  Winston R. 'Pete' Lunger, 62, Bradenton, died July 16, 1998.
   He was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Montour Falls, N.Y., and moved to Manatee County nine years ago from Waverly, N.Y. He was a senior engineer for IBM in New York. He was a Protestant. He served in the Marines and was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1490 in New York, the American Legion Post 1624 and the International Association of Arson Investigators. He was also on the board of directors for the Pirates Booster Club in Bradenton.
   Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lee; a daughter, Lisa of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three sons, Richard and Peter of Nichols, N.Y., and Gerald of Valdosta, Ga.; a sister, Janet Osgood of Tallahassee; and 13 grandchildren.
   A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bradenton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the AIDS Council of Manatee, 312 2nd Ave. E., Bradenton, FL 34208. Bradenton Funeral Home is in charge.

  Miss Sherry L. Chaffee and Winston R. Lunger recently exchanged vows in the Nichols Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Kiessel, pastor, officiating at the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chaffee of Nichols and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph R. Lunger of Montour Falls.
   Mrs. Ronald Cook, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor and Louis Cardi was the best man.
  After the ceremony, a reception for members of the bridal party and immediate families was held at the home of the bride's parents.
   The bride is a graduate of Tioga Central High School and the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing in Sayre, Pa.
Mrs. Lunger is employed by IBM in Owego.

  Daniel Jon Lunger, 27, Bradenton, died Oct. 25, 1997. He was born April 16, 1970, in Sayre, Pa., and came to Bradenton eight years ago from there.
   An international travel coordinator, he was a board member and interim director of AIDS Council of Manatee and a volunteer for Community AIDS Network. He was a Methodist.
   Survivors include his parents, Sherry L. and Pete, both of Bradenton; a sister, Lisa Wallace of Pensacola; three brothers, Richard and Peter, both of Barton, N.Y., and Gerald of Valdosta, Ga.

Gladys May Kruger

  Gladys M. Krohn, 71, of Youngs Corners Road, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Ellis Hospital with her family by her side. Born on August 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Walter "Buck" and Gertrude Francisco Kruger.
  A lifelong area resident, Gladys attended local schools. She went on to attend Nursing College in Bennington, Vermont. She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital and the Montgomery County Infirmary until her retirement. Gladys was a skilled scrabble player and an avid quilter. She was a member of the Loving Hands and All Seasons Quilt Guild and the Florida Reformed Church.
  On June 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Eugene "Sweetie" Krohn. Together for over 50 years, they raised a beautiful family and made their home in the Town of Florida. Gladys took great pride, and was instrumental in the Francisco Family Reunion. Along with several other family members and cousins, she would plan the reunion each year. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Alice Gaugler.
  Her loving family includes her husband; four sons, James and his wife Jean and their children, Amanda and Angela of Tribes Hill, Bruce and his wife Linda, their children, Paula, Emily and Kevin of the Town of Florida, Patrick and his wife Denise and their children, Jake, Rolland and Veroniqu-e of the Town of Florida, and Walter S. and his wife Joan and their children, Alexandra, Aubrey and Ashley of Hagaman; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  At Gladys's requests, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Chuctanunda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Schenectady County, The Florida Reformed Church or the Florida Volunteer Fire Department, all in care of the funeral home office.
  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

  Miss Gladys May Kruger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter K. Kruger, Amsterdam R.D. 1, was married to Eugene Frederick Krohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Krohn, Amsterdam R.D. 1, Saturday evening at 7 o'clock in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The .Rev. William J. Ritchey officiated at the candle-light service.
  Lawrence Richey presented a program of organ selections and Miss Pauline Rieder sang "I Love You Truly" and "O Promise Me."
   The church;was decorated with palms and bouquets of delphiniums and daisies.
   Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a street length dress of white pique and a white lace hat and carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations.
   Mrs. William G. Gaugler, sister of the bride, who was matron of honor, wore a delphinium blue dress and hat and carried a colonial bouquet of red and white carnations.
   William G. Gaugler served as best man and the ushers were Gerald Myers and Peter Artell, Johnstown, cousin of the bride.
   The bride's mother was attired in a gold and white dress and white hat while the bridegroom's mother wore a lavender and white dress and white hat. Each wore a corsage of white carnations.
   A reception for 150 guests was held at the American Legion Hall after which the couple left on a northern wedding trip. For going away, the bride wore a black and white dress, white accessories and a corsage of white carnations.
   Mr. and Mrs. Krohn will make their home at Amsterdam R.D. 1.
   The bride is a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and trained as a licensed practical nurse at the Henry W. Putnam Memorial Hospital at Bennington, Vt. She is employed on the staff of St. Mary's Hospital.
   The bridegroom is a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School, served three years in the Marines and is now engaged in farming.
   Guests were present at the wedding from Rotterdam Junction, Pattersonville, Fort Plain, Canajoharie, Palatine Bridge, Pittsburgh, Hagaman, Johnstown and Gloversville.

  Miss Edna Mae Knapik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Knapik. Amsterdam R.D. 1. became the bride of Gerald Krohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krohn, Amsterdam R.D. 1. Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in Trinity Lutheran Church.
  The Rev. Paul J. Strenge performed the ceremony in a setting of palms and vases of gladioli, mums, carnations and baby's breath.
   The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in white Chantilly lace and tulle over taffeta fashioned with a scalloped Sabrina neckline encrusted with seed pearls and sequins and bouffant skirt of lace in redingote effect. Her ballerina length veil fell from a crown of pearls and sequins and she carried a bouquet of white roses, feathered carnations and a white orchid.
   Miss Helen Abraham was her cousin's only attendant and wore a gown of light blue Chantilly lace over taffeta with matching hat. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses and carnations with blue baby's breath.
   Alvin DeYoung, Fultonville, was best man and the ushers were Alexander Knapik Jr. and Eugene Krohn. brothers of the bride and bridegroom.
   The mother of the bride was attired in a blue flowered dress and white hat and wore an orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore a pale pink dress, white hat and an orchid corsage.
   A dinner was served at the Elks Club following the ceremony.
   After a wedding trip to Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Krohn will make their home at Amsterdam R.D. 1. The bride wore for going away a yellow dress, white hat and an orchid corsage.
   The bride attended the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and is employed bv the Chalmers Knitting Co.
   Mr. Krohn also attended the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and is employed by the Northeastern Lal-Par Manufacturing Co., Inc.

  PALATINE BRIDGE - Harlie David Ray, 24, truck driver of Palatine Bridge, was killed instantly Monday morning at 8 in Toledo Ohio.
  He fell from the cab of his truck as he was backing it up at a weighing station and the vehicle rolled over him.
  Ray was born Aug. 17, 1929 in Deep Gap, N.C., the son of William and Rosa Church Ray. He spent the greater part of his life there.
  The survivors are his wife, Mrs, Marlene Hime Ray and daughter, Penny, of Palatine Bridge and his parents of Deep Gap, N.C.
  Funeral services will he held Friday afternoon at 2 at the home of his wife's grandfather, Mr. Peter Hime, Grand Street, Palatine Bridge.
  The Rev. Louis Crandell of the Ames Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda.
  The funeral arrangements are in charge of the Houghtaline Funeral Home in Canajoharie.

Charles Abeling

  Mr. Charles Abeling, 80, of Maple Avenue, Canajoharie, New York died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam.
  Born on July 30, 1932 in Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of William Abeling and Dorothy Hoffman Abeling. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and attended Western Reserve University. Mr. Abeling was a lifelong area resident.
  Mr. Abeling started his employment at Beech-Nut, working in the shipping department. He then went on to work in the maintenance department at Lifesavers. He was elected secretary and treasurer of the Labor Union AFLCIO, a position he held for 9 years. Mr. Abeling retired from Lifesavers as personal manager.
  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was with the 7th Army Division, 3rd Infantry Regiment. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, and Bronze Star with Valor Device.
  He was of Lutheran faith.
  Mr. Abeling was a member of the Lifesaver 25 year club, the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks Lodge #2621 B.P.O.E., and of the Fort Plain American Legion Post #554. He also played the trumpet in the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 Band.
  On March 24, 1961 at the Fort Plain Reformed Church Charles was married to Mary Putnam. Together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage.
  Mr. Abeling is predeceased by his parents, sister, Evelyn Claven and grandson, Eric Yauney.
  Mr. Abeling is survived by his wife, Mary Abeling of Canajoharie, NY; 4 daughters, Donna and Ronald Young of Fort Plain, NY, Diane and Alan Yauney of Alaska, NY, Debra and Dixon McFee of Fort Plain, NY, Dolores Fuhs of Lexington, KY; son, Kenneth and Joanne Abeling of Naperville, IL; brother, Richard Abeling of Riverside, CA; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  A graveside service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

  Miss Patricia Ellen Kneaskern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Crawford W. Kneaskern and Airman 2/C Allen E. Clinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Clinton all of Nelliston, were married at 2 yesterday afternoon in the Methodist Church.
   Rev. F. W. Engel, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony. Douglas Neilsen was the soloist and Mrs. Robert Burns, Canajoharie, was the organist.
   The bride, escorted by her father, wore a waltz length gown of white Chantilly lace over taffeta. Her shoulder length veil was of nylon net caught to a bridal cap fashioned of Chantilly lace, aequina and pearls.
   Mrs. Edna Sorval, Van Hornsvllle, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor and wore ballerina length gown of champagne lace over beige taffeta. She carried a cascade of red and white carnations.
   Miss Gall Melick and Miss Diane Clinton, Nelliston, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. they wore identical gowns of ballerina length turquoise lace over taffeta. They carried cascades of varigated turquoise and white carnations.
  The bride's mother wore a street length gown of beige silk and an orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore a street length dress of powder blue lace and chiffon with a corsage of pink roses.
  A reception was held at the Stone Lodge, Palatine Bridge. The couple cut a decorated wedding cake.
  At a rehersal party held at the home of the bride's parents Saturday night the couple presented their attendants personal gifts.
  For traveling the bride chose a street length navy blue satin dress with a gray wool coat with accessories and a corsage of white roses. They will travel through Florida enroute to the base where he is stationed. They will make their home in Larado, Tex.
  The bride was graduated from Fort Plain High School and was formerly employed at the office of Atty. Milburn Smith. The bridegroom was graduated from Fort Plain High School, will serve two more years with the Air Force.

  John R. Clinton, 34, of 550 S. Clinton St., Syracuse, died June 5 at his home following a long illness.
   A native of Rome, Mr. Clinton spent the last 19 years in Syracuse. A singer-songwriter, he was the lead singer in Give John a Razor and Missouri Protocol, which released an album called "Of Spoils and Splendor" in 1993.
   In the late 1980s he worked in the Syracuse newspaper press room. He served in the Army from 1982 to 1983.
  Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Brian Hendrickson, of Rome; his father and stepmother, Allan and Elizabeth Clinton, Skaneateles; a brother, Michael Clinton, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; a sister, Beth Clinton of Wickford, R.I.; a maternal grandmother, Pauline Davis of Fort Plains; maternal grandfather, Crawford Kneaskern of Summerfield, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Joanne Terry of Marlboro, N.J.; paternal grandfather, Les Clinton of Batavia; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and a special friend, Raymond Mendoza of Syracuse.
   Services were June 8 at the Greenleaf Funeral Home, 503 W. Onondaga St., Syracuse.
   Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York or to AIDS Community Resources.

  Miss Sherry L. Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Sanders, Stone Arabia, became the bride of Airman William C. Kneaskern, son of Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Kneaskern, Nelliston at 1 Sunday afternoon in the Reformed Church of Stone Arabia.
   Rev. Frank H. Shimer, pastor of that church, performed the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with baskets of white gladioli. The traditional wedding music was sung and also played on the organ.
   The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. The bride wore a floor length white gown of bonded lace. She had a rounded neckline and long sleeves. The neckline and sleeves were adorned with white satin. She wore a petaled headpiece from which fell a bouffant veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses.
   Miss Lori Sanders, Stone Arabia, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Miss Holly Sanders, Stone Arabia, another sister of the bride, was flower girl.
   Thomas Cerval (sic) II, Van Hornesville, cousin of the bride was the best man. Richard Wagner, Neiliston and Calvin Sanders, Palatine Bridge, cousin of the bride were the ushers. Michael Clinton, Rome, nephew of the bridegroom, was ring bearer.
   The mother of the bride selected a street length dress of light blue lace with matching accessories. She wore a corsage of white roses. The bridegroom's mother chose a light blue crepe sheath with matching accessories and she had a corsage of white roses.
   After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Manor, East Creek. A buffet dinner was served. Music was provided for dancing. More than 125 guests attended from Neiliston, Rome, Fort Plain, Stone Arabia, Van Hornesville, Palatine Bridge and other points.
   After the reception, the couple left for a wedding trip to the northern part of New York State. The couple will reside in Neiliston pending a more definite address, which will depend on the bridegroom's future destination.
   The bride was graduated from Fort Plain Central School and the Utica School of Beauty Culture. She is employed by the Comptone Company of Canajoharie.
   The bridegroom was graduated in 1966 from Fort Plain Central School. He has been serving with the Air Force since February of this year. It is expected he will be sent to Alaska this fall where he will be joined later by his bride.
   The bride was entertained at pre-nuptial parties given by her aunts and co-workers.
