Milton E. Phillips, 81, of 11 Kipp Road, Parish, died Saturday at home.
He was born in Clarks Mills. He retired in 1976 from Allied Chemical in Solvay. He previously worked for Savage Arms in Frankfort, was a truck driver for the L.A. DeGarmo sawmill and owned and operated the Phillips sawmill. He was a member of the Parish/Hastings Veterans of Foreign Wars and Russell Horning American Legion Post 609, Parish. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors: His wife, the former Arla Spicer; four sons, George, David and Gary, all of Parish, and Dale of Massachusetts; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harter Funeral Home. Burial, Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish.

Helen L. Henderson, 65, of Edgewood Drive died Friday at University Hospital, Syracuse.
A native of Camden, Mrs. Henderson lived in Parish 54 years.
Surviving are her husband, Sidney; a daughter, Darlene Griebal of West Germany; a son, Loren of Parish; a sister, Esther Thomas of Cleveland; two brothers, Milton of Parish and John Phillips of Pulaski; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Harter-Olmstead Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery.

Sidney Thomas Henderson, 84, of Parish died Monday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was a life resident of Parish. He was a retired mechanic for the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District and an Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Helen, died in 1990.

Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Milton Phillips, brother and sister-in-daw of the bride, and cousin of the bride, Miss Beatrice Healy of Williamstown. Miss Audrey Healy of Williamstown played the traditional wedding marches.
The bride chose a grey suit with maroon accessories and wore a corsage of white rose buds.
Mrs. Phillips, mother of the bride and Mrs. Henderson, mother of the groom, wore corsages of red roses.
Members of the immediate families and friends attended the ceremony. A reception for 100 friends and relatives was held at the bride's home following the ceremony.
The couple left on a honeymoon to New Jersey and Virginia. Upon their return they will make their home in Parish where the groom is employed by the Miller Lumber Co.

Herkimer — An East Herkimer woman escaped serious injury this morning when her car plunged down a 25-foot embankment and smashed into, a home in which four people were sleeping.
Mrs. Bernard Goodman, 39, Folts Rd., suffered cuts on the left leg and right wrist and bruises. She was treated by Dr. Harold Golden.
Larry Phillips, 12, and his brother, Bill, 10, were playing outside the house at the foot of Folts Hill Rd. less than 10 feet from where the car came to rest on it's side after smashing a corner of the building.
In the house were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Phillips; their year-old son, Robert, asister-in-law, Mrs. Harold Reinhardt. and Phillips' father, Arthur, 62. All, but the grandfather were sleeping.
The car drooped almost vertically from Main St. East Herkimer, which was formerly Route 5. Mrs. Goodman had just left her home and was en route to Herkimer Launderers and Dry Cleaners, S. Main St., owned by her husband.
Mrs. Phillips said of the crash later "I thought the baby had fallen out of bed." She is a waitress in a local diner and had gone to bed about 3 a.m.
Her husband pulled Mrs. Goodman from wreckage. The front of car buckled a corner of the house. It was on the second floor over the corner that Mr. and Mrs. Phillips were sleeping.
Cause of the accident was not determined immediately. Mrs. Goodman told ---- D. B. Wassrt, East Herkimer substation, that she had just left her home on Folts Road and was proceeding doen the fairly steep road that enters Main St.
The car crossed the highway, missed a huge stump and plunged into the house,
The scene was less than 200 feet east of the Herkimer Bridge on the south side of the highway.

Miss Louise Swain, 115 S. Jay St., and Boyd Tuthill, 618 W. Dominick St., were married at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Gospel Tabernacle of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The Rev. Hugh P. Young, pastor, read the service. The single ring ceremony was used.
The bride is the daughter oi Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swain, this city. She was given in marriage by her father.
The church was decorated with ferns and spring flowers. Charles Young snag "I Love You Truly." Mrs. Hugh P. Young played "Lehiengrin's Bridal Chorus" as processional, and James Vacherese played Mendelssohn's wedding march as recessional.
Mrs. Francis Swain was matron of honor. Norman Darling Lowell, acted as best man. The Misses Elizabeth Waterman and Grace Green were bridesmaids. Francis Swain and Rowland Saunders were ushers.
The bride wore a white net gown with finger-tip veil and carried an arm bouquet of white roses. Mrs. Swain chose a gown of pink with blue accessories and carried pink daisies. Miss Waterman chose a blue gown and carried yellow lilies. Miss Green was attired in acquamarine and carried sweet peas.
The ceremony was followed by a supper at the home of the bride's parents for members of the bridal party.
Mr. and Mrs. Tuthill will leave for a motor trip. After July 1 they will make their home in Lee. The bridegroom, a graduate of Boonville High School, is employed by the New System Laundry. The bride was graduated from Rome Free Academy with the class of 1938.
Out-of-town guests at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Arch Tuthill, Boonville; Miss Naomi Tuthill, Ilion; the Rev. and Mrs. Norman J. Darling, Lowell, and others.

Miss Betty Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Jarrett Wilson, Morgantown, W. Va., be came the bride of Pvt. Frank Swain jr., son of Frank Swain, 115 S. Jay St., on Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Dutch Reformed Church, Nyack-in-the-Hudson.
The candlelight ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. C. Donald McKaig, with Edward Boon as acolyte.
Robert Luck sang "At Dawning," "I Love Thee, Dear," "Be cause," and "O, Perfect Love." He was accompanied by Gilbert Cicio, East Branch, N. Y., on the organ.
The bride, given in marriage by Eli Cookson, wore an instep-length gown of white flower-embossed mousseline de soie, styled with a bolero jacket with three-quarter length sleeves. Her shoulder-length veil of tulle was caught to a pearl encrusted cap of lace, and she carried a bouquet of white shattered carnations and bouvardia.
Mrs. Robert Luck, Morristown, N.J., matron of honor, was attired in an instep-length gown of blue mousseline de soie embossed with white flowers and carried a cluster bouquet of blue delphinium and shasta daisies. Her short blue veil was caught to delphinium in her hair. Janet Tuthill, Rome, niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl, she wore a white nylon dress with a veil of white marquisette and carried a miniature bouquet like the brides's.
Elvin Jackson, Shinglehouse, Pa., was best man, and ushers were Curt McKendrick. Grampian, Pa., and Harold Irish, Nyack.
All members of the wedding party were classmates of the couple at the Missionary Training Institute, Nyack. Following the ceremony a reception was held in Christie Hall, Nyack.
The bride a graduate of the Missionary Training Institute has been employed there as assistant librarian for three vears and as acting librarian for the past year.
Pvt. Swain, who is on duty with the U. S. Army, also attended the Institute, and was employed there as a chef for the two years prior to his call into the service.
After a wedding trip to upper New York State and West Virginia, Mrs. Swain plans to reside with Mr. and Mrs. Boyd E. Tut, hill, Rome, brother and sister-in-law of the bridegroom. Pvt. Swain was to report to Camp Kilmer, N. J. for assignment in the European Theater.

He was born, December 11, 1915, in Rome, NY, the son of Raymond and Cora Stringer. He received his education in Utica Schools. He married Lucille Derby in August 1940. She died August 1980. On June 26, 1982, he married Dorothy Grace Bubel, in Plymouth Bethesda United Church of Christ, Utica. Mr. Stringer was retired from Kelsey-Hayes. He loved to build and fly airplanes, and was an active member of the Mohawk Valley Radio Control Firebirds.
He is survived by his wife; his son; his daughter; a sister; two brothers-in-law; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, William Stringer and Raymond Stringer; and by two sisters, Lois Smith and Dorothy Rahn.
Spring interment will be in Carr Cemetery, Marcy.

Raymond Stringer using a R. O. C. model plane won an endurance flying contest held by the Wings of Utica in Westminster Presbyterian Church gymnasium last night. His model stayed aloft two minutes and 19 seconds. Milton Light won second honors and Donald Grube, third. Approximately 26 model planes were entered.
Following the contest, member of the club returned to the Y. M. C. A. where they heard and illustrated lecture on “Pattern Making, Model Making and Foundry Practice,” by Mark Barlow, pattern maker. Thirty members of the club attended.

MARCY - Raymond A. Stringer. Jr., 21, of Lois Ave., was pronounced dead yesterday in St. Elizabeth Hospital.
A relative said Mr. Stringer collapsed at the bar in Partner's Choice Restaurant on River Road. State police are investigating.
Dr. Charles Brady, coroner, was withholding a ruling pending tests. He was born in Utica, son of Raymond H. and Lucille Derby Stringer. He attended Whitesboro Schools and graduated from Whitesboro Central in 1971.
He had been employed by the 7-Up Plandt in Marcy.
He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War, a member of the Stars and Stripes DAV and the Mohawk Valley Modlers.
Besides his parents he leaves two brothers, James Stringer, Salem, Ore., and William Stringer, Barneveld and a sister, Mrs. William (Linda) Haley, Marcy.
The funeral will be at 9:30 Wednesday from the J. W. Dimbleby funeral Home, and at 10 from the Maynard United Methodist Church, Burial will be in Carr Cemetery.

She leaves beside her parents, five brothers, Robert of Fulton; Frank, Ronald, Donald and William, all of Camden, N. Y. one sister, Mrs. Howard Carter of Fulton; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Allen of Parish.

Glenn R. Smith, 89, of 116 Crosby Road, Parish, died Saturday at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Oswego.
He was born in Parish. He retired in 1973 as a mechanic for the state Department of Transportation in Mexico. He was a member of the Civil Service Employees Association.
His wife, the former Mildred Allen, died in 1997.
Survivors: Six daughters, Irene Felt of Mexico, Edith Pepp of Orwell, Ruth Sampson of Ogdensburg, Alice Allis and Joyce Tanner, both of Altmar, and Rose Borland of Parish; five sons, Allen, Raymond, Stanley and Bruce, all of Parish, and Gordon of Constantia; 36 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
