Mr. and Mrs, Rozelle Dygert, Nelliston, observed their 38th wedding anniversary Friday. Dygert and the former Velma Kretser were married March 26, 1927 by Rev. Ray Seeley in the Grace Congregational Church of St. Johnsville.
Dygert has been a life long member of the Reformed Church of Fort Plain and Mrs. Dygert became a member last Sunday.
Mre. Dygert is a practical nurse. Dygert, formerly a farmer is retired because of ill health. The couple has two children, Mrs. Marilyn Day Jordan and Robert Dygert, Nelliston. There are four grandchildren.
The couple celebrated the anniversary Sunday by having dinner in Herkimer.

Rozelle Dygert, 70, of Nelliston, died Thursday in his home on E. Main St. after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1901 in Nelliston, the son of the late Edward and Esther Smith Dygert.
He was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, and was a dairy farmer all his life until his retirement in 1964.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Selma (sic) Kretser Dygert whom he married March 26, 1927 in St. Johnsville; a son, Robert of Nelliston; a daughter, Mrs. Willis Day of Jordan, N.Y.; a
brother, Edward of Johnstown; five sisters, Miss Evelyn Dygert, Miss Hazel Dygert, and Mrs. Harriet Wagner, all of Nelliston, Mrs. Freeman Carpenter of Mohawk and Mrs. Corliss Smith of Fort Plain; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home in Fort Plain, with the Rev. Chester Chilton of E. Greensbush, former Fort Plain pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in Fort Plain Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

FORT PLAIN Oct. 4 - Miss Norma Lucy Coppi, Fort Plain, daughter of Vito Coppi. 719 Callen Street, Vacaville, Calif., became the bride of Robert C. Dygert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rozelle Dygert, Nelllston. af 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon In the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Chester C. Chilton. The church was decorated with baskets of pompons, white gladioli, white carnations, palms and white bows on aisles.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white slipper satin gown with Portia neckline and full skirt graduating into a long train, which was caught up with hearts of seed pearls. Her double imported knee-length illusion veil was edged with Chantilly lace and caught to a crown of seed pearl hearts. She carried a prayer book with mother of pearl cover, and a white orchid with purple lip and streamers of pink rosebuds.
Mrs. Clyde Hood, organist, played the traditional wedding music, and Mrs. Gladys Kling sang "O Promise Me," "I Love You Truly" and "Because."
The best man Was Glenn Stafford, Fort Plain R. D. 3. and ushers were Willis Day, Nclliston, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Gordon Stafford, Fort Plain.
Miss Gloria Coppi. Buffalo, sister of the bride was maid of honor, wearing a dusty rose faille gown trimmed with marquisette. Her hat was heart-shaped bonnet of the same material. She carried a cojonial bouquet of pink roses.
The bride's other attendants were Mrs. Willis Day, Nelliston, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Genevieve Weiss, Fort Plain R. D. They both wore identical gowns of peacock blue and carried colonial bouquets of yellow roses.
The bridegroom's mother was attired in a royal blue dress. with a corsage of pink roses
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of Mrs. Gladys Kling, 26 Washington Street. When the couple left on a wedding trip to Washington, D. C. and Virginia, the bride Wore, a brown gabardine suit, beige hat, with beige accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.
The bride is a graduate of Fort Plain High School and employed by the Richfield Oil Company of this village. The bridegroom is also a graduate of Fort Plain High School and is connected with his father in the farming business..
Pre-nuptial showers were given the bride by Mrs. Rozelle Dygert, Nelllston. Mrs. Melvln Sitterly, Ilion, Mrs. Gordon Stafford, Mrs. Earl Diefendorf, Fort Plain.
Upon their return from the wedding trip, the couple will reside in Nelliston.

FORT PLAIN- Mrs. Beverly Phillips, 55, of Richfield Springs, died unexpectedly Tuesday at her home.
She was born in St. Johnsville and had resided in the Fort Plain area most of her life. She moved to Richfield Springs last year.
The survivors include her husband, Earl Phillips; a son, Roger L. Phillips of Mendham, N. J.; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Hyney of Fort Plain RD, Mrs. Cathy Suits of Palaine Bridge RD and Mrs. Toni Scutt of Bakersfield, Calif. Two stepdaugnters, Mrs. Robert Cornet and Mrs. Larry Vanch of Richmond, Va., four sisters, Mrs. Oliver Wolcott of St. Johnsville, Mrs. Herbert Anderson of Randall, Mrs. Robert Diefendorf of Canaioharie RD and Mrs. Rozelle Dygert of Fort Plain RD; also five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

ST. JOHNSVILLE — William M. Lee, 61, of 38 Rock St.. Canajoharie, died May 6 in Herkimer Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient one day. He had been in failing health for some time.
Mr. Lee was born in Cold Brook on June 24, 1907, a son of, Fred and Sarah Fox Keeler. He resided for some time in Starkville, moving to Canajoharie only two months ago. He had been a truck driver most of his life.
Survivors include his wife the former Beverly Kretser of St. Johnsville, whom he married on June 14, 1938; two sons. Keith Kretser, Fort Plain, and Roger Lee, Mendahan, N.J.; three daughters, Mrs. MacNair Hyney of Ames; Toni Lee, at home and Mrs. Alan Suits, Canajoharie; also two sisters, Mrs. Florence Herkel, Crofton, Md., and Mrs. George Van Buren, Saugus, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, with the Rev. William Gilpin, pastor of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. The body will be taken to Gardner-Earle Crematorium in Troy for cremation.
Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience.

FORT PLAIN - Earl O. Phillips, 48, of 14 Center Street, was pronounced dead on arrival yesterday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Phillips was reportedly found dead at his home by a stepdaughter, who called police. An autopsy was scheduled and Dr. Nairn Bakash, of Canajoharie, a Montgomery County coroner, withheld a verdict pending a report on the autopsy. An official police source reported the death was apparently of natural causes.
Mr. Phillips was born in Fort Plain on Jan. 15, 1925, a son of John and Mabel Picket Phillips. He had since resided in the Fort Plain area.
Mr. Phillips was a retired employe of the Fort Plain street department, having been a truck driver. He was a veteran of World War 2.
The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Linda Cornett and Mrs. Larry Vana of Richmond, Va., one sister, Mrs. Fayette Heiser of Canajoharie RD; one stepson, Roger Lee of Menham, N. J.
Also three stepdaughters Mrs. Mac Hyney and Mrs. Carlton Scutt of Fort Plain RD; Mrs. Allen Suits of Palatine Bridge RD 1, two uncles, one niece and one nephew.

Oliver J. Wolcott, of 31 Monroe St., St. Johnsville, died late Saturday morning in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center in Utica, where he was admitted Friday evening with a gunshot wound in the head.
St. Johnsville police said the wound was self-inflicted, the bullet entering the victim's head just behind his ear. Police and a physician were called to the Wolcott home at 12:35 p.m. Friday, when Mrs. Wolcott returned home from her duties as an employe of tne St. Johnsville Central School cafeteria, and found her husband lying in bed, critically wounded. He still was clutching a .22 calibre rifle, authorities said.
Mr. Wolcott, about 56, had been in ill health, and for many years had suffered from arthritis. Police said he left no note, and although he had been unable to work for the past couple of weeks had not appeared to be despondent.
He was taken by the St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Little Falls Hospital, and later in the day transferred to St. Luke's Memorial
Mr. Wolcott was born in St. Johnsville, a son of Byron and Maude Jordan Wolcott. He attended St. Johnsville Schools. For 25 years he was employed by the Cherry-Burrel Corp. in Little Falls, and for some years past by the Palatine Dyeing Co. in St. Johnsville.
He attended Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Johnsville.
Mr. Wolcott was married to Winifred Kretser on October 28, 1939, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls.
Surviving, besides, his wife, are one son, Fred Wolcott, St. Johnsville; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Gail) Healy, in New Jersey; two brothers, Donald and Roger Wolcott, both of St. Johnsville; one grandson, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10 0,'clock at the H. C. Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Gilpin, pastor of Grace Church, officiating. Interment will be made in West St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening.

Marriage Notes for Fred Wolcott and JoAnn Sands

NELLISTON - Miss JoAnn Sands, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sands, Nelliston, was united in marriage to Fred B. Wolcott, son of Mrs Oliver Wolcott, St. Johnsville and the late Mr. Oliver Wolcott at 12:30 Sunday afternoon in St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain.
Rev. John J. Sullivan, pastor of that church, performed the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with vases of white orchids and pink carnations. The parents' pew was marked with white satin bows with purple and pink pompons. The relatives' pews were marked with white satin bows.
Miss Mary Healy, Fort Plain, played the traditional wedding music on the organ and selections including "We've Only Just Begun," "Mother at Thy Feet I'm Kneeling," "Ave Maria" and "Somewhere."
The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her father, wore a long white gown of peau de soie designed with a fitted bodice and collar with Chantilly lace accent on her pin-tucked illusion neckline. She had bishop sleeves with lace accents on the cuffs and white beads and sequins. The skirt had motifs of the lace and white beads and an attached and an attached full chapel length train.
She had a headpiece of a forward cup of pearlized buds with white beads and lace. It was attached to a waist length three-tier veil of English illusion. She carried a cascade of white roses, stephanotis and ivy.
Mrs. Janice Zimmerman, Canajoharie, was matron of honor. She wore a long gown of purple and orchid with a silk chiffon bodice, long puffed sleeves with accent of orchid Venice lace and purple pulled through velvet ribbon on her high collar. She had an accent of bib style on her bodice and cuffs and a skirt of purple silk velvet.
She wore a purple velvet bow headpiece to match her gown. She carried a colonial bouquet of purple carnations, white sweetheart roses and orchid streamers.
The bridal attendants included Mrs. Gail Healy, Oakland, N.J., sister of the bridegroom; Miss Cindy Anderson, Randall, cousin of the bridegroom and Miss Denise Richards, St. Johnsville.
They were attired in gowns with a pink top and ruby colored skirt identical to the matron of honor. They carried colonial bouquets of deep maroon carnations, white sweetheart roses and light pink streamers.
Miss Anne Marie Van Nort, Gloversville, niece of the bride, was the miniature bride. She wore a long gown of white. She had a bodice of venice lace, long tapered sleeves with deep cuffs and ruffled edge She had an organza skirt with satin waist belt and bow. Her headpiece was a tiara of buds, crystals and double blusher. She carried a miniature bouquet identical to
the bride's.
Miss Lisa Ciani, Fort Plain, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She was dressed identical to the matron of honor in purple and orchid. She wore a velvet bow and carried a basket of mixed colored carnations.
Robert Healy, Oakland, NJ., was ringbearer carrying a white satin pillow edged in lace. Glen Thompson, Ilion, was the best man.
The ushers were Joseph Pachut, Albert L. Battisti and Bryon Walrath, all of St. Johnsville. Jamie Cater, St. Johnsville, was the junior usher.
The mother of the bride was attired in a two piece ensemble in turquoise venice lace designed in sheath style, outlined with sequin scrolls down the front of the dress. She had a matching lace coat with three-quarter scalloped edge sleeves. She wore a turquoise floral whimsey with silver accessories and a corsage of pink sweetheart roses with silver ribbon.
The bridegroom's mother was attired In a long lavender brocaded gown outlined with gold sequins throughout the gown and matching jackets. Her
headpiece was a small whimsey She wore a corsage of pink sweetheart roses with lavender ribbon and had lavender accessories.
After the marriage vows, the bride presented her mother and the mother of the bridegroom with a single long-stemmed yellow rose.
After the ceremonies, a reception was held at the General Herkimer Hotel in Herkimer with approximately 325 guests attending. Music was provided by Fearro's band.
For her wedding trip to Canada, the bride wore a princess line, long sleeved velour dress of plum skirting and autumn floral print bodice. She wore a plum and white stole to match and had accessories of plum and black. The couple will reside at 31 Monroe Street, St. Johnsville upon their return.
A rehearsal party was held Saturday night at the home of the bridegroom's parents, when the couple presented gifts to their attendants.
The bride was feted at pre-nuptial parties given by the bridal party, Mrs. Gail Carter, Mrs. Joan Carter, the Diefendorfs, Mrs. Velma Dygert and her co-workers at Beech-Nut, Inc., Canajoharie.
The bride was graduated from Fort Plain Central School and is employed in quality control at Beech-Nut, Inc
The bridegroom was graduated from St. Johnsville central school and is employed as a patrolman in St. Johnsville. He served three years with the
Army.

The bride Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Wolcott, 31 Monroe St., St. Johnsville, and the groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Healy of Long Island City.
Mrs. Healy is a graduate of St. Johnsville Central School and the State University of New York at Cobleskill. She is employed as a dietitian at Nazareth High School In Brooklyn.
Healy is a graduate of Long Island City High School and Baruch School of City College, New York. He served four years in the Navy and presently is employed as a New York City fireman.

Phyllis Ruth Kretser Doak

Phyllis Ruth Kretser Doak, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 8, 2011. She was 89. Phyllis leaves behind her beloved family, husband, Joe; three daughters, Louise (Eric) Kleinstiver; Lisa (Monte) Sanders (children, Daniel and Andrea); Elaine (James) Mackley (children, Sarah and Adam); and three sons, Roger (Jeannie) Doak (children Madeline and Julia); Paul (Susan) Doak (children, Laura (Sister Mary Hanah, RSM) and Nathan); and Erin (Wendy) Doak, (children, Katherine, Patrick and Kimberly).
Confidante, supporter and friend to her family and friends, she was always ready to share her love and humor with others. She was a master gardener, homemaker and career nurse. Phyllis volunteered for over 20 years with Meals-On-Wheels, TOPS, and her beloved church. Phyllis was born in St. Johnsville, NY. She was a 1943 nursing graduate of Faxton Hospital, where she worked many years on maternity, and a post-graduate of New York Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Madolyn Kretser; and five sisters, Velma, Beverly, Winifred, Barbara and Emmajean.
A Vigil will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Grand Junction, on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Grand Junction, CO.

Doak, at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown. Rev. Walter Burns, pastor, performed the ceremony before an alter decorated with white chrysanthemums and pompons.
Miss Jennie Yuchniewicz was soloist and Mrs. Susan Salvagni, church organist, played traditional wedding music.
The bride, given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Herbert Anderson of Randall, wore an ice blue satin gown with a long, full train. Her illusion veil was caught to a blue satin crown and she carried a white orchid on a prayer book.
Miss Madeline Kenney of Whitesboro, maid of honor, wore a ballerina gown of green nylon net over green taffeta with a full skirt and matching jacket of green velvet. Her headband was of green velvet and she carried a bouquet of yellow pompons and chrysanthemums.
Louise Doak was flower girl and wore a gown of nylon net over pink nylon and a sweetheart hat of pink covered with pearls. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink and white chrysanthemums.
Best man was Michael Licata of Boston and the ushers were Robert Diefendorf of Fort Plain and Avery Van Slyke of Palatine Bridge.
A reception was held at the Stone Lodge In Palatine Bridge for approximately 100 guests.
The bride graduated from St. Johnsville Central high school and Faxton Hospital School' of Nursing In Utica. where she received her RN degree. She is supervisor in the maternity ward of Faxton Hospital.
Mr. Doak was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is a graduate of Boston high school and the Utica College branch of Syracuse University. He is an electronic engineer employed at television station WKTV, Utica.
The newlyweds will reside in Utica.

Emmajean (Jean) Lillian Kretser Anderson, 83, of Canajoharie, went to be with the Lord at her home with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 17, 2008. Born on December 22, 1924 in St. Johnsville, she was the daughter of Madolyn Smith and Fred Kretser.
She received her education in St. Johnsville and worked in her parent's restaurant business. Mrs. Anderson was also employed as a school bus driver, and at Templeton's Gloves and also at Beech-Nut Lifesavers. She and her husband also owned and operated Anderson's gas station in Randall for many years.
She married Kenneth Johnson in 1943 and out of this union, their daughter, Eileen was born. She then married Herbert Anderson on September 24, 1949 and their daughter, Cindy was born. They were married for nearly forty-five years residing in Randall, until his death in November 1993. Jean then moved to Arkell Center in Canajoharie.
She was a member of the Randall Reformed Church. Jean was the matriarch of the family. Fun-loving and vivacious in spirit, she attended her grandchildren's athletic events and will be remembered as "Gram" to the many friends and family in the school community. Jean, her family and her extended families enjoyed many years camping at Canada Lake.
Jean is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Eileen and Gerald Coddington of Fultonville and Cindy and Gary Eckerson of Whitesboro; four grandchildren, Tracy (Tom) Polte of Medford, MA, Shelly (Paul) Kayser of Amherst, NH, Scott (Jen) Friers of Amsterdam, and Jenny Quackenbush (Brett Jones) of Dobbs Ferry; four great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Megan Polte of Medford, MA and Sarah and Jacob Kayser, of Amherst, NH; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Joseph Doak of Montrose, CO; a brother-in-law, Robert Diefendorf of Fort Plain; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Velma Dygert, Beverly Lee, Winifred Wolcott and Barbara Diefendorf.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Jackson-Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Interment will immediately follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kretser, which was attractive with decorations of pompons. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson left for a trip to the western part of New York State, the bride's going away outfit being of brown velvet with matching accessories.
The bride presented her attendant with a compact, while Mr. Johnson's gift to his brother was a shaving set.
Mrs. Johnson attended St. Johnsville High School. Mr. Johnson was graduated from Dolgeville High School in the class of 1940. He is associated with his father In the conduct of a large farm, and the young couple will make their residence with his parents.
The bride was honored at a prenuptial shower given by her sister, Mrs. Oliver Wolcott, this village.

25th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Diefendorf, Canajoharie RD, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this week with a family dinner which also marked the entrance of one of their sons into the U.S. Marines
Mr. and Mrs. Diefendorf were married Dec. 9. 1944, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kretser, West St. Johnsville, by the Rev. Frederick Miller. They were attended by Orville Countryman of Canajoharie and Mrs. Phyliss Doak, now of Arizona.
They have one daughter, Mrs. Judy Homkey of Canajoharie and four sons, Dennis, Dean, Richard and Chauncey, the latter left on Tuesday for basic training at Parris Island with the Marine Corps. The couple also has four grandchildren.
Mrs. Diefendorf is employed at the Canajoharie Central School and Mr. Diefendorf with the New York State Department of Transportation at Canajoharie.

Mr. Robert C. Diefendorf, 82, of State Highway 163, Canajoharie, died Friday, December 19, 2008, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Born on February 9, 1926, in the town of Canajoharie, he was the son of the late Chauncey and Marion Richardson Diefendorf.
A lifelong area resident, Bob was educated in Cherry Valley and Canajoharie. He worked for 27 years for the New York State Department of Transportation based in Canajoharie, before retiring in the early '80s.
Bob was one of the oldest living members of the Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club. A past president of the club, he has been a member since 1977. In 1983 he was awarded Lion of the Year and in 1988 he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services. He was also an avid hunter and of the Lutheran faith. Above all, he loved his family.
On December 9, 1944, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Kretser. That union lasted nearly 53 years until her passing on October 22, 1997. He was also predeceased by a son, Dennis I. Diefendorf; and two sisters, Audrey Haig and Margaret Coffin.
His loving family includes his four children, Dean R. (Lynda) Diefendorf, Richard A. (Sharon) Diefendorf, Chauncey W. (Linda Mabbett) Diefendorf, and Judith (Virgil) Heiser; one sister, Beverly (Albert) Biltucci; one brother, Donald "Skip"( Helen) Diefendorf; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, with the Rev. Nancy Ryan presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call this evening (Monday) from 4 until 7 at the funeral home. The bride is a graduate of the St. Johnsville Central school, class of 1941 and Robert Diefendorf graduated from the Canajoharie High school. He is engaged in farming with his father.

Keith "Mike" Kretser, 71, formerly of the town of Canajoharie, died peacefully on Friday, November 19, 2010, at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mike was a lifelong area resident who enjoyed hunting and loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
On August 1, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Lou Jones. That union lasted 41 years until her passing on November 1, 2000.
Survivors include: his three daughters, Nadine (Peter) Williams of Canajoharie; Kay Lewis of Thomasville, N.C. and Colleen (Allan) Fuhs of Gloversville; four grandchildren, Gary Williams, James Williams, Frankie Lewis, Jr. and Alycia Lewis; three greatgrandchildren, Cristal Williams, Jay Williams and Nathan Lewis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Time of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Boiling Pot Eagles #3845, Church Street, Canajoharie, N.Y. Ernest R. Voorhees, 94, of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully, early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2020 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in St. Johnsville, New York.
He was born on November 13, 1925 in Oppenheim, New York and was the son of the late, Raymond and Elsie (Brown) Voorhees.
Ernie was educated at one room schoolhouses in Oppenheim.
On September 11, 1954, Ernie was united in marriage to the former, Diane A. May at the Lassellsville Methodist Church. The couple shared a blessed union of 47 years until Mrs. Voorhees passed away on June 22, 2002.
Ernie was a life long farmer as he owned and operated the family farm, Windy Acres Farm on Crum Creek Road in the Town of Oppenheim, New York. He ran the farm with his wife and three children.
After retiring from the farm, Ernie went to work for Case Agway from 1981-1992. Shortly thereafter, he worked the remainder of his employment with Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School as a custodian and bus driver, retiring in 2004 after 10 years of service.
He was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Oppenheim United Methodist Church as well as a Charter Member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department member since 1954, where he helped build both the Church and the Fire Department, a 50+ year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Temple, Lodge #796, Free & Accepted Masons, and Senior Citizens of Western Fulton County. Ernie also held positions as Oppenheim Town Assessor and voting machine custodian.
In his spare time, Ernie enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing cards with friends, family picnics and snowmobiling. His most precious time was spent in the company of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sister. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
Ernie is survived by his two beloved daughters, Vicki DeNinno of Oppenheim, New York, and Lisa Ploss and her husband, Brad of Oppenheim, NY; a special daughter in law, Amy Voorhees of Oppenheim, NY; eight loving grandchildren, Kelly Voorhees of Oppenheim, NY, Kathy Glanovsky and her husband, Jeffrey of Manheim, NY, Kristy Buccolo and her husband, Michael of Oppenheim, NY, Kayla Norris and her husband, Robert of Oppenheim, NY, Scott DeNinno, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca of Oppenheim, NY, Jodi DeNinno Familo of Lewisville, TX, Brandon Ploss of Stephenville, TX, and Lindsay Barton and her husband, Ryan of Andover, NH; nine cherished great-grandchildren; and a special sister, Erma Voorhees of Oppenheim, NY.
He was predeceased by a beloved son, Richard "Rick" E. Voorhees on August 2, 2010, a brother, William Leavenworth in 1967, a sister, Bertha Voorhees in 1994 and a special friend, Betty Johnson in 2016.
Procession will follow to Rural Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Diane.

Mrs Edith M Cromer, 77, of St. Johnsvilte RD 1, (Town of Ephratah), died Thursday afternoon in Little Falls Hospital, where she had been a patient since March 21.
Born in Scotch Bush, Town of Ephratah, Dec. 3, 1903, she was the daughter of Thomas and Elva Cretser Gleason. She was educated in Scotch Bush.
Her marriage to Peter Cromer took place May 5, 1920, in Scotch Bush. He died July 3, 1963.
For much of her life Mrs. Cromer was a housewife. She was a member of the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church and its Women's Missionary Fellowship International.
Survivors include two sons, Glen Cromer, Tacoma, Wash. and Howard E. Cromer of Cyprus, Calif.; six daughters. Mrs. Lois Green, St. Johnsville RD 1, Mrs. Harry (Betty) Van Dusen, Gloversville, Mrs. Leonard (Clara ) Fredericks, Nelliston. Mrs. Klemens (Joyce) Kiemczak, Amsterdam, Miss Gertrude Cromer, at home, and Mrs. George (Elva) Lynch, St. Johnsville; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Another son, Walter, predeceased his mother in September, 1980.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m from the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stanley Ball, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the Fical Cemetery, Scotch Bush.

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Funeral services were scheduled for this afternoon for Peter Cromer, 66, of St. Johnsville R.D. 1, who died Friday evening in Little Falls Hospital. He had been in the hospital about a week.
There will be a prayer service at 1:30 at the Smith Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, and the funeral will be at 2:30 in the Scotch Bush Methodist Church. The Rev. Herbert Seaman, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Howard May Jr. Interment will be in Fical Cemetery, Lassellsville.
Mr. Cromer was born in Scotch Bush on Oct. 18, 1897, a son of Stephen and Eliza Wertz Cromer. He spent his entire life in the Scotch Bush area and for 11 years was employed by the Little Falls Felt Shoe Co. until his retirement 18 months ago. He attended the Free Methodist Church in Scotch Bush.
His marriage to Edith Cleason took place May 5, 1920. She survives, with three sons, Walter of Garwood, N.J., Glen, with the U.S. Army in Germany, and Howard, with the Navy at Los Angeles; six daughters, Mrs. Joyce Klemczak, Amsterdam, Mrs. Lois Green, St. Johnsville, Mrs. Clara Fredericks, Nelliston, Misses Betty, Gertrude and Elva, St. Johnsville; one half- sister, Mrs. Minnie Mosher, St. Johnsville; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude, Scotch Bush and Airman 1/c Howard Cromer, stationed with the Navy in Philadelphia now home on leave.

LASSELLSVILLE - Mrs. Adeline A. Monk, 62, of Lassellsville, died at 12:30 yesterday afternoon at the Johnstown Hospital where she was admitted Saturday. She had been in failing health the last year.
She was born May 20,1914, at Scotch Bush, Town of Ephratah, the daughter of Thomas and Elva Cretser Gleason. She attended St. Johnsville schools and was graduated in 1929 from Little Falls High School.
Mrs. Monk was a lifelong resident of the Lassellsville area. She was united in marriage to Emerson Monk, who survives, July 25,1931, at St. Johnsville. Her employment was mostly in glove work at Glove Cities shops.
Mrs. Monk was a member of the Maquaes Chapter, OES, and of the Lassellsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors, besides her husband include, one daughter, Mrs. Donald Capece of Lassellsville; one sister, Mrs. Peter Cromer of Scotch Bush; two grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles R. “Dick” Baker, 89, of 157 Prospect Ave., Ilion, passed away on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born on June 9, 1919 in Herkimer, the son of the late Charles and Della (Cretzer) Baker. He was a 1939 graduate of Ilion High School and attended Cornell University. On Sept. 26, 1942 he was united in marriage to the former Florence Shaw, Dick and Florence recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
In 1942, Dick enlisted in the United States Army, earning the rank of sergeant. He served with the 81st “Wildcat” Division in the Pacific Theater and was part of the Battle of Peleliu and Anguar and the occupying force in Japan until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Following his service, Dick was employed for a brief time with Univac, he then served his community first in the Ilion Fire Department and then as superintendent of the Ilion Board of Water Commissioners, retiring in January of 1982.
Dick was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge #1444, the Ilion Winter Club, past president of the Ilion Community Club and he also held many leadership rolls in the state and national associations as water superintendent. He was also a former member of the American Legion. Above all else, Dick was a devoted family man who lived his life by the motto “Family first, last and always.” We will treasure the memories of family celebrations, annual trips to Myrtle Beach, years of camping in the Adirondack Mountains and the special connection Dick had with the children in his life. His legacy will be defined by the values he leaves behind in the hearts of his loved ones.
Dick is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 66 years, Florence. A son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Judy Baker, Attleboro, Mass. Three daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl and Werner Kleemann of West Henrietta, N.Y., Kathy Murphy of Ilion and Patricia Skinner of Cedarville. His 12 grandchildren, Amy (Kevin) Wilson, Kristen (John) LaBombard, Brian Kleemann, Lyndi (Vasillas) Toxavidis, Jason Baker, Karen (Patrick) Romeo, Kimberly (Paul) Passionino, Katie and Krissy Murphy and Matt, Jackie and Danny Skinner. His 10 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Alex and Ryan LaBombard, Allison and Robbie Wilson, Elizabeth Marcos, Lauren and Lilly Toxavidis, Grace and Michael Romeo.
Dick is predeceased by two son-in-laws, Paul Skinner and David Murphy and his three sisters, Lolita Lohman, Rose Allen and Florence Humphrey.
Funeral Services for Dick will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion. The Rev. Sarah V. Lewis will officiate. Internment will follow with military honors at the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. a the funeral home and are asked to consider memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Ilion ambulance.
