Robert was born the second child to George Egbert and Dorothy Lizetta Meyers McGilvra on June 9, 1935 in Baraboo, Sauk, Wisconsin. He joined a brother Phillip Junior McGilvra who was three at the time. His parents divorced when he was 8 and his mother remarried and went to Oregon with her 2nd husband and the boys. Phillip ran away on the way to Oregon and made it back to Wisconsin and his father. Robert was removed from the home in Oregon some time later because of the abusive 2nd husband and was put in a foster home on a dairy farm in Salem, Oregon. He managed to go back to his dad in his later teen years, but because the step-mother was not happy with having the boys his dad put him into the Navy at 17, as soon as he was old enough to join. He spent his youth feeling unwanted and abandoned and did not ajust to military life so was discharged after 18 months. He joined and rode in the Rodeo for a short time and then ended up back in Oregon.
During his riding days they called him "Tex" because his name was hard to announce and that stuck so he went by that name until his father passed away and then became "Mack".
At age 21 he met, courted and on August 25, 1956 married Lolita Hogg, as they had fallen madly in love. The marriage was performed in the home of her parents in Portland, Oregon. This union brought about the birth of three children, Charlamae Elaine, Wade Alan and Kimberly Irene McGilvra. He was badly injured on the job in 1960 and fought cronic pain and disability the remainder of his life. The marriage ended in divorce in November 1968. He then married his second wife Alice Vigil and had a third daughter Colleen McGilvra in 1970. That marriage ended in divorce after 8 years and Robert married a third wife Margaret Joan Alnutt which also ended in divorce after 17 years. He then went to California for a visit with a friend Sandra and ended up buying a trailer in Hemet, California where he remained and several years later passed away.
Robert was an extremely energetic and active person who could not stay still and had to be doing something every waking hour. He had multiple hobbies and was a fun loving and fun person to be around but could totally wear you out. He fished, hunted, scubba dived, kayaked, hydroplane raced, re-designed and raced cars, built and raced go-carts, and was constantly working with some hobby. When he passed away he was in the process of rebuilding an amphibion vehicle.
The injury he received before he was 25 unfortunately caused him unbearable pain the rest of his life. The stress of which caused him other health problems and he went through at least two heart bypass surgeries and multiple other health issues.
He passed away at the age of 71 with his children, the third wife Margaret and his friend Sandra present. He is survived by his four children, 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren with one due, making seven, and born one month later, a girl named Mackenzie, IE: Mack, in his memory.
UPDATE: as of December 29, 2010 he now has acquired a total of 15 greatgrandchildren of direct lineage. If you include all brought into the family through marriages there are a total of twenty-three.
