EAST STONE ARABIA - Miss Christy S. Fox, daughter of Mrs. Hazel Prall, Fort Plain RD 2, and Richard Fox, also of RD 2, and Norman L. Kneeskern, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kneeskern, Stone Arabia street, Neliistcn, were married at 12 noon Aug. 27, at the Salem United Methodist Church, East Stone Arabia, with the Rev. Robert Jewell performing the Unity of Candles double ring ceremony.
The family pews were marked with white satin, bows, while the alter was adorned with white gladioli and daisies.
The organist, Mrs. Irene Andrews, Ephratah, played the traditional wedding music, the vocal soloist was William Lamphere, Fort Plain RD 2. Selections included "Love Story", "One Hand, One Heart", theme from "West Side Story" and "The Lord's Prayer".
Given in marriage by her grandfather, Christopher Fox, the bride were a full length gown of white silk organza draped over taffeta styled with a high rise neckline adorned with appliques of Venise lace and clusters of pearls. The fitted bodice was accented with matching lace and her long puffed sleeves ended in deep lace cuffs. An A-line skirt with soft folds terminated into a cathedral length train, the hemline defined by deep ruffles edged with matching lace. Her camelot headpiece fell from a cathedral length mantilla. The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white daisies.
The matron of honor was Mrs. Myra Heroth, Ephratah, cousin of the bride. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Sue Stergas, Johnstown, and Miss Dawnna Lake, Ephratah, friends of the bride Miss Brenda Byrne, Rockwood, cousin of the bride, and Mrs Denise Duesler and Miss Nancy Fox, both of Ephratah, sisters of the bride.
The matron of honor was attired in a full length gown of maracaine in petal pink with a high rise neckline and ring collar, a fitted bodice, circular skirt and a pink floral Jacket.
The bridesmaids were attired identically as the matron of honor in gowns of apricot, blue, lilac, Nile green and maize with floral capelets and matching picture hats.
The attendants carried colonial bouquets of white daisies and baby's breath matching their gowns.
The bride's mother chose a pale buttercup yellow easy flow polyester floor length gown with a sheer matching capelet trimmed with small sunkissed stars, white accessories and a daisy corsage with yellow baby's breath.
The bridegroom's mother wore a sheer coral printed crepe dechine empire style gown over coral polyester crepe with long sheer sleeves and standup collar, white accessories and a corsage of daisies and coral baby's breath.
The miniature bride, Kristina Duesler, Ephratah, niece of the bride, wore a full length gown of white organza over white taffeta with a high rise neckline and ruffled fitted bodice and puffed sleeves. Her bouffant skirt was fashioned with deep ruffles at the hemline and she wore a miniature camelot headpiece with a bouffant veil.
The best man was Vance Heroth, Ephratah, cousin of the bride. Ushers were John Eckler and Mark Shibley, Fort Plain; John Sutton, Stratford; Mark Klump, Nelliston, and Alan Prall, Canajoharie, stepbrother of the bride.
The miniature bridegroom was John Hall, Ephratah.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held for 300 members of the bridal party and guests at the Canajoharie Municipal building. Music for dancing was furnished by the Chelsea..
Later the couple left on a wedding trip to the New England States and Cape Cod, Mass. For traveling, the bride wore a three-piece brown pants suit with a matching plaid blouse and corsage of daisies.
The bride is a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1974, while the bridegroom graduated from Fort Plain Central School in 1973. He is employed by Palatine Supply, Nelliston. The couple is residing at Fort Plain RD 2.
The bridal attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Prall tendered by the bridegroom's parents. The bride was given a shower at the Ephratah fire station by her bridal attendants and Mrs. Betty Hulsaver, Mrs. Thelma Fox and Mrs. Beverly Lake.
Attending the wedding and reception were guests from Canajoharie, Utica, Fort Plain, Gloversville, Johnstown, Ephratah, Stone Arabia, Watervliet, Geneva, Long Island and New Jersey.

Her fiance also is a graduate of Fort Plain Central School and is employed by the New York State Department of Transportation. He also owns and operates Norm's Service and Repair Shop, Reid Street, Fort Plain.

Mr. Victor E. Eckler, 91, of Clark Avenue, Fort Plain, NY passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Albany Medical Center from complications following cardiac surgery.
He was born on December 6, 1923 in Frankfort, NY the son of the late Everett and Ada (Lowell) Eckler. Vic was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Fort Plain High School.
In 1946 he was united in marriage to Marie A. Borchert at the Methodist parsonage in Middleburgh, NY. During WWII, Vic served proudly with the Army Air Corps for four years in the Pacific Theatre. At age 90 he flew on a Leatherstocking Honor Flight to tour the WWII Memorial Monument in Washington, DC. He was a proud member of the Freysbush United Methodist Church and also a 70 year member of the Fort Plain VFW.
For 38 years, Vic was employed by the NYS Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; four children, John Eckler and his wife Sandra of Fort Plain, Kathleen Pellegrini of Fort Plain, Amy Eckler of Fort Plain and David Eckler and his wife Tialisa of Canajoharie; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Kneeskern of Nelliston; a sister in law, Charlotte Loadwick of Nelliston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Victor was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Pearl Schell; and brothers, LeRoy, William and Robert Eckler.
Funeral services will commence on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10 o’clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street with the Rev. Cynthia Leonard presiding. Burial will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 5 until 7p.m. at the funeral home. "Careless smoking" is being listed as the probable cause of a fire which swept through a 4 apartment house in Fonda this morning, killing a husband and wife, occupants of a downstairs dwelling, and a second man who resided on the second floor.
Two other occupants of the building and a visitor escaped from the fire-engulfed building at 5 Park Street in the village.
Killed in the blaze were Louis and Norma Myers, and Victor H. Eckler Jr., according to Montgomery County sheriff's department.
Myers was 71 years old, his wife was 68 and Eckler was 48. The Myers couple occupied the downstairs rear apartment in the 2-story wooden frame building, where the fire broke out, with Eckler residing in the upstairs rear apartment. ...

Rev. John L. Cairns, pastor of the church, and Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of the Fonda Reformed Church, performed the double ring ceremony. White roses and streamers decorated the altar. Mrs. Justina Bove, organist, played "Summerset," "We've Only Just Begun" and "The Wedding March."
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white silk organza over taffeta designed with a ring collar scalloped venise lace embroidered with pink rosebuds and interwoven with pink satin ribbon. Similar trim adorned the fitted bodice and long, puffed sleeves. The A-line skirt and chapel train were finished with double ruffling and ribbon and lace.
A matching Camelot headpiece held the bride's chapel veil of silk illusion. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white roses and pink sweetheart roses. Mrs. Beverly Zierak of Amsterdam, sister of the bride, was maid of honor in a wine double kint dress with a scoop neckline and lace banded balloon sleeves. She wore a matching ribbon trimmed picture hat and carried a bouquet of white pompons with a center of pink sweetheart roses.
Four other attendants wore similar gowns and picture hats in other colors. They were Mrs. Joyce Darrow of Fonda, in gold, Miss Terrie Zayicek oi Johnstown, sister of the bridegroom, in Kelly green; Miss Pamela Eckler and Miss Norma Eckler of Fonda, sisters of the bride, in yellow and mint green, respectively. They carried pompons with roses matching their outfits.
Stacy Lyn Zierak of Amsterdam, niece of the bride, was miniature bride in a white satin and lace gown and an elbow length veil. She carried a bouquet of white, rose and pink roses.
Edward Zayicek Jr. of Gloversville RD 2, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Allen Stewart of Perth, Philip Winney of Broadalbin RD and David Zayicek of Johnstown RD, another brother of the bridegroom. Brent Reed of Little Falls, nephew of the bridegroom, was ringbearer.
The mother of the bride wore a baby blue lace over satin gown with matching accessories. The mother of the bridegroom wore a princess styled pink polyester gown with chiffon sleeves. She wore matching accessories. Both wore white orchid corsages.
A reception for 200 was held at the Hotel Broadalbin after the ceremony with the Valley Ramblers providing music.
Guests attended from Fonda, Johnstown, Gloversville, Fort Plain, Canajoharie, Broadalbin and Batavia.
After a trip to Pennsylvania, the couple is residing at 8 Maple Avenue, Gloversville. The bride wore a teal blue pant suit and a corsage of white pompons and blue roses for traveling.

The bride attended Fonda- Fultonville Central School. She was graduated from the Royal Barber and Beauty School, Schenectady. She is employed as a cashier by the Truck Stop of America at Fultonville.

FORT PLAIN - Miss Sandra A. Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin E. Nelson, Fort Plain RD 2, was united in marriage to John V. Eckler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Eckler, Fort Plain RD 3 in a candlelight ceremony at 8 Friday night in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Stone Arabia.
Rev. Theodore E. Hammer, pastor of that church, performed the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with altar vases of white pompons and the pews were marked with white satin ribbons with candle holders. Gregory Hammer, Canajoharie, was the organist playing "Because," "I Love You Truly" and the wedding music. William Lamphere of Stone Arabia was the soloist.
The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her father, was attired in a full length white gown of organza over taffeta. It had a high rise neckline adorned with a ring collar of scalloped white Venice lace interwoven with pink satin ribbon. She had a fitted bodice and long puffed sleeves. The entire bodice and sleeves were adorned with reembroidery of Venice lace.
The soft A-line skirt had rows of lace and the skirt terminated into a cathedral-length train which was entirely edged with matching lace. From her open pill box, accented with Venice lace encrusted with pearls, fell a
bouffant veil. She carried a bouquet of white daisies with pink miniature roses and satin ribbon.
Miss Cheryl Kneeskern, Nelliston, served as maid of honor. She wore a sheer dress of dotted swiss. It was floor length and had a short train. She had a jeweled neckline and full length sleeves with cuffs. The gown was designed with an underdress of taffeta.
She wore a pictorial wide brim hat with matching hat band and carried a wicker basket of daisies dyed to match her gown.
Miss Cindy Nelson, sister of the bride; Miss Mari Vosburgh, Fort Plain were bridesmaids. They wore gowns identical to the honor attendant in shades of yellow and light green respectively. They had similar headpieces and flowers.
Gary Loadwick, Pittsburgh, Pa., was the best man. The ushers included Walter Haig, Canajoharie and Dean Diefendorf, Fort Plain.
The mother of the bride selected a light blue silk shift style pebble crepe dress with a beaded ring collar and matched cuffs. She had a matching pillbox hat and wore a cluster of daisies. The mother of the bridegroom wore an A-line style pink pebble crepe dress with white daisy trim and long chiffon sleeves. She had a matching layered hat and wore a cluster of pink daisies.
After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Mohawk Valley VFW home in Fort Plain with approximately 145 guests attending. After the reception, the couple left for a wedding trip to Canada. Upon their return,
they will reside at Fort Plain RD 2 (Route 10).
The bride was graduated in 1969 from Fort Plain Central School and completed an executive secretarial course at the Mildred Elley Secretarial
School in Albany. The bridegroom was graduated in 1965 from Canajoharie Central School. He served four years in the Air Force and is employed at Remington Arms in Ilion,

White Gladiolas and asters with aqua carnations were used as alter decorations. Mrs. Sueron Palmer, organist, provided traditional wedding music.
Miss Barbara Osley, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the Misses Susan Sweet, Sylvia Evans, and Cynthia Evans. Miss Nadine Harris was junior bridesmaid and Pennie Harris, flower girl.
Best man was Russell Wagner. Ushering were Mark Edwards, Dale Edwards, James Cormia and Edward Murray. Master Edwin Hajeris was ring bearer.

The maid of honor ware a floor-length gown of orchid dacron and voil, trimmed with aqua. The shirt-waist top featured ruffles down the front and at the neckline. Small buttons of orchid trrimmed the empire waistline and large cuffs of the long sleeves. The full skirt was of large waterlily print. She wore an aqua picture hat and carried an arrangement of white asters, aqua carnations and baby's breath. The bridesmaid’s gowns were of the same style and color. They wore picture hats or orchid and carried the same floral arrangements. The flower girt, dressed identical to the honor attendant, carried a basket of white asters, aqua carnations and baby's breath.
Following a reception from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Top Hat Restaurant, Fort Herkimer, the couple left on a wedding trip to the New England states and Canada. They will make their home in Oswego.
The new bride is a graduate of Mohawk High School and State University College, at Oswego. She will teach in the Pulaski School Sytem this fall. The bridegroom was graduated from Ilion High School and Williams port Community College, Pennsylvania. He is now a senior at State University College, Oswego.
A bridal shower was given by the bridal attendants and another by Mrs. Elizabeth Younglove.
Wedding guests were present from Canada, Alexandria Bay, Oswego, Skaneateles, Williamsport, Pa., and valley towns.

The engagement of Miss Sherlyn Ann Orford, daughter of Emerson C. Orford, Gouverneur , and Mrs. George E. Phillips, Swan Road, Watertown, to Anthony Joseph Ventura of Depew has been announced.
Miss Orford attended Fredonia State University college and is employed as a medical secretary in Buffalo.
Mr. Ventura is a graduate of Fredonia State University college and teaches at Lincoln elementary school in Depew.
The wedding will be July 19.

On August 17, 2016, after 94 years on this earth, Benjamin Francis Howells Jr. left for a reunion with his parents Benjamin Francis Howells Sr. and Sylvia Tuttle Howells; three brothers, Thomas F, Peter T. and James M. Howells; as well as his two wives Martha Grace (Nelson) and Wildene Martha Lund. Family members not attending that reunion include two brothers, Samuel J. and David J. Howells; daughter Sylvia (Lee) Wege; son Christopher Benjamin (Deanna) Howells; and daughter Catherine Jean (Jessie) Simpson; as well as 11 much-loved grandchildren; and 15 treasured great-grandchildren.
If you would like to visit those of us still here and share memories of Ben, please join us on Friday, Aug. 26th from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. and/or Saturday, Aug. 27th from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. we will have a funeral service. All of this is happening at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Rd. in Taylorsville, UT. There will also be a graveside service following the funeral at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South.

The bride-to-be is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Martineau, Mesa. Mr. and Mrs, Benjamin F. Howells, Union are parnts of teh future bridegroom.
Bidden to attend the bride as maid of honor at the reception is Miss Joyce Rogers.
Mr. Howells is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He has fulfilled an L D S mission to the southern states.
Afrter a honeymoon the couple will returen to make their home in Salt Lake City.

Rita J. Howells, 68, passed away on February 10, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on June 21, 1931 in Murray, Utah to Frank Bernard and Carolina Laveder DaRonch.
She is survived by her children, Dana Howells of Los Angeles, California; Morgan Howells of Salt Lake City; her brother, Frank DaRonch of Murray; her sister, Linda Jenkins of Panama City, Florida; her grandson, Matt Boyd of Salt Lake City.
She graduated from Murray High School in 1949 and earned both Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from the University of Utah. She taught school in Murray and Granite School Districts and retired in 1992. She remained active in the retired teachers association activities, traveled extensively, was an avid golfer and skier, and completed many pieces of beautiful needlework.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2000 at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 So., where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment at Sunset Gardens, 10600 So. 17th East, following the Services at 3 p.m.

SPRINGERFIELD, AZ - Samuel John Howells, 87 died Monday Nov. 27, at the Behive Home in Eagar, Arizona. He was born April 30, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Sylvia Vivian Tuttle Howells and Benjamin Francis Howells.
He mnarried Joyce Wiltbank Davis in the Manti Temple of the Morman Church. To this union Amy Jo Howells was born. Yvette Marie Davis (Joyce's daughter from her first marriage) was later adopted and sealed to Sam. The family lived in Utah, southwest Missouri and finally Joyce and Sam moved to northern Arizona to live with the extended family.
Sam was preceded in death by his daughter Yvette (2005). He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Springervile, Arizona and Amy Jo Howells of Niangua, Missouri. He was a hard working man who loved to garden & who loved his family, his home and his church. He lost most of his hearing son after learning to talk so his fmaily rejoyces with him that he can hear well again.
