A very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Feight, 747 Nott street, Schenectady, Tuesday evening, April 7, when their oldest daughter, Helen, became the bride of James H. Strait, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Strait, of 191 West Main street. Amsterdam. The ceremony was performed under an arch of evergreen, ferns and cut flowers, by the Rev. H. Macer. The Bridal Chorus from "Lohengrin" was played by the bride's sister who also sang "O Promise Me"' and "Perfect Day."
The bride was attended by Miss Edna Strait, sister of the bridegroom, while the best man was
Lewis Feight, brother of tho bride. The bride wore white canton crepe and carried bridal roses. Her maid wore poudre blue beaded georgette and carried Columbia roses. She received a pair of amber cut beads and bracelet to match from the bride while the bridegroom gave his best man a solid silver cigarette case. The bride was remembered with a number of gifts including china, cut glass, linen, aluminum and several substantial checks.
Following a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Strait will reside at 6 Carmichael street, this city, where a newly furnished home awaits them. They have the best wishes of their many friends.

Mrs. Ethel D. Beal Weinman, 82, of 1725 Becker St. died yesterday at St. Clare's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Weinman had lived in Schenectady since 1913. The widow of Rudolph A. Weinman she was a member of State Street Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Weinman is survived by a son, George D. Weinman of Schenectady: two sisters. Mrs. Charles Gibbons of Amsterdam and Mrs. Arthur Dexter of Aiken, S.C., and three granddaughters.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. Adrian C. Gray Sr., pastor of Mount Pleasant Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery. The funeral home will be open after 7 tonight.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Mount Pleasant Reformed Church.

An electrical engineer, Mr. Weinman was graduated from Pratt Institute and was employed for 30 years in the research laboratory of the General Electric Co. and then worked for 18 years for Alco Products prior to retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Deal Weinman; a son, George D. Weinman, Schenectady; three granddaughters, Carol, Joyce and Janet Weinman, Schenectady; one niece and a nephew.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Kivlin-Campbell funeral home, the
Rev. Hugh Blair, assistant pastor of the State Street Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Immediately after the ceremony the wedding party left by automobile for Albany, where a wedding dinner was served at the Hampton. Later Mr. and Mrs. Weinman left for New York, where they will pass a few days. Upon the completion of their honeymoon trip they will take up their residence at 959 State street, this city. The bride has always been a resident of Amsterdam, and friends, who are many, extend heartiest congratulations. Mr. Weinman is a graduate of Pratt institute, class of 1908, and at present holds a position in the research laboratory of the General Electric company.

Services will be 11 a m Monday in Aiken Memorial Park.

AMSTERDAM - Arthur H. Dexter Sr., 76, a former Amsterdam alderman supervisor,
died Friday at the Aiken Nursing Home, Aiken, S.C.
Mr. Dexter had lived for many years at 60 Arnold Ave. and served as First Ward alderman from 1945 to 1953. He then served as First Ward supervisor on the Montgomery County Board. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner of Dexter's Delivery.
A native of Sidney, Mr. Dexter was a member of Elks Lodge 101 and the American Legion Post and attended the Presbyterian Church in Aiken.
He is survrived by his wife Mrs. Gladys Deal Dexter; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Harrold, Walton, a son, Arthur Dexter Jr., Aiken, a sister, Mrs. Melvin Marihew and a brother,
James Dexter, both of Amsterdam and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service was held yesterday afternoon at Aiken Memorial Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Dexter, former Amsterdam residents, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14, according to announcement at Walton, N.Y.
The Dexters were married in Trinity Reformed Church in Amsterdam by the Rev. George
Stinenger, Mrs. Dexter is the former Gladys Deal of Arnold Avenue.
Mr. Dexter was widely known in official circles having served several terms as first ward alderman and also as representative of that ward on the Board of Supervisors. He resigned as supervisor in 1962 and at the same time sold the delivery services that he had conducted for many years.
For several years past, the Dexters have divided their time between Walton where they reside at 81 North St., and Aiken, S.C. where they pass the winters. A daughter and four grandchildren reside in Walton, and a son and five grandchildren are residents of Aiken.
Dexter, veteran of World War I, is a charter member of James T. Bergen Post, 39, American Legion.

Deal W. Dexter, ten-year-old son of Arthur W. and Gladys Deal Dexter, died last night at 10:30 o'clock in the Amsterdam City ; Hospital, where he was taken yesterday morning. Death followed a week's illness of pneumonia. He was born in Amsterdam March 10, 1926, and was in the fourth grade in the Academy Street School. He was a mamber of the Second Presbyterian Sunday School. A lovable child, popular among his schoolmates, he was well known and liked throughout the community, making many friends as he accompanied his father on buainess trips to all parts of the city.
Besides his parents, he is surived by one brother, Arthur W. Dexter, Jr.; his grandfather, George Dexteer and; his grandmother, Mrs. Carrie exter; a great-grandmother, Mrs. W. B. Conney, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She formerly owned and operated with her husband the Inez Restaurant in Mohawk. She retired in 1974.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Viola Gray, Utica and Mrs. Ruth Atkinson. Little Falls; two brothers, Walter Edick, Fort Plain RD and Theodore Edick, Little Falls; two half-sisters, Mrs. Maryetta Shires and Mrs. Shirley Switzer, both of Utica; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held this morning at the Ortner Funeral Home, Utica. Interment was made in Charmichael Hill Cemetery, Westernville.

Walter E Edick Sr., 83, of Starkville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
Mr Edick was born Jan. 10, 1912, in the town of Minden, the son of Earl and Lottie Phillips Edick and attended St. Johnsville schools.
He was married to Mabel Mosher, who died in 1963.
At one time, Mr. Edick was employed at Remington Arms Co., Ilion Most recently he was employed with Herkimer County Highway Department, retiring in 1965
Survivors include his close companion, Alice Helmer Moss, with whom he resided in Starkville; four sons, Walter Edick and Kenneth Edick, both of Starkville, George Edick of Kirkville and Harry Edick of Rochester; one sister, Ruth Ackerson of Dolgeville; one brother, Theodore Edick of Dolgeville; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was Friday, Dec. 15, at Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion, the Rev. Kenneth Dingman of Fort Plain officiated. Burial will be in spring in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.

John L. Atkinson, 84, of Stratford, New York and for the last two years of the Fulton Center for Rehab in Gloversville, New York, passed away peacefully at the nursing home on Sunday morning, April 5, 2020.
He was born on August 8, 1935 in the Town of Minden, New York and was the son of the late, Charles and Ruth (Phillips) Atkinson. He was educated at St. Johnsville and Little Falls Schools.
John was self employed as a farmer and also worked various jobs for himself.
He enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Morris, Charlotte Atkinson, Irene Atkinson, and Beatrice Clemons; a brother, Oliver Atkinson; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Atkinson, Harold Atkinson, and George Atkinson.
A private family graveside service will be held at Michael Cemetery in Lassellsville, Town of Ephratah, New York.

Robert W. Clemons Sr., 66, of Canajoharie, died early Monday morning, Oct. 21, at his home following a short illness.
Mr. Clemons was born in Fort Plain, Feb. 9,1925, the son of Frederick and Dorothy Stoddard Clemons. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and attended St. Johnsville school.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Clemons had been employed as a batcher at Life Savers for 32 years, retiring in February of 1987. He was of Lutheran faith.
Memberships included Fort Plain VFW Post 3275 and Eagles Boiling Pot Aerie No. 3846 of Canajoharie. He was former member of Amecican Legion Smith Shultz Post 222 and Loyal Order of the Moose No. 853 for more than 30 years.

Bruce Atkinson, aged five months, infant son of Charles and Ruth Edick Atkinson, died Monday afternoon at their home on Klock Hill Town of St. Johnsville.
The infant was born March 31, 1946, in this place. The parents and brothers and sisters survive.
A prayer service was held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Lull funeral home, with the Rev. Alden Smith, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial was made in Michael Cemetery In Lassellsville.

The newlyweds have taken up their residence at the home of the bridegroom's mother.

Mr. Joseph A. Shires, 83, of 1139 West St., died January 14, 1964 in St Luke's
Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Sherburne, N.Y., May 16, 1920, son of the late Albert J. and Mary Hagee
Shires. He came to Utica at an early age and was educated in local schools. He married Maryet Cook in 1947. Mr. Shires was a Army veteran of WW II and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a machinist and worked for Foster Brothers for 14 years and later for Chicago Pneumatic for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. William (----); Mrs. Lawrence (Marilyn) Joseph, all of Utica, Mrs. BruCe (Carol) Alden of Mohawk and Miss Patricia Shires of Utica; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joseph Shires, John and Elizabeth Shires, all of Utica; one sister, Joan Shires Nathy of Utica; one brother, Moses Paul Shires of Pompano Beach; also seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Matt Funeral Home, and at 10 a.m. from St Louis Gonzaga Church where the Rev. John Andary will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St. at Mohawk St.

Marilyn J. Hemmerick passed away April 8, at home. She was born May 4, 1951 in Utica, NY to Joseph and Maryet (Cook) Shires.
She married Thomas J. Hemmerick on February 8, 1995 in Las Vegas, NV. He survives.
Survivors also include 2 sons, 2 step-daughters, 8 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Carol Alden, brother, Randy Shires, and step-son, Thomas P. Hemmerick.
Funeral mass will be Thursday, April 15, 2021 at La Virgen de Guadeloupe. Interment will be at Hillside Drive Cemetery.

Mrs. Edythe V. Phillips, 43, of Bleecker Stage, died at 9:30 this morning in Littauer Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in failing health for three years.
Born in Gloversville on Oct. 2, 1929, she was the daughter of Joseph Rochat of Gloversville and Mrs. Elizabeth Rochat of Bleecker Stage, both of whom survive.
A lifelong area resident, she was married to Lenard Phillips, who survives, in 1982.
Mrs. Phillips was employed as a secretary at the Fulton County office building.
A member of the First Baptist Church, Johnstown, she was a former teacher and secretary of the Sunday school, cochairwoman of the vacation Bible school, a member of the senior choir and a Pioneer Girl leader.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Laurie Phillips, of Bleecker Stage; one sister, Mrs. Richard Bump of Gloversville; two aunts and several nieces and nephews.

A 20-year-old city man remained listed in "satisfactory" condition in Littauer Hospital this morning after sustaining a gunshot wound at his home, 27 Beaver Street, about 4:50 Sunday afternoon.
Wayne Borst was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after his stepfather, William Brayton
and his mother, Emma Brayton found the youth with a towel wrapped around the gunshot wound which was on the left side of the body.

City police said this morning that a 20-year-old city man who was admitted to Littauer Hospital Sunday afternoon for a gunshot wound, sustained that injury while cleaning his gun.
Det. Cleveland Spraker said that Wayne Borst of 27 Beaver Street, told him yesterday afternoon that he was cleaning his .22-caliber rifle in his upstairs bedroom when the gun accidentally discharged a bullet into his left side.
Borst further told police that he didn't know the rifle had a bullet in it.
Borst was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.
City police received a call at 4:50 Sunday afternoon from Borst's stepfather, William Brayton, who said that he found the youth with a towel wrapped around the gunshot wound.

Miss Yvonne M. Borst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Brayton of 27 Beaver Street, was united in marriage to Ronald A. Baird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Baird of Gloversville RD 2, at a ceremony at 11 Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church, Johnstown.
Rev. John P. Ferguson, pastor, performed the single ring ceremony. Two arrangements of mixed seasonal flowers provided the setting. Mrs. Kenneth Fox of Fonda, organist, played "Wedding Prayer" and "O Perfect Love."
The bride was given in marriage by her stepfather. She wore a gown of white silk organza featuring an illusion bodice and sleeves and a skirt of layered alencon lace trimmed with pink ribbon, ending in a chapel train.
Her fingertip veil of illusion was caught to a lace and organza floral headpiece. White half finger gloves complimented her outfit.
The bride's bouquet was a Colonial arrangement of pink roses and white carnations amid
baby's breath sprays.
Miss Deborah Borst of Gloversville, sister of the bride, was maid of honor in a gown designed with a green smocked bodice, an Empire waistline, full skirt and long sleeves in lilac and green lace. She carried a bouquet of green carnations and baby's breath.
Miss Linda Brayton of Fort Plain, stepsister of the bride, and Miss Laurie Phillips of Gloversville, cousin of the bride, were bridesmaids in mint green polyknit gowns and flocked jackets and matching picture hats.
Two other bridesmaids, Miss Susan Baird and Miss Laurie Baird, both of Gloversville, sisters of the bridegroom, wore similar gowns and flocked jackets in powder blue with matching picture hats. Each bridesmaid carried an arrangement of three carnations tinted the color of her gown with fern.
Sherry Baird of Gloversville RD 2, another sister of the bridegroom, was flower girl in a sleeveless gown of dainty voile over floral print styled with a collar of ruffling and a bodice yoke outlined with matching ruffling. She wore a picture hat and carried colored and white carnations, pink roses and baby's breath in a basket.
Jerry Moore of Gloversville was best man. Ushers were John Borst of Gloversville and Howard Borst of Canajoharie, brothers of the bride; Richard Baird and Timothy Baird of Gloversville RD 2, brothers of the bridegroom.
The mother of the bride wore a pink A-line gown. The mother of the bridegroom also wore an A-line pink gown. Both wore corsages of white carnations.
A reception for 150 was held in the church hall after the ceremony with guests attending from Gloversville, Johnstown, Canajoharie, Fort Plain, Mayfield, Ephratah, Fonda, Canajoharie, Saratoga Springs, Vernon Center, Buffalo and Michigan.
After a trip to Florida, the couple will reside at Gloversville RD 2. The bride wore a maroon and white pant suit and a white carnation corsage for traveling.
Attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal party Thursday night at the home of the bride's mother and stepfather.
The bride was honored at a bridal shower July 22 in the church hall given by Mrs. Bernice Baird, Miss Susan Baird, Mrs. Emma Brayton, Miss Deborah Borst, Miss Laurie Phillips and Mrs. Beth Borst.
The bride, a 1973 graduate of
Gloversville High School, is employed by the Berkshire Leather Company.
The bridegroom, a 1971 graduate of Mayfield Central School, is employed by the Pan American Leather Corporation.
