  PARISH - Julia Sobles Joss, 65, a resident of Route 22, died Tuesday morning at Community General Hospital, Syracuse, following a long illness.
  Mrs. Joss was a life resident of Parish and attended Parish High School. she was a former postmaster in Maple View.
  She is survived by her husband Paul Joss, a son Charles Short of Seaford, Del.; three daughters, Nancy Short of Bridgeville, Del., Anita Cole at Parish and Deborah Wilkes of Parish; seven grandchildren, three sisters; Acelia Barthel of Parish and Helen Werner and Betty Henopp, both of California, and two brothers, Edwin Soble of Altmar and William Soble of Lakeport.
  Funeral services will be helf Friday at 1 p.m. from the Harter-Olmsted Funeral Home, 7430 Main St., Parish.
  Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish.

  Paul J. Joss, 86, of Parish, died Thursday at his home. He was born in Cicero, son of the late Fred and Ruth Joss. He was employed as a tool crib laborer for General Electric, retiring after 37 years. He attended the Pulaski Wesleyan Church. His wife, Julia, died in 1986. Surviving: two daughters, Anita Joss of Albion and Debrah (James) Wilkes of Parish; one stepson, Charles R. Short of Delaware; one stepdaughter, Nancy Short of Delaware; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Joss of Cicero; several sisters-in-law. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday from Harter Funeral Home, 2983 W. Main St., Parish, NY. Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call noon to 2 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Hurt In Action
PARISH - Mr. and Mrs. Richard Soble of this village, recently received a telegram from the adjutant-general's office, Stating their son, Pvt. Nick Soble, was wounded in action in Italy, May 30. Shortly after, they received a letter from their son, stating he was hospitalized and improving rapidly.
  He has been awarded the Purple Heart and said he was sending it home to his parents as soon as he could get wrapping paper. He entered the service in September 1943.

  William N. Soble, 77, of Lakeport, died Sunday. Born in Parish, he lived in Lakeport since 1983. He spent winters in Christmas, Fla. He was a retired construction worker and an Army veteran of World War II.
  Survivors: His wife of 30 years, the former Anna Sossong; four daughters, Youdora Sobecki of Syracuse, Mary Ann Waldocker of Washington state, Rose Ann Rogers of Constantia and Arlene Libby of Tully; two sons, Graham of Cicero and William A. of Boston; four stepdaughters; one stepson; two sisters, Betty Lisiewski and Helen Werner, both of California; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.   Parish — Arlene Soble, one-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Soble of Sandy Creek, is in fair condition at the House of the Good Samaitan after escaping death by drowning due to the quick work on the part of her half sister, Ruby Jones, 15.
  Ruby was baby sitting for her eight brothers and sisters late Monday afternoon at Blind Creek Cover, near Sandy Creek.
  One of the children fell into the water. As Ruby pulled that child out of stream, the year old baby slipped and fell in.
   Ruby pulled the baby from the water. The baby was choking and turning blue. Ruby administered mouth to mouth breathing until the Sandy Creek ambulance arrived.
   It was just a month ago that the Sobles lost all of their possessions when fire destroyed their home at Fulton.

  Chaumont — Ronald P Drury, 81, a veteran of World War I, died Jan 23 at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown where he had been a patient since 1974.
  A private service was held at the Becker Funeral Home with the Rev William Smythe, Chaumont Presbyterian Church, officiating Burial was in Camden Cemetery
  Donations may be made in his name to the Chaumont Presbyterian Church.
   He is survived by a son, Grover, Adams, two daughters. Mrs Raymond (Ruth) Adams, Dexter, and Mrs Laura Wymer, Syracuse, and six grandchildren.
  Born near Camden Aug 23, 1899, Mr Drury served in France and Germany during World War I.
  He and his wife, Stella Louise came to Northern New York in 1939, first residing in Dexter and later in Chaumont. They had earlier resided in Camden and Syracuse.
  Mrs Drury died in July 1978.

  Mrs. Drury was born April 27, 1903, in Pittston, Pa. She moved ot Northern New York in 1939 She and her husband lived for several years in Camden, Syracuse, Dexter, and Chaumont.

 - Newspaper Article (Watertown Daily Times, NY, Tuesday, May 1, 1973)
  GOUVERNEUR — Donald A. Krum, 61, County Club Road, Hailesboro, an employee of St. Joe Minerals Corp, died from crushing injuries in an accident at the St. Joe No. 4 mine, Balmat, Monday about 2:25 p.m.
   According to Inv. Carl Denecia and Deputy Michael Mitchell, Sheriffs Department, Krum and two other employees had been working at the 1900-foot level of the mine and were leaving the work area. The tram on which they were riding lost power and went down the shaft at a ten-degree angle. Krum's companions jumped from the tram but Krum was crushed by the machine, being thrown from it and into its path.
   Dr. A.E. Dodds, St. Lawrence County coroner, pronounced Krum dead at the scene. No official verdict has been issued.
   The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Gouverneur, with Rev. Stanley E. Brown, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Hailesboro. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at Burr-Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. There will be a Masonic service Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
   Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Phillips Krum; two daughters, Mrs; Dale (Shirley) Weatherup, Gouverneur; Mrs. Richard (Joan) Lovely, Horseheads; a son, Frederick, Syracuse; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Krum, Adams Center; two sisters, Mrs. Lionel (Esther) Mellon, Adams Center: Mrs: Bernard (Marge) Thomas, Adams; 11 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
   Born at Ellisburg March 19, 1912, son of Frederick and Kate Parsons Krum, he attended Belleville schools and worked on farms in the Belleville section. He married Margaret Phillips at Belleville May 18,1935.
   The couple later moved to Edwards where Mr. Krum began employment for St. Joe Minerals. They lived in Balmat before moving to the Country Club Road. Mr. Krum had worked for the mining company for 36 years and was a machine man at the time of his death.

  OSWEGO - Petition of Gladys Hise of Pulaski, administratrix of the estate of her father, Earl F. Phillips, for leave to compromise a cause of action against the New York Central for the death of her father, waa granted Wednesday in Oswego Surrogate's Court by Surrogate George M. Penney.
   Phillips was killed April 12. when the car in which he was riding collided with a New York Central freight train at a crossing on Route 13, one mile west of Altmar.
   Settlement in the amount of $500 was offered by the railroad and acceptance permitted by the order; signed by Judge Penney.
   Ruth Phillips of Ogdensburg, widow, and a second daughter, Margaret Krum of Edwards, also will share in the estate.

  George J Hise, 66, a retired employee of the New York Central Railroad, died Tuesday in Oswego Hospital. Funeral will be Friday with Spring burial in Mexico Village Cemetery. Surviving are his widow Mrs Gladys Hise, two daughters Mrs Pauline Frank and Mrs Linda Jaquin, a son Leonard D, and a sister Mrs Mary Hale. Born June 13, 1908, in Buffalo, son of George and Mataline Zimpsler Hise, he attended Mexico schools and married Gladys M. Phillips July ll, 1933, at Fernwood. The couple has since lived at Pulaski.

  Leonard D. "Beaver" Hise, 51, of Spath Drive, died Saturday at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.
   Mr. Hise was a life resident of Pulaski. He attended Pulaski High School and later worked as a forklift operator at Crouse Hines Co. He also had worked at Pulaski, Wickes and Stellican lumber companies. He was a member of I.B.E.W.
   Surviving are his mother, Gladys M. Hise of Central Square; two sisters, Pauline Filsinger of Liverpool and Linda McKie of Altmar; several nephews; and a niece.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery, Mexico.
   The calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 7385 Park St.

  The marriage of Linda Hise Bell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hise of Pulaskl, and Michael Elven Jaquin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elven Kemp of Texas, took place Saturday, July 27 at Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nelson R. Reppert, pastor, officiating.
  The bride, who was escorted to the altar by Frank Jaquin of Parish, was attired in a white brocade street length dress with a white lace mantilla as a head piece. She carried a colonial bouquet of yellow sweetheart roses.
  Maid of honor was Miss Bette Burns, who wore a beige suit and yellow accessories. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and daisies.
  Best man for his brother was Harold A, Snow. Richard Buckley ushered the guests.
  A reception was held at the Rod and Gun Club Lodge, Texas after the ceremony. Mrs. Jaquin is a graduate of Pulaski Academy and Central School and is employed at General Electric, Syracuse. Mr. Jaquln, a graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School, is employed at Winkrete Precast Corp. He is a veteran of three years service service in the U. S. Army.
  The Jaqulns are residing at R. D. 4, Fulton.

  KENNETH W. PHILLIPS, 43, of 606 Avery Ave., died yesterday at Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
  A life resident of Syracuse, he was a member of Delaware Baptist Church. He was a maintenance man for Industrial Chemicals Division of Allied Chemical Corp., Solvay.
  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Patricia Tierney Phillips; two sons, William H. and Robert K. Phillips; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Murphy; his mother, Mrs. Gertrude B. Phillips; a brother, Earl Fleming of LaFayette, and two grandchildren.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the John C. Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W. Genesee St., the Rev. James E. Durham officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Phillips; son, William Phillips; and her longtime companion, Arnold DuRocher. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (John) Murphy; son, Robert (Kathy); daughter-in-law, Carol Phillips and sister, Kathleen Kiggins. Pat is also survived by her grandchildren, Lorene Mudaliar, William Phillips, Kevin Murphy, Timothy Murphy, Shannon VanSlyke, Kelly Kenney, Sarah Patterson; 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.   Marie P. Phillips, 19, of Oswego County, community of Williamstown was killed early Saturday evening when the motorcycle she was a passenger on struck a car.
  A native of Syracuse, Miss Phillips was the daughter of Elton and Nellie Allan Phillips.
 She was a graduate of Altmar Paris Central School and attended State University College at Potsdam. Miss Phillips had just completed her first year of study at Mercy State School of Nursing. She was a member of the Federated Church of Williamstown.
  Surviving besides her parents, are two brothers, James of Williamstown and Henry Phillips of North Syracuse.

     Esther M. Thomasch, 79, Cleveland, died Sunday in Rome City Hospital.
  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Bernhards Bay Methodist Church with the Rev. William E. McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
  Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Donations may be made to the Bernhards Bay Methodist Church or the Cleveland Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
  Surviving are her husband, four sons, a stepson, a stepdaughter, 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother.
  Born April 11, 1915, in the town of Williamstown, daughter of Elmer and Harriet Gifford Phillips, she had lived in Williamstown until moving to Cleveland in 1983. She attended Williamstown schools.
  She married William L. Barber. He died in 1948. She later married Earl J. Barber. He died Nov. 8, 1965. She married Paul E. Thomasch on Nov. 3, 1984.
  Mrs. Thomasch owned and operated her own beauty shop in Williamstown until retiring in 1980. She also owned a yarn shop for several years and was Williamstown town clerk for 10 years.
  A member of the Bernhards Bay Methodist Church, she was a member of the administrative board of the church, a member and past president of the Cleveland Senior Citizens group and a member of the Ricard Grange 773.
  Mrs. Thomasch was also a teacher's aide volunteer at Cleveland Elementary School.

  WILLIAMSTOWN—William L. Barber, 40, died Saturday in Crouse-Irving Hospital, Syracuse.
  A resident of Williamstown for the past 14 years, he was employed by the Dairymen's League Plant here.
  He was born June 30, 1908, in Osceola, a son of Alonzo and Jennie Chapman Barber. In New Haven, on Dec. 17, 1932, he married the former Esther Phillips.
  Surviving are his wife, four sons, Ellsworth, Ellwyn, Wendell and Wayne, all at home; his father, Altmar; and tour brothers, Earl and Allen Barber, Altmar; Stanley, Boonville, and John Barber, Fort Edwards, Mass. Also several nieces and nephews.
  The body is resting at his late home in Williamstown where friends may call at their convenience. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the Methodist Church at 2:30 p. m., with the Rev. Richard Haynes, officiating. Burial, in charge of B. A. Sanborn and Son, Camden, in Fairview cemetery.


Earl J Barber

  Services for Earl J. Barber, 47, of Williamstown, will be held today (Thursday) with a prayer at the family home at 1:30 p. m. and services from the Federated Church at 2 p. m. The Rev. Rolland Guton, pastor will be assisted by the Rev. Tomkins, chaplin of the Veteran's Hospital in Syracuse. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Williamstown.
  Mr Barber died Monday at Veteran's Hospital in Syracuse following an illness of more than a year.
  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Phillips Barber; four sons; three brothers, Allen of Altmar, John of Parish and Stanley of Port Leyden and six grand children.
  Mr. Barber was born at Altmar July 25, 1919, the son of Alonzo and Jennie Chapman Barber. He was a veteran of World War II and has been employed at Camden Wire Co. until ill health prevented this activity any more.


Paul E Thomasch

  Paul E. Thomasch, 90, of Route 49, Cleveland, died Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.
  Born in Herkimer, he lived in the Utica area before moving to Cleveland in 1974. He was a 1927 graduate of Herkimer High School, and he attended Simmons School of Mortuary Science, Syracuse, and the War Training Program of Advanced Drawing and Engineering at Syracuse University. He retired in 1975 as superintendent of Central Steel Erecting Co., Utica. He was a licensed funeral director at Ballweg Funeral Home, Syracuse, and Langdon Funeral Home, Utica. He was secretary of Cleveland Masonic Lodge 613, past president of the board of directors of the Ziyara Shrine, Utica, a member of Scriba Masonic Lodge 414 and Bernhards Bay United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Utica Council of Churches.
  His first wife, Grace Smith, died in 1936; his second wife, Dorothy Peryea, died in 1978; his third wife, Esther Barber, died in 1994.
  Survivors: A son; a daughter; several stepchildren; two sisters, Mary Miller of New Hartford and Ruth Brown of Little Falls; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cleveland United Methodist Church. Burial, Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home, 631 S.    The bride is the daughter of Hattie L. Phillips. North Camden Road. Parish, and the late Elmer C. Phillips. She was given in marriage by her sons. Ellsworth Barber. Eilwyn Barber and Wayne Barber.
   The bridegroom is the son of the late Paul and Justina Thomasch of Herkimer. Attending the couple were Doris Firsching. Clark Mills, the bridegroom's daughter, and Robert C. Thomasch. Oriskany Falls, the bridegroom's son.
   A reception was held at the church, after which the couple left on a trip to Nova Scotia and Canada. They make their home in Cleveland. NY.
   The bride operates a beauty shop in Williamstown.
   The bridegroom attended Utica College and the Simmons School of Embalming. Syracuse. He is a retired manager of Central Steel Erecting Co. Inc., Utica.
