Cora Utesch, 94, of Le Mars, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Cora Elizabeth Casler was born March 12, 1909, in Seney, the daughter of William and Martha (Hughes) Casler. Cora attended country school near Merrill, and later Merrill High School.
Cora was united in marriage to Edward P. Utesch on Feb. 16, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township, rural Merrill. Ed and Cora farmed near Merrill and later moved to a farm north of Le Mars where they lived until retiring. They moved to Le Mars in February 1973. Ed died Oct. 9, 1979. After Ed died, Cora enjoyed spending the winter months in Oklahoma and Texas with her daughters.
Cora was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She treasured the time with her children and grandchildren. She has made her home at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars since November 1995.
Survivors include her children, Donna Whitaker of Frisco, Texas, Lois Johnson and Edward and Marilyn Utesch, all of Le Mars; a son-in-law, Donald Witt of Bartelsville, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, David Witt, Linda Sohl, Stephen Witt, Jeffrey Witt, Donita Wendt, Kathleen Rice, Phillip Whitaker Jr., Paul Whitaker, Susan Cook, Prescott Whitaker, Charles Johnson, Robert Johnson, Michael Johnson, Beth Robey, and Mark Utesch; 27 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ella Utesch of Akron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Joyce Witt on June 7, 1999; two sons-in-law, Phillip Whitaker and Melvin Johnson; two great-grandsons, Warren Rice and Russell Whitaker; four sisters, Mildred Galland, Alva Jaynes, Ruth Waite, and Mary Ellen Schwartzkopf; and a brother, George Casler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Cora's grandsons.

Marrilyn J. Utesch, 65, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, from injuries from an automobile accident.
Marrilyn Joyce Lunders was born Oct. 25, 1941, at Cherokee, the daughter of Edward and Lenore (Miller) Lunders. Marrilyn was baptized into the Catholic faith. As a young child, Marrilyn lived in the Cleghorn area and attended Mary Hill Catholic School. She graduated from Cleghorn High School. Marrilyn attended business school in Sioux City and upon completion of her studies, she went to work for John Hancock Insurance in Sioux City in 1961 until 1971.
Marrilyn was united in marriage to Edward Utesch Jr. on Nov. 29, 1969, at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City. Marrilyn and Ed have lived and farmed in Grant Township for nearly 40 years.
Marrilyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Struble. She had taught CCD classes for several years and also volunteered to maintain the Parish Hall. She also enjoyed planting and caring for flowers at the church. She had also volunteered at the Plymouth County Fair for several years. In the later years, Marrilyn and Ed enjoyed volunteering at the Plymouth County Historical Museum.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Edward Utesch Jr. of Le Mars; two children: Beth Robey and her husband Doug of Omaha, Neb., and Mark Utesch of Le Mars; eight brothers and sisters: Gerald Lunders and his wife Kathy of St. Louis, Mo., Beverly Montie and her husband Bill of Detroit, Mich., Dianne Honermann and her husband Al of Mankato, Minn., Connie Vaughn and her husband Paul of Seattle, Wash., Dale Lunders and his wife Pat of Cleghorn, Susan Burns of Detroit, Mich., David Lunders and his wife Suzanne of Kansas City, Mo., and Loren Lunders of Marcus; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Marrilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lenore (Miller) Lunders, and a brother, LeRoy Lunders.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday, Oct. 1) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Struble with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service Sunday evening. Visitation continued Monday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
