Father of Accident Victim Once Pastor At East Stone Arabia
The Rev. Gerald Boycr, father of Lin Boyer. the 19-year-old West Sand Lake youth who was killed in an automobile accident near Troy Friday morning, was formerly minister of the Evangelical Church at East Stone Arabia and Mrs. Boyer is the former Thelma Saltsman of Stone Arabia.
Besides his parents, the victim of the fatality is survived by one sister, Tammy: his grandfather, George Saltsman, Stone Arabia, and aunts and uncles including Malcolm Saltsman, Fort Johnson, Leo and Clyde Saltsman, Stone Arabia, Mrs. Mildred Bollen. Palatine Bridge, and Mrs. Robert Lansing, Rensselaerville.
- Newspaper Article (Times Record, Troy, NY, Thursday, November 4, 1965)
The 19-year-old son of a West Sand Lake clergyman was killed about 1 a.m. today when an auto he was driving went off the Peck Road, opposite the Excelsior House, Snyders Lake, and slammed into a tree.
A passenger in the 1959 sedan was injured, but not seriously. Victim of the accident was Lin Boyer, son of Rev. Gerald S. and Thelma Saltsman Boyer of the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church. The youth was a pre-ministerial student at HVCC.
Injured in the crash was Kelly Cooke, also 19, of Orchard Lane, West Sand Lake, who is in "fair" condition at Samaritan Hospital with head, right wrist injuries and abrasions to his knees.
Authorities said that young Boyer had been baby-sitting for his younger sister and upon his parents return left to come to Troy to get a friend who was working and take him home. Boyer and Cooke, were apparently on their way back to West Sand Lake when the tragedy occurred.
State Troopers James Mahar and Henry Kolbenski of East Greenbush, who investigated, with Coroner Raymond S. Miller of West Sand Lake, said that the car, owned by the youth's father, was traveling south.
The car rounded a slight right-hand curve, went off the east side of the highway, and struck a large elm tree four feet off the highway. Cooke was thrown from the vehicle and he crawled about 300 feet to a nearby house trailer occupied by Harry Doakmajian, owner of the Excelsior House, who summoned police and ambulances.
Boyer was trapped in the tangled and twisted wreckage of the auto for some time until he was extricated by the crew of the rescue fire truck from the Wynantskin Fire Department. ...
