  LAFARGEVILLE - Carl W. Getman, 98, formerly of Clayton Street, died Thursday afternoon in River Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Alexandria Bay, where he had been a resident since 1998.
   Mr. Getman was a dairy farmer until 1963, when he began working for the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, Alexandria Bay.
   He was a member of the Methodist faith, Omar Grange and LaFargeville Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and trimming and pruning trees.
   Born Oct. 26, 1906, in the town of Alexandria, son of Joseph and Dora Bretsch Getman, he attended Tanners Corners schoolhouse and graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce.
   He married Hilda Mae Wagoner on Nov. 1, 1927, at the home of her parents, Albert C. and Mabel Wagoner, Clayton, with the Rev. B.G. Miller officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Getman spent many winters in the St. Petersburg, Fla., area. Mrs. Getman, a retired nurse's aide, died Nov. 5, 1999.
   Surviving are a son and two daughters-in-law, Gaylord C. and Betty, Harrisburg, Pa., and Helen D., LaFargeville, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   A son, Donald G., died May 7, 2003. Two sisters, Ferne Halloway and Doris Stanton, and three brothers, Stanley, Paul and Frank, also died before him.
   The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Neevel, pastor of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, Alexandria Bay, officiating. Burial will be in Omar Cemetery.
   There will be no calling hours.
   Donations may be made to River Hospital, Alexandria Bay.

  Retired Nurse's Aide
  LAFARGEVILLE -- Hilda Mae Getman, 91, formerly of Clayton Street, died Friday at the Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan Extended Care Facility, Alexandria Bay where she had been a resident since November 1998.
  Mrs. Getman was a nurse's aide at the E. J. Noble Hospital.
Born June 21, 1908, in the town of Alexandria, daughter of Albert C. and Mabel Stevens Wagoner, she attended area schools.
  She married Carl W. Getman on Nov. 1, 1927, at her home in Clayton, with the Rev. B. G. Miller officiating. The couple had celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary Monday at the day care center of the Extended Care Facility, where Mr. Getman is also a resident, by greeting friends and family. wedding anniversary announcement was published in Saturday's Times.)
  After their marriage the couple lived on the farm at Tanner's Corners that was settled by Mr. Getman's grandfather, Lorenze Bretsch, in 1837. They operated the farm for 35 years before moving to Clayton Street.
  Mrs. Getman was a past member of the Thouisand Island Grange, Omar, and the Thousand Island Home Bureau, and was a member of senior citizens clubs in LaFargeville and Clayton.
  Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Douglas G., LaFargeville, and Gaylord C., Harrisburg, Pa.; a sister, Eldred Bell, Watertown; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Omar Cemetery with the Rev. Thana Kibbe, pastor of the LaFargeville Methodist Church, officiating.
  There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

  ALEXANDRIA BAY -- Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Getman, residents of Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan extended care facility, formerly of LaFargeville, observed their 72nd wedding anniversary Nov. 1.
  They celebrated by greeting friends Monday in the day care center at the hospital.
  Mr. Getman, son of the late Joseph and Dora Getman, was married to Hilda M. Wagoner, daughter of the late Albert and Mable Wagoner, Nov. 1, 1927, at the bride's home in Clayton with the Rev. B. G. Miller officiating.
  Honor attendants were Eldred Wagoner Bell, sister of the bride, and Darrell McKinley.
  The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Tanner's Corners until moving to Clayton Street, LaFargeville, in 1963, upon Mr. Getman's retirement from farming. He was later employed by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority.
  Mrs. Getman was a homemaker and a nurse's aide at E. J. Noble Hospital.
  The couple are past members of the Thousand Islands Grange, Omar, and the Thousand Islands Home Bureau, and are members of the senior citizens clubs in LaFargeville and Clayton.
  They have two sons, Douglas, LaFargeville, and Gaylord, Harrisburg, Pa.; a grandson, two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

   The couple was attended by Miss Edith Christian and Miss Elen Sypher. Mrs. Getman was born at Cape Vincent, a daughter of Lawrence J. and Agnes Lago Vreatt. She has been employed as a waitress at the city restaurants.
  Mr. Getman is a farmer. He was born at Lafargeville, a son of Joseph S. and Dora F. Bretsch Getman. The couple are residing at Lafargeville.

  Frank Getman and Cecilia Vreatt were married on June 24, 1935, in the Methodist Church, Carthage, by Rev. J. A. Sypher, pastor. Attending the couple were Ellen Sypher and Edith Christian.

  CLAYTON -- Paul B. Getman, 71, of 516 Webb St., died Thursday afternoon at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he was admitted Wednesday.
  There will be no funeral or calling hours. A private committal service will be held at Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville, with Rev. Dale Austin, pastor of Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.
   Arrangements are with the T. R. Jetty Funeral Home.
   Donations may be made in his name to the LaFargeville or Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Funds.
   He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Joel, Tanners Corners, LaFargeville; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Ella Dawn) Doherty, West Babylon, L. I.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elroy (Fern) Holloway and Mrs. Ellis (Doris) Stanton, both of LaFargeville; two brothers, Stanley, Florida and Carl, Florida and LaFargeville, and nieces and nephews. A brother, Frank, died before him.
  Born at Tanners Corners, Town of Alexandria, Jan. 6, 1914, a son of Joseph and Dora Bretsch Getman, he married Lois VanAlstyne June 7, 1935 at Sackets Harbor.
  Mr. Getman operated a farm at Tanners Corners until retiring in 1965 when he became employed by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, retiring in 1973.
   The couple moved to Clayton after retiring from farming.
   A past noble grand of LaFargeville Odd Fellows, he was a member of the LaFargeville United Methodist Church, a fire policeman in the LaFargeville Fire Department and a former member of the Omar Grange.

  CLAYTON — Lois V. Getman, 96, formerly of Clayton, died Tuesday at Mercy of Northern New York, Watertown, where she had been a resident since 2006.
  Mrs. Getman assisted her husband in the operation of a dairy farm in LaFargeville until moving to Clayton in 1965.
  Born Jan. 19, 1913, in LaFargeville, daughter of Stewart and Ella Haller VanAlstyne, she attended local schools. She married Paul B. Getman on June 7, 1935, at Sackets Harbor. He died May 9, 1985.
  She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, Thousand Islands Grange, Omar, and Thousand Islands Home Bureau.
  Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Ella Dawn and Arthur Doherty, Fishers Landing; a son and his wife, Joel and Deanna, LaFargeville; a sister, Sharon Connell, Cape Vincent; a brother, Eugene VanAlstyne, LaFargeville, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
  Three sisters, Doris Matthews, Margaret Daily and Pauline Walti, died before her.
  A private funeral will be at a later date. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville.
Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home.
