  Obituary for Edward L. CAPELS, died March 23, 1979
  Edward L. Capels, 62, of 2136 S. Geddes St., died Friday at Community-General Hospital after a short illness. A native of Gasport, Capels had resided in the Syracuse area for the past 60 years. He was a foreman in the roll department of Crucible Steel Co. of America. Capels was a member of the Management Club of the Crucible Steel Co. Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Bidswll [sic–Bidwell]; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia A. Sutler, and Miss Carolyn; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Capels; two brothers, Norman of East Syracuse and James; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Stolusky of Albany, Mrs. Helen Bartholomay of Rochester, and Mrs. Catherine Spies of Liverpool; four grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services will be 9 a.m. Monday at the John C. Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home, 1921 W. Genesee St.

Norman A. Capels, 82, of Deerfield Road, East Syracuse, died Saturday at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. He was born in Syracuse. He retired in 1980 after 37 years as a truck driver with I. Fleischman & Sons Furniture Co. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church, a life member of 101st Airborne Association and a member of Eastwood Senior Citizens Club. He served in the Army during World War II and led a parachute squad of the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Normandy. He received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and the Jubilee of Liberty Medal from the governor of Normandy. Survivors: His wife, the former Marion J. WALSH; five daughters, Janet KELLY and Linda DRAZEK, both of Liverpool, Ellen CAPELS of Syracuse, Norma DenBLEYKER of Clay and Patricia THOMS of North Syracuse; two sons, Joseph Capels of Colorado and David Ford of North Syracuse; three sisters, Betty STOLUSKY of Guilderland, Helen BARTHOLOMAY of Rochester and Catherine SPIES of Liverpool; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.   John J. Capels, 61, of 7432 State Fair Blvd., Baldwinsville [Onondaga County, NY], died Saturday, January 13, 1979 at St. Joseph's Hospital after an apparent heart attack. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ann WELSH of Phoenix [NY], and Miss Linda and Miss Nancy [sic], both of Baldwinsville; his father, Lawrence J.; a brother, Bernard of Lakeland; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia JULIAN of Fulton and Mrs. Laura TREPASSO of Cortland; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Syracuse and lived in the Phoenix area prior to moving to Baldwinsville 30 years. He was employed for 43 years by the Crucible Specialty Metals Division of Colt Industries, Inc. He was communicant of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Baldwinsville. He was vice president of the Crucible Credit Union and a member of the Crucible Recreation Club. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Capels was a member of the American Legion Post 113 and VFW Post 153. He was also a member of Baldwinsville Moose Lodge 644. Services were 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Falardeau Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

 - Bernard L. CAPELS, 75, of Lockport, died Tuesday at Briody Health Care Facility in Lockport. Mr. Capels was born in Syracuse. He was a metallurgist at Crucible Steel until his retirement in 1981. He returned to New York recently after living in Silver Springs, Fla., for 16 years. Among his interests were playing semi-professional basketball and raising and showing quarter horses in Syracuse. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Kathryn EVANS; a daughter, Kristi POLSTER of Lockport; a son, Larry of Syracuse; and five grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Church in Lockport. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1914 Colvin Blvd., Tonawanda 14150. Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, Lockport, has arrangements.
