A LOVER'S MAD ACT
JOHNSTOWN, July 3.—Israel Wollinski of this village has been desperately in love with Miss Cora B. Jeffers, daughter of Robert Jeffers, a well-to-do farmer living about a mile and a half west of-the village: His advances have been discouraged, but he still persisted in his suit. Last evening Miss Jeffers drove to town with Miss Jennie Stewart. While they were returning, Wollinski overtook them at the old fort and asked Miss Jeffers to ride. She refused and started toward home. He overtook the girls near the farm of Nicholas Veghte, and they drove into Mr. Veghte's yard to get rid of him. After he had passed they started to go home by a different route, but he overtook them near Eugene Miller's house, and drove across the road in front of them, so that they could not pass. He then got out of his buggy: and insisted that Miss Jeffers should go with him. She refused again and he drew two revolvers from his pocket and said if she would not go with him he would take her life, and began firing. The girls jumped from the carriage and ran. He followed and fired three or four times. He then stopped and putting the pistol to the right side of his head fired. The ball came out the left eye, destroying it. It is thought that he may recover, but will be blind. Miss Jeffers was hot thro’ both hands and in the back and breast, and her injuries are thought to be probably fatal.

The Evening star, Washington D. C., Monday, June 13, 1887
KILLED BY A REJECTED LOVERS SHOT – Two years ago Cora B. Jeffers, the pretty daughter of a farmer of Johnstown, N.Y., was shot by Israel Wolinski, then a jeweler in that place. Interest in the affair is renewed by the young lady’s death Saturday from the effects of the shooting. Wolinski shot Miss Jeffers because he refused to encourage his matrimonial advances. They were approaching the young lady’s home on a Sunday when Wolinski, who had been drinking, drew a revolver from his pocket and fired two shots at the young lady. Only one shot took effect. Miss Jeffers was greatly shocked and lay as though dead. Wolinski shot himself in the eye and the ball was extracted from the roof of his mouth. He is totally blind.

Elizabeth Putnam

 - Obituary (The Fulton County Republica, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Thursday, June 22, 1899)
A gloom of sadness came over a large circle of friends and relatives Wednesday, June 14, when it was learned that Mrs. Aaron Getman of 304 South Perry street, had departed this life. The deceased had been in poor health during the past winter, having been attacked with Bright's disease, but was not confined to her bed until about one week ago. From that time she failed very rapidly, medical treatment which had heretofore revived her proving of no avail and she sank peacefully away. Mrs. Getman was born at Keck Center, May 15, 1848, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Putman. She lived at the place of her birth during her early life and was married there to Aaron J. Getman on March 26, 1888, after which they removed to Ephratah. About nine years ago the members of the family came to this city, and during that time they have made many warm friends who will mourn the loss of Mrs. Getman very deeply. In church work she took an active interest, being a member of the Presbyterian church, and in which capacity she was ever ready to do her part and did much toward advancing the cause of Christ. It is in the home, though, that she will be missed to the greatest extent, for her devotion to her family was very marked.
The following survivors remain to mourn her loss: her husband. Aaron J. Getman. two sons. William J. Getman and Cornelius Getman, and one daughter, Eva Getman, who reside in this city, and another daughter, Mrs. Fred Muddle of Gloyersvllle, also one brother, Eugene Putman of Sharon Springs. The funeral services were held, at the house-on Saturday at; 11 o'clock a. m., Rev. J. H. France, D. D, officiating. The interment., was
made at Ephratah.

Delia E Duesler

 - Newspaper Article (The Argus, Albany, NY, Monday, January 16, 1893)
The Manufacturers and Merchants’ bank, of Gloversville, paid a draft for $500 to the wrong party a few days ago. The bank secured the services of Chief Taylor and Under Sheriff Mickle to find the woman who presented tbe draft at the bank, and her female identifier. The draft was intended for Miss Adelia German, who lives with her sister, Mrs. John B. Pool, but it fell into the hands of Mrs. Delia Getman, who boarded at No. 147 Bleecker street with her parents. Mrs. Getman went to housekeeping a few da ys ago. The officers located her and succeeded in obtaining a specimen of her signature. It was found similar to that on the draft. Friday she was arrested. She pleaded not guilty before the recorder, though Cashier Stetson identified her as the one who cashed the draft. She was remanded to jail without bail and will be examined this morning.
Mrs. Getman's story is that she met a woman on a train the other day and discovered that her name was Adelia Getman, and that she was a second cousin of her divorced husband. Adelia German No. 2 was invited to visit Mrs. Getman. While there she received the letter containing the draft, drew the money and disappeared. Mrs. Getman says Adelia No. 2 resides somewhere in the western part of the State.
