Larry Dennis Hosmer

  Larry D. Hosmer passed away at his residence Monday, Feb. 22, 2021. He was 74 years old.
  Born Dec. 26, 1946, in Carthage, a son of Cora Hosmer, he was educated locally. He worked at the Watertown Daily Times, until his retirement, where he held several different jobs over the years.
  Larry enjoyed watching movies, listening to old radio shows, and was a New York Yankees fanatic.
  A marriage to Teresa Getman ended in divorce. The couple, however, remained friends over the years.
  Larry is survived by his children, Laura Brasie. Watertown, Larry and Laurie Hosmer of Watertown, Douglas Hosmer of Michigan; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
  Larry was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Hosier-Smith, and a sibling, Lanny Hosmer.
  Burial in Black River Cemetery.

   CARTHAGE — Douglas T. Getman, Sr., 61, formerly of Carthage, died early Monday morning, September 20, 2010 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
  Born in Carthage on October 25, 1948, the son of George W. and Mabel Britton Getman, he attended local schools. He was employed by Climax Manufacturing for 20 years and then went into construction where he worked on building bridges.
  He married Velma Carter on June 29, 1968 and had four children. The marriage ended in divorce. He then married Althea Hadley on August 11, 2004. He was an avid comic book collector and enjoyed listening to the Grateful Dead.
  Mr. Getman is survived by his wife, Althea, at home, his mother, Mabel Durham and his children, John Getman, Theresa, NY, Amy Hubbard, Cindy Hubbard and Douglas T. Getman, Jr., all of Carthage. Also surviving is his sister, Theresa Hosmer of Watertown, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
  A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, on Friday, September 24th at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Black River Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, September 23, from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Following the burial, a gathering will be held at Cindy Hubbard's residence, 35110 NYS Route 26, Carthage

  George E. Getman, Sr of Ogdensburg, NY died suddenly on January 7, 2021 at the age of 62.
  He was born on April 3, 1958 to Gladys (Britton) and William Getman in Watertown, NY where he spent the majority of his life.
  He attended Watertown City Schools and ultimately joined the Navy in the mid-late 1970’s.
  George was employed at Fort Drum, NY in the Messing Facility for some time during the late 1970’s/early 1980’s and had some other general labor jobs during his lifetime.
  On July 8, 1978 he married his wife Sharon (Mathous). They divorced since, but had three children: Misty (Stillborn-1979), George (1980), and Jennifer (1986), In addition to being survived by George and his wife Brandi (Scee), Jennifer and companion (Jose Santiago), (5)Grandchildren: Hunter(17), Hayden(15), Cody(12), Gabriel(7), and Catalina(4). He is also survived by two sisters Faith Getman(Watertown), Ruth Ormiston (husband) Lenny(Carthage), and one brother, Ernest Getman(Donna) (Buffalo), several cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.
  He was predeceased by both of his parents and an older brother, William Getman, who passed away in 1994.
  George was well liked by most if not all he interacted with. He was funny, caring, and oftentimes the life of the party. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, and watching sports; Specifically, The Los Angeles/ St Louis Rams and the New York Yankees, of which he still talked to his son regularly about these seasons and in the last few weeks. George was someone who was able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone and would call to just chat for two minutes about day to day things. People who have met him typically would not forget his presence. We love you, Dad!

  WIFE OF JAY P. ORMSBY IS DEAD
  Mrs. Edith Mabel Allen Ormsby, 52, Plattsburgh, Once Lived at Dexter.
  Dexter, March 6. -- Ormsby, 52, wife of Jay P. Ormsby, 68B Sailly avenue, Plattsburgh, formerly of Dexter, died at 6 p.m. yesterday in Physician's hospital, Plattsburgh, where she had been a patient since Dec. 14. She had been in failing health a year.
   The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Johnson funeral home with Rev. George Grose, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Plattsburgh, officiating. Burial will be in Dexter cemetery.
   Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
   Surviving besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Frank P. (Jean H.) Silkman, Endicott; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Carrie) Clemons, and Mrs. Cecil (Mildred) Donaldson; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Ormsby was born March 28, 1912, in the town of Orleans, a duaghter of Harry G. and Edna Mae Getman Allen. The famliy moved to Perch River when she was young and she attended Dexter High School. She was married July 21, 1931, to Jay Ormsby of Clayton at the home of her parents at Gunns Corners, by Rev. Frederick K. Vogt, then pastor of Concordia Lutheran church, Watertown.
   After their marriage, they lived in Dexter, where Mr. Ormsby was assistant mill manager of the old Dexter Sulphite Pulp and Paper company when he left in 1951. They spent nearly two years in St. John's, New Brunswick, where Mr. Ormsby worked for K. C. Irving, then owner of the Dexter Sulphite mill, who has extensive holdings in Canada. Mr. Ormsby was mill manager of Irving Pulp & Paper, Ltd., of St. John's.
  From 1953 to 1956, Mr. and Mrs. Ormsby lived in Northampton, Mass., while Mr. Ormsby was manager at Doeskin Paper Products, Inc. at Mt. Tom, Mass. They then moved to Platsburgh, where he is employed by the Georgia Pacific company. Mrs. Ormsby worked as a sales clerk in Merkel's department store in Plattsburgh for five years. She was a member of the Dexter Presbyterian church.

  Jay P. Ormsby Funeral Scheduled
  The funeral for Jay P. Ormsby, 84, of 220 TenEyck St., who died Friday morning at the House of the Good Samaritan, will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, with the Rev. Steven Jelensperger, pastor of the Dexter Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.
   Calling hours at the funeral home will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The Dexter Masonic Lodge will hold a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Dexter Presbyterian Furnace Fund.
   He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Jean O.) Silkman, Marlboro, Mass.; two grandchildren; one brother, Perry Ormsby, Michigan; one sister, Flora Harksen, Florida; nieces, nephews,. Two brothers died before him.
  Mr. Ormsby was born on March 1, 1908 in Clayton, a son of Perle and Nellie Dodge Ormsby. He graduated from Clayton High School.
   He married Edith Mabel Allen on July 21, 1931, at the Gunns Corners home of her parents, Harry G. and Edna Mae Getman Allen, by the Rev. Frederick K. Vogt, then pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, Watertown. Mrs. Ormsby died March 5, 1965, in Plattsburgh at the age of 52.
   The couple had first lived in Dexter after their marriage where Mr. Ormsby was steam plant manager of the Dexter Sulphite Pulp and Paper Mill. The plant produced steam for the mill and heat for some of the surrounding houses.
   After the mill closed in 1951, the couple moved to St. John's, New Brunswick, Canada, where Mr. Ormsby worked for K. C. Irving, then owner of the Dexter Sulphite Mill, who had extensive holdings in Canada. Mr. Ormsby was manager of Irving Pulp & Paper, Lts., St. John's.
  From 1953 to 1956, Mr. Ormsby was manager of Doeskin Paper Products, Inc., Mt. Tom, Mass. The couple lived in Northampton, Mass., when he worked at Doeskin.
  In 1956, the couple moved to Plattsburgh where Mr. Ormsby worked for Georgia Pacific Paper Co. He retired in 1972 and returned to Dexter.
   He was a member of the Dexter Masons, the Shriners, the Dexter Presbyterian Church and was a Shriner.

  LaFargeville -- E. Ferne Getman Holloway, 97, formerly of LaFargeville, died Monday at Oak Meadow Nursing Center, Alexandria, VA, where she had been a resident since 1994.
  Mrs. Holloway was a retired teacher. She taught elementary school for 30 years, beginning in a one-room school at Tanners Corners. She also taught in a two-room school at Plessis and at schools at Massena and Sackets Harbor. For seven years, she conducted kindergarten activities at her home before LaFargeville Central School was equipped with a kindergarten program. She retired from LaFargeville Central in 1967.
  As a young woman, Mrs. Holloway worked for three summers at a Star Lake resort as a beautician, a job she continued to do at her home when her daughters were young.
  She was involved with Girl Scouting for 15 years and was active for many years in LaFargeville Evening Study Club, Home Bureau and Homemakers. She was a member of LaFargeville United Methodist Church.
  Born 5 April 1902, at Orleans, daughter of Joseph and Dora Bretsch Getman, she graduated from LaFargeville High School in 1922, Clayton teachers training class in 1925, and Potsdam Normal School in 1929.
  She married Elroy Dewey Holloway of Clayton on 23 Dec 1936, at the First Methodist Church parsonage with the Rev. Maynard P. Beach, then pastor, officiating. The couple lived at LaFargeville until 1987, when they moved to Falls Church, VA, to live with their daughter, Nancy Enright. Mr. Holloway died 25 Mar 1993.
  Surviving besides Mr. Enright, now of Sterling, VA, are another daughter Mrs. Hugh (Faith) Weldon, Webster; a brother, Carl Getman, Alexandria Bay; four grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
  Three brothers, Frank, Paul and Stanley Getman, and a sister, Doris Getman Stanton, died before her.
  The body will be cremated in Virginia. Spring burial will be in Omar Cemetery.
  Arrangements were with Murphy Falls Church Funeral Home, Falls Church. Local arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

  SANDY CREEK - Mr. ad Mrs. Stanley H. Getman, Blind Creek Cove, Sandy Creek will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 1 at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m.
   Stanley Getman, son of Joseph and Dora Getman, and Pauline Bass daughter of Samuel and Nellie Bass were married at a garden wedding at the Bass home Aug. 1, 1925 with the late Rev. T. T. Davies officiating. They were attended by Carl Getman, Alice Bass Clark, Viola Bass Abel, Muriel Bass Heredia and Lou Clark Calhoun.
  The couple has three children: Mrs. Bruce (Alice) Beason, Theresa; Harold Getman, LaFargeville, and Jay, deceased in 1942. They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
  After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Getman lived on a large dairy farm at Tanners
Corners, Jefferson County, for 27 years until their son, Harold, took over operation. Mr. and Mrs. Getman moved to Clayton Street in LaFargeville in 1951 while Mr. Getman was employed as head custodian at the LaFargeville Central School. Since retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Getman are at home seven months of the year in St. Petersburg, Fla., and five months at Lilac Lodge in Blind Creek Cove, Sandy Creek.

LaFargeville--Graveside services for Doris Stanton, 84, Tanners Corners Rd., who died Sept. 23 1988 in her home, will be held at 11 Saturday at Omar Cemetery, with Rev. David Simmons, pastor of Omar Methodist Church officiating.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

Donations may be made to the Omar Church, or to the Lafargeville Fire Department.

Surviving are a son, Ivan, Lafargeville; two brothers, Stanley Getman, St. Petersburg, Fl. and Carl Getman, Lafargeville; a sister, Mrs. Ferne Holloway, Falls Church, Va., and three grandchildren, Leo, Leslie and Paula. A son, Ralph and two brothers, Frank and Paul, died before her. Her husband, Ellis Stanton, died Dec 21 1986.

Born June 11 1904 in the town of Orleans, one of six children of Joseph and Dora Bretsch Getman, she attended Lafargeville Union School and was trained to be a nurse. She was married to Ellis Stanton June 11 1926, in North Hero, Vt. The couple purchased the old Tanner dairy farm, Tanners Corners, operating it until 1963, when a son, Ivan, took over its operation. The couple retired in a new house on the old homestead.

She was employed for a time as a nurses aide at Edward John Noble Hospital at Alexandria Bay. She was a member of Omar Church, a 50-year member of Thousand Island Grange and a former member of the Thousands Islands Home Bureau and also of its Home Demonstration Unit.

  Lafargeville. June 14— Friends have received announcements of the marriage of Miss Doris G. Getman, youngest daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Getman of Lafargeville to Ellis E. Stanton, son of Mr. and Mrs.  William Stanton of Plessis.
  The were married on the bride's birthday, June 11, 1926. The bride was attired in a green flat crepe dress with coat and hat to match. The couple was unattended.
  Mrs. Stanton attended Lafargeville High school and later entered training for a nurse at House of Good Samaritan at Watertown.
  Mr. Stanton is well known in this vicinity being a farmer by occupation.
  The young couple left for an extended motor trip through the northern part of the state, returning to a summer resort at Lake Onterio. On their return, the later part of June the couple will reside near Lafargeville.

  LAFARGEVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Stanton, Tanners Corners, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
  Mr. Stanton and Doris Getnam were married June 11, 1926. at North Hero, Vt., by the late Judge John Gudhope. The couple bought the Tanner farm in August, 1927, and continued operation until 1961 when they sold it to their son and they moved to their present address.
  The couple has a son, Ivan, and three grandchildren, Leo, eight, Leslie, four, and Paula, four months. A son, Ralph, died at the age of eight in October, 1938.
