Ruth Joslin, 89, of Harrisville, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Lincoln Haven Health Center.
She was born May 26, 1914, in Lapeer County to Walter and Lily (Burley) Patrick. She married Guy Allen Joslin on April 17, 1935.
She had two sisters, Virginia and Verda June. Her father died when she was 4 years old and her baby sister, Verda June, died 18 months later. Her mother lost her eyesight shortly thereafter. Those were tough years for her family, since it was before assistance programs were available. She helped her family by picking and selling strawberries for her uncle at age 4, and had been an extremely hard worker all of her life. She loved to learn and took her education seriously. After graduating from Lapeer County Normal, she taught school for one year. She later served on the local school board. She and her husband lived on their farm in Columbiaville. She raised a large garden, picked berries, butchered chickens and canned anything she could. In 1954, they moved to Lincoln, where they purchased the Lincoln Livestock Auction Yards. They purchased a farm in Killmaster, which had been home to them ever since. She operated the office and the restaurant portions of the Stockyards. She also was Gustin Township treasurer for several years and worked on election boards. After retirement, she and Guy enjoyed neighborhood card parties, going to garage sales and auctions, and having friends and family over for meals.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Dean) Hosner of Hillman, Walter (Valerie) Joslin of Harrisville, Elaine (Mohammed Abd El Salam) of Madison Heights and Delores (Raymond W.) Chase of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, on April 3, 2003; parents and sisters, Verda June and Virginia Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Junior Market Livestock Club, 1985 Adams Road, Glennie, MI, or the charity of your choice.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Dec. 16) at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. The Rev. Richard Karsen Sr. officiated. Burial was in Twin Lakes Cemetery, Lincoln.

Melvin D. Thompson
Melvin Donald Thompson, 74, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Germantown, Md. He was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Royal Oak.
Mr. Thompson was a 1948 graduate of Royal Oak High School.
Surviving are his lifelong companion, Eva Krebs; brother, Harry Thompson of Clarkston; nieces, Tamara Del Valle of New Hampshire, and Heather Houk of Arizona; nephew, Richard Thompson of California; and six cousins of the Pettit family of Michigan.
Service, today, Devol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deerpark Drive, Gaithersburg, Md.; burial, All Souls Cemetery, Germantown.
