Marriage Notes for Florence Eugenia Freeman and Carl Albert Kirchner

 - Wedding Announcement (The Journal and Courier, Little Falls, NY, Tuesday, August 9, 1921)
  Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock the marriage of Carl Albert Kirchner and Miss Florence Eugenia Freeman was solemnized at the First Baptist church in this city, Rev. H. C. Cooper performing the ceremony. Miss Alice Freeman, the bride's sister, and George Scheimer were the attendants. The bride's dress was of white taffeta, trimmed with alencon lace. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and sweet peas and wore a white taffeta hat. Her maid wore a pale green organdie dress and a green organdie hat and carried sylvia roses. The church was prettily decorated with wild flowers, the colors being yellow and white. The bride was given away by her father. A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Everett Freeman, on Church street. Mr. and Mrs. Kirchner departed for a honeymoon trip to Asbury Park.
  Mr. Kirplpncr is the son of Mr. and Kirchner of Petrie street and has been employed at the Remington Typewriter plant for some time. His bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Everett Freeman of Church street. For the past five years she has been an office assistant at D. H. Burrell & Company's office.
  Both are well know and popular young people whose many friends will wish them long life and happiness. They will reside on Petrie street this city.

  The death of Mrs. Charles Shader of Cooperstown occurred on Wednesday morning at 8:20 o'clock at the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital where she had been a surgical patient since June 2nd of this year.
  Mrs. Shader was born at Little Falls on September 1, 1900, the daughter of D. Everett and Alice (Snell) Freeman. She was married to Charles E. Shader in Little Falls on July 14, 1922.
  Mrs. Shader lived in Little Falls until the time of her marriage and they have lived in Cooperstown for the past twelve years.
  Surviving are her husband, Charles E. Shader, an officer in the Merchant Marine; three sons, Charles E. Shader, Jr., a Flight Engineer in the United States Navy; William C. Shader and Ross F. Shader of this village; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Everett Freeman of Little Falls; a sister, Mrs. Albert Kirchner of Little Falls; two nephews, Dan F. Kirchner, a Flight Engineer in the Navy, and Peter C. Kirchner, a Naval Cadet at R. P. I..
  Mrs. Shader was a member of the First Baptist church of Cooperstown and a member of the choir of that church.
  Funeral services will be held from the Baptist church on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Dr. Wilbur S. Sheriff officiating. Burial will be made in Inghams cemetery at Ingham's Mills.

  Miss Mildred Ann Lawlee, Faxton Nursing staff member, daughter of Mr. and Mrs John P. Lawlee and Kermit Helmer, Newport, son of Mr. and Mrs Lynn Helmer. were married Saturday at Our Lady of Lurdes Church.
   Miss Mae Lawlee, Copenhagen, sster of the bride and Kenneth Helmer, Middleville, were the attendsnts. Areception at the home of the bride's parents in Copenhagen followed the ceremony.
 After a trip to Western New York Mr. and Mrs. Helmer will live at 16 Prospect. Mrs. Helmer was feted at showers by Mrs. Lynn Helmer, the nursing staff of Faxton Hospital, Miss Ruth Roberts and Miss Blanch Pheink.

  MIDDLEVILLE - Quentin S. "Bill" Helmer, 89, of State Route 28, died unexpectedly Feb. 4, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after being stricken at home.
   Mr. Helmer was born in the town of Norway on May 3, 1911, a son of the late Lynn and Cora Shibley Helmer. He received his education in Norway and Newport schools and was united in marriage with the former Helen Goodman May 23, 1935, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Middleville. Mr. Helmer worked at Savage Arms during World War II and later operated Helmer's Feed Store in Newport for many years, from where he retired. He was a 60-year member of Newport Lodge 455 F.&A.M. and a charter member of the West Creek Club. Bill enjoyed the time he spent hunting and fishing.
   Survivors besides his wife of 65 years, Helen, include three daughters, Diana Repinz and Charles Thorpe of Haines Falls, Linda Thorpe and her husband, Phillip of Tannersville and Melissa McKerrow and her husband Roger of Newport; three sisters, Geraldine Clement of the Loretto Home, Utica, Lavina Scott of Ilion and Arlene Harris of Newport; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Helmer of Newport; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
   He was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, Charles and Kermit Helmer and by one sister, Eleanor Johnson.
   Funeral services will be held at Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dwayne A. Durand, pastor of Newport United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Salisbury Rural Cemetery.
   Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Members of Newport Masonic Lodge will meet at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 8 to conduct their ritualistic service.

  NEWPORT - Mr Charles Helmer, 66, passed away at Faxton Hospital, February 27, 1978. Mr Helmer was bom January 18, 1913. the son of the late Lynn and Cora Helmer He was educated in the Newport schools. September l, 1934, he married Evelyn Murray at St John's Church, Newport
  Mr. Helmer served in WWII and was an active member and Past Commander of West Canada Vallev Post #1524 of the American Legion He was also a member of Newport Lodge #455 F & AM and was a past member of the Newport Volenteer Fire Co.
  Mr Helmer was employed for many years at the Borden Co. in Newport. He was last employed at West Canada Valley Central School.
  Besides his widow, he is survived by one son, Kermit R Helmer, Buffalo, NY; three brothers, Kenneth, Gray, NY, Kermit D of Utica and Quentin (Bill) of Middleville, four sisters, Mrs. William (Lavina) Scott, Mrs Geraldine Clement, Mrs John (Arlene) Harris, all of Ilion and Mrs Arthur (Eleanor) Johnson. Newport. There are also two step-grandsons. Robert and Gary Nelson and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral serivces will be conducted at the Autenrith Funeral Home. Newport on Wednesday at 11 am. Interment in  the spring will be at St John"s Cemetery, Newport.
  Calling Hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 Masonic services wall be held Tuesday at 8 p m at the funeral home.

  Newport - Evelyn Helmer, 97, of Willoughby Hall, died on July 24, 2009, at Masonic Care Community, Utica.
   Mrs. Helmer was born on January 20, 1912, in Utica, a daughter of the late George and Eva (Pierce) Murray. Evelyn grew up on local farms with her family and received her education from Poland and Newport Schools.
  On September 1, 1934, she was united in marriage with Charles Helmer in Newport. Mrs. Helmer was employed at the former Borden plant and area restaurants. She was last employed at the West Canada Valley Central School Cafeteria for ten years before her retirement in 1974. Charles preceded her in death on February 27, 1978. Mrs. Helmer was a member of St. Johns Church.
  Survivors include one granddaughter, Kelli Helmer; two step-grandsons, Gary and Rob Nelson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special caregivers, Barb Tasovac, Eva Maxwell and Lisa Helmer; and a special friend, Norma Flansburg. In addition to her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Kermet Helmer on October 20, 2002; her brothers, Frederick, George and Raymond Murray; and her sisters, Jean Murray and Helen Righter.
  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Johns Church, Newport, on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Father William A. Gorman, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In accordance with Evelyns wishes there will be no public calling hours.
  The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice and the Masonic Care Community. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to the Newport Volunteer Fire Co. #4, P.O.   ILION - William J Scott, 72, of 33 E River St. a retired assembler at Remington Arms Co. died Friday January 1, 1982.
  He was born on March 25, 1909 in Ilion, a son of William and Anna Kearny Scott and graduated from Ilion High School. He was very active on the football, baseball, and basketball teams Mr Scott attended Notre Dame University and St Lawrence University. On August 10, 1940 he was married to Lavina Helmer in Newport. Mr Scott was a member of the Church of the Annunciation; Ilion K of C; and the Northside Athletic Club. He was also one of the original organizers of the Ilion Little League and was a manager for several years.
  Survivors include his wife; one daughter. Mrs Thomas (Mary Lois) Marotta, of Rochester, one son Michael Scott, of Albany; two sisters, Mrs Joseph (Elizabeth) Swanson, of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Mrs Loretta Demars, of Amsterdam; one brother, Francis Scott, of Hollywood, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Marotta; and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be held 10 a m Monday at the Applegate Funeral Home, Ilion, and 10:30 a m at the Church of the Annunciation. Calling hours are Sunday 2-4 and 7-9.

  Miss Gereldine Elisabeth Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Helmer of Newport, and Charles Crumlish, son of Mrs. Loretta Crumlish of Buffalo; were married Mar. 6.
  The ceremony, took place in St. Bartholomew's Church, Buffalo, with the Rev. John O'Brien officiating at the nuptial Mass.
  The brides, given in marriage by her brother, Kennit D. Helmer, Utica, wore a two-piece green suit with brown accessories and a spray of brown orchids.
   Miss Arlene Helmer, the bride's sister, who was her only attendant, wore a coffee colored two-piece suit with luggage accessories and a corsage of yellow rosebuds.
   Lawrence Minnig was the best man. A wedding breakfast was served at Lynn's Tea Inn followed by a reception in the home of the bridegroom. Afler a short trip the couple will make their home in Buffalo.
  The bride is a graduate of Newport High School and Edward J. Meyers Hospital where she is now employed as night relief superintendent. Mr. Crumlish is a graduate of Niagara University and is employed by the United States Engineer Corps. Quests Attended from Utica, Newport, Carthage and Ilion.

  ILION - John (Hopper) Harris 60, of 79 Fourth St , an engineer at Oswego Casting Co, died Tuesday, December
18, 1979.
   He was born on August 8, 1919 in Little Falls, the son of William and Julia Harris, and graduated from St Mary's
School. He  was a veteran of W W II, serving in the U S Army in the Pacific and the E. T. O. On August 1, 1953. He
married Arlene Helmer in Newport. For 25 years, he was an industrial engineer at Sperry Rand-Univac. Mr. Harris was a member of the Church of the Annunciation., Ilion American Legion #--- and Ilion VFW # ---.
  Survivors include his wife, Arlene, one daughter, Mrs. James (Deborah) Farnham of Ilion; one son, Gary L Harris of Lousiana; four grandsons and one grandaughter; one cousin, Mrs. Helen Goodman, Mohawk Valley Nursing Home.
  Funeral services will be held 10:30 a,m. Saturday at the Applegate Funeral Home, and at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation. Calling hours ar Thursday 7-9 and Friday 2-4 and 7-9.
