Benjamin Floyd Bennett Jr

  Benjamin F. Bennett,  former senior application engineer for materials handling industry with General Electric Co's industrial sales operation in Schenectady, has been named manager of general industry engineering at the company's industry control department at Salem, Va.
  BENNETT JOINED GE in 1941 and has worked in the fields of industrial control, machine tool drives and material handling drives.
  He received his BS degree in electrical engineering from the university of Wisconsin in 1944 after serving two years with the navy in World war II.
  In his new post, Bennett will be responsible for product, systems, and application engineering of electrical controls and devices manufactured for general industrial use.
  Bennett, his wife and two children now live at 862 Park, lane, SW, Roanoke, Va.

  Benjamin F. Bennett passed away suddenly late on Friday evening, August 12, 2011, from a heart attack. He was 92 years old and a resident of Brandon Oaks in Roanoke. He is survived by his wife, Constance Rice Bennett; two sons, Douglas of New York, and David of Raleigh; a brother, Edwin of Chicago; David's wife, Mary Jane, and their daughter, Maryscott; and five nieces and nephews. Mr. Bennett retired from General Electric in 1982 as the Manager of Engineering Administration at the Drive Systems Department in Roanoke. Ben was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast having been both a Charter in 1970 and, later, Life Member of Hunting Hill Country Club. He was an active golfer until he was 90. Ben and his wife have been members of the First Presbyterian Church for 50 years where he served in numerous officer positions over the years.
   Ben was a life long philatelist and a founding member of the Big Lick Stamp Club, serving for a period as its president. In his retirement, he took on many assignments appraising stamp collections for estates and was one of the best known appraisers in Western Virginia.
   Benjamin F. Bennett Jr. was born on June 1, 1919, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to Benjamin Floyd Bennett and the former Edith Moore. His father was in management with a local subsidiary of U.S. Steel. Ben dropped the junior from his name early in his career.
  Ben attended Martin's Ferry High School graduating in 1937 and was the center on the basketball team. He attended the University of Wisconsin graduating in 1941 with a B.S. in electrical engineering. His uncle was one of the founders of the Electrical Engineering Department at the school. Ben joined the General Electric Company in 1941 and went through GE's training program in Schenectady where he met his future wife, Connie.
   Ben was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy in 1943 and worked with electronics during the war. Connie and Ben were married on December 23, 1944, at Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady.
   After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, Ben and Connie returned to Schenectady where he rejoined the General Electric Company and worked in various engineering and management positions. In June 1961, following a promotion and transfer at GE, the family relocated to Roanoke and resided for many years in the Jefferson Hills area.
  In 1970, Ben served as the national president of the GE Elfun Society, an honor that he particularly enjoyed, and after retirement went on the Elfun Society's Board of Directors as the Senior Elfun serving until 1980. In retirement, Ben and Connie traveled extensively overseas and particularly enjoyed the many cruises that they took.
  A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Brandon Oaks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial remembrances be made to either the First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke or the Brandon Oaks Resident Endowment Fund.   Donald G. Damon, 76, of Central Square died Sunday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness. Mr. Damon retired in 1993 as office manager after 30 years with Oswego Asphalt Corp., Palermo, and previously was employed with Easy Washer Co., Syracuse, and General Electic Co., Liverpool. Mr. Damon was a graduate of Central Square High School. Mr. Damon was a life member of the Central Square Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Windey; a daughter, Donnette Damon of Cleveland; a foster son, Joseph Bunder of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Dorothy Rothschild of DeWitt; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.    Mrs. Auborn was a life resident of Cleveland. She retired in January after 10 years as Cleveland village clerk.
   Surviving are three daughters, JoAnne Wooley of Liverpool and Pamela Riggs and Roberta Auborn, both of Cleveland; two sisters, Celestine Auclair of Liberty and Kathleen McCluskey of Mount Vernon, Ohio; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cleveland.

  CLEVELAND — A pretty wedding took place in St. Mary's Church Saturday at 2 p. m. when Miss Elizabeth Mary Houser, dughter of Mrs. Mabel Houser and the late Frederick W. Houser, became the bride of Robert Joseph Auborn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Auborn of Brewerton, Rev. Fr. Dwyer officiating.
  Miss Agnes Towne of Cleveland was bridesmaid and James Armstrong of Central Square was best man. The bride wore a light blue suit with hat to match and wore a pink orchid corsage. The bridesmaid wore a light gray suit with hat to match and wore a gardenia corsage. Mrs. Francis P. Dock of Cleveland sang two solos accompanied by Miss Sarah Bedell of Constantia.
  The church was decorated with daffodils by Miss Agnes Houser, an aunt of the bride. The bride is a graduate of Cleveland High School and was employed at Kaiser's Market, and the groom is a graduate of Central Square High School, and has served in the last war.
  Following the wedding ceremony, the mother of the bride gave a luncheon at the Globe Hotel to 42 guests. The tables were prettily decorated with sweet peas, daffodils and gladiola by Mrs. David Hurley and an aunt of the bride, Miss Anna Houser, provided the name cards and favors.
   Guests who attended the wedding and luncheon were from Brewerton, Cicero, Jewell, Oneida, Durhamville, Central Square, Rome, Homer and Cleveland. The newlyweds left on a short honeymoon visiting relatives in Binghamton and Liberty.

  The latter writes the injury is not serious and he is now in a hospital in the Marianas Islands. Young Sharpe is with 4th Marine Division of the 25th Regiment.
  His brother, Pvt. George F. Sharpe, is a member of an Army section which was recently cited in Luxembourg.

  Mrs. Fragapane selected a satin and lace street - length gown and a three - tier veil caught to a full headpiece. She carried White sweetheart roses.
  A reception was held at the Lee Center Fire House. The couple is living at 409 E. Linden St. Mr. Fragapane is employed by Pettibone Corp.

John Richard Smith

  John R. Smith, age 83, of Rome, passed away Monday June 11th 2012 at Rome Memorial Hospital. John was born on July 3rd 1928, son of Claude T. and Marie A Hawkins Smith, Sr in Rome NY.
  John (Jack) married Lorraine A Sharpe on November 25, 1948 at St. Peters Parish, Rome. They shared 53 years together before her passing on October 6th, 2001.
  John worked until retirement at Rome Cable Corporation, where he was the Manager of the Maintenance and Calibration Department. He also formerly owned and operated the Wells Boat Shop, and Smith Sales and Service of Rome.
  John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed and took great pride in wood working projects in his spare time. He was known to be quite the handyman.
  He was predeceased by his parents, one granddaughter Kimberly Lynn Neiss, one great granddaughter Alexandria Catherine Snow, brother Claude T. Smith, Jr; son in law Jack
Libertino, and two brother in laws Frank (Bud) Abbe and Richard Page.
  May John now spend an eternity with Lorraine as he so desired. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

  Joseph T. Pawlikowski, 86, of Fish Creek Landing Rd., Blossvale, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at his home.
  He was born on July 13, 1930, in Rome, the son of Frank and Mary Komuda Pawlikowski.
  On May 7, 1952, Joe was united in marriage to Harlene Sharpe in Rome.
  Joe was a truck driver for the Coleman Brothers and later the Red Star Express, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Local 317 in Syracuse and the Local 182 in Utica.
  Joe was an avid outdoorsman and always spent his spare time in the woods.
   Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty-four years, Harlene; are two daughters, Cynthia Rounds, of Oneida, Becky Pawlikowski, of Cary, NC; three sons, Bradley Pawlikowski, of Lakeport, Mark Pawlikowski, of Utica, and Joseph (Gloria) Pawlikowski, Jr., of Bernard’s Bay; six sisters, Evelyn Beecher, of Verona, Helen and (Michael) Mizgala, of Rome, Anna Master, of Rome, Agnes Babcock, of Verona, Catherine Peck, of Holland Patent, and Frances O’Brien, of Syracuse; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
