Dolgeville, Sept. 5 - A son was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Carter Borst.
- Death Announcement (Fort Plain Standard, NY, Thursday, March 4, 1926)
Franklin Borst 14, was accidentally shot and killed at a boys' camp on the Lyons farm a short distance west of Dolgeville, Sunday afternoon. The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carter Borst. He and three other boys had gone to the camp for the purpose of spending the afternoon, the others being his brother, Donald, George Reinhardt and Carl Viel. They had no gun with them.
Two other lads stopped at the camp. They were Bowen Arnold and Willard Sanderson. Arnold had a .22 calibre rifle with him, which he stood against the camp. Carl Viel took the rife. According to the story told by the boys, Arnold said he did not knoe wether the gun was loaded or not, but told the others not to touch the action, While handling the weapon, Veil in some way discharged it hitting Franklin Borst and the bullet entered his body under the left arm pit, presumably seveing a vital artary and causing internal hemorrages, death being almost instantenous.
The otehjr boys did not at the time realize the fatal nature of the wound. The improvised a carrying arrangement with skiis and carried Franklin to the highway some distance away and he was taken to Colgeville on a sleigh by Waldo Lyons.
Franklin was taken to the office of Dr. Barney and Dr. Strobel was summoned. Coroner Smith of Little Falls was notified.
The deceased is survived by his parents and two brothers, donald and Kendrick. He was a pupil in the first year class of the local schools.
