Alda--Don L. Schrock, 77, of Alda died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island, with the Rev. Randy Fett officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Schrock was born on Oct. 19, 1928, in rural Giltner to Carl and Agnes (Jemison) Schrock. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Donna Jean Schrock of Alda; and four daughters and two sons-in-law. Deanna and Ed Meedel and Becky, all of Grand Island, Debra and Reid Kittelson and Cathy, all of Lincoln. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He grew up in Giltner, Hamilton County and attended school in Giltner. He married Gertrude Stager in 1955. He married Donna Jean Wrage on Nov. 1, 1974, at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Alda, where he worked at Alda DX and then at Bosselmans Inc. He was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island and Platt-Duetsche Society. He enjoyed motorcycles and flying airplanes. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leola Fries. Memorials are suggested to the church or family's choice.

Cpl. Jarvis L. Getman, a, native of this village, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Getman, Syracuse, former local residents, was killed in action on Jan. 12 in the Philippine Islands, it was learned here today.
He was a member of an engineering battalion. Getman attended local schools. His father, a printer here for many years, moved with his family to Syracuse about seven years ago.
He is a grandson of Mr, and Mrs. Harvey Getman and a nephew of Mrs. Hattie Seaman, all of this village.

Last writes were conducted Monday afternoon for Michael Wallace Getman, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Getman of 126 Ashdale Avenue, who died in Crouse-Irving Hospital Sunday. Services were conducted at 3 P.M. at the grave in Assumption Cemetery. Besides his parents the infant is survived by Mr . and Mrs. Bernard Wallace and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Getman, all of Syracuse, and his great-grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Getman of Herkimer, Mrs Margaret Lansing and Fred E Kemp, both of Syracuse.

VERNON - Grace Janette Adams, age 91, formerly of Vernon and most recently of the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2012 with her daughter at her side.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1920 in East Herkimer, N.Y., a daughter of the late Clyde and Laura (Eysaman) Petrie. Janette was a graduate of Herkimer High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Syracuse University.
On July 1, 1943 Janette and Charles D. Adams were united in marriage in Brazos, Texas and shared that union until Charles' death on Jan. 28, 1972.
Janette retired on July 1, 1984 from V.V.S. Central School where she spent her entire career as an elementary teacher and reading specialist.
In her earlier years she enjoyed being a Den Mother and Cub Scout leader. Family was most important to Janette. She loved spending time with them, and was an enthusiastic fan of her children and grandchildren as they played sports throughout the years. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, Syracuse basketball, flower gardens and time at camp with her family. She was a very active member of the Vernon United Methodist Church for many years. Other memberships included the Retired Teachers Association and BPW (Business Professional Women).
Surviving are her three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia (Robert) Rowland of Myrtle Beach, Cindy (Paul) Swistak of Verona, Linda (Cliff) Hand of Mayfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan (Doreen) Adams of Geneva, Ill.; two daughters-in-law, Emily Adams of Vernon and Wendy Clark of Wilmington, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, Kim, Jeff, Jim, Kari, Derek, Candace, Julia, Matt, Diana, Rachel, Danette, Shawn, Jenny, Megan, Adam, Ryan and Jason. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Kenna of Schenectady and special friends, Kathy and Mary Dowling.
Grace was predeceased by her husband, Charles; two sons, Charles Adams Jr. and Walter Adams, also two brothers, John and Dickie Petrie.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Oneida Extended Care Facility for the excellent care and compassion given to their mom while she was a resident.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made In Memory of Janette Adams, to the Vernon Methodist Church, 5230 W. Seneca St., Vernon, N.Y. 13476.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. Mrs. Adams' funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Vernon United Methodist Church, East Seneca Street, Vernon with Rev. Frank Loan officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon, N.Y.
Her beauty, sense of humor, and unconditional love have been etched into our hearts. Thank you mom (grandmother) for touching our lives, molding us into who we are, for being you.

VERNON - Charles D. Adams, 54, of 5 School St., Vernon, died early today in Oneida City Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Port Byron, son of Walter H. and Lovina Loomis Adams. He was a resident of Vernon for 21 years. He had previously lived in Canastota.
Mr. Adams was employed in Oneida Community Silversmiths as a production supervisor. He was a member of the Vernon Methodist Church where he was serving as a trustee.
He was a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society, the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Community booster club, the Vernon Library board, the Sherrill Community Associated Clubs, and an organizer of the Vernon Little League.
Mr. Adams was a former trustee of the village of Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in December 1941 and was discharged in 1945. Before his enlistment he was a sergeant in the National Guard.
He married the former Janette Petrie in Brian, Texas, in 1943.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Charles . Adams, Jr., of Vernon, Walter H. Adams, Oneida and Allan W. Adams, at home; three daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Ryder of Nichols, Miss Lucinda (Cindy) and Linda, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Walter Adams of Ilion and a sister, Mrs. Lowell (Rovilla) Heiby, of Perry.
The funeral will be Monday at the Alger-Hammill funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon this spring.

Adams -- West St. Ilion were married July 1 in the post chapel at Bryan field, Texas. The Rev. Edgar H. Winn, post chaplain, performed the ceremony.
The attending couple were Miss Georgia Robinson, Bryan, Tex., and Pvt Donald Meier, Seattle, Wash.
The bride Is a graduate of Herkimer High School and Syracuse University. She has been employed as homemaking teacher in the Mohawk Central School for two years and has been in charge of canteen and nutrition classes for the Nutrition Committee, Junior Red Cross and the Girl Scouts.
Private Adams is a graduate of Ilion High School and now is a radio control tower operator with the Army Air Forces at Bryan Field.

Albany - Charles Bernard Kenna, 90, of Guilderland, NY, died peacefully in his sleep on February 9, 2012.
He was born on June 18, 1921 in Little Falls, NY, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Nash) Kenna.
After graduating from Herkimer High School in 1939, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country on Guadalcanal during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a major after the war.
Chuck enjoyed the rest of life as a devoted husband and father in Herkimer, NY, Colonie, NY, and Sebring, FL, finally returning to end his days in Guilderland, NY.
He was a member of the Community Reformed Church of Colonie and the Lynwood Reformed Church, a life member of the Colonie Elks, and served as a town trustee in Herkimer.
Celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary on Feburary 2, 2012, chuch is survived by his wife, Catherine (Petrie); and his eight children, Michael (Joann) Kenna of Puyallup, Wash. Larry (Susan) Kenna of Beverly, Mass., Bruce (Toni) Kenna of Manchester, N.H., Deborah (B.J.) Todd of Guilderland, Christine (Juan) LaPaix of Albany, Donald (Mary) Kenna of Clifton Park, Thomas Kenna of Guilderland and Jennifer Kenna of Guilderland. Chuck leaves behind 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
The graveside burial will be held on Tuesday, February 14, at 10 a.m. at Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.

Jane A. Petrie age 81 of Rasbach Road formerly Herkimer passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 10, 2005 in her home.
She was born on January 15, 1924 in Little Falls, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Harrigan Malone. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Little Falls and was a graduate of Little Falls High School. On April 14, 1951 she was united in marriage with John H. Petrie in Saint Mary's Church Little Falls. A loving and devoted union of fourty-three years he preceded her in daeth on November 15, 1994. In 1996 she moved from Herkimer to Fairfield.
Mrs. Petrie had worked for the Cherry Burrell Company in Little Falls and later for Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer, retiring in 1985.
While living in Herkimer she was a member of Saint Frances deSales Church herkimer.
Most of all Jane loved her family and her home. Her leisure time was spend baking, cooking and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing cards. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are one son, John H. Petrie Jr. and his wife Patricia of Herkimer, two daughters and their husbands, JoAnn and Floyd Lyon of Little Falls, Ellen and Wayne Hight of Clarksville, TN, a son-in-law, Robert Kane of St.Charles,MO, two brothers, Charles Malone of Laconia, NH, Joseph and his wife Dorothy Malone of TX, two sisters, Ann Morgan of San Diego, CA, Mary Kiernan of Cortland,NY, eight grandchildren, Brian Hight, Alex and his wife Michelle Hight, Sarah Lyon, Matthew Lyon, Katelyn Lyon, Joseph Petrie, Alan Petrie and Megan Kane, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband John she was preceded in death by her daughter Laurie Kane in 1992.
Funeral from fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Str., Herkimer on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial woll be celebrated at 11:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. The Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Committal in Oak Hill Cemetery will take place at a later time convenient to the family. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Depatment. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
