  Mrs. Florence B. Allen, 71, of Johnson Avenue Extension, Johnstown RD 2, died at 2:15 yesterday afternoon at Johnstown Hospital where she had been a patient for seven weeks. She had been in failing health two years.
   Born Aug. 16, 1898 in the,Town of Johnstown, daughter of David H. and Jennie Hogaboom Briggs, she had been a lifelong area resident.
   Mrs. Allen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the former Cornell Study Club.
   Survivors are her husband, Harold M. Allen; one daughter, Mrs. Michael J. Subik of Johnstown; one son, Milton B. Allen of Johnstown RD; four grandchildren; one great-grandson several nieces and nephews.

  At an enjoyable pre-nuptial event held Tuesday night, when Mrs. Lyman Fox, Mrs. J. D. Hollenbeck and Mrs. Daniel Hollenbeck entertained at the home of the latter, 282 North Perry street, the engagement of Miss Florence Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Briggs, of Johnson avenue, to Harold Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen of Keck Center, was announced.
   There were twenty-five guests present. The home was attractively decorated with a color scheme of yellow and white, a large bridal bell being suspended over the place set for the bride-to-be. Music, games and other entertaining features made the time pass very quickly and enjoyably. Miss Margaret Lens of Gloversville favored with several pleasing vocal selectionsat the piano by Miss Pauline Ackernecht.
   A four course luncheon was served, the guests being seated at a number of small tables decorated with cut flowers and shaded candies. At each place was a ceard bearing the names of the young couple who are soon to be wed.
  During the last course, the bride, elect was "served" with a card bearing the inscription "follow me." After she had followed a cobweb of thread through the entire house, she found at the end a basket filled with many beautiful pieces of linen. She also received a gift of gold.
   Miss Briggs was the guest of honor at another pre-nuiptial event, held recently when the members of her Sunday school clsss of St. Mark's Lutheran church tendered her a pleasant surprise. An enjoyable evening was spent and she was presented with a cut glass mayonnaise set.

  Theodore J. Youker, 79, of Urbana and formerly of Springfield, died at 5: 15 A.M. on October 27, 2000, in Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital . He was born in Oppenheim, New York on April 20, 1921, the son of John Henry and Birdella (Allen) Youker. He retired in 1965 with the rank of Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service and later served six years as Chief Air Advisor with the Springfiel d Air National Guard. He was a member of St. Teresa Church, past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 937, American Legion Post 362 and a World War II United States Air Force Veteran. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Concietta (Marion); son and daughter-in-law, John and Sue Youker, Springfield; grandson and spouse, John and Tonya Youker, Kettering , Ohio; two brothers, Franklin and Phillip, both of New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friend s may call from 4-6 P.M. Sunday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. Monday in St. Theresa Church. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to St. Teresa Church.

   Dolgeville — Mrs. Grace Youker received word yesterday from the War Department that her husband, Pvt. Allen J. P. Youker, infantry, was wounded slightly in action Jan. 27 in Luxembourg.
  In a letter from her husband, written Feb. 2, Mrs. Youker learned that his injury was in his neck. He added that he also had suffered frozen feet, and was in hospital in France.
  He is the son of Mrs. Birdella Youker, town of Oppenheim, and the late John Youker, and entered service last July 20. He was sent overseas iast December.

  Mr. Allen J.P. Youker, 95, of 287 Gray Youker Road St. Johnsville, Town of Oppenheim, died Monday September 10, 2018 at the Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Falls, where he was recovering from hip surgery. Mr. Youker would have been 96 on Saturday.
  He was born in Oppenheim on September 15th, 1922 the son of John and Birdella (Allen) Youker, and attended country schools.
  A veteran of WWII he served honorably in the United States Army, from July 1944 until he was discharged in April of 1947 with the rank of PFC. He was with Company C 29th Infantry Regiment, serving as a rifleman. He was wounded in action on January 27, 1945 in Luxemburg. He served in the following campaigns, Rhineland, Ardennes, and in Central Europe, earning his Purple Heart in Luxemburg.
  Mr. Youker was last employed by the Daniel Green Company in the maintenance department, retiring from there in 1984.
  He was also very handy in carpentry, and as an electrician and general handyman.
  He is survived by his sons Allen J. Youker, and Carl and his wife Linda Youker both of Oppenheim, his daughters Linda, Sharon and Winnie, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter in law Sharon Youker on July 20, 2015 and his brothers and sisters.
  Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Stratford Cemetery.

The ceremony was performed at the Universalist parsonage by the Rev. C. A Moulton, in the presence of close relatives.
   The bride wore a powder blue afternoon dress with pink accessories and a corsage of pink roses. Her bridesmaid wore navy blue with navy and white accessories and a corsage of red roses.
  Following the ceremony a wedding dinner and reception was held at the D. A. A. Clubhouse which was attended by fifty relatives and friends. The bride and bridegroom are both employed at the Eastern Footwear Co.
  Following a short honeymoon trip they will reside with the bridegroom's parents.
  The bride's gift to her bridesmaid was a locket and the bridegroom gave his best man a billfold.

  Canajoharie - Mrs. Dorothy Van Evera, 56, of 122 Montgomery St., a teacher in the
Johnstown tchool system, died Saturday in Nathan Lttauer Hospital, Gioversville.
   She was born in Johnstown, daughter of Charles and Nettie Smith Abbott. She was a
graduate of Broadalbin Training School and Oneonta Normal School. She was married to Allen O. Van Evera, in 1934. Mrs. Van Evera was a member of Canajoharie Methodist Church.
   Besides her husband and step-mother, Mrs. Dorothy Heagle Abbott, Johnstown, she leaves a son, Bruce A Van Evera, Canajoharie, and two sisters, Mrs. Hubert Ryall, Gloversville, and Mrs. Harold Lawton, Cincinnati, Ohio.
   The funeral will be at 2 tomorrow from the Swartz Funeral Home, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Ralph Curtis, pastor of Canajoharie Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Van Evera, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Van Evera of Canajoharie, was solemnized at 11, Saturday morning at the parsonage of the Methodist Episcopal church, with Rev. David Paton, pastor, officiating.
  The bride was attractively gowned in brown crepe, with accessories to match, and carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses. She was attended by a sister, Miss Elisabeth Abbott, who also wore brown crepe, and carried an arm bouquet of American roses.
  Mr. Van Evera was attended by Francis Lasher, of Canajoharie.
  The bride's gift to the bridesmaid was a leather pocketbook, and the best man was presented with a leather billfold.
  Following the ceremony, the party adjourned to the home of Mrs. Hubert Ryall, where dinner was served to the immediate members of both families. The newlyweds then left on a wedding trip to the western part of the state. Upon their return, they will reside in their newly furnished home, 12 East Clinton street.
  The bride is a graduate of Johnstown High School, Broadalbin Training School, and Oneonta Normal. At present she holds a position on the faculty of the East State Street School, and has taught in this city for the past three years. She has been a guest of honor at several pre-nuptial events.

  Alma (Elma) Wohlgemuth, 87, a resident at Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning, March 13, at the facility, where she had resided since October.
  Mrs. Wohlgemuth was born Jan. 28, 1912, in Canajoharie, the daughter of Elmer and Louise Palmatier Countryman. She had lived in Canajoharie until 1950, when she moved to Fultonville.
  On June 4, 1930, she was married to Donald C. Wohlgemuth. He died in 1983.
  She had been employed at Beech-Nut Packing Co. for several years and later worked at Johnstown Hotel, Mazes Hotel in Fonda and Bob’s Tavern in Amsterdam. She retired in 1974.
  Mrs. Wohlgemuth was a former member of Canajoharie Reformed Church.
  Survivors include a son, Leonard C. Wohlgemuth of Fonda; three daughters, Joan Esparza of Tucson, AZ, Ella Olmstead of Silver Hills, FL and Donna Cruz of Norwich; a sister, Jane Baker of South Glens Falls; nine grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  The funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning, March 16, at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, Fultonville, the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiated. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in spring.
  Calling hours were observed Monday, March 15, at the funeral home.
  Memorial contributions may be made to Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.

  CANAJOHARIE — Miss Alma Countryman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Countryman and Donald Wohlgemuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wohlgemuth of McKinley were married at the home of the bride on Seebers' Lane on Wednesday at 1 with Rev. Edward R. James, minister of the Reformed church officiating. The ceremony was performed under an arch of evergreens and white ribbon in the bay window of the living room.
  The bride's gown was peach colored satin with large picture hat to match and she carried a shower bouquet of roses and lilies of the valley. The brides maid was Miss Priscilla Countryman, sister of the bride and she was gowned in orchid georgette with picture hat to match and she carried pink carnations. Karl Wohlgemuth, brother of the groom was best man.
  The bridal party entered the living room through an aisle formed of pink and white ribbon carried by Jean Knelleken and Jane Countryman, to the strains of the Lohengrin Wedding March played by George Hambrecht and accompanied by Mrs. Louis Knelleken.
  The bride's gift to the bridesmaid was a vanity case and the gift of the bride groom to his attendant was a fountain pen. The dining room was decorated with evergreens and pink crepe paper and after a sumptuous repast the happy wedded couple left for an extended southern tour. The gifts were numerous among which were gifts of gold and several substantial checks. The bride's travelling suit was black and white with black hat to match. On their return they will reside in McKlnley, where their newly furnished home awaits them

  Mrs. Dorothea S. Wohlgemuth, 100, of Canajoharie, New York, passed away peacefully early Saturday, March 28, 2015.
  Born on March 5, 1915, in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Daniel Sullivan and Blanche Leigh Sullivan. She was a graduate of Dolgeville Central School and of Brockport State and Buffalo State College, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. Mrs. Wohlgemuth had been a resident of the Canajoharie area since 1941, previously residing in St. Johnsville and Dolgeville.
  Mrs. Wohlgemuth taught elementary education for St. Johnsville Central School and Canajoharie Central School until her retirement in 1974.
  During World War II she served as a Civil Defense Aircraft Observer.
  Mrs. Wohlgemuth was a communicant of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church of Canajoharie and was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church.
  Dorothea was a former leader for the Girl Scouts in Canajoharie. She was a member of both the Colonial Club in Canajoharie and the Palatine Literary Society. She was an avid bridge player.
  On July 26, 1941, in Dolgeville, NY, Dorothea was married to Karl Alfred Wohlgemuth. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2000. Her brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas L. and Marjorie Sullivan; and sister, Louise Callard, also predeceased her.
  Mrs. Wohlgemuth is survived by her son, Richard D. and Sylvia Wohlgemuth of Canajoharie, NY; granddaughter, Ellee Fichthorn of Canajoharie, NY; grandson, Daniel and Rebecca Wohlgemuth of Elizabethtown, KY; great-granddaughters, Meg Wohlgemuth, Jackie Wohlgemuth, Sarah Anne Wohlgemuth, all of Elizabethtown, KY, Avery Fichthorn of Canajoharie, NY; nephews, John Callard and family of Fairport, NY, Nick Sullivan of Raleigh, NC.
  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, from 3 to 7 p.m. at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.

Sullivan of Dolgeville, was married to Karl Alfred Wohlegemuth of Canajoharine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wohlgemuth of Ephratah, on saturday, July 16, 1941, ar 2:30 P. M. in the rectory of St. Joseph's Church Dolgeville. The Rev. Francis Heenan officiated.
  The maid of honor was Miss Louise Marcia Sullivan, sister of the bride, and best man was Gerald Fitzgerald of Canton, a college friend of the groom and editor of the Potsdam "Courtier"
  The bride wore white mousline de sole, trimmed with chantilly lice and a fingertip veil trimmed with chantilly lace and falling from a crown of pearls. The maid of honor wore powder blue nanon, a lace jacket of the same color, and a Juliet cap of matching material. The bride carried a shower bouquet of white roses and sweet peas, and the maid of honor carried an arm bouquet of sweet peas.
  A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents eith fourty guests present. The house was decorated with garden flowers. Music at the reception was furnished by Mrs. Howard Austin, pianist, Miss Ruth Dunckel, violnst, and Mrs. Barbara Driscoll, a member of the faculty of the St. Johnsville schools, soloist. Mrs. Driscoll sang "Ave Maria," "O Promise Me," and "At Dawining." Mr. and Mrs. Wohlgemuth left on a wedding trip to Quebec and other parts of Canada. The bride wore as a going-awayoutfit a black and white crepe jacket with white accessories and a corsage of gardenias.
  The bride is a graduate of Brockport Norman School and the Buffalo State Teachers College and is a member of the faculty of the St. Johnsville schools. the bridegroom is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and of Albany Law School and is an attorney in Canajoharie. He is active in the Canajoharie Chamber of Commerce, the Canajoharie County Club and other organizations in the village. Mr. Wohlgemuth was guest of honor at a stag party at the Antlers, West St. Johnsville, July 23, at which Attorney John F. Bennison of Fort Plain and A. Franklin Triumpho of St. Johonsville were the hosts. Mrs. Wohlgemuthwas recently showered with gifts by many of her friends at a party in her honor given by Miss Frances Wood.
  The bride, whose mother was formerly Miss Blanche Lee, is well known in thie vicinity as she made her home with her aunt and uncle, Miss Mary E, Lee and Thomas H. Lee of Jackson Street while attending Brockport Normal, and from earliest childhood had spent the summers with relatives in Clarendon and Holley.

  Given in marriage by her parents, the ride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl R, Berggren of East Aurora. He husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl A. Wohlgemuth here.
  Mrs. Danile Wyjan, Montreal, Canada, was matron of honor. Miss Polly Sue Berggren attended her sister as maid of honor. Edward Sitterly ,Nelliston was best man.
  Th enew matron, an alumna of Boston University, is employed at the Albany Medical Center. The bridegroom, also a graduate of boston University, is participating in the management trainee program at Schenectady Savings and Loan Co.

BOLIVAR. Jan. 27 – the thrill of selling her first short story came this week to Mrs. Ruth S. Myers, this place. 28-year-oid housewife and mother. Mrs. Myers, wife of Earle F. Myers, mathematics instructor at Bolivar Central School, was notified by an Illinois publishing house that her short story had been accepted and will appear in an early issue of one of a children's publication.
  Mrs. Myers, who specializes in juvenile stones suitable for the kindergarten age child, has beer. writing regularly for ten years. It has only been in the last two years that she has attempted to have any stories published. She spends at least three hours a day on her writing.
  After graduating from high school and a teachers' training class at Gloversville. her hometown, Mrs. Myers taught school three years before she was married at 20. Influenced by her husband while living in Wilson, near Niagara Fails. Mrs. Myers attended Buffalo State Teachers College two years, specializing in kindergarten and primary teaching, and receiving a bachelor of science degree in 1935.
  It was while at State Teachers College that she was first inspired to write juvenile stories, through the influence of Miss Irene Hirsch a teacher.
  "I had been, attempting to write for years." Mrs. Myers revealed. "even starting a novel at one time, but it was Miss Hirsch who set, me on the trail of children's stories.”

  Funeral services were held at 10 a m. Friday in St. James Episcopal Church, Franklin Square, L. I., for Earle F. Myers, 61, a native of Nelliston, who died last Tuesday in Deepdale Hospital, Glen Oaks.
  Myers, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Myers, Nelliston, graduated from Fort Plain High School and received a bachelor of science degree from St. Lawrence University and a master's degreefrom Columbia University Teachers College he did post-graduate work at Wake Forest College, N.C.; New York University and the University of Washington.
  He was a former science teacher in the Elmont Memorial High School, Elmont, L. I. His first teaching post was in Ephratah.
  Many older Fort Plinm-Nelliston residents will remember him as a skilled debator and as "Teakettle” Myers of FPHS foolball fame.
  Myers was a member of the Parent-Teachers Association, Classroom Teachers Asociation, the Nasau-Suffolk Teachers Association and the New York State Science Teachers Association.
  He is survived by his wife, Louise: three sons, Earle, Jr., Michel, Roy and a daughter, Edith.
