
The burial and graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 1 p.m. at Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.

Susan Elizabeth Zeitler, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delton Zeitler of 119 Elizabeth Drive, died early Wednesday, July 26, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Graveside services and burial will be in Pine City, Minn.
The baby is survived by her parents; two brother, Jon and Mark; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schumacher, Forest Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Emil Zeitler of St. Charles, Minn.
Local funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Huebl Funeral Chapel.

Ruth Elizabeth Hakes was born to Leonard James & Anna Wilhelmina Fredericka (Pagel) Hakes in Buffalo Lake, Renville, MN. She married Edward Charles Stevens 8 Dec 1956 in Buffalo Lake. They had 3 children together Beverly Ann (b. 1957), Craig Edward (b. 1961), & Wayne Leonard (b. 1962). Ruth worked for Home Produce in St. Charles & later doing data entry at Camera Art in Lewiston. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she was the financial secretary. She also operated the County Store & Crafts booth at the Winona County Fair for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, & a brother. She died when a blot clot entered her heart at her home in St. Charles.

Robert B. “Bob” Stevens, 84, of St. Charles died Saturday evening, September 19, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. Bob was born June 15, 1936 in St. Charles to Charles and Alma (Wiskow) Stevens. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1954. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force from August of 1956 to August of 1960. Bob and Carmen Watts were married October 9, 1956 in Rochester. Bob worked as a carpenter and custodian for Mayo Clinic as well as maintenance for Doty Properties. Bob was a self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades and a master of none”. He enjoyed camping and boating on the Mississippi, snowmobiling, building model planes, working in his garage, bird watching, his trip to Alaska with his son and most especially being with family and his grandchildren.
Survivors include his six children; Calvin Stevens of St. Charles, Carrie (Gordy) Urban of St. Charles, Carol (Randall) Gerber of Lake City, Nadine Faupel of Eyota, Teresa (Allan) Kraft and Carmel Scott both of St. Charles and, 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), two great-great-grandchildren, siblings; Dora Dahl, Bill (Sandy) Stevens, Neva Christianson, Margie Buckley, Janice Harnack and Janet Dailey. He was preceded in death by his wife Carmen in 2012, a great-grandson, Colton, a brother Edward and his parents.
Private family services to celebrate Bob’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles led by funeral celebrant Dianne Rislow. A visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War posts will conduct military graveside honors. In accordance with current restrictions face masks and social distancing are required. Carmen Kay Stevens, 72, of St. Charles, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Carmen was born July 8, 1940, in Rochester, to Douglas and Lorraine (Jameson) Watts. She and Robert Stevens were married Oct. 9, 1956, in Rochester. Carmen worked for Mayo Clinic in Rochester for several years.
Carmen and Robert enjoyed boating, camping, traveling and spending time with family. Carmen also enjoyed crocheting afghans, crafting, and collecting Western and Indian memorabilia. She loved to watch her hummingbirds.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; six children, Calvin Stevens, Carrie (Gordy) Urban, Nadine Faupel, Teresa (Allan) Kraft and Carmel Scott all of St. Charles and Carol (Randall) Gerber of Lake City; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Jorgensen of Utica and Pam (James) O’Brien of Byron; and a brother, Ronnie (Sue) Watts of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine Wheelock, step-father, Edward Wheelock, father, Douglas Watts, a brother-in-law, Larry Jorgensen and a great-grandson.
Services to Celebrate Carmen’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles, with Funeral Celebrant Jenny Hoff presiding. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. A reception will be held at the funeral home following services.

Mark Walter Christenson was born to Walter & Flossie (Domke) Christenson. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Winged Arrow in the South Pacific. Mark married Elaine C. Thedens 20 Aug 1946. They later divorced after having 2 children. He then farmed in Salem Corners & Simpson until marring Neva Grace (Stevens) Storm on 29 Jun 1979. They lived in Stewartville where he worked for the All American Co-op until he retired. Mark was a member of the Eagles Club, Stewartville American Legion, Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge & Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by 1 infant son, 1 sister, & 2 brothers.
