  Alice Francis Doane, 80 of Centennial Appartments, Watertown, passes march 29, 2011 at the Samaritan Medical Center. A funeral service will be at 11 am Fri., April 1st at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Ceemetery in Sackets Harbor. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 am until 11 am at the funeral home.
   Born April 2, 1930, daughter of Charles and Grace Willard Bartholomew, she attended Watertown Catholic Schools. She would have celebrated her 81st birthday on April 2, 1911. She married Donald Doane on May 1971 in the Town of Boonville. Donald a WWII veteran retired from NY Air Brake after many years of dedicated service. He currently resides at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown.
  Besides her husband she is survived by a brother, Joseph Bartholowmew, Adams and a sister, Anita Gardner, Watertown. Three sons and their wives, Stephen and Beth Cross, Henderson, Daniel and Cassandra Cross, Watertown, Larry and Bert Cross, Cassville, Missouri; a daughter Kathryn Matteson, Watertown; eight grandshildren, Michelle (Troy) Nickles, Jennifer (David) Hodge, Levi (Jessica) Cross, Austin Cross, Sarah (Aaron) Coffin, Jeremy (Bryana) Cross, Jonathon Cross and Jesse Cross; nine great grandchildren, Juston and Jacob Wise, Dillan and Jenna Nickles, Daniel and Katelyn Hodge, Emmalee and Lily Coffin and Jody Cross; many nieces, nephews and adopted family including Marcy Bizub and Dick Madill. She was predecease by her parents, a sister Betty O'Neal and brothers Bobby and Raymond Bartholowmew.
  Alice was a homemaker like no other. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, bird watching and watching and spending time with her family.

Gary H Borland

 - Born in Evans Mills, NY on Nov 15, 1931, he was the son of John M and Florence Howard Borland. He married Dorothy Carris in 1951. The marriage ended in divorce. He married Vera Maloney Kitto on Nov 11, 1973 in Brownsville, where the couple made their home. Mr Borland was employed as a machinist by the New York Air Brake Co for twenty years, retiring in 1974. Survivors include his wife Vera, two sons, Michael D and Gary J, Evans Mills, four daughters, Mrs Richard (Cindy) Parker, Mrs Michael (Debbie) Boyanski, Amber Borland and Vickie Borland, His mother Florence Borland and a brother Ward J, both of Norfolk (James Borland)

  Alma 'Jess' Martell, 85, formerly of Watertown, passed away February 1 in Largo, Florida.
  She was born October 19, 1924 in Watertown, the daughter of Raymond and Kathleen Baxter Wager. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1942. She married Joseph Martell on May 1, 1946 at Holy Family Church, Watertown. He died October 9, 1964.
  Mrs. Martell worked in Watertown as a telecommunications operator and secretary for NY Telephone Company and was also employed with the Board of Education, Automobile Bureau, Employment Office, Electrical Union, J.P. Lewis Paper Co. and Post Engineers at Fort Drum. She retired from Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida. After retiring, Jess enjoyed working part time in the pro shops at Willowbrook Golf Club and Pine Crest Country Club in Florida.
  An avid golfer, Jess played in numerous tournaments and won several trophies. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading and watching golf. She was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
  Mrs. Martell is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vicki Martell, Wellesley Island, a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Lewis Fults, Evans Mills; seven grandchildren, Michael (Mika) Durhan, AL, MacKenzie Dickinson, Watertown, Megan Rodriquez, TX, Morgan Martell, TX, Joseph Fults, Evans Mills, Jana Fults Evans Mills and Lindsey Fults, NC; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Elger, Watertown, Louise Kaufman, TX, a brother, Robert, FL; a sister-in-law, Edna Wager; several nieces and nephews.
  Besides her husband, Joseph, a sister, Eleanor Howland and a brother, Frank Wager, predeceased her.
  A summer memorial service will be held in July at Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Local arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.
