  The marriage of Miss Verna M. Dewey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon E. Dewey of Wells and Kenneth H. Allfrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Allfrey, 109 South Perry street, this city, took place yesterday morning at 11:30 at a very pretty home wedding at the residence of the bride's parents in Wells. Rev. Franklin W. Worden, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of that village, performed the ceremony.
   The home was appropriately decorated with an artistic arrangement of seasonal flowers and the conventional potted plants of green, while the double ring ceremony was solemnized beneath a white canopy in front of a bank of palms, ferns and garden flowcss.
   The bride was attractively gowned in white silk crepe and wore a corsage of yellow roses and lilies of the valley. The maid of honor, Miss Eleanor E. Allfrey, sister of the bridegroom, was gowned in flowered chiffon and her corsage was of Talisman roses, William Wock of this city was best man.
  Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served to members of the bridal party and immediate relatives at the Hotel Wells. The young couple departed in the afternoon by auto for New York city, Provincetown and Boston, and on their return will reside at 109 South Perry street, this city.
  The bride presented her attendant with an evening purse and the bridegroom's gift to the best man was leather.
  The bride is music supervisor in the Johnstown public schools, completing her fifth year in that capacity and has signed a contract to return next Fall. She is a graduate of the Wells High school and Skidmore college at Saratoga Springs, class of 1928. She also attended Summer school at New York university for three years.
  Mr. Allfrey, well known radio man, attended Johnstown High school and a Boston Technical school, He was formerly engaged in the radio business, but at the present time is a paid fireman, connected with the Central station, having been appointed as substitute for the vacation period.
  Both are popular among their wide circle of friends, who join in congratulations and best wishes for their future.

  Mrs. Eleanor Allfrey Wood, 94, a life long Johnstown resident, died Thursday at Mt. Valley Hospice Facility in Gloversville.
  Born July 4, 1912 in Gloversville, the daughter of Henry and Edith Evans Allfrey.
   She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1929 and then attended Syracuse University after which she became an assistant Librarian in the Johnstown Public Library, retiring in 1968. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown; also a Girl Scout leader for Troop 15 in Johnstown; an avid golfer, she was a long time member of The Antlers Country Club and Hales Mills Golf Club; former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the students club and life member of the Johnstown PTA.
   Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, U.S. Army Captain Paul Norcross Wood in 1972; and by their only child, Paul Jean, who was killed in a horseback riding accident in New York City's Central Park in 1975.
   There will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory. A memorial service will be held at a future date that will be announced. Final interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.

  JOHNSTOWN - Funeral services for Paul N. Wood, 55, former store owner, who died Thursday night at his home, will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family at the Brown and Ehle Funeral Home by the Rev. E. Ellwood Carey.
  Mr. Wood was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Rochester and graduated from a high school in that city. He attended Washington and Lee University, and was inducted into the Army in 1941.
  Mr. Wood was discharged from the service in February 1945 and was recalled to active duty during the Korean confilct. He was separated from the military service in June 1954 with the rank of captain.
  Before entering military service Mr. Wood was a manager at the F. W. Woolworth Store, Buffalo, and after leaving the army he opened Wood's Juvenile Furniture Store in Johnstown. For the last 15 years he was a buyer of floor coverings for Sears Roebuck and Co., until retiring two weeks ago. He was also night clerk for 25 years at the Johnstown Motor Inn.
  Mr. Wood was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
  Survivors are his wife. Mrs. Eleanor Allfrey Wood; a daughter, Miss Paula Wood of New York City, and a cousin.

  The ceremony was performed Friday night, July 11, in the Center Methodist church. Provincetown, Mass., by the Rev. Roy Q. Whiting. Mrs. Allfrey, mother of the bride, was the only attendant.
  Mrs. Wood, graduate of Johnstown High school, is a member of the Johnstown Public Library staff.
  Mr. Wood has been connected with the F. W. Woolworth Co. store in Schenectady and was inducted under the Selective Service Act with a quota from that city July 24. He is at present stationed at Camp Davis, North Carolina.
  Announcement of the nuptials will come aa a pleasant surprise to many friends of the bride in Johnstown.

  Joanne Tremper Saltsman daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh S. Saltsman of Rhinebeck, N. Y., and John Edward Clarke, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Clarke of Sanford were married June 10 in Oberlin, Ohio.
  The Rev. Willard Strahl, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Fargo, N. D., performed the ceremony that was held in Fairchild Chapel, Oberlin College.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her wedding gown was of white Morningstar silk and point D'anglais lace, fashioned of Empire style with pearl and sequin embroidered lace bodice, short sleeves, lace mitts and a Sabrina neckline. The full skirt fell in inverted pleats to form a chapel train. Her fingertip veil was of white illusion caught to a crown of pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade bouquet of Stephanotis and Eucharist lilies with ivy.
  Miss Marilyn Strahl, of Fargo, a classmate of the bride was maid of honor. Her gown was a daytime-length dress of white organza over ice blue taffeta. She carried a nosegay of yellow roses with blue highlights.
  The bride's mother wore a turquoise print dress with matching accessories and a corsage of pink cymbidium orchids. The bridegroom's mother wore a pink silk eyelet sheath dress with white accessories and a pink cymbidium orchid corsage.
  Serving as best man was Hugh Vernon of Bangkok, Thailand. The ushers were L. Tremper Saltsman, brother of the bride and Thomas Schuman of Waterlown.
   After a reception at Oberlin Inn, the bride and groom left for a wedding trip to Mexico City.
  Mrs. Clarke received her bachelor of arts degree from. Oberlin College in June. Mr. Clarke is majoring in Govt at Oberlin.

   ALTMAR - Rushton K. Saltsman, Altmar merchant who was a native of Williamstown, and formerly a well-known semi-professional baseball player, was drowned Sunday morning in Lake Francis, in the main channel of the St. Lawrenc River, at a point where the river is 80 feet in depth, when he fell out of a boat from which he and a party of Altmar friends were fishing for muskelonge. with him were Royal Pretory, Principal Elston A. Eckler of Altmar-Parish Central school, George McCullough, and Joseph Fowler, the later from Port Ontario. According to information telephoned to Norman Brown, Altmar undertaker, Saltsman had complaind of not feelin g well a shor time before he suddenly stood up in the boat and toppled over the side into the river. Pretory dove overboard in an attemp at rescue, but was unsuccessful, and the party put into shore to get assistance and gappeling equpment to recover the body.The party left here last week for a 10-day fishing trip.
  Saltsman, known as "Huck" was born in Williamstown, July 22, 1908, a son of Mrs. Eva Lee Blakeman Saltsman and the late Albert Saltsman. He attended Williamstown school and went to high school in Camden where he formed a bartery on the school baseball team with his brother Lee. He was a left-handed pitcher and his box work attracted much attention. In 1937. 1938 and 1939 he pitched for Boonville after he had been given a tryout eith the Clebeland Indians in the American League. He was farmed out to New Orleans La., in the Southern Association for experience, and then went to Fairmount, W. Va., team of the Piedmont League. He would not play the outfield and pitch, also ther and was given his release, returning to play semi-professional baseball in Centreal New York. He was a member of Boonvilloe Lodge No. 165, F. & A.M. and was employed there by the Municipal Lighting Commission. During the last war he was a munitions worker in the Remington plant in Ilion, and opened a hardware and bottled gas business in Altmar later.
  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. June Park Saltsman, two sons, Park and Peter; a daughter, Sally; his mother, and by two brothers, Lee of Rhinebeck, and Burt of Altmar.

  Altmar - Sunday morning in the Methodist church a painting "The Good Shepherd" was dedicated to the memory of Rushton Saltsman who lost his life in the St. Lawrence river last July, and his little daughter Dorothy who fell through the ice and drowned near Camden a few years age. The picture was given by Mrs. Ruston Saltsman.

  Jane P. Griffin, 82, of 3870 Sconondoa Road died Tuesday at home after a long illness.
  Mrs. Griffin was a native of Syracuse. She graduated from Nottingham High School. She retired as a nurse's aide from Oneida City Hospital in 1976.
  Mrs. Griffin was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star and the Madison County Historical Society.
  Her first husband, Rushton K. Saltsman, died in 1949, and her second husband, Arthur Earl Griffin, died in 1965. A daughter, Dorothy Saltsman, died in 1937.
  Surviving are a daughter, Sally Ready of Oneida; two sons, Rushton P. Saltsman of Schnectady and S. Peter Saltsman of Portsmouth, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Alice Warren of Oneida; two stepsons, Arthur Griffin of Verona and Phillip Griffin of Oneida Castle; a sister, Anne Miller of New Port Richey, Fla.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
  Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ironside Funeral Home, the Rev. Leon I. VanWie officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar.
  Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida.

  - Funeral Announcement (Daily Sentimel, Rome, NY, Monday, March 15, 1937)
  Camden, March 15 — The funeral of Dorothy Evaleigh Saltsman, three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rushton Saltsman, who was drowned in Fish Creek on Wednesday, was held Saturday afternoon from the Presbyterian Churdh at Williamstown. The Rev. B. A. Walton, pastor of Camden United Church officiated and was assisted by the Rev. F. G. Doershug, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The bearers were Lieutenant Prime, Hawkinsville OCC Camp, Henry Plummer, Dudley Grow, also of the camp and Herbert Call, an officer of the Empeyville CCC Camp.
  There were many beautiful floral tributes from neighbors, friends and relatives, as well as the Forestry College which Mr. Saltsman formerly attended; officers and fellow members of both the Empeyville and Hawkinsville CCC Camps.
   Interment was made in the Williamstown Cemetery.

  DOVER, N.H. - Steven Peter Saltsman, 67, of Dover, N.H., former resident of Oneida, N.Y. passed away in Boston on Oct. 28, 2014 as a result of a stroke. Born in Pineville, N.Y. on Sept. 3, 1947, he was a son of Rushton and Jane Park Saltsman.
  Pete is survived by his children, Brett Saltsman and his wife, Caroline of Chesapeake, Va. and their children, Natalia, Caterina and Anastasia; his daughter, Kristin Saltsman of Milford, N.H. and her son, Finegan Burgess; his sister, Sally Ready and family of Oneida, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Doreen Saltsman and family of Schenectady, N.Y., many cousins and a stepbrother and wife, Philip and Ruth Griffin of Oneida, N.Y.
  Pete graduated from Oneida High School and had a bachelor of science degree from Hillsdale College in Ohio and master courses in plant pathology at the University of Maine, Orono.
  He is predeceased by his father and mother, a sister, Dottie and a brother, Rushton Park Saltsman.
  He was a member of the Dover Church of Christ in Dover, N.H. and held all members as his second family. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 17, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the church.
  Pete always said, "Don't get bit by an infected tick!" i.e. Lyme Disease. All Hell to pay.

  Robert Saltsman, an Ardsley resident and a retired supervisor of security at Childrens Village in Dobbs Ferry, died yesterday at home of a heart attack. He was 68.
  For 28 years, he worked for Childrens Village, a home for emotionally disturbed youths, retiring as a security supervisor in 1988.
  He was born Sept 4, 1923, in the Bronx to Harold and Louise Radomsky Saltsman. He graduated from New York City public and trade schools.
  During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Rangers.
   He married Gladys O'Connell in New York City 43 years ago. Thirty years ago, they moved from Manhattan to Ardsley.
  Mr. Saltsman, who had a mixed-breed dog named Duke, enjoyed animals, often helping find homes for stray ones.
  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Rob, of Ardsley, one brother, Eugene of Yonkers; and two sisters, Jeanette Ramsey of Miami and Ruth Busch of Texas.

  Gladys Saltsman of Ardsley died Friday at Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry. She was 65.
  Mrs. Saltsman was born Jan. 28, 1929, to Robert and Genevieve Braun OConnell in New York City, where she grew up and attended schools, including Taft High School in the Bronx.
  In 1949, she married Robert Saltsman in New York City. The couple moved to Ardsley 12 years later.
  Besides her husband, Mrs. Saltsman is survived by a son, Robert Jr. of Ardsley; three sisters, Irene O'Connell and Genevieve Villani, both of Yonkers, and Helen Cories of Denville, N J.; and a brother, Robert O'Connell of Amawalk.
  Arrangements are by Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home of Dobbs Ferry.

  Eileen D. Terzini, 85, of 6632 Williams Rd., Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born on July 16, 1923, in Oneida, the daughter of Thomas and Helen Stone Dixon. She was a graduate of Camden Central High School and of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing. In July of 1949, she was united in marriage to James E. Terzini in Utica. Mr. Terzini passed away on March 1, 1991.
   Eileen was the operating room nursing supervisor at Rose Hospital for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church and dedicated to Right to Life. Eileen was actively involved in Special Olympics for more than forty years.
   Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Stephen Mercurio, of Rome, Mary Margaret and James Cameron, of Fairfield, VT, and Maureen and Craig Zullo, of Rome; two sons, James P. Terzini and Ralph T. Terzini, both of Rome; a sister, Rita Moring, of North Bay; a brother, Richard Dixon, of Palm Beach, FL; and ten grandchildren, Matthew Mercurio and his wife, Emily, of Pittsburgh, Christian Mercurio and his wife, Andrea, and Patrick Mercurio, all of Rome, and Maria and her husband, Jeffrey Dorsch, of Laurel, MD, Kenneth and Jacob Cameron, of Charlotte, VT, Carolyn, Allison, and Lindsey Zullo, and Nicole O’Brien, all of Rome; six great-grandchildren, Carmella and Stone Mercurio, of Rome, Alta and Lorenzo Mercurio, of Pittsburgh, and Mia and William Dorsch, of Laurel, MD.; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by a sister, Cecelia Capparelli, and a brother, Thomas A. Dixon.
   Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 11:45 a.m. and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Paul’s Church at 12:30 p.m. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery.   Richard Joseph Dixon January 12, 2011 Richard Joseph Dixon, 84, of New Smyrna Beach, passed peacefully at the Southeast Volusia Hospice Care Center on January 12, 2011. He was born in Oneida, New York on October 5, 1926. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in WWII in the Philippines. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth O'Brien Dixon; four children, Diane (Jim) Cadd of Atlanta, GA, Julie (George) Rest of Washington, DC, Patricia (Brian) McGrath of Fort Lauderdale and Richard J. (Joanne) Dixon II of New Smyrna Beach; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Rita Moring of San Antonio, TX. Richard owned and operated a successful building company, Dixon Building Company, in the Oneida, NY area. A memorial service was held in Richard's honor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Richard will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse at later date this spring.   Elizabeth Jane Dixon, 85, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed peacefully at her home on February 1, 2015. Mrs. Dixon was a native of Syracuse and had resided in Oneida, NY for 43 years. "Betty Jane" was known for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family. She will be dearly missed. Mrs. Dixon attended Mass at Sacred Heart Church in New Smyrna Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard who died in 2011 and youngest daughter, Patricia Dixon McGrath who died in 2014. She is survived by her three children, Diane (Jim) Cadd of Atlanta, GA, Julie (George) Rest of Washington, DC, and Richard J. (Joann) Dixon II of New Smyrna Beach, FL; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 10 a.m. in Assumption Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 to 9:30 a.m. before the Mass at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home, 1217 N. Salina Street, Syracuse.
