EDITH MAY BRODBECK, 102, died at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 1, 1994, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born May 12, 1892, in Monticello, to Charles and Rachel Rider Overley. On May 12, 1909, she married Lewis D. Neitermayer, who died in 1947. On Jan. 7, 1950, she married Roy Brodbeck, who died May 5, 1977.
Mrs. Brodbeck was a home maker. She was a resident of the Valley Nursing Home in St. Marys for the past five years and was a long time resident of St. Marys before moving to New Bremen.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys, the Zion Lutheran Church Women and the Dorcas Society of the church.
Survivors include two half brothers, Lloyd Adams of Spencerville and Clayton Adams of Mendon; and five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Neitermayer; a daughter, Carol Luedeen Fledderjohann; a sister, Alta Sherman; six half brothers, Jim, Ora, Otis, Harold, Vernon and Layton Adams; and two half sisters, Opal Edmond and Hazel Howell.
Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. The Rev. Theodore T. Stellhorn III will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery. Friends may call noon to 2 -p.m Saturday at the funeral home.

Alta M. Sherman
SPENCERVILLE - Services Will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home for Alta M. Sherman, 88. She died at 6:45 Friday at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 26, 1894, in Van Wert County, the daughter Charles and Rachael Rider Overly. On July 3, 1912, she married Leo H. Sherman, who died in August 1962. Mrs. Sherman was a homemaker. She was a member of Spencerville Grange and the IDA Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Mericle of Spencerville; two grandsons and 11 great- grandchildren; four half-brothers, Vernon Adams, Lloyd Adams, and Layton Adams, all of Spencerville, and Clayton Adams of Mendon; a sister, Mrs. Edith Brodbeck of New Bremen; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Hazel Howell of Spencerville and Mrs. Opal Edman of El Centro, Calif.
Services will be at 1:30 Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, David Howell officiating. Burial will be Spencerville Cemetery.

Ora A. Adams, 67, of 320 S. Main, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday at his home of an apparent heart attack while operating a small tractor at his residence.
Born Feb. 6, 1902, in Allen County, he was the son of, John Q. and Rachael B. Rider Adams. He married Jennie, M. Brown on Jan. 13, 1928 and she survives.
Also surviving daughter, Mrs. (Karen) Seibert village; a son, Kenneth of 3975 Spencerville Rd.; two sisters, Mrs. Forest (Opal) Edmond of El Centro, Calif., and Mrs. MeIvin (Hazel)
Howell of Rt. 2; six brothers, Otis, James, Vernon, Lloyd, Layton, all of this village, and Clayton of Rt. 1, Mendon; two half- sisters, Mrs. Roy (Edith) Brodbeck of St. Marys, and Mrs. Alta Sherman of here.
He was a member of Friends Church of which he had been treasurer for 18 years and was a member of 25 Year Club of Baldwin Lima Hamilton , Corp., where he was employed as a welder, for the past 26 years.
Services will be 2 Saturday in Friends Church Rev. James Tatsch and Rev. Harold King officiating. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

Services Held Here For Otis L. Adams
Funeral services for Otis L. Adams, 65, of 408 S. Canal St., were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home with Rev. K. Roy Johnson officiating.
Mr. Adams died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in a local physician's office as the result of a sudden heart seizure.
He was born May 15, 1904, a son of John Q. and Rachael B. (Rider) Adams. On June 1,1, 1928, he was married to the former Sarah Catherine Purdy, who survives.
Also surviving are me son, Charles, of Charles St., Spencerville; one daughter, Mrs. Homer (Mary) Dickson of 411 S. College St.; five grandchildren; two 4sisters, Mrs. Forest (Opal) Edman of El Centro, Calif., and Mrs. Melvin (Hazel) Howell of Rt. 2, Spencerville; five brothers James, Vernon, Lloyd and Layton, all of Spencerville; and Clayton of Rt. 1, Mendon; and two half sisters, Mrs. Roy (Edith) Brodbeck of St. Marys and Mrs. Alta Sherman of Spencerville.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ora, who died Dee 31, 1969.
Mr. Adams had operated a garage here for 20 years, and at the time of his Death was serving as bus mechanic for the Spencerville School District. He was , member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lodge 767 at St. Marys.
Interment was in the Spencerville Cemetery.

Wednesday for James Adams, 73
Funeral services for James W. Adams of 122 S. Pearl St. were held at 1.30 p.m. Wednesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh W. Bowland and Rev. David Howell officiating.
Mr. Adams, 73, died at 2 p.m. Saturday in Roselawn Manor after three-month illness.
He was born June 1, 1909, a of John Q. and Rachel B. (Rider) Adams. On March 26, 1933, he was married to the former Verla A. Miller, who died June 20, 1961.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Carolyn) Richardson and Mrs. L. Fred (Pat) Vulgamott, both of Spencerville; four brothers, Vernon, Lloyd and Layton, all of Spencerville, and Clayton of Mendon; four sisters, Mrs. Edith Brodbeck of New Bremen, Mrs. Alta Sherman and Mrs. Hazel Howell, both of Spencerville, and Mrs. Opal Edman of El Centro, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis and Ora.
Mr. Adams had owned and operated the James Adams Plumbing & Heating Co. in Spencerville for 45 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Spencerville, and the Allen County Sportsmen and Farmers Assn.
Burial was in the Spencerville Cemetery, with Robin, James, and Dee Richardson, Randy Becker, Ken McNett and Tim Carder bearers.
Preferred memorials are American Heart Assn.

Funeral services for Hazel M. Howell of Rt. 2, Spencerville, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home with her grandson, the Rev. David W. Howell, officiating.
Mrs. Howell died at 6:45 pm, Thursday, Jan. 30, 1992, at St. Rita's Medical Center where she had been a patient for nine days,
She was born in Amanda township, Allen county, on Nov. 10, 1911, a daughter of John Q. and Rachael B. (Rider) Adams. On July 25, 1927, she was married to Melvin E. Howell, who died Nov. 24, 1982.
Surviving are a son, Don Howell of Spencerville; a grandson, Rev. David Howell of Nelsonville; a granddaughter, Vickie A. Howell of Spencerville; three great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd D. Adams of Spencerville and Clayton V. Adams of Mendon; and one half sister, Edith Brodbeck of New Bremen.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, six brothers, and two sisters.
Mrs. Howell was a member of the Spencerville United Church. of Christ and the Northwestern Ohio Field & Stream Assn. She was retired after 18 years of employment at Margaret's Dress Shop in Spencerville.
Burial was in the Spencerville Cemetery with Jim Williams, Randy Arthur, Mike Savidge, Dave Grover, Jim Leis, Terry Laman, Kirby Cummins and Ed Bindel as pall bearers.

Vernon A. 'Curby' Adams, 72, of W. North St., Spencerville, died at 8:47 p.m. Sunday,
January 15, 1989, in the Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville following a lengthy illness.
Born March 13, 1916, in Amanda Township, Allen County, Ohio, he was the son of John Quincy Adams and Rachel B. Rider. On May 6, 1939, he married Helena Zuber, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Merlin E. Adams of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Donna) Likens of Courtland, Nebraska, Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Fuller of Spencerville, and Shirley Adams of Lima; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Other survivors include two sisters, Opal Edmond of El Centre, California, and Hazel Howell of Spencerville; three brothers, Lloyd Adams and Layton Adams of Spencerville, and Clayton Adams of Mendon; and one half-sister, Edith Brodbeck of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, three brothers, and one half sister. A farmer, Mr. Adams attended the Bethlehem Christian Union Church near Buckland, Ohio. He was a retired cement contractor, employed by the Ohio Decorative Products Company in Spencerville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 18 in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Rev. Carl W. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.

Helena Adams, 90, died at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 27, 2007, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville. She was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Allen County t o John Peter and Susanna Jane Roberts Zuber, who preceded her in death.
On May 6, 1939, she married Vernon A. "Curby" Adams, who died Jan. 15, 1 989. Mrs. Adams retired in 1979 as a cook from Spencerville grade school. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Union Church. She had been a member of Ida Rebekah Lodge 391, Spencerville. She was a 1935 graduate of Spencerville High School. She enjoyed reading and working puzzles.
She had been living at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home for the last five years. Survivors include four children, Merlin E. (Marsha K.) Adams, of Albion, Ind., Donna J. (Jerry) Likens, of Courtland, Neb., Evelyn M. (Charles) Peace, of Spencerville, and Shirley Adams, of Lima; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Ditto, of Delphos; a brother, Robert (Jayne) Zuber, of Elida; two brothers-in-law, Ray Whetstone, of Cridersville, and Clayton Adams, of Mendon; and two sisters-in-law, Edith Adams and Betty Adams, both of Spencerville.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Lamb, Marie Whetstone, Louise Miller and Kathryn Beamond; two brothers, Kenneth and John Zuber; and a brother-in-law, Roger Ditto. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. David W. Howell and the Rev. Jeffrey M. Phail will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lloyd D. Adams of Spencerville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday, January 30, in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. David Howell will officiate, and burial will be held in Spencerville Cemetery, with grave site military rites conducted by the Local VFW and American Legion Posts. Mr. Adams died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient four weeks.
He was born February 10, 1918 in Allen County, a son of John Q. and Rachel B. Rider Adams. On February 26, 1939, he married Sarah M. Howell, who died February 4, 1989. On December 20, 1997, he was married to Betty J. Thomas Brooks, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Linda L. (William 'Bill') Hahn of Lima, Gloria J. Gossard of Wapakoneta and Janet L. Adams of Wapakoneta; a son, Timothy W. (Thressa) Adams of Elgin; two step daughters, Bonnie (James) Hall of Dover, Del. and Beverly Focht of Spencerville; a step son, Duane (Amy) Brooks of Enice, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 18 step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and a brother, Clayton (Mary) Adams of Mendon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Marie Adams; a son, Daniel Lee Adams; a grandson; three step grandchildren; six brothers, Ora, Otis, James Vernon, Layton, and Harold Adams; four sisters, Edith Brodbeck, Alta Sherman, Opal Edman, and Hazel Howell. Mr. Adams had been retired since 1975 after 31 years service at the Lima Army Modification Depot. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in the South Pacific.
He was a life member of both the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, where he was a past trustee and sergeant of arms, Bowersock Bros. VFW Post 6772, both of Spencerville, serving on there honor guard. He was also a member of Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Association

Funeral Services, Held Monday for Layton Adams, 70
Funeral services for Layton Adams of Sunset Avenue, Spencerville, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home with the Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Mr. Adams died at 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 30, 1991, in Lima Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Allen county on Oct. 19, 1920, a son of John Q. and Rachael (Rider) Adams. On March 23, 1941, he was married to the former Edith M. Armstrong who survives. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March.
Also surviving are a son, Larry E. Adams of Spencerville; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Susan) Lee of Spencerville and Mrs. Edward (Joyce) Williams of Morganton, N.C; six grandchildren, two step-grandsons and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Adams of Spencerville and his twin brother, Clayton Adams of Mendon; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Howell of Spencerville; and a half-sister, Mrs. Edith Brodbeck of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ora, Otis, James and Vernon Adams, one sister, Opal Edman; and a half-sister, Alta Sherman. Mr. Adams was a member of the Spencerville United Church of Christ, where he had been a Sunday School teacher and member of the church's official board. He retired in 1973 from Teledyne Ohio Steel in Lima where he had 32 years of service as a store room clerk. He was a member of the, company 25-Year Club, and was a former Spencerville village councilman. He had started the Pony League Baseball program here, and was a member of the SHS Class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Army signal corps in the South Pacific,;during World War 11. He was a member of Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191, and was a charter/life member and past commander of Bowersock Bros. VFW Post 6772.
Burial was in the Spencerville Cemetery, where Grave side military rites were conducted by the local VFW and American Legion color guard. Military memorial services were also held at the funeral home at 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Pall bearers were Stoney Kill, Doug Geise, Leo Brown, Dan Gaberdiel, Don Leppert, Earl Thompson, Danny Goetz, Bernard Leis, George Cox, and Lloyd Binkley.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the United Church of Christ memorial fund.

Mary Adams
Mary Helen Adams, 84, 321 Drake St., Mendon, died at 5:55 p.m. July 23, 2007, at her residence.
She was born May 20, 1923, in Mercer County, to Glenn Carter and Bessie Pauline Lutz Snavely. On Nov. 26, 1942, she married Clayton V. Adams, who survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Dennis (Debra), Lake Mary, Fla.; a daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Boley, Corinth, Miss.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Dianna Sue Jilek; a brother, Glenn Junior Snavely; and three sisters, Winifred Darras, Virginia Muhlenkamp and Phyllis Blythe.
She was a homemaker and worked as a sales clerk at Jones Jewelry, Celina. She was a 1942 graduate of the former Mendon-Union High School, a trustee of the Mendon-Union Alumni Association, a member of Mendon United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star 91, Celina, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6772, Spencerville.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial is at the Mendon Cemetery.
