  Mr. John R. Nemcek, age 76, of 218 Loomis St., Little Falls, beloved husband of Geraldine "Judy" Nemcek, entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, March 24, 2003 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, following a brief illness.
  Mr. Nemcek was born on October 24, 1926 in Little Falls a son of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Mocko) Nemcek. He graduated from Little Falls High School with the class of 1944 and was a lifelong resident of Little Falls. John proudly served our country with the United States Navy.
  On June 29, 1947 he was joined in marriage with the former Geraldine "Judy" Grainer in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. They shared a close and loving union of 55 years. He was last employed for many years as housing director of the Little Falls Housing Authority. At one time he was employed by the Merchant's Mutual Insurance Company, where he served for 20 years. He began his working career as a New York State Trooper throughout Central New York. His faith was very important to him and was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mr. Nemcek was a tremendous sports fan. He spearheaded the growth and development of the Little Falls Pop Warner League and was part owner of the Little Falls Met's. He enjoyed watching the Syracuse University Sports Teams. John was a respected businessman involving himself with many community-oriented activities. He was a man who gave freely of himself, his time and gifts for the benefit of his family, friends and colleagues. He was a member of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42, served on the Little Falls Board of Public Works, the Little Falls Police and Fire Boards and was involved with the former Shriners Temple in Little Falls. He enjoyed taking care of his home and conversing with his friends at McDonald's in Little Falls and was a collector of model cars.
  He leaves his beloved wife of Geraldine, of the home address, two sons, John Paul Nemcek of Little Falls and Robert F. Nemcek and wife Janice of Little Falls, two cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Nemcek of Utica and Clint R. Nemcek of Little Falls and one cherished great grandson, Steven Banks of Utica, nieces and nephews, Eric Nemcek and family of Utah, Karen Nemcek and family of Utah, Ellyn Cavanaugh and family of Maryland and David Ford and family of Nevada. Also surviving are many inlaws, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul L. Nemcek and Stephen Nemcek and a sister, Elizabeth Cavanaugh.
  Visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Nemcek's funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Thursday morning, March 27, from the funeral home and at 10am from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Gansevoort St., Little Falls with the Rev. Carl Evans, pastor, officiating. John will be laid to rest this spring in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy. In lieu of floral offerings kindly consider honoring John's memory with contributions to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family extends its sincere gratitude to the staffs at Little Falls Hospital and St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the deep personal concern and the compassionate care given to John and his family during this difficult time. Members of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 will gather at the funeral home at 6 pm on Wednesday evening to conduct their service.

  LITTLE FALLS - Kenneth Grainer, 78 0f 590 E. Monroe Street, Little Falls passed away Saturday, January 17, 2005 at the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls where he had been a resident since January 7, 2005.
  He was born on February 21, 1926 in Little Falls the son of late Frank and Rita (Goodbread) Grainer. He was educated in Richfield Springs and Little Falls Schools.
  He was united in marriage to his wife of 56 years the former Mary Swartz on April 9, 1948 in Newport, NY.
  Mr. Grainer was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on June 8, 1944. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman Second Class on July 8, 1946.
  He was a ember of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the Little Falls German Maennechor and served as a member of the Little Falls Call Firemen's Association for 20 years. He was an avid Syracuse University Basketball and NY Yankees fan.
  Mr. Grainer was employed as an assembler for the Cherry - Burrell Corp., Little Falls for 42 years. Retiring in 1988.
  A devoted husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife Mary, 2 sons Richard K. Grainer and John A. Grainer, both of Little Falls , a brother Bernard Grainer and his wife Winifred, Florida, 4 sisters Judy Nemcek, Little Falls, Lucille Bruce and her husband Sheldon, Vermont, Arlene Pugliese, Utica and Dorothy Scanlon, Herkimer, 2 cherished grandchildren Lauren Grainer, Herkimer and Ryan Grainer, Albany, 3 special nephews John Nemcek, Jeffrey Grainer and Bruce Grainer all of Little Falls and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased brothers Glen Grainer, Gerald (Pete) Grainer, Francis (Red) Grainer and John R. Grainer, who predeceased him on January 7, 2005.
  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Recto of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring.
  Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning.

  SOUTH BARRE – Sheldon L. "Shelly" Bruce Jr., 78, of South Barre Road, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
  Born on Oct. 5, 1931, in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of Sheldon L. and Marguarite H. (Cardi) Bruce Sr. He attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1949. Before entering the service, Shelly worked for the former J.J. Newberry Co. From 1951 to 1955, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Briareus during the Korean Conflict.
  On June 28, 1952, he married Lucille Grainer in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre.
  Through the years, Shelly had worked for several area companies including the Sunbeam Bread Co. as a salesman, Perry Auto Co. as parts manager, and Bond Auto in the parts warehouse. In 1985, he began working in the insulation business and later owned and operated the Four Seasons Insulation Co. with Ralph Ainsworth.
  In earlier years, he was a member of the Knights of Pythias of Barre. His interests were fishing, coin collecting and woodworking.
  Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Lucille Bruce; and his son, Shawn Bruce, and his wife, Jill, all of South Barre; three grandchildren, Michael Bruce, Jaime Bruce and Adam LaFlamme; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Jaiden, Janessa and Carsen; three sisters, Alice Smith of Orange, Barbara Durkee, and Dorothy Johnson and her husband, Ernest; and a brother, James Bruce, and his wife, Vicki, all of Pompano Beach, Fla.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Susan LaFlamme.
  His graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.

  LITTLE FALLS - John R. Grainer, Sr., 70 of 220 Church Street, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 7, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home.
  He was born on October 9, 1934 in Little Falls the son of the late Frank and Rita (Goodbread) Grainer. He was educated in Richfield Springs schools.
  He was united in marriage to the former Mary Lou Barnes on August 30, 1958 in Albany.
  Mr. Grainer was a veteran of the US Army. Entering the service on December 27, 1954 in Albany. He served with the 417th T Co., at Ft. Eustis, VA. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1956.
  He was a member of the Little Falls German Maennechor, the Little Falls Moose Lodge # 615, IOOM, and the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls and was a member of the Little Falls Call Firemen's Association for 12 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills Fan and enjoyed following WWF Wrestling.
  Mr. Grainer after returning from the service was first employed as a firefighter for the City of Little Falls Fire Dept. for 2 years. In 1958 he transferred to the Dept. of Public Works where he remained for 39 years retiring as an Asst. Street Foreman in August of 1994.
  A devoted and loving family man he is survived by his wife Mary Lou, 2 sons John R. Grainer, Jr. and his wife Susie, Herkimer and Jeffrey A. Grainer and his wife Cindy, Little Falls, 4 daughters Debra Pendolf and her husband Joseph, Little Falls, Kathy Grainer, Little Falls, Jodi Grower and her husband Richard, Little Falls and Lori Denmark and her husband Michael, Little Falls, 2 brothers Kenneth Grainer and his wife Mary, Little Falls and Bernard Grainer and his wife Winifred, Florida, 4 sisters Judy Nemcek, Little Falls, Lucille Bruce and her husband Sheldon, Vermont, Arlene Pugliese, Utica and Dorothy Scanlon, Herkimer, 13 grandchildren Joseph, Jr., Jason and Justin Pendolf, Joe Paracka, Sara, John III and Shannon Grainer, Jacob Bennett, Vincent and Johanna Grainer, Richard, Jr. and Ryan Grainer and Shohna Grainer, 4 great grandchildren Cory and Blake Grainer, Kyle Paracka and Jade Pendolf and several nieces and nephews.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring.

  Miss Arlene Grainer, 202 Steadwell Ave., daughter of Mrs. Rita Grainer. Newport, became the bride of Joseph Puglisi Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Puglisi. 351 Division St, in a ceremony performed by the Rev. Joseph C. Beck Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Michael's Church.
  Wedding selections were played by Mrs. L. Paul Masto, organist, as the bridal party entered and left the church. During the nuptial service. Mrs. Masto sang "Ave Maria". Schubert, and "On This Day,  "O Beautiful Mother".
  The altar was adorned with palms and flowers.
  Given in marriage by her brother, Bernard Grainer, Little Falls, the bride wore a gown of white Cliantilly lace and nylon tulle over satin designed with a fitted bodice, illusion neckline edged with scalloped lace and crystal pleating. Queen Anne collar and lace paneled skirt forming into a fanshaped train. Herfingertip veil of French illusion was caught to a half hat of nylon tulle and lace trimmed with sequins. She carried a prayer book topped with a cluster of lilies of the valley and a white orchid.

  Born in Norwalk, he was the son of Ward and Beulah Hale Goodbread. In 1964 he married Barbara Wolfe.
  He was last employed as a carpenter by Smith Custom Homes.
  Survivors Include a son, David and two daughters, Michele and Shelly; a brother, Carl Goodbread and a sister, Miss Zelda Goodbread, both of St. Johnsville.

  Betty J. Albrecht, 85, of 153 N. Gardinier Road, Little Falls, and more recently a resident of the Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Little Falls, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012.
  She was born on March 13, 1927, in Little Falls; the daughter of the late Newell and Lucille (Goodbred) Haberman. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School.
  She was united in marriage to her husband of 56 years, Edward T. Albrecht, on September 1, 1951, at St. Paul's Universalist Church, Little Falls. Mr. Albrecht predeceased her on July 1, 2007.
  Mrs. Albrecht was employed for over twenty years as a library clerk for Herkimer County Community College.
  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Joseph Alberico, Mohawk; and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls.

  Mindenville Man, Native of This City, Dies of Injuries Received in Motor Accident
  ST. JOHNSVlLLE - Stanley G. Sheldon, 27, Mlndenville, was fatally injured Sunday morning about 5 o'clock when his light model convertable left Route 5 at the east end of the bridge over Caroga Greek three miles east of St Johnsville. The westbound machine crossed to the south side of the highway, Just missed the side of the bridge, struck and sliced off a heavy utility pole, and came to rest against a second pole and a tree.
  These prevented the vehicle from continuing down an embankment into the creek.
  The injured man was taken in an ambulance to Little Falls Hospital where he died at 5:45 o'clock. Dr. Raymond Wytrwal of this village, who attended at the scene and at the hospital, said death was due to compound fractures of the pelvis and right hip with internal hemorrhages. Dr. Wytrwa1, Montgomery County coroner, said there would be no autopsy and no inquest and that he would give a verdict of accidental death.
  The car was almost completely wrecked and the victim was pinned fast so that those who reached the scene first had to pry away part of the maehine to extricate him. Sheldon was alone.
  State Troopers Kenneth Conlin and Roger Doran of the Fonda sub-station made the investigation
at the scene.
  Sheldon had been associated with his father. Millard R. Sheldon, in road building and other heavy construction work throughout Central New York.
  He was born in Amsterdam, June 9, 1925, a son of Millard R. and Nellie Goodbred Sheldon. He attended school in St. Johnsville and entered the U.S. Navy in May, 1943, serving until May. 1946. A considerable part of that time was spent in the Philippines. He was a member of Starr-Colorito Post. VFW, St. Johnsville.
  The survivors are his wife. Mrs. Bettie Dodson Sheldon, and one son. Stanley Glen Sheldon, also his parents, of Mindenville, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
  Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family home in Mindenville. The Rev. Ernest Crounse of the St. John's Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
  Full military honors will be accorded by members of St. Johnsville VFW and the American Legion posts. A meeting of both veteran organizations to arrange for the funeral will be held tonight in the Legion rooms.

  BETTY DODSON WED TO STANLEY SHELDON
  ST. JOHNSVTLLE-Miss Betty Dodson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dodson, and Stanley Sheldon,
son of Mr., and Mrs. Millard Sheldon of Mindenville, were married at the bride's home Sunday afternoon at 1. Rev. Floyd Buchhola, of St. Paul's Lutheran church performed the ceremony.
  The bride waa attired in a white eyelet dress, and wore a corsage of pink roses.
  Attending the young couple were Mr. and Mrs. Garwood Dodson, brother and sister-in law of the bride. Mrs. Dodson wore a blue dress, with a corsage of gardeaias.
  A dinner for the wedding party and the immediate families of the young couple was served at the Antlers, West St. Johnsville.
  Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon left for a two weeks' trip to the Thousand Islands and Canada. Upon their return, they will take up residence in Mindenville.
  Mrs. Sheldon was graduated from St. Johnsville high school, and has been employed by the Little Falls Felt Shoe Co. In its St. Johnsville plant. Mr. Sheldon, who also attended St. Johnsville high school, recently was discharged from the Navy after more than two years' service, much of which was spent overseas. He Is employed by his father, who Is a contractor currently working on a project at Lyons Falls.

  FORT PLAIN—A variety shower was given Tuesday in honor of Miss Mildred Lampman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lampman, who will become the bride of George Brayman of Binghamton, on Saturday, September 3 at the home of Mrs. Adolph Sommers in Nelliston. A color scheme of pink and white with white wedding bells made the home very attractive. Games were played and a bridal hunt was enjoyed by all. Many beautiful and useful gifts were received by the bride-elect.

  FORT PLAIN — Harold "Hockey" Billington, 54, of 5 Wagner St., died yesterday afternoon of a heart attack in Amsterdam City Hospital. He had been ill only two hours.
  Born Jan. 5, 1904 in Nelliston, he was the son of Charles and Lelah Lampman Billington.
  Mr. Billington attended local schools. He had been employed for 28 years as sales representative of the Texaco Oil Co. He was a member of the Universalist Church of the Messiah, Fort Plain, and of Fort Plain Lodge No.433. F&AM.
  Survivors include his wife, the former Madoline Frederick; two sons, Richard, of Nelliston. and Robert, at home; his stepfather, Howard Lipe, Fort Plain; a half sister, Mrs. Lester Mosher, Batavia; his grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Lampman. and one aunt, Ida Lampman, of Pittsburg, Pa.; two nieces and two nephews.
  Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Swartz funeral home, Fort Plain, with the Rev. James Alcock, former pastor of the Universalist Church of the Messiah and now pastor of the Universalist Church of Southold, L.I., officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.  - Diane and I spent quite a bit of time together while growing up. Because our family was very close, she and I would often play together on weekends. We had Kool-Ade stands that her mother, Adeline, would set up for us. We never sold very much, but got to drink a great deal of it. I also remember Diane and I making peanut butter in this small toy food grinder. I think it was pretty awful but we liked it. We also went swimming and boating together during the summer months at her mon & dad's camp on Caroga Lake, New York.
   After graduation from Fort Plain High School in 1950, Diane attended Green Mountain College in Vermont. She then went on to eventually own her own dress shop in Fort Plain, Montgomery County, New York, named Charm Corner. After selling that business, she opened up her own Card and gift shop called Diane's, also in Fort Plain, Montgomery County, New York. She lived many years in the old Mowrey homestead in Nelliston, Montgomery County, New York prior to moving to an apartment on Canal St. in Fort Plain, Montgomery County, New York. Her husband, Dick, died at a young age, and Diane never remarried.

  Mrs. Diane J. Billington, 70, of Canal Street, Fort Plain, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, followinfg a brief illness.
  Born in Cooperstown on August 11, 1933, she was the daughter of John Herman Mowrey and Adeline Bessie Reamon Mowrey. Mrs. billington was a 1951 graduate of Fort Plain High School and receved an associates degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont. She was a life-long area resident.
  Mrs. Billington was the owner and operator of Diane's Bookstore in Fort Plain for many years and previously was the manager of the Charm Corner in Fort Plain from 1954 until it's closing. She was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, a member of the Valley Choralaires for many years and a charter member of the Fourth Company, First Tryon Militia of the Revolutionary War.
  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Harold "Dick" Billington, whom she married on March 10, 1956, he died on May 28, 1982.
  Survivors include a cousin, Roger D. Grimshaw of Englewood, FL. and many friends and acquaintences.
  A graveside service took place Tuesday May 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Fort Plain Cemetery with the Rev. Carter Adriande officiating.

  Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mowrey, Nelliston, announce the engagement of their daughter Diane J., to Richard Billington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Billington, Wagner Street, Fort Plain. The engagement was announced at a dinner at Nick Stoner Inn, attended by friends and relatives of the couple.
   Miss Mowrey, a graduate of Green Mountain Junior College, Poultney, Vt., a partner in Charm Corner, Inc. woman's apparel store, Fort Pain.
  Mr. Billington recently returned to his home after serving for four years with the U. S. Air Force in Newfoundland and California.

  Carlton Melick, 59, formerly of Nelliston, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon in Elmira, where he resided at 309 Highland Drive. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
  Mr. Melick was born in Nelliston on Feb. 14,1911, the son of Andrew and Libbie Billington Melick, and lived in Nelliston until 1962, when he moved to Elmira.
  He was formerly employed by Cherry-Burrell Inc. at Little Falls, and at the time of his death, was chief tool designer for Hardinge Brothers in Elmira. He was a member of several tool design and engineering organizations and also the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Elmira.
  Survivors include his wife, the former Beverly Gardinier of Nelliston, to whom he was married on Sept. 16, 1939; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald DeVost of Nelliston, and Mrs. Stephan Yedinak, Horseheads; a brother, George Melick, Fort Plain; and five grandchildren.
  Funeral arrangements by the Swartz Funeral Home in Fort Plain are incomplete.

  FORT PLAIN - Beverly Ann Gardinier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gardinier, Nelliston, and Carlton Charles Melick,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Melick, Nelliston. were married this afternoon at the Methodist parsonage, by the Rev. William H. Hammersley, pastor of the church.
  The bride was attended by Mrs. Madeline Pelllgrini, Canajoharie, and the beat man was George Melick, brother of the bridegroom.
  The bride was dressed in navy blue, and the bridesmaid was gowned in plum color.
  Pre-nuptial events have been held for the bride by the employes of the Luxuray Mills. Association. Mrs. Andrew Melick. Mrs. Pearl Gardinier, Mrs. Harry Lampman and Mrs. George Brayman. Nelliston. She was the recipient of many gifts.
  Mr. and Mrs. Melick left for a visit to the World's Fair following the ceremony. They will reside in Nelliston.
