   The announcement was made by Miss Dygert's mother Mrs. Christine Dygert, 1055 1/2 James St., Syracuse. Miss Dygert also is the daughter of the late Glenn Dygert.
  Shepherd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Murray Shepherd, 140 East Main St., Ilion.
  Miss Dygert is a graduate of Bishop Grimes High. School and the State University College at Cortland. She is employed at the Syracuse Savings Bank.
  Her fiance is a graduate of Ilion High School and the State University College at Cortland. He is studying for a master's degree at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tenn.
  The couple plans a 1976 wedding.

  Harold A. Hoffman, 89, of 17 W. Liberty St., St. Johnsville, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Little Falls Hospital after a short illness. He was born May 3, 1913, in Canajoharie, son of the late James Sr. and Mary (Welch) Hoffman.
  Harold was educated in Canajoharie schools and lived most of his life in the St. Johnsville area. His marriage to Margaret Nellis took place on October 24, 1936. They shared a blessed union of marriage for 65 years, until the passing of Mrs. Hoffman on August 8, 2002. Mr. Hoffman worked at Palatine Dyeing Co. until his retirement. Harold was a member of St. John's Reformed Church in St. Johnsville.
  Survivors include two sons, Donald Hoffman and wife Linda of St. Johnsville and Kevin Hoffman of Fort Plain; a daughter, Patricia Hoffman of Lincoln, Neb.; his grandchildren, Todd, Daren, Paul, Donald Jr. and Taylor Hoffman; his step-grandchildren, Thomas and Lynette Oare; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Hailey, Meghan, Michael, Chloe and Grace Hoffman; step-great-grandchildren, Chad and Ryan Morey, McKayla Hayner and Kenidee Oare; a brother, William Hoffman and wife Jean of St. Johnsville; a sister-in-law, Isabelle Hoffman of Fort Plain; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Paul, in 1965; his brothers, Clifford, James, Charles and George Hoffman; and his sisters, Dorothy Abling, Catherine Perry and Elizabeth Hoffman.
  In keeping with Harold's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Reformed Church in St. Johnsville with Reverend James Foster officiating. Interment will take place in St. Johnsville Cemetery later in the spring.
  In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to St. John's Reformed Church or to S.A.V.A.C. Envelopes will be available at the church.

  In the presence only of their arrendants Miss Margaret Nellis, daughter of Mr. and Mis. Roy Nellis of North Divisicn street and Harold Hoffman, son of Mr. a nd Mrs. James Hoffman, Center street, were united in marriage at 6:30 Saturday evening at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. C. Frederick Miller. The bride was attractive in a brown dress with brown accessories, she carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Her bridesmaid was Miss Dora Soulies who wore light green and carried pink roses. Donald Kretser was best man. The bride's gift to her attendant was a purse, while Mr Hioffman gave Mr. Kretser a swank set.
  The bride is an estimable young lady aud a graduate of the local high school she is employed in the office of the plant of the Little Falls Felt Shoe company. Mr. Hoffman is a well known, popular young man who also is employed in the felt shoe plant. The newlyweds will reside until spring at the home of the bride's parents.
  Mrs. Hoffman was guest of honor at pre-nuptual events given bt Mrs. Leon Jeffers, Mrs. Clifford Hoffman and the Delta Alpha class of the Methodist church.

  Paul D. Hoffman, 21, of St. Johnsville, one of six persons reported injured in a 1 car auto accident at 1:15 Sunday morning, July 18, on Sanders Road in the Town of Minden, died at 5:05 yesterday afternoon at Albany Medical Hospital.
  Hoffman had been transferred to the Albany Medical Center Hospital Sunday from  Little Folls Hospital, where four of the six injured persons were hospitalised after the early morning mishap.
  An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today at Albany Medical Center Hospital to determine the cause of death. Dr. D. B. Deitz, an Albany County coroner, had not issued a verdict pending the results of the autopsy.
  Hoffman was admitted to Little Fails Hospital after the accident suffering from a severe concussion, a ruptured bladder, a fractured pelvis, and other internal
injuries, according to a hospital spokesman. He had been listed in "serious" condition at the hospital shortly after the accident.
  According to the Montgomery County sheriff's department, Hoffman was a passenger in a car operated by Garland D. Van Gorder, 21, of St. Johnsville.
  Others listed as passengers in the Van Gorder car were Linda Pedro, 18, of St. Johnsville, fractured leg and lacerations, reported in "good" condition this morning at Little Falls Hospital; Dawn Brundage, 19, of St. Johnsville, fractured leg and lacerations, reported in "good" condition this morning at the hospital; Toni Beekman, 18, of Schuyler, who has since been diecharged from the hospital where she was a patient with scalp lacerations, and Camille Cairns, 17, of St. Johnsville, who was treated at the hospital for lacerations but was not admitted
  Von Gorder was treated at the hospital for scalp lacerations, contusions, and a bruised chest but was not admitted, it was reported.
  According to the sheriffs department, the Van Gorder car was traveling north on Sanders Road, about one and one-half miles south of Route 5-S, when the car veered to the left and went into a ditch, crossed the road again and struck a hay elevator in a field, and continued on, colliding with a well house attached to a barn on the farm of Herbert Johnson. Deputies said the car then came back into the highway, where it came to rest facing the barn.
  The car was towed from the scene.
  Hoffman was born in St. Johnsville on Jan. 20, 1942, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hoffman, and had been a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville.
  He attended St. Johnsville Central School, and was a member of the school's graduating class of 1960.
  A private in the New York National Guard, Hoffman operated his own barber shop in St. Johnsville.
  Hoffman was a member of the St. Johnsville Reformed Church.
  He was a member of the St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge.
  Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister. Miss Patricia Hoffman, and one brother, Donald Hoffman, both of St. Johnsville; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neliis of St. Johnsville.

  ST. JOHNSVILLE-Miss Eleanor Janet Suits, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anson Suits of the New Turnpike, town of St. Johnsville, and Harold Leroy Nellis. son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Nellis of Averill street, this village, were married Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in the home of the Rev. Royal B. Fishbeck, Schenectady. Mr. Fishbeck, now pastor of one of the Methodist churches tn Schenectady, formerly was pastor of the local Methodist church. He performed the ceremony.
  Attendants were Miss Bertha Curtis and Gilbert Hough, both of this place.
  The bride wore a street dress of royal blue velvet with black accessories, and a corsage of American Beauty roses and white pompoms. Miss Curtis wore a powder blue crepe dress, with burgundy accessories and a corsage of peach tea roses with yellow pompoms.
  Personal gifts were presented to the attendants.
  A wedding supper was served at Pelops in Schenectady, and was featured by a wedding cake, gift to the newlyweds of their attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Nellis left for a wedding trip to New York city, and upon their return will reside with the bridegroom's parents, on Averill street.
  Both young people attended the local schools, from which Mrs. Nellis was graduated in the class of 1939. Mr. Nellis is employed by the Palatine Dyeing Company at its plant here.

  ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mrs. Betty J. Fowler, 33, wife of W. Max Fowler, died last night at 7:15 o'clock in her home on Monroe Street Extension after an Illness several months.
  She was born in St. Johnsville, Sept. 27, 1921, the daughter of Roy and Florence Ruller Nellis. She was graduated from St. Johnsville Central School, and was married to Mr. Fowler Feb. 4; 1939.
  Mrs. Fowler was a member of St., John's Reformed Church, where she had taught a Sunday School class. She was also a member of Maquaes Chapter 202. OES, and an active member of the Business Girls Club.
  Surviving, besides her husband, are three children, Judy, Larry and Janet; her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nellis; one sister, Mrs. Harold Hoffman; two brothers, Clifford and Harold Nellis, and several nieces and nephews, all of St. Johnsville.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, in St. John's
Reformed Church. The Rev. Ernest Crounse, pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
  The body will be at the Lull funeral home of St. Johnsville until Saturday morning.

  HUNDREDS PAY FINAL TRIBUTE TO MRS. MAX FOWLER
  Funeral services for Mrs. Max Fowler were held Saturday afternoon in St. John's Reformed Church, with Rev. Ernest Crounse, pastor, officiating. The hundreds of persons gathered there and the large number of floral tributes were indicative of the esteem in which the young woman was held.
  Bearers were Fred McClure, Calvin Francisco, Harlin Devendorf, Jack Countryman, Robert Failing, all of St. Johnsville, and Vincent Norris of Canajoharie.
   Ushers at the church were Harris Dunlap, Michael Galuski, Adam Horn, Nellis Smith, Henry Carter, and Alfred Case.
  Burial was made in St. Johnsville Cemetery, with Chief of Police Raymond Walrath and Officer Robert Perry, assisted by members of the Auxiliary Police, directing traffic.
  Among the groups who visited the Lull Funeral Home prior to the service were members of Maquaes Chapter, Eastern Star, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the members of the Girl Scout troop to which Mrs. Fowler's daughter belongs.
  Contributions to the Damon Runyan Cancer Fund have also been made in her memory.

  Miss Judith Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Fowler, this village, became the bride of E. Stephen Van Dusen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Van Dusen, Palatine Bridge, Saturday, October 5, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Reformed Church.
  Rev. Ernest Crounse, Syracuse, a former pastor of St. John's Reformed Church, performed the double ring ceremony. Baskets of white and gold mums decorated the altar. Miss Janice Davis was soloist and organist Miss Mildred Walrath played traditional wedding
music.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a formal gown of whitee and satin brocade with fitted bodice, scooped neckline and Dior length sleeves, the semibouffant skirt ending in a Chapel train. Her fingertip veil of French illusion WHS caught to a crown of pearls, She carried a Colonial bouquet of white roses with a shower of slephanotis.
  Miss Janet Fowler, Syracuse, sister of the bride was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Patricia Hoffman, Syracuse, the bride's cousin, and Miss Denise Sullivan, Syracuse.
   The attendants' gowns were fashioned identically of Lucerne blue satin, two piece sheaths with scoop necklines and detachable floor length overskirts. They wore matching headpieces of pearl trimmed crowns with veils and carried Colonial bouquets of white pom pons and sweetheart roses.
  Miss Karin Fowler, the bride's sister, was flower girl. Her gown was of gold satin with gold Dior bow and veil. She carried a bouquet of white pom pons and yellow sweetheart roses.
  Anthony Pellegrino, Syracuse, acted as best man. Ushers were Larry Fowler and Paul Hoffman, brother and cousin of the bride, respectively, Billy Fowler, brother of the bride, was ringbearer.
  The bride's mother chose a gown of emerald green chiffon over matching taffeta, with a green velvet hat and a corsage of yellow roses.
  The bridegroom's mother wore a gown of willow green silk with a corsage of pink roses.
  A reception, attended by 200 guests, was held at Nick Stoner Inn, Caroga Lake, where the gold and white color theme was carried out, floral decorations at both the church and the inn, having been taken care of by Mrs. Adam Horn.
  For their wedding trip to points in Canada, the bride chose a brown wool tweed walking suit with matching hat, and a corsage of white roses.
  Guests were present from Syracuse, Fort Plain, Canajoharie, Albany, Herkimer, Johnstown, Utica, and Northville.
  The bride was guest at pre-nuptial showers given by Mrs. David Mora. Syracuse, and by ----- attendants and relatives in St. Johnsvilie. Personal gifts were presented to the attendants at a rehearsal held Friday night and a party given by the bridegroom's parents at Capece's Restaurant, West St. Johnsville.
  The bride was graduated from St. Johnsvilie High School and attended Alfred Technical State University. She had been employed by Comtex, Inc. Syracuse.
  The bridegroom is a graduate of the Canajoharie Central School and Murray State College, Ky. He is a member of the faculty of the Morristown, N. Y. schools. They will make their home in Morristown.

  La Verne (Herky) Kretser, 62, a former St. Johnsville businessman, 2 West Main street, died suddenly Saturday night at his home following an apparent heart attack.
  He was born in St. Johnsville, June 20, 1915, the son of Mrs. Mildred K. Nellis Kretser and the late LaPier Kretser.
  He was married to the former Frances Wright March 30, 1951, in St. Johnsville.
   Mr. Kretser attended St. Johnsville schools and for most of his working life was employed as a supervisor for the former Palatine Dyeing Company, retiring in 1967. He and his wife then purchased the Kyser Hotel which they operated until 1976.
  He entered the U.S. Army March 19, 1941, serving with an artillery division in the China - Burma - Indian Theatre. He was discharged Aug. 13, 1945, with the rank of
sergeant.
  He was an exempt member and past chief of the St. Johnsville Fire Department with 35 years of service.
  A member of St. Johnsville Lodge No. 611, F. and A.M., and a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, Mr. Kretser also was a member of Ziyara Temple AAONMS; Morris J. Edwards Post No. 168, American Legion, and Mohawk Valley Post No. 3275, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid bowler.
  Survivors include his widow and mother; a son, Barry L. Kretser: a daughter, Mrs. Kim M. Cheney, both of St. Johnsville; a brother, Donald Kretser, Fort Plain; a grandson, Tad Cheney, and an uncle, LeRoy (Colonel) Nellis, St. Johnsville; nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the H. C. Smith Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Richard Clark, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Johnsville, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Johnsville Cemetery at a later date.
  Members of the St. Johnsville Fire Department and American Legion will visit the funeral home tonight. A Masonic ritualistic service will be conducted there at 8:30 o'clock tonight.
  Calling hours will be tonight from 7-9 o'clock.

  Florence Manelius, 78, of Gloveraville, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Nathan Littuaer Hospital after a long illness.
  Mrs. Manelius was born in Lassellsville and had been a lifelong area resident.
  She had been employed as a glovemaker at Perrella Glove for several years before retiring and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
  Survivors include three brothers, Kenneth P. Sutton of Johnstown, Curtis A. Sutton of St. Johnsville and Roy .1 Sutton Jr. of Glen; and a sister, DeEtta N. Nellis of St. Johnsville.
  A prayer service was held Thursday, Nov. 7, at John W. Finocan Funeral Home, Gloversville with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Johnstown.
   Calling hours were Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home.
  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

  St. Johnsville — La Verne Milo Kretser, son of Mr. and Mrs Pierre Kretser of this village, and Miss Florence Myrtle Sutton, daughter of Roy Sutton of Lassellsville, were married with the ring ceremony at the Grace Congregational Christian Church paraonage last night.
  The ceremony was performed by the pastor of the church, the Rev. Albert B. Hotchkiss.
  The attending couple was Miss DeEtta Sutton, sister of the bride, and Donald Kretser. brother of the groom. Following the ceremony the newlyweds left for a wedding supper In Cherry Valley. After a moneymoon (sic), they will reside in this village.
  Mr. Kretser attended St. Johnsvllle schools, and is employed in the Ruller & Kretser restaurant, in which his father is a partner.

  The marriage was solemnized last Thursday evening at seven o'clock in a chapel at Durham, N C. of Miss Margaret Mosher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mosher of 36 N. Division street and LaVerne Kretser, son of Mr. and Mrs. LaPier Kretser of 40 Averill street Rev. John I. Wayland, the pastor, officiated.
  The bride wore a gray suit with brown accessories and a corsage of yellow pompoms.
 The attendants were Mrs. Dorothy Radde and Technical Sergeant Ernest Radde. The matron of honor wore a black dress, with rust colored accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.
  The marriage was followed by a wedding supper at the WashingtonDuke hotel in Durham. The newlyweds left shortly after the supper for this village and are spending Sergeant Kretser's furlough here. He is stationed at Camp Butner, N. C,

  Donald L. Kretser, 66, of RD 3, St. Johnsville, died early Saturday morning at Little Falls Hospital, where he had been a patient since Oct. 31.
  Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Gray Funeral Home, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Douglas Cowburn, pastor of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the West St. Johnsville Cemetery.
  Calling hours will be from 7-9 p m Tuesdav at the Gray Funeral Home, and the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
  Mr. Kretser was born May 12, 1917, in St. Johnsville, the son of
LaPier and Mildred Nellis Kretser. He attended St. Johnsville schools and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
  Following his tour of duty in the Army, he was employed by the former Gehring Textile Co., which later became Helmont Mills, and he retired in December 1982.
  He was a member of the Morris J, Edwards American Legion Post, St. Johnsville, and was active in the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief and assistant chief at various times. He also was an active bowler.
  He is survived by his wife, the former Theresa Velgri, whom he married Dec. 14, 1974; two daughters. Mrs. Bernard (Linda) Haak of St. Johnsville and Mrs. James (Beth) Rademakers of Arlington, Texas; a son, Franklin L. Kretser of St. Johnsville.

  The attendants were Miss Margaret Pierce, a friend of the young couple, and Roscoe Soules. brother of the bride.
  The bride wore a wine colored velvet dress with blue accessories and an orchid corsage. Miss Pierce navy blue with matching accessories and a corsage of gardenias.
  The marriage was followed by a wedding dinner at the Brunswick hotel, Fonda. The newlyweds have taken up their residence in a newly furnished home at 14 William street.
  The bride, who was graduated from St. Johnsville high school in the class of 1935, is employed by the Little Falls Felt Shoe Company in its local plant. Mr. Kretser who also attended the local schools, is employed by the Luxor Textiles, Inc.. this village Both are highly esteemed young people.
  The bride's. gift to her bridesmaid a gold bracelet and the groom's gift to his attendant was a cigarette lighter.
  The bride was guest of honor at showers given by her aunt, Mrs. Seward Countryman, by her attendant, Miss Pierce and co-workers, and by the staff of of the lodges of Montgomery county Rebekahs of which the bride is a member. She is also the noble grand of Montgomery Rebekah lodge of this village.

  Mr. Burton H. Yates, 90, of Kasson Drive, Caroga Lake, N.Y., passed away Oct. 2, 2007 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady N.Y., after a short illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1917 in Fultonville, N.Y., the son of Burton and Florence Hubbell Yates. He graduated from Fultonville High School and received a B.S. degree from Hartwick College in 1939 and did his graduate work at Syracuse University, Russell Sage College and SUNY Oneonta and Plattsburg. In 1940, he and his father established Yates and Son General Store in Caroga Lake and in 1941, he began a teaching career in both the Gloversville and Tivoli School systems. He served from 1941-1945 in the U.S. Coast Guard and after service, he resumed his teaching career in the Gloversville and Johnstown school systems. Mr. Yates was also a successful contractor, builder and real estate broker.
   Mr. Yates was a 60-year member of the N. Main St. United Methodist Church, St. Patrick?s Lodge #4 F.&A.M., Cyprus Temple, 57-year member of the Caroga Lake Vol. Fire Dept., the D.A.V. and was a member and former president of the Fulton Co. Retired Teachers Assoc. Among his many interests, Mr. Yates enjoyed traveling, hunting, swimming, boating, ice skating, fly fishing and flying light planes.
   He was first united in marriage to the former Dorothy Smith on Dec. 31, 1941 and she passed away on Dec. 14, 1996. On Feb. 13, 1999, Mr. Yates married the former Melanie Champoux and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Diane Yates of Caroga Lake, N.Y. and Kathy Smith of Gloversville, N.Y. and three sons, Alan Yates of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., David Yates of Caroga Lake, N.Y. and Richard Yates of Orlando, Fla. In addition he is survived by a brother, Bruce Yates, and a sister, Marion Buchner, both of Caroga Lake, N.Y., and 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. at the N. Main St. United Methodist Church, Gloversville, N.Y., with a reception to follow. Cremation took place at Vale Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick?s Lodge #4 F.&A.M. or the Caroga Lake Vol. Fire Dept.


Marriage Notes for Burton H Yates and Dorothy Mae Smith

  FULTONVILLE. Jan. 2.— Miss Dorothy Mae Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer E. S. Smith, 206 Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville, became the bride of Burton Yates, son of Postmaster and Mrs. Burton Yates, Caroga Lake, Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, at the home of her parents.
  In a setting of evergreens and poinsettlas, the ceremony was performed by the Rev. L. Burlin Main, pastor of the North Main Street Methodist Church, Gloversville. "O, Promise Me," "At Dawning," and the traditional wedding marches were played by Miss Esther Gootbrodt, pianist.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a dress of white wool and carried pink roses. Her maid of honor was her sister, Miss Beverly Smith, who wore rose crepe and carried white roses.
  Mr. Yates' best man was his brother, Bruce Yates, Gloversville. Attendants received personal gifts.
  The bride's mother was gowned in green crepe with corsage of Talisman roses, and the bridegroom's mother wore brown crepe and corsage of pink roses.
  Following the ceremony a large reception was held. Later Mr. and Mrs. Yates left on a short wedding trip, and upon their return will reside at Tivoli. N. Y. The bride's going away outfit was a green and brown ensemble.
  The bride is a graduate of Gloversville High School, attended Oneonta Normal, and is a graduate of the Gloversville Business School. She is a member of Phi Delta sorority, and has been employed by the Martin & Naylor Company, Gloversville. Mrs. Yates has been honor guest at several pre-nuptial affairs.
  Mr. Yates is a native of Fultonville, where he spent his entire life until a few years ago. He Is a graduate of Fultonville High School, and Hartwick College, Oneonta, where he received his BS degree; he is a past chaplain of Alpha Kappa Pi fraternity, and a member of the choral choir. He also attended Oneonta Normal. Last year he taught at the Mannhemer Private School at Miami Beach, Fla., and is now science and mathematics teacher at the Tivoli High School.
  Mrs. William Lathers, Sr., Mrs. Clifford Graham and daughter, Miss Dorothy Graham, and Mrs. Evart A. Yates, of this village, attended the wedding and reception.

  Miss Diane J. Yates of New York City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton H. Yates of Canada Lake, became the bride of George E. Comtois of New York City, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Edward Comtois Sr. of Lawrence, Mass. at a ceremony at 3 Saturday afternoon at Sacred Heart Church.
   Rev. Thomas Hiney, assistant pastor, officiated at the double ring ceremony. He was assisted by Rev. William S. Rowe, pastor of North Main Street Methodist Church.
  Baskets of white gladioli and majestic daisies and palms decorated the altar. Family pews were marked with marguerite daisies and pompons. The other pews were marked with satin ribbon.
  The father of the bridegroom played a violin selection, "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother." The mother of the bridegroom sang, "The Bride's Prayer" and Schubert's "Ave Maria." Mrs. Dorothy Sawyer of Gloversville provided organ accompaniment.
  The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father. She was attired in a white imported cotton gown with all-over embroidery designed with Edwardian ruffling at the neckline and sleeves. Her long veil train was attached to a self-fabric cotton embroidered headpiece. She carried a cascade bouquet of bountiful, petal and Paris pink roses and baby breath tied with long streamers.
   Miss Lee Comtois of New York City, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. She wore a Paris pink saki gown over taffeta designed with a bateau neckline, fitted bodice, Empire waist adorned with re-embroidery of miniature white bridal daisies and an A-line skirt with a full back panel. A crown of embroidered daisies and seed pearls held her matching daisy bouffant veil. She carried an informal wicker basket of white and pink daisies trimmed with matching streamers.
  Miss Janet Wood of Willow Grove, Pa., and Miss Bonnie Buchner of Albany, cousin of the bride, were bridesmaids. They were attired in maize and romance blue and saki gowns and headpieces, respectively, and carried baskets of white and matching tinted daisies.
   Miss Kathy Yates of Canada Lake, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. She wore a petal pink gown and headpiece designed like that of the maid of honor and carried a basket of white and pink daisies.
  Paul Canavan of New York City was best man. Ushers were Alan Yates of Ambler, Pa., and David Yates of Canada Lake, both brothers of the bride. Richard Yates of Canada Lake, another brother of the bride, was ringbearer.
  The mother of the bride wore a shell pink coratti linen sheath dress with a matching coat designed with a high-standing collar and three-quarter length sleeves. She wore a matching chiffon Dior cloche, matching accessories, a white marlbou stole and a corsage of phalaenopsis orchids.
  The mother of the bridegroom wore an organza sheath gown in a swirl pattern on a white background designed with a high neckline white mink cuffs. She wore a white straw picture hat trimed with variegated matching chiffon petals, white accessories and a corsage of pink cymbidium orchids.
  A reception for 160 was held at the Catholic War Veterans home with guests attending from New York City, Albany, Rochester, Walkill, Walden, New Hartford, Johnson City, Philadelphia, Pa., and places in New Jersey, New Hampshire, Michigan and Canada.
  For a trip to Bermuda, the bride wore a burnt orange light wool suit with a gold crepe blouse and gold leather accessories. The couple will reside at 14 West 69th Street, New York City, after Sunday.
  Gifts were presented to attendants at a rehersal party, Friday night at the Lakeside Motel, Canada Lake. a post-nuptual reception will be held for the couple Sunday at the Laham Club, Andover, Mass., given by the parents of the bridegroom.
  Bridal showers given for the bride prior to the wedding included on by Mrs. David Hathaway and another by Miss Bonnie Buchner and Miss Sherry Buchner.
  The bride, a graduate of Mayfield Central School, was graduated from the American Theater Wing and American Musical and Drama Academy, both in New York City. She recently completed a 3-month tour in an industrial musical show for Humble Oil Company. She has appeared in musical comedies and made night club appearances.
  The bridegroom is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music, Boston, Mass. He recently completed performances in the musical, "Oklahoma," at the Papermill Playhouse, Millburn, N.J. He is scheduled to appear in the production, "West Side Story," from June through September at Lincoln Center, New York City.

  Miss Kathy Ellen Yates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton H. Yates of Kasson Drive, Canada Lake, was united in marriage to Gregroy J. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Smith of Green Lake, at a candlelight ceremony at 7 Friday night at the Caroga Lake Chapel.
  Rev. Robert L. Jeffers of Johnstown, a minister of the Fortsville United Methodist Church, South Glens Falls, performed the double ring ceremony. Baskets of white and yellow chrysanthemums provided the setting.
  Al Collasessano of Albany played traditional wedding marches on the cordovox and the accompaniment for selections sung by Mr. and Mrs. George Comtois of Boston, Mass., brother in law and sister of the bride. They sang, "Let It Be Me," "A Time for Us" and "If."
  The bride was given in marriage by her father and mother. She wore a gown of white sata peau over taffeta, designed with a high ring collar of venise lace, a fitted bodice with a button trimmed, pintucked bib outlined with lace and long, puffed sleeves with deep lace trimmed cuffs. The A-line skirt, with deep ruffling and lace rows at the hemline, ended in a court train.
  The bride's veil was a fingertip mantilla of illusion, edged with lace. She carried a Colonial bouquet of yellow sweetheart roses, stephanotis, dried baby's breath and white satin streamers.
  Mrs. Ricki Lyn Hollenbeck of Gloversville was the bride's attendant in a maize floral print georgette gown over taffeta fashioned with a portrait neckline adorned with ivory venise lace, fitted bodice, short, puffed sleeves and an A-line skirt with ruffling at the hemline and rows of lace at the back.
  She wore a picture hat trimmed with a sash and streamers in yellow floral georgette matching the gown. She carried a Colonial bouquet of yellow sweetheart roses, dried baby's breath and green satin streamers.
  David White of Mayfield was best man. Ushers were David M. Yates of Caroga Lake, brother of the bride, and Peter Gibe of Gloversville.
  The mother of the bride wore a voile floral print on brown gown over taffeta with a scoop neckline, Empire waist, lantern sleeves and gold braid trim. She wore gold accessories and a corsage of yellow cymbidium orchids.
  The mother of the bridegroom wore a soft, autumn colored print jersey gown with a V neckline. Her accessories were in silver and her corsage of white phalaenopsis orchids.
  After the ceremony a reception for 75 was held at Nick Stoner Inn, Caroga Lake, with music provided by the Christophers. Guests attended from Gloversville, Johnstown, Mayfield, Fultonville, Glen, Ballston Lake, Albany, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Connecticut.
  After a trip to Cape Cod, Mass., the couple will reside at Kasson Drive, Canada Lake. For traveling the bride wore a blue and white checked polyester knit jacket over a blue shell top and white cuffed pants. She wore a corsage of white mums and blue ribbon.
  Attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal party Thursday night at the Unger House, Caroga Lake.
  The bride was honored at a shower Aug. 13 at the home of Mrs. Douglas Smith at Ballston Lake and at another Aug. 19 at the Lakeside Motel, Canada Lake, given by Mrs. Patricia Yates, Mrs. Janet Yates and Mrs. Marion Buchner.
   The bride, a graduate of Johnstown High School, attended Ohio Northern University, Ada, O., and Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
  The bridegroom, a graduate of Mayfield Central School, attended
Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, and FMCC. He is employed as an installer by Sammons Communications Inc.

  Mr. and Mrs. Burton Yates of Caroga Lake have received word that their son, Aviation Cadet Bruce E. Yates, has received his classification as a pilot in the United States Air Corps. Cadet Bruce Yates is now stationed at Nashville, Tenn., but will be transferred to an unannounced pre-fllght school in the near future, Mrs. Bruce Yates of Amsterdam left Wednesday to spend a few days with her husband.

  Bruce Edward Yates, 93, of Gloversville, N.Y., passed away on April 12, 2012, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness.
  Mr. Yates was born on December 15, 1918, in Fultonville, a son of the late Burton Yates and Florence Yates. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Bruce attended Hartwick College in Oneonta and received his degree in education. He then resided in the town of Caroga Lake, where he built and operated the Lakeaire Restaurant and bartended at the former Rainbow Restaurant in Johnstown. Bruce loved the game of golf and could be found on the course most of the day.
  He was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Mezzano of Amsterdam; and his daughter, Sondra (Sunday) Yates Crew.
  Survivors include: his son, Brian Yates of Caroga Lake; his sister, Marrion Buchner; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
  In keeping with Bruce's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
  Cremation was at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown, N.Y.

  Miss Yates attended St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam and State University College at Oswego and received a BS degree in sociology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J., where she is now enrolled in the master's program in library science.
  Miss Yates is the daughter of Bruce E. Yates, Caroga Lake, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Rose Messane, Amsterdam.

  FULTONVILLE, Aug. 31. -A Town of Glen resident owes her life today to the vigilance and efficiency of the life-guards at Vrooman's Beach on West Caroga Lake. Miss Mary Hernigle, 18, was swimming in water about ten feet deep Monday morning when she suffered cramp and sank beneath the surface. Miss Marlon Yates, Red Cross Life Guard, watching the swimmers, noticed the difficulty the young woman was in, and quickly swam to her rescue. It is reported that the Town of Glen girl went down two or three times, but Miss Yates reached her in time and brought her to shallow water, where her brother, Burton Yates, also life guard, assisted in bringing Miss Hernigle to shore. The young swimmer retained consciousness throughout her ordeal, and after a short rest on shore was able to return to her home.
  Miss Hernigle, whose home is a few miles southwest of Fultonville, is a student of Fultonville High School. About a year ago she suffered a fractured leg.
  Miss Marian Yates and Burton Yates are daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Yates, Sr., and are natives of Fultonville, living here all their lives until entering college. They are graduates of Fultonville High School, and Miss Yates is now majoring in Physical Education at Cortland Normal School, while Mr. Yates graduated from Hartwick College last June. For a number of years the Yates family have spent the Summers at Caroga Lake.

  A pretty church wedding look place last night at 9:30 in the North Main Street Methodist church when Miss Marion K Yates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Yates, of Caroga Lake, and Ensign Ronald G. Buchner of US. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs.. William Buchner of Johnstown, were united in marrage The Rev. Paul Hydon performed the ceremony before an altar decorated with wnite gladioli, palms and lighted candles.
  Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Robert Williams, organist, played the following recital: "Festlval Toccato," by Fletcher; "O' Thou Sumblime Sweet Evening Star," by Wagner; "Serenade," by Drilla; "Romance," by Rubinstein; "The Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin by Wagner and "The Wedding March" by Mandelaaohn. During the ceremony, Miss Betty Rose Baker of Canada Lake sang "O Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly."
  The bride was given away in marriage by her father. She wore a white slipper satln dress trimmed with seed pearls and sequins. Her finger tip illumon veil fell from a coronet edged with seed pearls and seaquins. She carried a bouquet of white roses, whith pompoms and babys breath.
  Miss Dorothy Graham of Fultonville, a cousin of the bride, was the maid of honor. She wore a shell pink faille gown with Inserts of rouselene da sole and carried a bouquet of pink dahlias and baby's breath. The bridesmaids, Miss Bernire Haig of Fonda and Miss Joyce Bowles of Gloversville, were gowned in dresses of the same design in skyway blue and damask rose faille. They wore matching net Juliet caps and lace evening mitts. They carried bouquets of verigated dahlias and baby's breath.
  The flower girl was Patricia Shippers of Scotia, a cousin of the bridegroom. She wore a blue bouffent dress with pink velvet trim and a hat to match. She carried a small colonial bouquet of pompoms.
  The best man was Frank Chambers, Jr. of Belleville, N. J. an Ensign in the Navy and roommate and fraternity brother of the bridegroom. The ushers were Burton Yates Jr., William Buchner Jr., Robert Sutton and Private William Lathers.
  The mother of the bride, Mrs. Burton Yates, wore a gown of Sierra blue wtth maroon accessories and a corsage of silver-centered maroon pompoms. The mother of the bridegroom wore a two-toned dress of black raspberry and old rose with black raspberry accessories, She wore a corsage of white gardenias.
  Immediately after the ceremony, a reception was bald in the church parlors. Beverly Smith, Grace Monroe, Malisa Shell, Ann Girard and Beatrice Qullian, personal friends of the bride, did the serving. Miss Roberta Stead of Fort Edward played several violin selections.
  After a short wedding trip, Mrs. Buchner will resume her duties as a member of the faculty of the Fort Edward High school. Ensign Buchner will return to active duty with the fleet.
  The bride's going away outfit consisted of a two-piece beige suit trimmed with wine velvet accessories. She wore a corsage of orchids.
  The bride was graduated from the Cortland State Teachers College. She was the Junior Prom queen in 1940, drum majorette of the Freshman class and an editor of the college year book, vice president of the Alpha Delta Sorority and outstanding in athletics. She excelled in swimming, diving and figure skating.
  The bridegroom was graduated from the St. Lawrence University where ho was a member of the hockey team He was president of the Sigma Alpha Epslton Fraternity. Later he was graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
  Among the out-of-town guests were relatives and frienda from
Johnstown, Fuitonvllle, Fonda, Scotia, Schenectady, Binghamton. Sidney, Saratoga Springs, Caroga Lake, Fort Plain, Fort Edward, Bellesville, N. J. and Dallas Tex.
  The bride was the guest of honor at several showers.

  Miss Cheryl L. Buchner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Buchner of Caroga Lake, was united in marriage to Howard F. Kenney III, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Kenney of Middleton, Mass., at a ceremony at 1 Sunday afternoon at North Main Street United Methodist Church.
  Arrangements of white chrysanthemums and gladioli and candelabra at the altar, and pink-poinsettia plants on each side provided the setting for the double ring ceremony performed by Rev. William S. Rowe. Bernie Kolacki of Broadalbin played selected wedding music.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an Empire gown of ivory peau de soie featuring Chantilly lace edging at the high neckline, outlining the bodice yoke and edging the sleeve cuffs. A chapel train, bordered with a wide row of matching lace, fell from a bow at the back.
  The bride's layered midwaist veil of ivory tulle was caught to a head garland of white stephanotis and ivy. Her bouquet was a Colonial arrangement of pink roses, baby's breath and stephanotis circled with white mums.
  Mrs. Cindy Berberich of Johnstown was matron of honor attired in a gown of ruby red velvet. Worn over taffeta, it was styled with a high, wedding ring collar of ivory venise lace over ivory taffeta, long, tapered sleeves with matching lace over ivory cuffs and a softly controlled skirt. She wore a matching velvet Dior headbow.
  Three other attendants in the wedding wore ruby red velvet gowns similar to that of the honor attendant trimmed with ivory lace over pink taffeta. They wore matching headbows with veiling.
  They were Miss Denise Buchner of Caroga Lake and Dr. Bonnie Baswell of Albany, sisters of the bride, and Miss Marje Du Bert of Rochester.
  The attendants carried Colonial bouquets of white mums and pink carnations with baby's breath.
  Wendy Hoffman of Brunswick, N.J. was flower girl in a two-tone gown, the bodice of pink satin and the skirt of ruby red velvet. She wore a ruby velvet headbow and carried a nosegay bouquet of white mums, pink carnations and baby's breath.
  Anthony Pepirio of Florence, Mass. was best man. Ushers were Thomas Walsh of Concord, Mass., Bruce Buchner of Caroga Lake, brother of the bride, and David Baswell of Albany, brother-in-law of the bride.
  For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Buchner wore an aqua Georgette gown over taffeta fashioned with a portrait neckline, a crystal and silver bead-embroidered bodice, long, tapered sleeves and a controlled skirt. The mother of the bridegroom wore an emerald green gown in satin brocade. Both wore accessories matching their gowns and white orchid corsages.
  After the ceremony a reception for 150 was held at the Holiday Inn with Ralph Gardner and his orchestra providing music. Mrs. Diane Comtois, cousin of the bride from New York City, and her husband, George Comtois, sang solos and duets.
  Guests attending the weddnig were from Rochester, Utica, Fonda, Albany, Canton, Washington, D. C., Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
  After a trip to Bermuda, the couple will reside at 343 Cabot Street, Beverly, Mass. For traveling the bride chose a blue and white check knit pants suit and a white orchid corsage.
  Attendants were presented gifts at a party Saturday night at the Holiday Inn. The bride was honored at a shower earlier this month at the home of her matron of honor.
  The bride, a graduate of Johnstown High School, received a B.A. Degree in French from St. Lawrence University, Canton, and advanced degrees in the subject from the University of Rouen, France. She is employed by R and K Precision Machinery Inc. at Middleton, Mass.
  The bridegroom, a graduate of Masconomet High School, Middleton, received a B.A. degree in education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mass. He is teaching at Boxford, Mass.

  Miss Denise E. Buchner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Buchner of Caroga Lake, was united in marriage to Richard J. Leszczenski of Rochester, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leszczenski of Horseheads, Chemung County, at a ceremony at 2 Sunday afternoon at North Main Street United Methodist Church.
  Altar vases of yellow and white pompons and gladioli provided the setting for the double ring ceremony performed by Rev. William S. Rowe, pastor of the church.
  Bernard Kolacki of Broadalbin, organist, played, "Evergreen," "If" the theme from "Romeo and Juliet," "One Hand, One Heart" and "The Wedding March."
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of white quiana and venise lace fashioned with a Victorian neckline, a see-through yoke, Empire waistline, long, bishop sleeves and a lace-trimmed skirt with a chapel train.
  A quiana and lace headpiece held her matching mantilla. She carried a teardrop bouquet of white carnations, yellow and white sweetheart roses, ivy, baby's breath and white ribbons.
  Miss Veronica Suchy of Johnstown, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of yellow nyesta and a matching floral capelet. The gown was designed with a high-rise neckline, fitted bodice and controlled skirt. Her headpiece was a wreath of yellow and white pompons. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations and pompons accented with baby's breath and white and yellow ribbons.
  Joseph Leszczenski of Horseheads, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Bruce Buchner of Caroga Lake, brother of the bride; Thomas Wood of East Aurora, Erie County; and Jeffery Burger of Elmira, Chemung County. Michael Baswell of Colorado Springs was ringbearer in his aunt's wedding.
  The mother of the bride wore a pink chiffon gown over taffeta, styled with a jeweled bodice, portrait neckline and an attached cape. She wore white accessories and a white orchid corsage.
  The mother of the bridegroom wore a powder blue V necked, rhinestone button-trimmed gown with long, sheer sleeves, accordian pleating and a belted waist. Her accessories were blue and her corsage a white orchid.
   A reception for 120 was held at the Holiday Inn after the ceremony, with music provided by Ralph Gardner and his orchestra. Guests attending were from Gloversville, Johnstown, Rochester, Pittsburgh, Pulaski, Gouverneur, Cuddebeckville, Penn Yan, King's Ferry, Watkins Glen, Elmira, Syracuse, Beaver Dams, Caroga Lake, Amsterdam, Canajoharie, Buffalo, Fort Plain, Horseheads, Middletown, Fultonvllle, Northville, Long Island, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia and Colorado.
  After a trip to Hawaii, the couple will reside at East Squire Dlive, Rochester. The bride wore a turquoise pant suit with a V-necked floral tunic, white accessories and a corsage of two white carnations and a pink sweetheart rose for traveling.
  Attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal party Saturday night at the Lakeside Motel Restaurant, Caroga Lake.
  The bride was honored at four bridal showers. One was given May 11 by members of Sigma Alpha Iota sorority at State University at Potsdam; another May 13 by other friends at the university; a third June 12 at the home of the bridegroom's parents at Horseheads; and the fourth June 19 at the church hall given by the maid of honor and by Mrs. Elizabeth Suchy.
  The bride is a 1977 graduate of State University at Potsdam where she received a B. A. degree in sociology. The bridegroom is a 1976 graduate of the university receiving a degree in computer science. He is employed by the Kodak Company at Rochester.
