June Wood Kested, age 91, formerly of Johnstown and Fonda, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was married for 42 years to the late Manning Kested, Jr. who predeceased her in 1999.
She was born on December 8, 1926 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Harold K. and Lena M. Wood of Ephratah.
June attended Johnstown schools, and worked as a grocery store cashier and a healthcare aide at the former Johnstown Hospital and the Willing Helpers Home.
June was a former member of the Johnstown Moose, the Altruist Class and the Lassellsville Senior Center. She was of the Methodist faith.
Dubbed “Mamie June” by her grandchildren, her greatest sense of joy came from being “Mame” to family and friends. She loved fishing, dancing and meeting friends at McDonald’s for coffee.
In addition to her husband and parents, June was also predeceased by brothers Kenneth, Owen, and Roland C. “Pete” Wood. She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie (John) Patrick and Donna (Richard) Lynaugh and her sister Gail Cope. Surviving grandchildren are Dan (Deb Jones) Lynaugh, Kelly (Paul) Loner, Beckie (David) Seney, Brian (Merrili) Nou, Vicki (Geoff) Schaake, three step-grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, immediately following the funeral service.

Miss Bonnie J. Lonergan, daughter of Mrs. June W. Kested of Fonda and Wesley C. Lonergan of Ballston Spa RD, became the bride of Harold R. Nou, son of Mrs. Alice S. Nou of 5 Oak Street, Johnstown, and the late Lawrence Nou, at a candlelight ceremony at 4 Saturday afternoon at the Ephratah Reformed Church. Rev. Milford A. Decker, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony.
Arrangements of yellow chrysanthemums and candelabra decorated the altar. Mrs. Audrey Saltsman, pianist, played a program of traditional wedding music.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an Alencon lace cage gown over satin, its neckline and long sleeves adorned with wide lace ruffling. A headpiece of white iridescent daisies held her fingertip double veil of silk illusion. She carried a white Bible trimmed with streamers, yellow roses and white satin.
Mrs. Donna L. Lynaugh of Fonda RD 1 was matron of honor for her sister. She wore an aqua blue georgette gown over taffeta with a matching floral headpiece with nylon Veiling. She carried a bouquet of yellow carnations.
Randall Carlton of Long Island was best man. Howard I. Brown of Fonda, foster brother of the bride, was usher.
The mother of the bride wore a yellow crepe sheath dress with matching accessories. The mother of the bridegroom wore a sea blue silk sheath dress and jacket with matching accessories. Both wore corsages of white carnations.
A reception for 40 was held at the home of the bride's parents after the ceremony. A 4-tiered cake was cut and gifts presented to the attendants.
For the wedding trip to Cape Cod the bride wore a white knit dress with yellow accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. The couple will reside at 17 Grand Street after July 1.
Both the bride and bridegroom are 1963 graduates of Johnstown High School. The bride is employed in the Gloversville branch of the Federal Savings and Loan Association. The bridegroom served four years with the Air Force and is employed by Volkert S. Bruce of Gloversville RD, building contractor.

The double-ring ceremony was performed in a setting of white chrysanthemums and white gladioli by Rev. John Pontier, pastor of the Fultonville Reformed Church.
Wedding selections were played by Kenneth Van Wie of Tribes Hill, organist, and sung by Mrs. Beverly. J. Kested of Johnstown, aunt of the bride.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white gown of Alencon lace over satin with skirt ending in a chapel train. Her fingertip 2-tier silk illusion veil was attached to a starched Alencon lace crown trimmed with seed pearls and she carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums with white rose center.
Miss Bonnie J. Longergan of Fonda RD 1, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a pink rose taffeta gown, and headpiece with nylon veil and carried a bouquet of pink chrysanthemums and pink roses.
Bridal attendants were Mrs. Ruth Wood of Northville RD, aunt of the bride, and Miss Barbara J. Lynaugh of Johnstown RD 2, sister of the bridegroom. They wore powder blue taffeta gowns, similar in design to the maid of honor's. They wore bow headpieces with veils and carried bouquets of white chrysanthemums and pink roses.
Howard I. Brown of Fonda RD 1. foster brother of the bride, was best man.
Owen H Wood of Northville RD, uncle of the bride, and Robert Blanchard of Johnstown, cousin of the bridegroom, were ushers.
The bride's mother wore a rose-petal pink linen dress, matching pink rose hat and pink accessories, and a corsage of white chrysanthemum and pink roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a powder blue chiffon dress with blue accessories and a corsage of blue chrysanthemums and white roses.
After the ceremony a reception for approximately 200 persons was held at the Johnstown VFW home. Music was provided by Joe Grippe's band of Frankfort.
The bride is a 1964 graduate of Johnstown High School and is employed in the business office of General Telephone Company of Upstate New York, Johnstown.
The bridegroom is a 1961 graduate of Johnstown High School and attended Cobleskill Agricultural and Technical Institute. He is employed as a bookkeeper at the Beacon grain store, Fultonville.
For a wedding trip to Cape Cod and the New England states, the bride chose an antique white rayon acetate 3-piece suit, white nylon floral hat, blue accessories and a corsage of white chrysanthemums and rosebuds.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynaugh will make their home in Fonda RD 1 after Saturday.
Guests attended the wedding from Johnstown, Glen, East Springfield, Little Falls, Gloversville, Ephratah, Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, Northville, Mayfield, Fonda, Ilion and
Schenectady.
Attendants received gifts at the home of the bride after rehersal Friday Night.

Following the ceremony a reception waa held at Griswold's Pavilion, Perth. Following a wedding trip through Northern New York State, Mr. and Mrs. Wood will be at home after Feb. 15 at St. Johnsville RD 1.

Gail W. Cope, at the graceful age of 87, passed away after battling a long illness at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam on June 18th.
Born in Ephratah, New York on April 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Harold K. and Lena M. Snell Wood.
Gail was a lifetime area resident and attended local schools.
She was a loving mother to her four children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, photography, dancing, horseback riding, music and endless shopping! Her biggest pride was her family and she praised each and every one of them any time you would speak with her.
Survivors include sons, Ronald D. Cope of Long Island, Tim A. Cope of Albany, daughters, April D. Timerman of Canajoharie and Connie J. Cope of Glens Falls, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Martin Rd, Fonda.

CANAJOHARIE, Sept. 30. — Lieut Raymond Foster Shults, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Shults of Palatine Bridge, has been promoted to the rank of captain at the Charleston Army Air Base. Charleston, S. C, where be is stationed with the air service command. Capt Shults is a graduate of the Canajoharie High School and of Clarkson School of Technology, Potsdam, class of June, 1940, where he was a member of the R. O. T. C, and received his degree In mechanical engineering. After graduation, he continued military training at Fort Belvoir, Va., and received a commission in the U. S. Army.
For several months he was an employe of the Curtis Wright Airplane Corporation in Buffalo. He enlisted in the Air Corps in December, 1940, was sent for training to the Mississippi Aeronautical Institute, Jackson, Miss., and then to Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill. where he was graduated and commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Corps in December. 1941. He was stationed at Shaw Field, Sumter, S. C, and later had two months' advanced aeronautical training at the Army and Navy School, Hartford, Conn. He received his commission as first lieutenant Dec 24, 1942.
Capt. Shults was married in Fort Plain July 25. 1942, to Miss Marian Carnrite, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Carnrite of that village. Mrs. Shults is living in Charleston, S. C.

Mr. Shults was graduated from the Canajoharle High school and from Clarkson School of Technology, Potsdam, where he enrolled in the R.O.T.C. for four years, completing the officers' training course at Fort Belvolr, Va. He studied at the Mississippi Aviation institute, Jackson, Miss., and was graduated from Chanute Aviation school, Rantoul, Ill., receiving his commission as lieutenant in December, 1941. Since that time he has been a squadron engineer in the army air force, Shaw field, Sumier, S.C., where he and his bride will live after a short wedding trip.

Harriet Carnrite Bressoud, 81, died Dec 29 in Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. She was married to Marius L Bressoud Jr. for 57 years in June.
A graduate of Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, N.Y., where she majored in piano, organ and music education, she taught music in Rochester. She was a music and sixth grade teacher for the Bethlehem Area School District and an organist and choir director for St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Lyndhurst, N.J.
Born in Fort Plain, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late James S. Sr. and Edna (Saltsman) Carnrite. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Bethlehem, where she was a Sunday school teacher; vestry and altar guild member, senior warden and chairwoman and parish coordinator for the pastoral care committee.
Survivors: Husband; sons, David M. of St. Paul, Minn., John L of Dover, N.H.; daughter, Anne B. Raider of New York City; brother, James S. of Edenton, N.C.; sister, Marian C. Shults of Saratoga, N.Y.; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews.
Services: memorial, 130 p.m. Saturday in the church. No calling hours. Arrangements, John F. Herron Funeral Home, Bethlehem.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin and French organdy. Her illusion veil was attached to a crown of orange blossoms and she carried a white rose shower bouquet with an orchid.
Mrs. Raymond F. Shults of Rochester, sister of the bride was matron of honor. She wore a yellow dress. Miss Elizabeth Nunn of Brownwood, Tex, and Miss Phyllis Holloway of Pittsburgh, Pa., were the bridesmaids. They wore green dresses. The head dresses were of matching illusion veiling and they carried colonial bouquets.
The ring bearer was Gassett DeGraff of New York city.
Robert Bressoud, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man and the ushers were James Carnrite, brother of the bride, and Raymond Shults.
The bride's mother wore a beige dinner dress and flowered hat and an orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom was gowned in pale blue, and wore flowered hat and orchid corsage.
The music before the ceremony was played by Mrs. Iren Park as organist with Mrs. Richard Byquest of Rochester as soloist.
The ceremony was followed by a reception at the home of the bride's parents, 19 West street. A string trio. Miss Charlotte Wetterau, Miss Elizabeth Hain and Miss Irene Hain played during the reception.
After a trip to Cuba, Lt. and Mrs. Bressoud will reside at 330 Stuyvesant avenue, Lyndhurst, N. J.
Out of town guests were from Buffalo. Rochester. Long Island, New York city, Roxbury, Albany, Pittsburgh, Pa., Montcalm, N. J., Orange, N. J., and Lima, Pa.
The bride was graduated from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. For two years she has been a teacher of music in the Rochester public schools. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, national music fraternity.
The bridegroom, a graduate of Syracuse university was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Tau Sigma Delta, national fine art honorary fraternity. Lt Bressoud served with the First Marine division and was wounded at Okinowa.

James Schuyler Carnrite, 93, resident of Blacksburg, VA died peacefully at his home on March 16, 2019.
He was born in Ft. Plain, NY to Dr. James S. and Edna Carnrite.
After high school graduation he served in the US Marine Corps 2nd Division during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in the Pacific Theater.
He received his Ed.D. From Columbia University and worked most of his career as Superintendent of Schools in New York State.
James is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters Lisa Nasrallah of Melbourne Beach, FL, Lynn Carnrite of Portland, OR and two stepchildren Stephen Corwin of Blacksburg, VA, Nancy Corwin of Roanoke, VA, seven grandchildren and one greatgrandson.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Marion Shults of Saratoga Springs, NY, Harriet Bressoud of Bethlehem, PA and stepson Michael Corwin of Menlo Park, CA.
Burial will take place in Ft. Plain, NY.
