Only child of George Washington Gallagher and Lillian Dorothea (Izatt) Gallagher. Raised by his widowed mother from the age of 10 and was very close to his maternal grandparents until their deaths in his 16th year. Attended Hancock Grade school and graduated from Wilson High school in St. Paul, Minnesota where he played hockey and lettered in track.
Under weight when he wanted to join the US Marines with his buddies in 1946 -- so he ate several pounds of bananas before and on the street car traveling to the enlistment office! Stationed for two years at Camp Pendleton, California.
Met Betty Lou Simonson on New Years Eve 1949 and married her on October 14, 1950 at Blessed Sacrament Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.
His job transferred him to Phoenix, Arizona in Sept 1958. George worked for AMF installing bowling alleys throughout the southwest in the 1960's, owned a billiard room, worked for a soda pop canning company and for the last twenty years of his life he installed and repaired rolling steel doors.
George worked hard all of his life and was never unemployed in his adult years.
Always a handyman at our home, George could build, repair or remodel just about anything ... carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry and everything else!
