  Abelene - Leland "Lee" Madison, 76, of Abilene, took his last flight to heaven on Monday, March 24, 2008, after a long and hard fought battle, in a local hospital. Friends of the family may visit on Friday, March 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services, with Mr. Jerry Schwalb officiating, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park at the Field of Honor.
  On October 28, 1931, Lee was born in Lismore, Minnesota to Raleigh Madison and Rhoda (Spaulding) Madison. He graduated from High School in Adrian, Minnesota in 1949. He then attended Washington Junior College where he graduated in 1951. Lee served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1954. Following his service in the Army, Lee attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated in 1957 with a degree in aeronautical engineering and then trained as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He flew his first tour in Southeast Asia in 1966. He flew his first tour in Southeast Asia in 1966. He flew 198 combat missions in the B57 Canberra. In 1971, Lee was transferred to Dyess Air Force Base. While stationed at Dyess, he flew the B52 in 202 combat missions, also in Southeast Asia. He flew a total of 400 combat missions while serving in the USAF. He retired as Base Dyess Air Force Base Operations Officer on February 28, 1978. Lee served for 21 years as a Combat Pilot. Among his many decorations, Lee received five Distinguished Flying Crosses and 25 Air Medals.
  After retirement, Lee was employed by Abilene Aero as a flight instructor and later ran the Flight School until his retirement in 1992. He taught many Dyess Airmen and local residents to fly small private aircraft.
  Lee married "Sam" (Margaret Rosemarie Elizabeth Hermenau) on October 9, 1963 in Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio. Lee's greatest loves in life, besides "Sam" and his dog Twister, were flying, woodcarving, painting, and building things with his own hands.
  Preceding Lee in death were his parents, five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Sam" Madison, of Abilene; one son, David Madison and his wife Sarah, of St. Paul Minnesota; two daughters, Ann Madison Van Tassel and her husband Keith, of Houston, and Kathryn Elizabeth Zaengle and her husband Fred, of Warminster, Pennsylvania; his brother-in-law Wolf Dietrich Hermenau and his wife Karin of Munich Germany; nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Fred Elliott, Tom Comella, Don McKee, Don Swift, David Hauschild, Captain Sid Stegall, Dough Eichorst, and Keith Van Tassell will serve as honorary pallbearers. Lee will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.
  Memorials may be made in honor of Lee Madison to the Taylor Jones Humane Society, 3811 North 1st, Abilene, Texas 79603; or to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.

  Neenah, Wis.
  Victor De Vere Pound, 84, of Neenah, Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah. He was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Scranton, Iowa, to N. W. Pound and Beatrice Cronwell Pound.
   He had also lived in Scranton, Iowa. He married Margy Cameron on June 15, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He co-owned Pound Construction Co. for many years.
   He was preceded in death by two daughters, Shelley and Margo; and a sister, Mignon.
   Survivors include his wife, Margy Pound; a son and daughter-in-law, Victor D. Pound and Inger Pound; a daughter, Pamela D. Pemble of Rogers, Ark.; a brother and sister-inlaw, Alan Pound and Irene Pound; a sister-in-law, Ferne Taylor; nine grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Scranton, Iowa. Arrangements are by Kessler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Neenah.

  Verlin Wimp, 91, Bloomfield
  BLOOMFIELD - Verlin L. Wimp, age 91 of Bloomfield died June 10, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
   He was born May 15, 1915 in Troy, Iowa to Ernest A. and Cora Elizabeth Lough Wimp. He married Elaine L. Spaulding September 2, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 2, 2003. He graduated from Milton High School in 1933 and was a 1937 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College. He had been a salesman of cars, RV?s and business supplies. He was a member of the First Federated Church in Des Moines, Iowa, a 60 year member of Franklin Lodge #14 AF & AM in Bloomfield and Ottumwa Lodge #16 AF & AM, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bloomfield and Ottumwa and was an assistant Boy Scout leader.
  He is survived by 2 sons, James Wimp of Ackworth, Iowa and Larry Wimp of Bloomfield, Iowa; 3 grandsons and a brother, Vester Wimp of Bloomfield, Iowa.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday June 13, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Jack Jackson officiating.
   Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday with Masonic services by Ottumwa Lodge #16 at 6:30 p.m., followed by family visitation until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be directed to www.waglerfuneralhome.com.

   BERNARD SWEENEY DIES, AFTON
   Bernard Sweeney, 69, of rural Afton, passed away Thursday, July 5, 1990, at Mercy Hospital in Corning.
   He was born Sept. 17, 1920 at Farhamville, the son of Walter Raleigh and Belva Marquis Sweeney. On Feb. 1, 1942, he married Virginia Wohllaib in Grant City, Mo. He had lived in the Afton area since 1938.
   Mr. Sweeney was a county assessor for more than 30 years, was a farmer and salesman for Moorman Feed, making many longtime friendships with the farmers he called upon. He retired in 1982. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Afton and the Afton Lodge No. A.F. and A.M.
   He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Afton; three daughters, Connie and husband Loren Edsall of Creston, Marsha Edsall of Corning and Linda Sweeney of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ann Sweeney of Marshalltown; and a nephew, Shawn Sweeney of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clifton, and sister, Luetta.
   Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Keating-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home in Creston with the Rev. John Tunnicliff, pastor of the Afton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton.
   Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Afton.
