   Audrey Joyce Sharp Knight died Thursday, Oct. 12, at her home in Leadville. She was 76 years old. She was born in Grand Island, Neb., on Oct. 21, 1929. Her parents were the late Benjamin ... Adeline (Kirkpatrick) Sharp. On Jan. 1, 1950, she married James W. Knight in Grand Island where they continued to live until 1960 when they moved to Climax. James Knight went to work for the Climax Molybdenum Mine and Audrey Knight raised their family of three children. In 1964 they purchased their home on Mt. Harvard where she continued to live.   James Warren Knight Leadville resident James Warren Knight, 81, died June 6 at St. Vincent Hospital. Knight was born in Grand Island, Neb., on July 28, 1922, to Ward and Alice (Raymond) Knight. He went to school in Grand Island and then entered the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, Knight returned to Grand Island and on Jan. 1, 1950, married the former Audrey Sharp at the Assembly of God Church. Knight worked as a truck driver for Norden's Laboratory while in Grand Island. In 1960, they moved to Leadville where Knight went to work for the Climax Molybdenum Mine, Stork Level.   Hastings resident, Velma M. Varah, passed away June 18, 2009 at the Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, NE.
   Velma was born February 13, 1920 to Lew and Samantha (Sharp) Fox in Phillips, NE. She graduated from Hastings High School. She married Kenneth Varah on September 4, 1959 in Hastings, NE. She worked her early years for the Navy Ammunition Depot and later she was a book keeper for serveral businesses in Hastings and was last employed by the Hastings Utilities for 27 years retiring in 1990.
  She was a member of the Lakeside Church of the Nazarene, in Hastings, NE where she worked with the children's department for many years.
  She is survived by her husband Kenneth of Hastings, NE, 1 daughter, Marlys Shride and husband Michael of Eureka, IL, grandchildren, Kimberly Babbs and husband Jerry and Christopher Shride and wife Jennifer, great grandchildren, Molly, Blake and Coby Babbs, and Morgan, Christian, Chas and Makenzie Shride. brothers, Frank Fox and Ray Fox and wife Mary, and sister Burnice Hyman and husband Lester all of Omaha, NE.

  Kenneth W. Varah, 93, passed away January 10, 2011, at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care, Hastings, NE. Kenneth was born February 19, 1917 to William and Blanche (McCready) Varah in Doniphan, NE.
   Kenneth lived his early life on a farm near Trumbull, NE then became a lifelong resident of Hastings, NE. He was in the Army and served during World War II from June 2, 1941 to November 19, 1945. He married Velma Fox on September 4, 1959; she passed away on June 18, 2009. He worked at the Navel Ammunition Depot, farmed and drove a semi until he retired in 1985.
  Kenneth was a member of the Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene, in Hastings, NE.
  Kenneth is survived by one daughter, Marlys Shride and husband Mike of Decatur, IL, brother, Wilbur Varah of Oregon, grandchildren, Kim Babbs and husband Jerry and Chris Shride and wife Jennifer all of Michigan, and 7 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
  Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Velma, and brothers Leonard and Carl Varah.

  Viola M. "Vi" Rembolt, 85 of Grand Island died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Tiffany Care Center, Grand Island, Nebraska. Viola was 85 years of age having been born on January 27, 1924, in Hansen, Nebraska to Freddie and Lilly (Sharp) Strohl.
  Vi grew up in Doniphan, Nebraska graduating from Doniphan (Nebraska) High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Gerald J. Rembolt on October 8, 1949, at Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple resided in Grand Island, Nebraska where she was employed at Dutton-Lainson in Hastings, Nebraska; Fairmont Creamery and Carpenter Paper Company, both of Grand Island, Nebraska. She worked for the American Crystal Sugar Company during two campaigns of World War II.
  She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Grand Island, Nebraska and the American Legion Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska.
  Vi is survived by: her husband, Gerald J. Rembolt of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Barry Vogt of Larkspur, Colorado and a host of friends and relatives.
  Vi was welcomed into The Heavenly Home by: her parents, Freddie and Lily Strohl; one brother and one sister.


Gerald Jacob Rembolt

  Gerald "Jake" Rembolt, 86, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Lakeview Care Center, Grand Island. Mr. Rembolt was born March 11, 1923, at Chapman to Fred Sr. and Mae (Urwiller) Rembolt. He was united in marriage to Viola "Vi" Strohl on Oct. 8, 1949, at Faith United Methodist Church of Grand Island. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2009.
  Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Barry Vogt of Larkspur, Colo.; and a sister, Rose Sassen of Grand Island and two grandsons, Tony and Aaron Vogt.
  He received his education attending District 32 and graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1941. He entered the United States Navy on Sept. 14, 1943 and was honorably discharged on March 23, 1946.
  The couple resided in Grand Island, were he was employed for 23 years by BeeLine Motor Freight, Burlington Truck Line and Sullivan's Transfer.
  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, A Golden Eagle member and lifetime member of the American Legion.
  He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Harvey, Earl, Marvin and Fred Rembolt.

  Ms. Glidden passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2004, after a short battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family at home.
  Ms. Glidden was born March 24, 1942, in Grangeville and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1960.
  She began raising her family in Fort Hood, Texas. She returned to Clarkston in 1962 and then moved in 1970 to Spokane, where she started college and earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1976 from Washington State University. Mary worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center from 1973 to 1975; Raleigh Hills Hospital, 1975 to 1976; Kaiser Aluminum, 1976 to 1977; Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center, 1977 to 1979; and Intracrop, 1980 to 1987.
  In 1987, Mary started her own business, Medical Rehabilitation Consultants. This was the best way she felt she could use her medical knowledge and talents to help others with catastrophic injuries and illnesses. The business continues to be a growing success and will continue as part of her legacy.
  She was a member of numerous professional and military organizations and was very proud of her many hard-earned credentials.
  In 1975 she joined the U.S. Army Reserves. She proudly served the United States in active duty for the Army in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an intelligence and operations officer. She retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2003.
  Mary was very energetic and loved life, living each day to the fullest with an adventurous spirit. Her many interests and passions included being with her family, gardening, family camp-outs, cooking, wine, travel, snow skiing, Christmas, reading, dancing and helping others. Her most important joys were her grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Glidden; her parents, Jim and Bessie Sharp; brother Jerry Sharp; and sister Pauline Beeler.
