FONDA — Johnstown Reformed Church was the setting on Sept. 15 for the wedding of Lorraine Marie Brooker and Darrell Getman. Officiating at the service was the Rev. Jack H. Millard.
The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tony Sheckton of Amsterdam and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Getman, Hickory Hill Road, Fonda.
The bride waa given in marriage by her son, Jack Sheckton. Gail Pacillo of Amsterdam, niece of the bride, was the maid of honor. The best man was Kevin Getman of Canajoharie RD, brother of the bridegroom.
A reception for 60 guests from Fort Plain, Fonda, Fultonville, Canajoharie and Amsterdam was held at Maze’s Hotel in Fonda.
Following a honeymoon trip to Lake George, the couple is residing in Fonda.
Mrs. Getman is a 1970 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and is employed as a nurse’s assistant at the Montgomery County Infirmary in Amsterdam.
Her husband, a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Central School and SUNY at Brockport, is supervisor of income maintenance with the Montgomery County Social Services in Fonda.

Mrs. Betty Lou Christman Nelson, age 89, recently of the Palatine Nursing Home, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on February 6th, 2020.
She was the daughter of JW and Edna Christman born on May 1, 1930. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Stone Arabia.
She started her education in a one room schoolhouse in Stone Arabia. She then attended the Fort Plain High School graduating in June of 1947. She then briefly attended Morrisville College before coming home and starting work at the Sealtest Corp. located in Fort Plain.
She married the love of her life, Franklin “Bucky” Nelson on September 24, 1949.
Betty worked a variety of jobs over the years, but it was farming that was in her blood. They would eventually buy a 300-acre working dairy farm on New Turnpike Road and operated it for at least 10 years. Betty, a hard worker for her entire life, was wife, mom, dairy farmer, and whatever was needed to provide a loving home for her husband and two daughters.
Upon the sale of the farm, she had jobs with Johnstone Florist, Hawkins Auto Sales and lastly, Christman Cycle Sales.
She enjoyed their many trips to Myrtle Beach, SC which sometimes became family affairs to her delight, golfing, her gardens and spending time with her family and friends. During her younger years she was an avid horse rider; that and her gardening skills were passed along to he two daughters.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband of 59 years on February 1, 2009.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra A. (John) Eckler of Fort Plain and Cindy L. (John) Grimm of fort Plain. She has two grandsons, John J. Eckler and Mathew P. (Carrie) Grimm of Somerville, Texas. She is much loved by all and will be missed dearly.
A graveside service and burial will be at a yet to be set date in the spring.

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Christman, Wagners Hollow, Fort Plain RD 2, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday evening at the Harry C. Smith Benefit Club, St. Johnsville.
The party was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Christman's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Nelson; Mrs. Christman's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer B. Hawkins, and the couple's grandchildren, Mrs. John Eckier and her husband, and Miss Cindy Nelson.
J. W. Chnstman and the former Edna Getman, both lifetime area residents were married June 19,1929, in the bride's home in Stone Arabia, by Dr. William Baum, then pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie. The attendants were Victor Getman, brother of the bride, who now resides in Fultonville, and Mrs. Addie Lane Plimpton, who presently lives in Ballston Spa. Both attended Sunday's party.
Over 200 friends, neighbors and relatives of the couple joined in the observance. A buffet luncheon was served and the couple received many cards, flowers and gifts to commemorate the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Christman also cut a decorated anniversary cake.
Music for dancing was furnished by Vic Sgambato and his band.
Mr. Christmas is a retired farmer and hay dealer. He also was employed by the Canals Division of the New York State Department of Transportation. Mrs. Christman is a housewife.

Mrs. Joan M. Leneker, 76, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, NY passed away from this life on Saturday, November 24, 2007. She was born in Little Falls, NY on February 25, 1931 the daughter of the late Harlin and Dorcas Dillenbeck Devendorf.
Upon graduation from St. Johnsville Central Schools, she attended the Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Of recognition is the fact she attended the same Institute, majoring in art, as he mother, Docas Devendorf did before her. During this period from 1918-1922, the Institute was known as the Applied School of Design.
Mrs. Leneker furthered her education at Oneonta State University earning a BS and MS Degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 20 years at the David H. Robins Elementary School in St. Johnsville, NY, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed many summers and travels to the Adirondacks, especially the family camp, built in 1927 at Stoner Lake, NY. She enjoyed and excelled at gardening, especially growing Champion Iris. She led by example and encouraged the personal and professional development of individuals, family and friends through her involvement with Community Theatre, Sunday School, Scouts and the American Foreign Exchange Program. Her lifelong membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution is rare, as her direct descendent lineage dates back to Lt. Colonel Peter Waggoner, NY who served in the Revolutionary War.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Barton D. Leneker Of Palatine Bridge, NY; three sons, Joel B. Leneker of Monroe, CT, Lee W. Leneker of Palatine Bridge, NY and Daniel J. Leneker of Gloversville, NY.
Mrs. Leneker was predeceased by a son, Stephen T. Leneker in 1978 and her brother, Harlow Devendorf in 1993.
A funeral to celebrate the life of Joan M. Leneker will be held on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 11a.m. at the Reformed Church of Canajoharie, Front Street, with the Rev. Lisa Vander Wal officiating. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4 until 7 Thursday evening at the Lenz $ Betz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Miss Joan Mary Devendorf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Devendorf, Center St., and Barton Leneker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delancey Leneker, Lafayette St., Palatine Bridge, were married in a double ring ceremony in a candlelight service at St. John's Reformed Church --- by the Rev. Ernest Crouse, pastor of the church.
Baskets and vases of white snapdragons, pink geraniums, mixed with greens decorated the church which was lighted with white candles.
A half hour of organ music was provided by Mrs. Gilberta Lull previous to the ceremony and vocal solos, "At. Dawning." and '"Ich Liebor Dieh" were rendered by Adrian Gray.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a princess style ballerina length gown of white shantung with fitted bodice having a bateau neckline with deep yoke and short sleves of Point de Lyon Lace.The flared skirt was over crinoline and she wore a finger tip silk veil of french illusion net attached to a cap of matching lace and pearls. She carried a spring bouquet of white orchids and bachelor buttons with white satin streamers attached.
Mrs. Harlow Devendorf sister in law of the bride, was matron of honor and wore a ballerina length gown of light blue silk shantung, with flared skirt. Her nose veil was of nylon net and was attached to a small blue velvet band. She carried a bouquet of pink daisies and blue batchelor buttons.
Miss Helen Mazur was bridesmaid, and wore a ballerina length gown of light blue silk shanting with fitted bodice, and a nylon net nose veil attached to a small band of blue velvet. She also carried a bouquet of pink
daisies and blue bachelor buttons.
David Dievendorf, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.
Earl Sandford, of Providence, R. I. acted as best man, and the ushers were Harlow Devendorf, brother of the bride, and Everett Nichols and Walter Rouse of Canajoharie.
The bride's mother wore a street length dress of Dior blue ---with white accessories and a coursage of pink sweetheart roses. The bridegroom's mother chose a street length dress of mauve lace and net oveatin, with navy accessories and a coursage of pink sweetheart roses.
Two hundred guests attended the reception held at Fort Rensselaer Club, Canajoharie, folloeing the ceremonyat which a buffet luncheon was served and the newly weds cut their four tiered wedding cake.
Guests were present from St. Johnsville, Canajoharie, Fort Plain. Schenectady, Gloversville, Palatine Bridge, Stone Arabia, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
For her wedding trip the bride chose a beige linen sheath dress with box jacket, brown and white accessories and wore an orchid coursage. Upon their return the couple will reside at LaFayette Street, Palatine Bridge.
The bride was graduated from St. Johnsville Central School and attended Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. She is employed as a labrotory technician at the Palatine Dyeing Co. St. Johnsville.
The groom was graduated from Canajoharie Centreal School and was a paratrooper serving in the 507th Air Borne Division of the Army.

Edward D. Fox Sr., 65, of Stone Arabia Street, Nelliston, died suddenly Monday at the Amsterdam Riverfront Dialysis Center.
He was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Nelliston, the son of David L. and Alice E. Lampman Fox. He was educated at the former Nelliston School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Fox was a bulk tank truck driver for several area dairies. He retired from Delwood Dairy in Herkimer in 1997.
Mr. Fox served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was a member of Fort Plain American Legion Post 554, Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Lodge 2621, Canajoharie Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 853, Ephratah Rod and Gun Club, and Earl Stock Memorial VFW Post 3275 in Fort Plain.
Survivors include two sons, Edward D. Fox Jr. of Gloversville and Jeffrey A. Fox of Nelliston; a brother, Richard Fox of Fonda; five sisters, Myra Fox of Fort Plain, Jean Vainauskas of Hagaman, Elizabeth Belfance of Perth, Raylene Cole of Amsterdam, and Alma Wells of Mount Morris; and one grandson.
A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at the Gray, Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
There will be no calling hours.

Richard Owen Belfance, 89, of St. Hwy 30, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday evening, February 6, 2014, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Pattersonville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles Albert and Luetta (Bennet) Belfance. He was a lifelong area resident who attended Pattersonville schools until sixth grade, when he went on to help his family and work on the family farm. Richard was an excellent mechanic and loved restoring old cars in his spare time. He was employed at various garages in the area until 1972, when he opened his own business at his residence for over 45 years. In his later years Richard enjoyed riding around on his tractors and could often be seen sitting out in front of his home. He also enjoyed getting in a car and going for a nice ride. Richard will always be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor.
He married Elizabeth I. Fox on August 16, 1952. She predeceased him in September of 2008. Richard is survived by daughters, Irene E. Hayes (Butch) of Saranac, N.Y., Barbara J. Saul (Ed) of Mayfield, Rebecca J. Trombetta (Mark) of St. Johnsville and Kathy J. Lawson (Robert) of Amsterdam; his son, David C. Belfance of Perth; sisters, Edna Phelps, Alberta Wauffle and Naiomi Sokalski; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and special friends, Fran and Bruce also survive. Richard was predeceased by not only his wife and parents, an infant daughter, Penny Belfance; but also his sisters, Marion Blakeslee, Ellen Baran, and Irene Belfance, who passed away at a very young age.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010 on Thursday, February 13, 2014. A service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of Richards' family.

Miss Rebecca Belfance, Perth, sister of the bride and Miss Loraine Burroughs, Fort Hunter, friend of the bride, were the bridemaids. Miss Kathy Belfance, Perth, sister of the bride was junior bridesmaid. Flower girl was Miss Deanne Peters, Hope, niece of the bridegroom.
Best man was Paul Hayes, Fonda, brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were James Potter of Speculator, brother of the bridegroom and Robert Peters, Hope, brother-in-law of the bridegroom. Ring bearer was Michael Fox, Fort Plain, cousin of the bride.
A reception for 200 was held at the VFW in Fort Plain after the ceremony with the Black Velvets providing the music. After a trip to Vermont the couple will be at home at Plattsburgh.
The bride is a 1972 graduate of Perth Central School. She has attended practical nurses classes at BOCES.
The bridegroom is a 1971 graduate of Wells Central School. He is serving with the Air Force, stationed in Plattsburgh.

WHITESBORO - Catherine N, Copperwheat 78, of Main St, died, July 1,1987, in Faxton Hospital.
She was born in Richfield Springs, September 3, 1908, the daughter of William and Catherine Naughton Northrup. She received her education at Utica Free Academy, and married Henry G. Copperwheat, October 16, 1928, in St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Mrs. Copperwheat was a member of St. Paul's Church, and was a charter member of St. Paul's Women's Club.
Besides her husbane, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Lois Copperwheat of Rochester; five grandchildren, Sharon Ciazek, of Marcy, William Copperwheat Jr., of Whitesboro, Gregory Copperwheat of Oregon, Brian Copperwheat of Webster, and Carol Schweigert of Rochester, nine greatgrandchildren, and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lee Northrup.
The funeral will be Friday morning at 9:30, at the J.W. Dimbleby Funeral Home, 40 Main St. Whitesboro, and at 10:00 at St. Paul's Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9.

Her attendant waa attired in gray with blue accessories and blue hat and had a corsage of gardenias.

Mrs. Weir attended Monroe Street School and has been employed by the Little Falla Felt Shoe Company. The bridegroom attended Mohawk High School and is now employed at Elmira. Following a trip, the couple will reside in Elmira.
