Paul, Watertown, Route 3, this afternoon at 2. in Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Allan T. Dodge, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
  The bride will be given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Marvin R. Pierce, and will wear a gown of blue nylon over satin with a short veil. She will carry a colonial bouquet of pink and white pompons.
  Miss Kristin Crego will be maid of honor and Miss Dara Crego will be bridesmaid. Jack Bassette, Brownville, will be; best man.
  A reception will be held at 916 Franklin St. For their trip to Maine and Vermont, the bride will wear a beige dress with brown accessories. The couple will live on St. Lawrence Ave., Brownville.
  This is the second marriage for the bride. Her first marriage ended in divorce. She is a 1958 graduate of Watertown High School and is an IBM key punch operator employed by the Agricultural Insurance Co.
  Mr. Paul is a 1955 graduate of Brownville-Glen Park High School and operates a refrigeration, plumbing and heating business in Brownville. Both the bride and bridegroom are active in scouting.

  PHILADELPHIA, N.Y. — Raymond C. Hewitt, 87, of Irish Avenue, died Tuesday Nov. 27, at Carthage Area Hospital where he had been a patient since Nov. 19.
  Born July 20, 1920, in Philadelphia, son of Harold C. and Ethel Soules Hewitt, he graduated from Philadelphia High School as valedictorian of his class in 1939.
  He married Naomi J. Duff on May 30, 1941. She was a retail clerk at Empsall’s Department Store, Watertown, and deputy village clerk in Philadelphia. She died Nov. 4, 2004.
  Mr. Hewitt was employed with the town of Philadelphia and later with North Counties Supply Corp., Inc., Philadelphia, retiring in 1982.
  He was a member of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church and an exempt member of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
   He enjoyed gardening, watching baseball and reading, especially western novels.
  Surviving are a son and his wife, James R. and Theresa, Philadelphia; a daughter and her husband, Brenda R. and Donald Cooke Jr., Clear Lake, Theresa; a sister, Rosemary Augustine, Watertown; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
  There will be no funeral or calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

She is assistant night supervisor in the clinical pathology laboratory at Upstate Medical Center.
  Mr. Pahler is a 1969 graduate of Potsdam Central School, was graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Plattsburgh State University College after spending his junior year at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, and is employed at Pahler Packing Corp., Potsdam. He plans to enter the graduate school of business administration at Temple University, Pa., this fall.

  THERESA - Clifton E. Frederick. 61, funeral director at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home in Theresa, died Friday at the Crouse-lrving Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, where he had been a patient since July 14. The funeral will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Theresa with Rev. Henry Myerderks, pastor, and Rev. Albert Cameron II. pastor of the Evans Mills and Philadelphia United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.
  Calling is at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
  He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; a son, Jeffery; three brothers, a twin, Clinton M., Victor, and Ross, all of Theresa; a sister Mrs. Vivian Bickford, Watertown, and several nieces.
  Born September 23, 1914 in Watertown, he was the son of Adalbert and Lottie Myers Frederick. He attended schools in Sraithsville, Oswego and was graduated from Theresa High School in 1934. He then attended Simmons School of Embalming in Syracuse and graduated in 1940. His twin brother Clinton also attended the school. Clifton and his brother, Clinton, bought the Giltz Funeral Home in Theresa and together went into business as the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home. Since 1940, Mr. Fredericks and his brother operated the Hyde Lake Truck Gardens.
  He married the former Elizabeth Haller, of LaFargeville on April 18, 1953 at the LaFargeville Methodist Church.
  He was a member of the Theresa Lodge, 174 F&AM for 38 years, the Harrisville Rod and Gun Club, the Jefferson and Lewis County Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association

  Phyllis G. Cerow, 74, of Clayton, N.Y., died Jan. 4, 2004, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach.
   She was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Pamelia, N.Y., and was a winter resident of Vero Beach for many years.
   She worked as a loan officer at Marine Midland Bank, Watertown, N.Y., for 21 years and she was also a bookkeeper for the Town of Clayton for 18 years. She was a member of the Clayton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Colon-Couch Post No. 821 and the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton.
   Survivors are her husband, Gordon; two sons, Stephen Ormsby and Todd Cerow, both of Clayton; three stepsons, Brian Cerow, of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Albert Cerow and Bruce Cerow, both of Clayton; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Cwynar, of Bartlett, Ill., and Sylvia Hungerford, of Webster, N.Y.; one brother, Stewart Getman, of Sand Springs, Okla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 357, Watertown, N.Y. 13601.
   SERVICES: Spring burial will be in Clayton Cemetery, Clayton.

Gordon D Cerow Jr.

  A memorial service for Gordon D. Cerow Jr., 86, Merrick Street, longtime supervisor of the town of Clayton and mayor of the village of Clayton, will be at a later date in Gordon D. Cerow Jr. Recreation Park.
  He died Sunday afternoon February 1, 2009 at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.
  There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service.
  Born Jan. 14, 1923, in Clayton, son of Gordon D. Sr. and Harriett Kenyon Cerow, he graduated in 1940 as salutatorian of Clayton High School, where he played cornet and filled in for the retired band director to play at his graduation. He also graduated from Syracuse University, where he studied business administration and accounting, attended Penn State University and Northwestern University and graduated in 1971 from Jefferson Community College, Watertown.
  He married Joan A. Burtch on April 7, 1947, at St. Cyril's Church rectory, Alexandria Bay. The marriage ended in divorce.
  He married Phyllis Getman on Aug. 10, 1974, at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Richmond N. Hutchins officiating. She died Jan. 4, 2004.
  Mr. Cerow enlisted in the Navy Reserve on Nov. 25, 1942, and was called to active duty on July 1, 1943, at the end of his third year at Syracuse University. He was commissioned an ensign on May 10, 1944, placing in the top 15 of his class of more than 1,400 midshipmen. He went to the Pacific theater of operations in the summer of 1944 and was assigned to the USS McCoy Reynolds, a destroyer escort, as radar officer. He was promoted to lieutenant junior grade and served as communications officer, executive officer and finally commanding officer. He was promoted to lieutenant. His ship took part in the invasions of Tarawa and Iwo Jima, and the McCoy Reynolds was credited with sinking two Japanese submarines. He was discharged from military service on June 3, 1946, and received several service ribbons and five battle stars.
  He was a cost accountant for Frink Sno-Plow Inc. from 1946 to 1951. He was employed by Cerow's Pioneer Market from 1951 to 1960. He purchased the former R.P. Grant Insurance Agency on Jan. 1, 1962, and created the Cerow Agency Inc.
  Mr. Cerow's political career began Aug. 30, 1954, when he was appointed to the village Board of Trustees to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of James Fitzgerald. He was elected a trustee in March 1955 and served two years and seven months.
  He was elected Clayton's mayor in March 1957 and served for four terms, until March 31, 1965. His accomplishments include significant improvements to the municipal building, an outdoor skating rink, street lighting, Riverside Drive park and overlook, acquisition of the Department of Public Works building, razing of the old pump station and fire hall, and the Mary Street and Riverside Drive dock projects.
  He was elected Clayton town supervisor in November 1959 and took office Jan. 1, 1960. He held the offices of town supervisor and Clayton mayor concurrently for more than five years. His foremost achievement as town supervisor was realization of the Recreation Park. Four major grants were awarded during the course of the project. In 1976, it was renamed Gordon D. Cerow Jr. Recreation Park.
  Mr. Cerow served as chairman of the county Board of Supervisors in 1970 and 1971. He listed creation of the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency by the state Legislature as a major accomplishment of his time as board chairman. He was a member of the agency from its inception for 21 years and was its chairman for several years.
  He was instrumental in locating Ridgeline Industries in Clayton and other projects in the community and village. He also was chairman of the Board of Supervisors' Ways and Means committee for several years and served as chairman and of the board's Highway Committee.
  He was active in the Republican Party for many years, serving as Clayton town chairman and a committeeman. He also was assistant treasurer of the executive committee of the county GOP committee.
  Mr. Cerow served as chairman of the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and was a member of the authority's board for many years. He was a member of the Jefferson County Fire Advisory board and Fish and Wildlife Management board and was a sector supervisor for the Jefferson County Civil Defense program.
  He was a past commander of Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821 and held offices in the Jefferson County and district American Legion organizations. He was a member of Elks Lodge 496, North Side Improvement League and Jefferson County Historical Society, all in Watertown, and several Masonic and Shrine organizations, and was president of the local chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Syracuse University, and Syracuse University Alumni Association.
  He also was a member of the Clayton service unit of the Salvation Army, Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, Clayton Lions Club, Clayton Cemetery Association, Clayton Housing Authority and Hawn Memorial Library Building Committee.
  Clayton named him its Citizen of the Year for 1991.
  He enjoyed music, appearing in local bands at the piano for 50 years, and organized a band in Vero Beach, Fla., where he spent six months after retirement. He also enjoyed Hummel, stamp and coin collecting.
  Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia J. and Donald Cwynar, Carpentersville, Ill., and Sylvia H. and James A. Hungerford, Webster; four sons and their wives, Brian G. and Beverly, Penn Yan, and Bruce B. and Michelle, Albert L. "Audie" and Laura L. and Todd K. and Lyn J., all of Clayton; a stepson, Stephen R. Ormsby Sr., Clayton; a brother, Retired Lt. Col. Donald A., Framingham, Mass.; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
