  HOOSICK FALLS - Ruth Marie Vosburgh Whitman, wife of the late R. Gerald Whitman, entered into eternal life on December 5, 2015 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY.
  The daughter of the late John A. and Magdalena (Alsheimer) Vosburgh of Latham, NY she was born January 7, 1928.
  Ruth was a graduate of Latham School #10, Waterveliet High School and Troy Business College.
  She worked for the former Grand Union Company during her school years.
  After college she worked for MetLife Insurance Company; an active member of Delta Gamma Delta 1943-1956 and national president in 1952.
  She was Manager-Treasurer of the United Associates Federal Credit Union (formerly the Grand Union Federal Credit Union) for 24 years, retiring in 1994.
  She was the mother of five children, Ronald Whitman who is deceased.
  Ruth was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Andrew, Robert and Dr. John Vosburgh and a sister Mary Gidley.
  Burial will take place in the family lot in the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

  SAUQUOIT - Betty J. Briggs, 93, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2017 at the Masonic Care Community with her family at her side.
  She was born in the Town of Paris on March 11, 1924, to the late Nelson and Jenny Merle Miller and was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School.
  On May 22, 1943, Betty and Ralph E. Briggs were united in marriage in Houston, Texas, a loving union of 37 years, until his death on March 20, 1981.
  For over 56 years, Betty was instrumental in the operation of the Ralph Briggs Agency which she and Ralph began in their home on Butler Rd. and later relocated the offices to Pinnacle Rd in Sauquoit.
  She was also active in the Maple Valley Chapter O.E.S., currently Valley Stars 217, where she served as Matron and Chaplin.
  She was also a longtime member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Sauquoit where she served on the board.
  She was predeceased by her son, Ralph K. Briggs, on December 2, 2004; her great-grandsons, Zachary Allen Dombrowski, on March 25, 2005 and Lochlan James Lyne, on May 7, 2012; her sisters, Helen Colucci and Janet Donahue; and her brother, Dr. Albert Miller.

  The bride, a graduate of Genesee Hospital School of Nursing, Rochester, is a registered nurse at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center. The bridegroom, a graduate of the State University College at Brockport is a salesman with C. Weaver Chevrolet.

  Albert W. Miller, 19, graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School, and a sophomore in the Veterinary College, Cornell University, will be among a group of 40 college students chosen to tour veterinarian colleges of Europe this summer and early fall under the auspices of the UNRRA.
  Miller, son of Nelson Miller, was one of six students of the class of 1948 at Cornell to he selected for this tour.
  He majored in agriculture while in high school. Before entering Cornell he was employed by the Oneida County Farm Bureau in dairy improvement and by Dr. F. N. Schafer. Following his graduation at Cornell, Miller plans to enter the University of California for his Ph. D. On the Cornell campus he is employed by the department of animal husbandry.
  In extra-curricular activities, Miller is in charge of rushing and social committee for the class of 1948. He is a member of the Junior Medical Veterinary Association of America, Alpha' Si Fraternity, and is a member of the inter-Fraternity Council.
  He leaves next week for Europe and will return about October 26 to resume his studies in Cornell

  Donald J. Guido, former head baseball coach at Whitesboro Central School, died of natural causes at his home in Marcy yesterday.
  Guido, 55, was head baseball coach at Whitesboro for15 seasons, from 1960 to 1974, and his teams won two Section II championships. He also served as assistant football  coach for many years, and was an assistant and head football coach at Westmoreland Central School for several years.
  Guido was a football, baseball and basketball standout at Whitesboro under the late Allen "Chiz" Frye. He later played football at Pensacola Naval Air Station and then starred at Cortland State.
  Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. aljd 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at J.W. Dimbleby Funeral Home in Whitesboro.

  MARCY - Donald John Guido, 55, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Marcy.
  He was bom February 22, 1932, in Utica, the son of the late Joseph and Helen Vosburgh Guido, was a, graduate of Whitesboro Central School and Cortland State Teacher's College. He was a football, basketball and baseball standout at Whitesboro under the late. Allen (Chiz) Frye and starred at Cortland State. He was head baseball coach at Whitesboro for 15 seasons and his teams won two Section III Championships. He also served as assistant football coach for many years and was an assistant and head-football coach at Westmoreland Central School for several years. He also coached Pop Warner Football, Little League and American Legion Baseball. For many years he was an active participant as both a player and a coach in the Utica Muny Baseball League. He taught social studies and A.P. History in the Whitesboro School System for 29 years and had retired last June. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1951 - 1955 and was a running back on the U.S. Naval (Goshawks) Football Team, while stationed in Pensacola, FL.
  He is survived by two daughters. Michele. Tampa. FL, Dawn, Philadelphia, PA; a son, Joseph. Wyoming, PA; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Williams; step-father. Lawrence Guido; and nephew, Scott Williams, all of Whitesboro.
  The funeral will be Tuesday morning at 9:30 at The J.W. Dimbleby Funeral Home. 40 Main St., Whitesboro, and 10 o'clock at St. Paul's Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday, 2-4 and 7-9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Don Guido Scholarship, Fund in his memory. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

  Mary “Mur” Stansfield Marzeski age 92, passed away on Friday morning January 1, 2016 in Bassett Medical Center. Born on August 15, 1923 in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Reginald S. and Mary L. Llewellyn Joslyn. She graduated from Richfield Springs Central School and was united in marriage with Edward Marzeski on December 17, 1945 in Saint Joseph’s RC Church.
  Surviving are her devoted husband of 70 years Edward, two sons and their wives, Dale and Kiyo Marzeski of Richfield Springs, Joel and Patricia Marzeski of Cazenovia, three daughters, Mary Lou Butler and her husband James of Gillette, WY, Marcia Goodale and her husband Thomas of Richfield Springs, Joan Marzeski of Roseboom, one sister, Barbara Steckler of Richfield Springs, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Reginald Joslyn and two sisters, Elizabeth McGrath and Ann Gerrard.
  Interment will take place in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery

  Edward J. Marzeski, democratic supervisor of the Town of Richfield, on Monday filed a nomination petition with the Otsegio County Board of Elections at Cooperstown for the seat on the Otsego County Board of Representatives from District 9 which comprises the Towns of Richfield and Springfield.
  A veteran in local politics, Marzeski-was first elected town clerk in 1951 and continued to hold that office thru successive elections until 1967 when he was elected supervisor, a position he still holds.
  Nearly all his life has been spent in Richfield, having come here with his family when a child. He is a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, class of 1941. During World War II served with the Air Force as a single engine pilot and was discharged with the rank of second lieutenant.
  In 1951 he bought the Cameron Insurance Company, which he expanded, and still operates at 6 Lake Street.
   During his 20 years as an elected official of the town he has had many opportunities to take part in its government, and observe many changes.
  Besides, his political contacts, he has been active in the social and fraternal life of the community which has been a great asset in learning the attitudes of his constituents.
  He is a member and past president of Richfield Rotary; past president of RSCS PTA; a member and past police captain of the Richfield Springs fire department and of the Exempt Firemen's, Association; member of Richfield Grange; and HPS Post 616 American Legion.
  He is a member of St Josepih's RC Curch and its Holy Name Society.
  Mr. and Mrs. Marzeski, the former Mary S. Joslyn. have five children, Dale with the US Air Force, Joel, Mary Lou, Marcia and Joan.
  Marzeski will face Republican Murry Ames in the November 3 election this fall for this important office.

  RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Edward Marzeski, 93, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, Aug. 12, 2016, at Bassett Medical Center.
  He was born on Jan. 15, 1923, in Richfield Springs, to Joseph and Eva Marzeski.
Soon after graduating from Richfield Springs Central School, he served his country during World War II as an Air Corps flight officer.
  He was united in marriage with Mary S. Joslyn on Dec. 17, 1945, at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic
  Surviving are his two sons and their wives, Dale (Kiyo) Marzeski of Richfield Springs, Joel (Patricia) Marzeski of Cazenovia; three daughters, Mary Lou (James) Butler of Gillette, Wyoming, Marcia (Thomas) Goodale of Richfield Springs, Joan Marzeski of Roseboom; one brother, Joseph Marzeski of Richfield Springs; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mur; and sister, Josephine Adsit.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26, at Saint Joseph's RC Church, Richfield Springs. The Rev. Silvaster Sarihaddula will officiate. Interment will take place in Saint Joseph's Cemetery following the service.

The bridegroom is a graduate of Van Hornesville Central School, served in the Navy, and operates a farm near Van Hornesville.
  Following a wedding trip to New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Steckler will reside in an apartment in the Beadle Block, Lake Street.

   Richfield Springs ... Miss Hazel Schooley of East Northfield, Mass., was here to attend the marriage of her. sister, Miss Mildred Schooley to Joseph Dibble on Saturday afternoon.

  Miss Mildred Mae Schooley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond H. Schooley of this village and Joseph Francis Dibble son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dibble also of Richfield Springs were married at St. Joseph's parochial residence, Saturday afternoon. April 24th by the Rev. Arthur T. Kelly. The attendants were Miss Helen Schooley of East Northfield, Mass., a sister of the bride and Peter Savage of this village. A reception for fifty guests was held at the bride's home, after which Mr. and Mrs. Dibble left for a trip to New York. On Thursday of this week. Mr. Dibble will be inducted into the U. S. Army.

  HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Ruth Lewis Yule, 86, formerly of Cooperstown, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, in Hollywood, Fla.
   Ruth was a distinguished poet who taught English for more than two decades at Cooperstown High School in Cooperstown before retiring and moving to East Lansing, Mich., in 1985. There she led classes in great literature for the next 18 years. She was valedictorian of her high school senior class in Richfield Springs and received a teaching degree in English from Albany State University and Colgate College.
   Ruth received numerous awards and honors during her lifetime, including the East Lansing Crystal Award and the Michigan State Apollo Award for her outstanding academic contributions to the East Lansing community. Her passion for Tolstoy, Nabokov, Dickens, James and Flaubert, among others, filled her life and the lives of hundreds of her students with the endless joys of great literature.
  Ruth is survived by two daughters, Kathi in Florida and Christine in Michigan; one son, James in Texas; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Bryan, Lisa (Scott), Matthew (Cris), Sarah (C.J.), Nicole (Jim); eight great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Trevor, Ian, Molly, Ansley Mae, Teagan, Madeleine and Alexa; a cousin, Steven VanWoert; and a very special friend, Nicholas Alan Foster of Lansing, Mich.
   She was preceded in death by her musician husband, Jimmy Yule; her mother, Marian "Noni" Lewis; her father, Benjamin Lewis; and her younger brother, George Robert Lewis.
   A celebration reception will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27, at the University Methodist Church in East Lansing.
   A local memorial service will be held later on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, where Ruth and her husband, Jimmy, spent countless summer days in his small fishing boat; she, reading one of her many books, while he trolled for lake trout and bass.


James Harrington Yule

  James H. Yule, 64, of R.D. 1, Fly Creek, N.Y., died Friday, November 28, 1980 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, following an extended illness.
  He was born August 4, 1916 at Cooperstown. He married Ruth Lewis on June 1, 1941 at Cooperstown. Mr. Yule was a well known area musician and Otsego Lake fisherman. Mr. Yule served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II. He was a member of the Fly Creek Methodist Church.
  He is survived by his wife; a son, James A. Yule of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. George (Kathi) Mitchell of Oneonta, N.Y. and Miss Christine E. Yule of Lansing, Michigan;six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Eileen) Gibson of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 7 at 3 p.m. from the Fly Creek Methodist Church. Burial will be later in the Fly Creek Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
