Hommel, 65, of Washington Ave. Ext., died Wednesdayt, Jan. 14 at the Kingston Hospital. born Aug. 6, 1949 in Saugerties she was the daughter of th elate Roger and Ida Sweet Ackerman. A lifetime area resident she had previously worked at Ferroxcube for many years. Survivors include her husband Rolland, teo sons, Daryl and Darrin Hommel. all of Saugerties, and granddaughter Brittany Ruskie. Her funeral service will be 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., cor. of John and Lafayette Sts. Saugerties. Friends will be received on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. Inurment will be at a later date in the Mt. View Cemetery.

The marriage of Miss Rose Marie Estes and Charles A. Nauman was solemnized April 8 at 2 a.m. at the Sloansville Baptist Church, Sloansville. In the presence of the Immediate families.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Estes of Sprakers and the bridegroom is the son of Rev. Carl Nauman of Schenectady. Rev. Mr. Nauman assisted Rev. Bruce S. Pray, minister of the Howard Union Church in Hornell, in the wedding ceremony.
Mrs. Nauman wore a gown fashoned with a chantilly lace bodice and skirt of matching lace and nylon net. the bateau neckline was edged with seed pearls and sequins. She also wore a headpiece of pears with a fingertip veil. Her bouquet was of pink carnations and ivy.
She was attended by her sister, Miss Kathryn Estes, who wore an orchid nylon organdy gown with fitted bodice and full skirt. Her flowers were carnations and orchid sweetpeas.
The groom was attended by his brother Calvin Nauman, and Robert Estes, the bride's brother served as usher.
Organist for the wedding was Mrs. Philip Zeh, Austin Nauman, brother of the groom, sang two selections.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the Sloansville Baptist Church hall.
The bride gradusted from Canajoharie Central school and has been employed as secretary at the Nyack Missionary College.
Mr. Nauman attended Balston Spa high school and is working at the Watervliet Arsenal.

Vernon E. Estes, age 87, died on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Schuyler Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on August 12, 1934, in Root, NY to parents Harold and Mary (Crockett) Estes.
After graduation from Canajoharie High School, Vernon enlisted into the United States Army, and served until his honorable discharge in 1958. He subsequently completed his bachelor's degree at the college of Saint Rose in Albany. Later he worked at General Electric as an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer until his retirement in 1990.
Vernon enjoyed woodworking, golfing, bowling, and automobile restoration. He was a member of St. Anthony's church, Automobiles of the Upper Hudson Valley (AUHV), and the senior bowling league at Boulevard Bowl.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Estes; children, Vernon H. Estes, Elaine Estes and Stephen (Danielle) Estes; grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin, Caitlin, Nicolas, Sarah, Gabrielle Nathan, and Jackson; and siblings, Harold Estes, Kathryn Smith, Philip Estes.
Along with his parents, Vernon is predeceased by his sister Rosemary Ring and brother Robert Estes.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Saint Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady NY.

Joan Estes, age 85, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2022, at Baptist Health Nursing Center.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1937, in Scranton, and was the daughter of the late Harold and Lena (Benginia) Rhule. Upon graduation from Scranton Technical High School in Pennsylvania, Joan went on to work at General Electric. Here, she met the love of her life, Vernon Estes, and the two were married in 1961. Soon after, Joan and Vernon started a family and she settled into her new role as a mother and homemaker.
Joan enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and was an avid reader. She liked to quilt and was also an amazing cook. Joan and her husband cherished their time together and the memories of their trips throughout the United States. Joan was also an activemember of St. Anthony's Parish in Schenectady, New York, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Bereavement Committee, and participated in numerous church events.
Joan is survived by her loving children, Vernon H. Estes, Elaine Estes and Stephen (Danielle) Estes; wonderful grandchildren, Zachary (Amy), Benjamin, Caitlin, Nicholas, Sarah, Gabrielle Nathan and Jackson.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon E. Estes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, New York. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Townley Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, New York.

The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Fanning.
The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her father, wore a white gown of silk organza with a lace bodice and a bustle back. Her fingertip veil accompanied a crown of lace and pearls and she carried a bouquet of white sweetheart roses.
Miss Judy Armen, Scranton. Pa., cousin of the bride, was maid of honor, wearing a floor length pink gown of silk organza. She had a picture hat of the same material and carrieda bouquet of feathered white carnations.
Leonard Van Schaick of Randall was the best man. Ushers were; Harold Estes Jr. Sprakers brother of the bridegroom and Vincent
Priorielli. cousin of the bride.
The bride's mother wore a street length hedge green dress with
matching accessories and a white orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wa attired in a street length beige dress with harmonizing accessories and a white orchid corsage.
After the ceremony, a reception was held at 4:30 at eh Elks Club in Patterson, N.J. with approximately 100 attending.
The bride was graduated from Scranton Technical High School and is employed as secteraty for General Electric Co. in Patterson, N. J.
The bridegroom was graduated from Canajoharie High School and took a General Electric apprentice course at Schenectady.
For a motor trip west, the bride wore a street length pink dress with matching accessories.

Robert A. Estes, 70, of Currytown Road, Sprakers passed away Sunday evening at home with his loving family by his side.
Born on October 31, 1935 he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Crockett Estes. He was a lifelong resident and attended local schools.
On February 13, 1953, at the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean Conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After three years of service, he was honorably discharged on November 2, 1956.
Bob was employed for over 35 years for Planters-Lifesavers Company, in the maintenance department. He was a member of the 25 Year Club, for Lifesavers, where he served on the Planning Committee. He was also a member of the Randall Christian Church, and a former member and past president of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
On May 10, 1958 he was united in marriage to the former Rosetta Cook; that loving union lasted for 47 years.
His loving family includes, his wife; two sons, Allen Estes and his wife Barbara Jo of Vail Mills, New York and Tom Estes of Randall, New York; two sisters, Rose Marie Ring and her husband Richard of Rotterdam, New York, and Kathy Smith and her husband Douglass of Sprakers, New York; three brothers, Vernon Estes and his wife Joan of Clifton Park, New York, Harold Estes and his wife Shirley of St. Johnsville, New York, and Phil Estes and his wife Debbie of Palm Bay, Florida; two grandchildren, Christian Weaver of Washington, D.C., and Michelle Barde of Albany, New York; one great uncle, Phil Estes and his wife Charlotte of Sloansville, New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment will take place in the Fordsbush Cemetery with full military honors.

Mrs. Rosetta "Rose" Cook Estes, of Currytown Road, Sprakers was called to her eternal home on Friday, February 26, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was 76.
A lifelong area resident, she attended local schools and worked for Coleco in Amsterdam and Kasson & Keller in Fonda until her retirement. Rose was an angel on earth, and loved by everyone she touched. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
On May 10, 1958 she was united in marriage to Robert A. Estes. That loving union lasted for 47 years until his passing on April 23, 2006. She was also predeceased by her son, Allen in 2014; and her siblings, Sam Cook, William Cook, Margaret Wolowicz and Charles "Peanut" Cook.
Her loving family includes her son Tom Estes of Randall, NY; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo of Vail Mills, NY; three grandchildren, Christian Weaver of Alexandria, VA, Brian (Lisa) Barde of Pittsfield, MA, Michelle (Kevin) Sanford of Davenport, FL; great grandchildren Brandon, Logan, and Audra Mary; her siblings, Shirley Coleman of Fort Plain, NY, Peter Cook and his wife Donna of Fort Plain, NY, Beverly Staves of Little Falls, NY; her beloved cat, Fluffy; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Graveside Service of Remembrance will take place at the Fordsbush Cemetery.

Allen R. Estes, 55 of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Little Falls, NY on January 10, 1959, he is the son of the late Robert A. Estes and Rose Cook Estes.
Allen was raised in Randall, NY and is a graduate of the Fonda Fultonville School. A member of Laborer’s Local 157, he worked for several years for Syrstone Inc. in Sprakers. Allen enjoyed Nascar, camping, and John Deere equipment. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Jo Pomakoy Estes, mother Rose Estes of Randall, Brother Tom Estes of Randall, son Christian Weaver of Alexandria, VA, step son Brian (Lisa) Barde of Pittsfield, MA and step daughter Michelle (Kevin) Sanford of Davenport, FL; Beloved grandchildren Brandon and Logan Barde and Audra Mary Sanford. He is also survived by sister in law, Mary (Robert) Derocher and niece Chloe Derocher. Allen also leaves behind his beloved K-9 companion Molly.

Miss Shirley J. Gifford, daughter of Claude Gifford of 351 West Fulton Street and the late Mrs. Myrtle Gifford, became the bride of Harold G. Estes Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Estes Sr. of Sprakers, at 3 Sunday afternoon at Fremont Street Methodist Church.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. Luther A. Patton, pastor. Mrs. John Huizing, organist, played selections, and Mrs. John DeLaFleur, sister of the bride, was soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her brother-in-law, John DeLaFleur, wore a white floor-length gown of Chantilly lace with a Sabrina neckline and bouffant skirt. Her fingertip French illusion veil was attached to a tiara crown of miniature pearls and crystal beads, and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and white carnations.
Miss Mary M. Bryant was maid of honor She was attired in a street-length turquoise gown of lace and nylon tulle, and matching capulet and face veil. Miss Lorraine G. DeLaFleur, niece of the bride, was a bridesmaid. She wore a yellow gown similar in style to that worn by the maid of honor.
Raymond Putman of Sprakers was best man. Ushers were Vernon Gifford and Charles Gifford, both of Johnstown, and Clark Gifford of Gloversville.
The bride was graduated in 1957 from Gloversville High School, and is employed by General Telephone Company of Upstate New York at the Johnstown office.
The bridegroom attended Canajoharie Central School and is employed at the Palatine Dyeing Company in St. Johnsville.
After returning from a wedding trip to Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Estes will make their home in Canajoharie.
Out of town guests attended the wedding from Sprakers, Sloansville, Rural Grove, Canajoharie, Johnstown, Glens Falls, Binghamton, Mayfield, Atlanta, Ga., Jersey City, N.J., and New London, Conn.

David Aaron VanDerwerken, 77, of Lincolnton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Atrium Health – Lincoln.
Born July 3, 1943, in Schoharie County, N.Y., he was the son of the late Donald Edgar VanDerwerken and Virginia Ottman VanDerwerken. He was also preceded by his only sibling, Donald Edgar VanDerwerken Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Patricia M. VanDerwerken; daughter, Colleen Lodge (Jeff) of Scotia, N.Y.; sons, Kenneth D. VanDerwerken (Kari) of Charlotte, and Todd VanDerwerken (Denise) of Cobleskill, N.Y.; grandchildren, Sara Evans (Michael) of West Jefferson, Zack Schaffer (Karen), of Middleburg, N.Y., Michelle VanDerwerken of Charlotte, Kenneth J. VanDerwerken of Charlotte, Mitchell VanDerwerken, Cobleskill, N.Y. and Alec VanDerwerken, Cobleskill, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Danny, Harmony and Leo of Middleburg, N.Y.
David was a graduate of Cobleskill Central School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1962 to 1964. Following his years of service, David returned to his hometown of Cobleskill, N.Y., and worked at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. in their turbine division. David also worked as a truck driver for Beacon Feeds in Central Bridge, N.Y., and an artificial inseminator in Unadilla, N.Y. David again returned to Cobleskill, N.Y., and worked until retirement as an independent contractor providing trucking, paving and handyman services. He was also a school bus driver for the Cobleskill Central School system.
David was a true believer in giving back to the community and was involved in many volunteer activities, including scouts, sports booster club, the American Legion, and his beloved ELKS Lodge. David was a member of the ELKS for over 40 years and served in every officer role, multiple times, including the Exalted Ruler three times. He was also deeply honored to serve as Vice President of the New York State ELKS.
Upon retiring, David moved with his wife to Lincolnton, where he became an active and devoted member of the McKendree United Methodist Church. He also transferred his ELKS membership from Cobleskill to Newton, and brought his years of experience and sense of humor to the brothers and sisters of his new home lodge.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 1PM to 3PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Elks Lodge, 152 Legion Drive, Cobleskill, where an Elks service will be held at 2PM. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Henry F. Bray 74, of VanDerwerken Road, died Sunday September 18th at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a brief illness.
Mr. Bray was born September 1, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey, a son of Harry and Alma (VanDerwerken) Bray. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in New Jersey and later received a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Newark College in 1964. Henry was a Civil Engineer retiring from NYS DOT in 2001 and previously had worked for Schoharie County Department of Public Works and the Amsterdam Urban Renewal Agency. After his retirement, Henry and Joan enjoyed extensive traveling both by land and sea and playing golf. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, was a trustee and Secretary/Treasurer of the Sloansville Valley Cemetery and was a former member at the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Joan L. (Rockwell) Bray whom he married November 11, 1972, his daughter Sara Bray (Larry Miller) of Kirkland, Washington, his granddaughter Brianna Burdell, two brothers; George Bray of Alworth, Georgia and Peter Bray of Wayne, New Jersey along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Sloansville Valley Cemetery, St. Rte 30A, Sloansville. There will be no calling hours.

Joan L. Bray, 78 of VanDerwerken Rd. in Central Bridge passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 in the comfort of her home with family by her side.
Joan was born February 29, 1944 in Schenectady, NY a daughter to Elmer Rockwell and Myrtle (Nethaway) Rockwell.
She graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1962 and afterwards, started working for the Department of Transportation in Albany, retiring in 2001.
Joan was an active member of her community as past president of the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club and a member of the Central Bridge Rebekah Lodge.
She attended the Zion Lutheran Church in Cobleskill and in her spare time, enjoyed playing golf, traveling and going on cruises.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara Bray of Kirkland, WA, granddaughter, Brianna Burdell of Seattle, WA, two brothers, Elmer Rockwell of Cobleskill and Frank Rockwell of Edgewater, FL and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by husband, Henry Bray, and brother and sisters, Willie Rockwell, Donna Marvin, Katherine Sanford, Mildred Borst, Gwendolyn Franco, Eleanor Cox and Beatrice Spaulding.
A graveside service will be held at the Sloansville Valley Cemetery.

"He lived on Judson St. in Canton. In his will, he stated that his wife had abandoned him and the children and made no provision for her. She filed a waiver of right from Schenectady, NY. He lists himself as a "widower" in 1920. Canton Advertiser, 1951 Channing A. Farmer of Pioneer Stock; a Graduate of St. Lawrence University, Upwards of Forty Years in County Clerk's Office. Channing A. Farmer, a member of one of the old early Farmer families of the town and village of Canton died at 4 Friday afternoon at the Peterson Nursing Home, State Street, this village after a critical illness. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the home, 28 Judson St., the Rev. Ernest E. Wells, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating, Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery, Canton. He was born on the Farmer farm, Olin Settlement, Town of Canton, August 24, 1880, a son of Herbert M. and Hannah Tallman Farmer. His early life was spent in the section where he was born. He attended the Olin Settlement School and later attended Canton High School, graduating therefrom in the late nineties. He entered St. Lawrence University and completed the four-year course, graduating in the class of 1904. He was a member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. While in high school and college, he was one of the outstanding athletes, in running and field sports, football and basketball. Following his graduation from college he took a position in the County Clerk's office and continued in that office up to September last, when he tendered his resignation. He was for many years of this long service of upwards of forty years, index clerk. The late Charles N. Reynolds, Search clerk and Deputy County Clerk for years used to say that as index clerk, Chan Farmer seemed to be error proof. He could not remember when papers passing through Farmer's hand were subject to criticism. His mother, Hannah Tallman was a daughter of the Tallman family who have resided in the large brick house on the Tallman farm on the Gouverneur road, near this village of whom a brother of his mother, Fred T. Tallman, is still living on the farm, coming there when Tallman moved from the Black Lake region to what was known as the Bowman [Boorman] farm in 1876. The Farmers were of the strong, vigorous early settlers of Canton. his grandfather, Albert Farmer, owned much land in the Olin settlement, and removed to this village sixty years ago or more, occupying the large home on Elm St. Herbert M. Farmer, his father, better known as "Mert" Farmer, was active in political and fraternal organizations through most of his life. He was elected Sheriff of St. Lawrence Co., about a third of a century ago and gave good service and he was long connected as deputy or other official of the sheriff's office before and after he served as sheriff. Channing farmer was twice married, his first marriage to Miss Florence Abbey, who died in 1917. To this marriage was born a daughter, Miss Marjorie Farmer, who graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1933. She has been a teacher in the Canton Village Schools for some years. he contracted a second marriage in 1921 with Fern Adams of Canton who survives. There are surviving the wife, three daughters, the Misses Marjorie and Patricia Farmer of Canton and Mrs. Albert Gorrow of Ogdensburg; three sons, Donald of Schenectady; Robert of Jersey City, NJ; Richard of Canton. There are also two grandsons. "
