Louis W: Walthousen, 70, of 26 Valley View Road, former chief X-ray technician at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, died at 11:35 Friday morning in Amsterdam Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for 10 days. Mr. Walthousen was born in Amsterdam Oct. 7,1898, a son of Louis and Anna Cunningham Walthousen, and received his education in the public schools. He also attended a local business school and several Xray schools.
From 1918 to 1945, Mr. Walthousen worked with Dr. David Wilson of this city as an X-ray technician. Following Dr. Wilson's death, he became chief X-ray technician of the Amsterdam City Hospital and continued to serve in this post at Memorial Hospital until he retired in January, 1969.
A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Walthousen was a member and past master of Artisan Lodge 84, F&AM, a member of Oriental Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, a past Grand Lodge representative to Costa Rica and a former president of the Amsterdam Masonic Club.
He was also a past president of the Capital District X-ray Society, a life member of the New York State X-ray Society and a member of the American National X-ray Society. Mr. Walthousen was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and a member of the Municipal Athletic Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Brown, whom he married in June, 1928; one son, L. David Walthousen, Scotia; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Mochrie, Rochester; one sister, Mrs. Earl Mathewson, Amsterdam; three grandchildren and several cousins.

Miss Saundra Elizabeth Visscher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C. Visscher of Amsterdam, became the bride of L. David Walthousen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis W. Walthousen, also of Amsterdam, on Sept. 10 at a ceremony in the Second Presbyterian Church. Rev. Roland S. Fredericks officiated at the 2 p.m. rites. Palms and baskets of white gladioli decorated the church. Nelson O. Kennedy was at the organ.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of satin fashioned with a sabrina neckline and a Watteau back formed a chapel train. Her silk illusion veil trimmed with lace was held in place by a crown ot illusion, leaves and seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white delphinium and green leaves.
Miss Margo Harris was maid of honor. Mrs. Helen Greenwood of Saratoga Springs was a bridesmaid. Each chose a gown of beige satin with a matching bow headpiece. Each carried a bouquet of white delphinium.
Daniel B. O'Donnell of Poughkeepsie was best man. E. Wayne Visscher, brother of the bride, and William Rowan were ushers. Gary A. Mockrie of Rochester, nephew of the bridegroom, was a ring bearer.
A reception was held at the home of the brlde's parents.
The bride, a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch high school, is employed as a secretary by Vilon Inc. The bridegroom, a graduate of Williston Academy, Easthampton, Mass., and Union College, is employed in the nuclear research division of Alco Products.
The couple will reside in Northampton Court after Oct. 15.

Mr. Herbert Benjamin Jones, 85, of Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, passed away Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica. Born on June 3, 1921 in Canajoharie, he was the son of the late Herbert and Robie Lettice Jones. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Jones was of the Lutheran faith. He was employed as a carpenter and for the Town of Canajoharie and later as a security officer for Beechnut. Mr. Jones also served in WWII in the United States Army. He served from February 1944 until January of 1946 in the European Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara M. Goodemote, who he married on August 5, 1940; four daughters, Beth A. Fassett (Lauren) of East Springfield, New York; Karen A. Cromie (James) of Glendale, Arizona, Diane L. Jones of Tarrytown, New York and Robin K. Saltsman (David) of Canajoharie, New York; three sons, David H. Jones (Josephine) of Canajoharie, New York, Dr. Daniel R. Jones, of Denver, Colorado, and Clark C. Jones (Ruth Ann) of Bayard, West Virginia; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Jones was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Harry Jones.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Gail Wolling presiding. Private internment will take place in the Ft. Plain Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 5 until 6.

The Reverend Keith Ray Shinaman, 88, of Marcellus, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Van Duyn Home and Hospital on Sunday, October 10, 2010. The oldest of three sons born to Harvey Ray and Nellie Shinaman, Keith was born on November 21, 1921, in Syracuse and was a graduate of Syracuse Central High School, Syracuse University and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving from 1942 to 1946 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Okinawa and Korea.
Keith and his wife of 62 years, Alice Lasher Shinaman, who predeceased him on August 2, 2005, were married on New Year's Eve 1942. They had five children, Keith Charles McLean-Shinaman, residing with his wife, Carol Ann, in Tariffville, CT, Linda Shinaman Handville, residing in Alfred, NY, Alan Lee Shinaman, who predeceased his parents on July 10, 1991, John Ray Shinaman, residing in Flagstaff, AZ, and Jill Ann Shinaman, residing in Syracuse, NY. In addition to his children, Keith is survived by his brother, David Lee Shinaman, and his wife, Rev. Marilyn Russell Shinaman, of Lancaster, PA; and 12 grandchildren. His brother, Paul Charles Shinaman, predeceased him on September 23, 2005.
Keith was a proud and active resident of Marcellus for 65 years. He retired in 1992 after serving for 36 years as pastor of Marcellus First Presbyterian Church. The church honored him with the designation of pastor emeritus. Throughout his career in the ministry, he was active in leadership roles in the Presbyterian Church, serving as moderator of the Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery and of the Synod of the Northeast, and as a member of the national General Assembly from 1978 to 1989. He was a passionate advocate for world peace and equal rights. Prior to being called to the ministry in 1956, Keith was employed as an engineer by New York Telephone Company. In the local community, he volunteered as chaplain of the Marcellus Fire Department for 45 years and was honored recently with the designation of chaplain emeritus. He was also a certified baseball umpire, a scout leader and summer camp chaplain and the videographer/ photographer for high school athletic contests. Keith was a 47-year member of Morning Star Lodge #524 F.&A.M. and a 21-year member of American Legion Post #297 Ralph Share. In addition, Keith enjoyed playing the clarinet and the piano, traveling to interesting places with his family, and was an avid golfer, photographer and fan of Syracuse Chiefs baseball and Syracuse University sports.
A memorial service celebrating Keith's life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St., Marcellus. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Marcellus, NY, will be private at a time to be determined by the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church or the Marcellus Volunteer Fire Department.

On Thursday night. December 31, Miss Alice Eunice Lasher, daughter of Mrs Vernon W. Lasher. became the bride of Keith Ray Shinaman of Syracuse, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ray Shinaman of Syracuse. The ceremony took place at 8 p. m., in the First Presbyterian Church in this village, and was performed by Rev. Harold W. Estes, a former student pastor here, and now of Avon, N. Y.
The bride wore a gown of blush satin, and her flowers were white roses. Her maid of honor was her sister. Jean C Lasher, who wore green taffeta, and carried yellow pompoms The bridesmaids were Grace L. Lasher, Virginia Cummings of Minon. and Naomi Peddicord of Chittenango Miss Lasher and Miss Cummings wore blue taffeta and Miss Peddicord wore rose taffeta, and all three carried white pompoms. All wore matching slippers.
The best man was the groom's brother, Paul Shinaman. of Syracuse, and the ushers were David Shinaman and Robert VanDeveer of Syracuse and Donald Kenyon of Chittenango.
The church was decorated with evergreen and poinsettas. The ceremony was performed by candle light. The organist. Mrs. John Wright, Jr., played several organ selections before and duiring the ceremony, including "Oh, Promise Me"; "I Love You Truly"; "Because"; and "Panis Angelicus." The bride was given away by her grandfather, C F Boardman. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride.
Mrs. Shinaman is a graduate of Chittenango High School and Central City Business Institute of Syracuse. She is employed as a secretary in the Merchants National Bank and Trust Company of Syracuse. Mr Shinaman graduated from Central High School in Syracuse and attended Syracuse University. He is employed by the New York Telephone Company.
The couple will be at home after January 7, at 1805 South Avenue, Syracuse.

Mr. Paul Charles Shinaman, 79, of Finley Street, North Wilkesboro, husband of Helen M. Shinaman, died Sept. 23, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Shinaman was born Feb. 16, 1926, to the late Harvey Ray and Nellie Slaght Shinaman in Syracuse, N.Y. A graduate of Syracuse University, he spent his early adulthood in Syracuse before relocating in Wilkes County. He was a former employee of Northwestern Bank and retired from the Learning Resource Center (now RESA) as a management analyst. A member of the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, Paul served as the director of Men of the Church program, usher, and Sunday School teacher. He was one of the first volunteers at the Samaritan Kitchen and was active in the Bosnia refugee resettlement. In addition, he went as a disaster relief volunteer to North Dakota and the coast of North Carolina. He was a former member of the Rotary Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Mabe Shinaman.
His survivors in addition to his wife include sons, Craig Shinaman and wife, Debra, of Mooresville, and Dr. Brad Shinaman and wife, Melanie, of Moravian Falls; brothers, Rev. Keith Ray Shinaman of Marcellus, N.Y., David Lee Shinaman and wife, Rev. Marilyn Shinaman, of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Dr. Richard Shinaman and wife, Joelle, of Walnut Creek, Calif., Brian Shinaman and wife, Cyndi, of Wilmington, Daniel Shinaman, Jay Shinaman and Stephanie Shinaman all of Moravian Falls.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. N. Nelson Granade Jr. and Dr. J. Christian Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wayland Bible Class. A celebration of life will be held in the Wayland Hall following the service. Burial services will be private.

Mrs. Ruth Taylor Edick, wife of Arthur Edick of Schenectady, former Johnstown residents, died yesterday in a convalescent home in Albany following an illness of five months.
Mrs. Edick was born in Johnstown and educated in the local schools. She was a member of the First Church of Albany. Her husband was employed in the advertising department of The Leader-Republican prior to their moving
to Schenectady from Johnstown 23 years ago.
The survivors besides her husband are three sons, Arthur and Richard of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Robert of Schenectady; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Morrison and Mrs. Walter Shaver of Hope; two grandchildren and several cousins.
The funeral will be held at the Griswold funeral home, 1S67 East street, Schenectady, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. F. Raymond Clee will officiate.
Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Schenectady.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. I. D. Van Valkenburgh, pastor of the Methodist church, and the couple was attended by Miss Ada Taylor, a sister of the bride, and Alfred Shaw.
The home of the bride had been prettily decorated for the event with plants and flowers, a green and white color scheme being carried out. The bride was attired in a gown of white silk, covered with shadow lace, and carried a bouquet of white roses. The bridesmaid wore a dress of pink mull and carried pink roses.
After the wedding, a course dinner was served. The couple then left amid congratulations of the guests, for a ten-day auto trip to the cities of western New York. The couple received many useful and valuable gifts from friends and relatives. Both the young people are popular and well-known residents of this city, the bride having been employed as stenographer at Hewitt & Hillock's factory, while the groom is foreman in the job printing establishment of John R. Walrath.

BROADALBIN — Mrs. Bertha May Whiting, 46, wife of Henry Whiting, died yesterday afternoon at 12:30 at her home on Broadalbin R. D. 1. She had been ill several months.
Mrs. Whiting was born in Mayfield, April 17, 1903, the daughter of Samuel W. and Sylvia Nolan Frederick. She was a member of the Mayfield Presbyterian church.
She was married to Mr. Whiting on April 2, 1931. Her main interest was in her family.
The survivors besides her husband are: one daughter. Nancy; two brothers, Fred L Frederick, Gloveraville, and Russell Frederick, Gloversville R. D.; one sister, Mrs. Scott Vandenburgh, Gloversville, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at the Olson funeral home in Broadalbin. The Rev. Burchard G. Ham of the Baptist church will officiate. The engagement of Miss Marion R. Sweetman, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Charles Sweetman, 404 North Market street, to Albert Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson, 34 Beaver street, Gloversville, was announced at a party given Wednesday night at the home of the parents of the bride-to-be. There were about twenty-five relatives and friends in attendance.
The affair was in honor of another daughter, Miss Marjorie Sweetman, whose marriage to Volkert C. Whiting, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Whiting, 7 Comrie avenue, has been announced.
During the early evening cards were in play, with progressive pinochle as the main feature. The prizes were awarded to Mrs. Elsie Dwelly, Miss Ethel Johnson, Albert Johnson and John Gentile. At the close of play refreshments were served, and a small decorated wagon was drawn into the room by Marie Gentile, William Day and James Sweetman. The wagon proved to be loaded with gifts for the guest of honor.

Miaa Marjorie Sweetman, daughter ef Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sweetman, 404 North Market street and Volkert Whiting, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy B. Whiting, 7 Comrie avenue, were united in marriage yesterday afternoon at 4 at the home of the bride's parents.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. David Paton, pastor of the Methodist church, in front ot a trellis, decorated with cut flowers which had been erected in the parlor, in the presence ot a group of 86 relatives and friends of the young couple.
The bridal party entered the room to the strains of a wedding march played by Mrs. Earl Van Aernam at the piano. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The bride was gowned in white taffeta and tulle, a garland of orange blossoms and slippers to match her gown. She carried an arm bouquet of sweet peas. The bridesmaid, Miss Marion Sweetman, a sister, wore pink organdie, with headdress and slippers to match, and carried roses. Henry Whiting, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served at the Sweetman home. The bride presented her attendant with a white gold pendant, and the bridegroom's gift to the best man was a silver cigar case.
Later in the evening the couple left on a wedding trip to Western New York and upon their return will take up their residence in a newly furnnished apartment at 203 North Market street.
Mrs. Whiting was graduated from Johnstown High School with the class ef 1882, and has since been employed at the Scotsmoor Company factory. Mr. Whiting attended Johnstown High School and is employed by the Case Tanning Company, Gloversville.

George Getman, 31, Meco truckman. died from a broken back and internal injuries recieved Wednesday, when hit bay a log rolling off his truck, while unloading at the Fyles & Rice veneer plant near Bethel, Vt. He died some hours later in the Gifford Memorial hospital in Randolph, Vt.
Mr. Getman and Arthur Beyer of this city had maintained two trucks near the Kalil gas station on West Fulton street and had been engaged in the contract drawing of pulp logs to Vermont. They had just started the job of hauling logs between Minerva and the Fyles & Rice plant. Mr. Getman made his first trip on the new job Monday, then started on another trip Tuesday, as the Beyer machine was laid up for repairs.
He was unloading his truck at the veneer plant at 7:30 yesterday morning, according to plant officials, when a large log rolled off the top of the load and struck him across the back. He retained conciousness while being taken to the Gifford hospital in the E. H. Sturk ambulance from Bethel.
Dr. Angell took over the case, but Mr. Getman was so seriously injured that he died about seven hours later, before relatives could reach his side. Mrs. Gctman went to Vermont Wednesday and had not returned yesterday.
George Getman was born at Albany Bush (Montgomery county) on May 8, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Getman. He attend the public schools in that area.
He married Miss Florence Gregory and the family moved to Meco about one and one-half years ago, buying a small farm near the Meco-Caroga Lake road.
The survivors include the widow; two daughters. Joyce and Ann; four sons, George Jr., Lawrence, Richard and James, residing at home: his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Getman of Johnstovn, the former of whom is proprietor of the Ed & Clark cigar store, and one sister, Mrs. Clark M. Young of Sammonsville.
The body will be brought to the Kennedy funeral home at 150 South Main street, where the funeral will be held this afternoon at 2. The Rev. Chester Wing, pastor of the Johnstown Reformed church, will officiate. Burial will be in Fern Dale cemetery.

Florence E. Boles, age 92, of Meco, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born May 11, 1916 in Keene Valley, N.Y., the daughter of the late Fred and Dora King Gregory. She was a 1932 graduate of Johnstown High School.
Florence was first employed as a glove worker for the former Swears Glove Company in Johnstown, N.Y. and was employed for many years in the Meco School cafeteria and was known as Grandma Boles to many students. She taught religious education for the former St. Mary's Church and was a member of the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. She was a charter member of the Meco Fire Dept. Auxiliary and a member of the Concordia Club. Florence was a very spiritual and positive individual who relied on her faith to guide her through life and who always looked at the positive side of things. Time with family was Florence's greatest joy whether it be at their camp on Mt. Lake or her many Christmas Eve celebrations. Along with family time, Florence enjoyed bird watching as well as her family's many pets.
Florence is survived by her husband, Carl T. Boles, whom she married on Feb. 4, 1950; nine children, Joyce G. Mancini (Alphonso) of Fonda, N.Y., George H. Getman Jr. (Janice) of Meco, Lawrence T. Getman (Dot) of Gloversville, H. Richard Getman (Christine) Meco, James E. Getman (Donna) of Meco, Betty A. Getman of Gloversville, Linda Sue Hartin (Ed) of Gresham, OR, K. Billie Towne (Greg Patterson) of Meco and Carl T. Boles Jr. (Jacquelyn) of Meco; 26 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her cousin, Betty Charlier of Binghamton, N.Y.
Florence was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Gregory in May 2007; and first husband, George H. Getman, September 3, 1947.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Finocan Funeral home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Spring interment will take place in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, N.Y. or the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 149 South Main St., Gloversville, N.Y. 12078.
