MOHAWK—Miss Barbara L. Hy|de, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred B Hyde, of Mohawk RFD 1, became the bride of James G. Herkel, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Herkel, Sr., of 328 Graham St. at 1 p.m. today in a double ring ceremony in the Reformed Church, performed by the Rev. James W. Benes, pastor.
The church was decorated with white gladioli. Mrs. Paul Agrelius was organist.
Miss Beverly Hyde, of Mohawk, was maid of honor for her twin sister. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Dorothy West, of Newport, a sister of the bride, and Miss Nancy MacDonald, of Mohawk, a friend. Miss. Susan Robin West, of Newport, was flower girl for her aunt.
Fred Kenyon, of Mohawk, a step-brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were John Barscz, of' Herkimer, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Robert Mellert, of New Hartford, friend of the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a floor-length gown of white Chantilly lace and tulle, fashioned with a modified Sabrina neckline accented with iridescent sequins, long sleeves ending in bridal points and a fitted bodice. The full skirt, was made of tulle over ruffled tulle and taffeta underskirts. A full panel of chantily lace covered the back of the skirt and made a pointed peplum effect in front over a lace appliqued tulle skirt. Her lace pill box headpiece was attached to a fingertip length veil of imported French illusion.
The maid of honor and bridesmaids wore street-length dresses of hunter green silk organza. The strapless bodices were styled with pleated cummerbunds of silk organza and double tee straps. The bouffant skirts of organza over silk taffeta were finished off with deep hemlines. The short jackets, cut into Sabrina necklines and deep vee backs, were completed with bracelet-length puffed sleeves. They chose headpieces of matching green tulle petals and circular veiling.
The bride carried a prayerbook centered with a white orchid, with streamers of tiny white ribbon tied in bridal knots.
The maid of honor carried a cascade bouquet of white pompons with red roses, while the bridesmaids carried cascade bouquets of lavender pompons with yellow roses.
The flower girl was dressed identically to the bride, with a floor-length gown, and carried a basket of assorted garden flowers.
The bride’s mother wore a pure silk avocado green sheath dress. The bridegroom's mother wore an Italian jersey purple sheath dress. Both had white orchid corsages.
After a reception at the American Legion Home, Mohawk, the couple will leave for a two-week honeymoon in the Southern States and Florida. After Sept. 25, they will reside at 131 Forrest St., Utica.
Mrs. Herkel is a 1952 graduate Mohawk Central High School and is employed as a secretary at the General Electric Co., French Rd.. Utica. Mr. Herkel is a 1953 graduate of Herkimer High School and attended St. Lawrence University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He is employed at the American Telephone & Telegraph Co.. 280 Genesee St., Utica.
Pre-nuptial events were given by Mrs. John Barscz, Mrs. Fred Kenyon, Mrs. Robert West. Miss A Beverly Hyde and Miss Nancy MacDonald. The bridal party and immediate family were entertained at a cocktail party Friday evening, after rehearsal, by the bridegroom's family.
Guests attended from Torrington Conn.; Boston, Mass; Rochester, New Hampshire, Utica, New Hartford and valley towns.

Ostrander, Gordon Daniel ( Gordy ) 81 of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully on March 12, 2010. Gordon's passions were softball and dancing. He was survived by his three sons Kenneth, Daniel, William and his three grandchildren Brandi, Brenna and Jake. Services will be held in Springfield New York.

Arthur D. Scouten, 64, passed away of an apparent heart attack Jan 6, 2000, in the Town of Boonville. He was born in Port Leyden Sept 20, 1935, son of Percy B., and Grace E. Webster Scouten. He graduated from Port Leyden High Class of 1953. For a short time after that he was employed at Savage Arms Co. of Utica. On Feb 7, 1953,
Mr. Scouten was married with Barbara A. Bartelotte. Jan 1954, he began his employment of 43 yrs at the Gould Paper Co. During this time he was employed in different sections of the mill, and then was employed for several years in the Control Dept. of the paper mill, retiring from Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. in 1997. He took great pride in his community, and in doing so he served as the Mayor of Port Leyden in the 1970's, and again in the early 1990's and at the present time he was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Village of Port Leyden. Mr. Scouten attended the United Methodist Church, He is a retired member of the Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Local 560, Paper Makers Union, and was a past president of this union. He was instrumental in the founding of the present retirement benefit program and pension system for the paper mill retirees. He was a member of Elks Club #2158, a Past President and member of the So Lewis Housing Dev Corp of Port Leyden, Masonic Lodge, F & A.M., member of the Dewey Chapter O.E.S. He was a Past Patron, and Past District Deputy Lecturer of the Lewis Oneida District. He greatly enjoyed hunting, was a member of the Silver Creek Hunting Club, Moose River Fish and Game Club, and a past member of the Miller Brook Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Brantingham Golf Club. For several years he was the Sexton of the Port Leyden Cemetery Assoc. His greatest pride and enjoyment in his life was his wife, Barbara, and his children, and more recently going to school events to watch his grandchildren play in sports. He had also made several hunting trips to the western United States and Canada. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, one daughter, Lyn ; one son, Alan, six granddaughters, and one grandson, one brother, Earl ; three sisters, Ann, Joni and Jean. Relatives and friends attended a service in his memory Rev. Mudge, Pastor, officiated. A spring interment will be in the Port Leyden Cemetery.

Arthur and Barbara Bartlett Scouten of Port Leyden celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at a dinner given by their children.
They were married February 7, 1953, at the Forest Presbyterian Church Manse, Lyons Falls, by Rev. John H. Hatt
Arthur is a control technician at Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper and is mayor of the Village of Port Leyden. Barbara is retired from the Port Leyden Branch of the former St. Lawrence National Bank and now volunteers her time in surrounding communities.
The Scoutens have two children, Mrs. Lyn Cyr and Alan Scouten, both of Port Leyden. The Scoutens have seven grandchildren.

Miss Hope Ann Teal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Teal, Lyons Falls, became the bride of Alan Dale Scouten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Scouten, Port Leyden, on Saturday, September 27.
The ceremony was performed at Saint John's Catholic Church, Lyons Falls at 11 o’clock. Father Andrew R. Mulvaney officiated the double ring ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted down the aisle by her father.
Mrs. Pamela Hoag. Lowville, friend of the bride was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Donna Teal, sister of the bride, Lyn Cyr, sister of the groom, Judy May, friend of the bride, and Jody Loascher, cousin of the groom. The flower girl was Jill Cyr, neice of the groom.
Paul Cyr. brother in law of the groom, was bestman. Ushers were Bobby and Danny Teal, both brothers of the bride, Pete Smith and Russell Battles, both friends of the groom. Ringbearer was Chad Johnson, cousin of the bride.
Organist was Mimi Bartelotte and soloist was Bob Helth.
After a reception at the Alpine in Constableville, the couple left for a trip to the Pocono’s in Pennsylvania.
The bride is a 1977 graduate of South Lewis Central School and the Lewis County BOCES, Practical Nursing program. She is employed at Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville.
The groom is a 1974 graduate of South Lewis Central School and a 1978 graduate of Paul Smith’s College. He is employed at the D.E.C. office, Dadville.
The couple reside in Port Leyden.
