  Mrs. Agnes A. Waner. 42, a teacher in the St. Johnsville Central School System until ill health forced her retirement in Septemher, died at her home, St. Johnsville RD 1, Monday morning following an illness of several months.
  Born June 22, 1920, in Akron Ohio, she was the daughter of Clarence and Helen Getman Ash. The family moved to the Fords Bush area of the Town of Minden and she resided there until her marriage to Edward V. Waner.
  She was a graduate of the Fort Plain High School in 1936 and the State Teachers' College at Oneonta in 1939. She taught at the Brookman's Corners and Van Hornesville Schools and was third grade teacher in the St. Johnsville Central School System until three months ago.
  Mrs. Waner was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, and secretary-treasurer of the Montgomery County Teachers Association.
  Surviving are her hushand and one son Donald, St. Johnsville RD 1; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ash. Fort Plain RD 1; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cora Getman, Fort Plain RD 1, and several uncles and aunts.
  The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, Fort Plain, with pastor of St. Paul's Church officiating. Interment was in Fort Plain Cemetery,


Edward V B Waner

  Edward V. Waner, 68, a resident of Klock Road, St Johnsville RD 3, was pronounced dead on arrival at Little Falls Hospital Wednesday afternoon after having been stricken at home.
  He was born in the Town of Canajohane, June 22, 1914. the son of Edward J and Olive Smith Waner and was a lifetime resident
  He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and at one time was employed by the Beech-Nut Packing Company, Canajoharie.
  Mr Waner attended the Lutheran church.
  He was twice married. His first wife was the former Agnes Ash, who died on December 10, 1962. On September 14, 1967, he married Gertrude Shults Hilton.
  He is survived by his widow; a step-daughter, Mrs James (Marie) Conrad, and step-grandson, Thomas C Woods, both of Salem, and several cousins. A son. Donald, pre-deceased his father on Jan 1, 1977.
  Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from the Swartz Funeral Home, Inc., 34 Center St. Fort Plain Burial will be made in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.

  EDWIN R. SHOEMAKER, 76, Spinnaker Drive, Orlando, died Tuesday, April 28, of congestive heart failure. Mr. Shoemaker was a retired head of the Orange County Highway Department. Born in Jordanville, N.Y., he moved to Central Florida in 1978. He was a member of Elks Lodge and American Legion, both of Port Charlotte. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors: daughter, Daryl Frye, France; sons, Mark, Boonville, N.Y., Jon, Eric, Kris, all of Orlando; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Orlando.

Frank H Cureau Jr

  Mr. Frank H. Cureau Jr., 83, of Forge Hill Drive, Ilion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Abraham House, Utica.
  He was born on April 4, 1925, in Tarrytown, son of the late Frank H. and Blanche (Craig) Cureau, and was educated in Tarrytown and Van Hornesville schools. On June 19, 1948, Frank was united in marriage with Helen Roof in Fort Plain; a loving union of 59 years. He enlisted with the United State Navy on November 28, 1944, and was honorably discharged on July 13, 1946, holding the rank of seaman, first class. Before moving to Ilion in 1983, he lived in Westchester County for 32 years.
  Frank was a well known and respected car dealer during his professional life. He was last employed with Dodge City (Carbone Dodge) on Commercial Drive, Utica. For several years, he owned and operated Manor-Lincoln-Mercury in White Plains and also owned J & H Lincoln-Mercury in Mt. Kisco. He was a Rotarian belonging to the Tarrytown Rotary Club for 15 years.
  A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, Frank enjoyed spending time with family friends and his beloved sheepdogs, Buttons and Dudley. Some of his hobbies included working outdoors, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, golfing and following New York sport teams. In 2004, Frank was a proud attendee of the W.W. II Memorial Trip to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed story telling and being surrounded by family and friends, especially during the holidays.
  Survivors include his beloved family; his wife, Helen, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Cureau and Leslie Robbins, of Albany, and Brian and Brenda Cureau, of Berlin, NJ; a brother, Armand W. Cureau, of Clifton Park; a sister, Lynne Carrigan, of Rockport, Mass.; two cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Kyle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, Russell and Lynn Roof, of Ilion, and their daughter, Mary.
  In respecting Frank's wishes there are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside memorial service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, commencing at noon on Thursday, May 15, 2008.

  FORT PLAlN - Miss Helen I. Roof, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Roof of Starkville and Frank H. Cureau, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Cureau, of Tarrytown, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon at 5 in St. Paul's Lutheran church, by the Rev. Herbert H. Mahl.
  Mrs. Virginia Brewer, of Ilion, was matron of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Marguerite Smith of Highland and Miss Lorene Fikes, of Ilion. The best man was Arniond Cureau, brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were Russell
C. Roof, Jr.. brother of the bride and Bernard Fikes of Ilion, a cousin of the bride.
  The bride wore an off-the-shoulder gown of white satin, princess style, with long sleeves coming to a point at the wrist. Insets of lace ended in her long train and her illusion fingertip veil Was caught to her lace bonnet with lillies of the valley. She carried a white orchid on a white prayer book.
  The matron of honor wore an off-the-shoulder gown of yellow marquisette
and a matching bonnet. She carried an arm bouquet of pink roses and yellow carnations. The bridesmaids wore aqua gowns desinged like the matron of honor. They also wore matching hats and carried arm bouquets of pink roses and yellow carnations.
  A reception was held following the ceremony ot Van's hotel, Starkville, after which the couple left on a motor, trip to Illinois. The bride's going-away suit was slipper blue, with blue and white accessories. She wore an orchid corsage.
  The bride and bridegroom are both graduates of Van Hornesville Central school. She also graduated from Albany Business College and has been employed as a stenographer in the department of public welfare, in Herkimer. The bridegroom served two years in the Navy and is employed in Sleepy Hollow cemetery, Tarrytown. They will reside in Tarrytown.

  Miss Helene Anne Bouck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bouck of Unadilla Forks, and Russell Marlin Nevins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Nevins, Fort Plain, were married Saturday evening, June 28, at 7:30 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie.
   Rev. Harold J. Hartar, pastor of the church, performed the double ring ceremony. The couple was attended by Mr, and Mrs. Charles Strong, Sauquoit, sister and brother-in-law of the bridegroom.
  Following the ceremony, a reception was held for members of the immediate family at the Manor, East Creek.
  The bride la a recent graduate of West Winfield Central school, The bridegroom wai a 1954 graduate of Van Hornesville Central school and is associated with his parents on the Nevins farms, where the couple will reside.
