Robert Dayton Watson, 92, of Presbyterian Home, North Oaks, died Jan. 6, 2009.
He was born July 1, 1916, in Milaca and grew up in Farmington. Bob was an Eagle Scout, a star athlete and the Minnesota state champion in the 440-yard dash (51.4 seconds), a record which he held for decades.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota and serving as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, Bob worked for Pillsbury from 1946 to 1970, rising to corporate vice president of personnel and organization. He subsequently worked for many years with a company he co-founded, Balch and Watson, an executive search agency.
Bob came from a small town and loved to travel the world, working in Sri Lanka and Jakarta.
In 2003, he started the Robert Watson scholarship, for high school students who demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Mary Helen Kriechbaum Watson.
He is survived by wife, Loranda McNulty Watson; sons, John (Janet) and Steven Watson; stepchildren, Craig (Betsy) McNulty, Charlotte (Bill) Reed, and Loranda (Paul) McLeete; one grandson and six step-grandchildren.
A reception in Bob’s honor was held Jan. 14 at the Lafayette Club, Minnetonka Beach. Memorials are preferred to Farmington Area Education Foundation, Robert Watson Scholarship, P.O. Box 296, Farmington, MN 55024
