17388. Robert James Hoke

  Second Lieut. Robert J. Hoke, 28, formerly of 32 Doubleday Street, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoke of Ilion has been reported missing in action With the Army Air Forces Over Europe.
  A navigator in the Army Air Forces, his plane is believed either to have been forced or shot down in a bombing mission over Kassel, Germany on July 30.
  Lieutenant Hoke enlisted in the Army Aviation Cadet Corps in March, 1942, and was commissioned a year later at Hondo, Tex. He was assigned to a base in England early last June.
  Because he reported in his letters home that he was still training as a navigator, the former \ Binghamtonian was not known to have been in action until his relatives were informed by the adjutant general in Washington he is missing in action. His last letter home, in which he said the English people were "nice," was Written just before he was assigned to the bombing mission.
  The former IBM employe has two brothers and two sisters. They are: Mrs. Edward Garvey, 524 Chenango Street; Mrs. Paul Demoski, Illon; Arthur Hoke, Jr.. 133 East Frederick Street, and Charles Hoke, Ilion.

  The bride wore a three-piece suit of powder blue with blue accessories and a corsage of roses and gardenias. Her attendant, Miss Erma Yoemans, wore a navy blue ensemble with powder blue accessories. When they return from a short trip Mr. and Mrs. Hoke will reside a t 67 Bingham street.

  FORT MYERS. Fla. - Margaret Mary Garvey, 65, a homemaker and former longtime Poughkeepsie resident, died Friday ar her Fort Myers home, after a long illness.
  
A Florid resident for 13 years, she was a member of the Cypress Lake Country Club, Fort Myers.
  She was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Herkimer (Herkimer County), to Arthur Hoke and Katherine L. Kreuzor Hoke.
  Survivors include three sons, Robert Garvey, Richard S. Garvey of Long Meadow, Mass., and Charels P. Garvey of Great Barrington, Mass.; a daughter, Eileen J. Wright of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a brother, arthur Hoke of Glen Aubrey (Broome County); six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
  She was predeceased by a son, Edward J. Garvey IV.

  MISS MARGARET HOKE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoke, Doubleday Street, was married io Edward J, Garvey, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs, Edward J. Garvey of Nutley, N. J., at 9 a. m. today in St. Pauls Church by the Rev. William J. Morris.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father, and wore a gown of white marquisette and lace with bishop sleeves and a square gathered neckline. The full skirt ended in a long train. A fingertip veil was fastened ito a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried a white prayer book tied with a shower of gardenias and white ribbons.
  Miss Catherine Malone, the maid of honor, wore yellow marquisette with a high neckline and short sleeves. She carried yellow roses and blue delphinium tied with a blue bow. Her headdress was a tiara of yellow and blue flowers. Miss Ellen Corser and Mrs. Paul Manleri dressed like the maid of honor, except in blue, were the other attendants. Paul Manicri was best man for Mr. Garvey, and Charles and Arthur Hoke were ushers.
  After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Elk's Club where there was a bride's table with a three tiered cake and summer flowers.
  For her wedding trip. Mrs. Garvey wore a red cotton suit with white accessories and a corsage of gardenias. The couple will live in Rochester.

Her husband was Raymond Cline GLEED of Mohawk. They had daughters, Jane and Bette, and lived on Richfield St. in Mohawk, overlooking the town park and school. Raymond Cline GLEED (b. Aug. 4, 1889, d. 1946 from pneumonia) was Mohawk village treasurer and an active fireman. He was named after his Uncle Cline, mayor of Amsterdam, NY. Raymond married Margaret Edick of July 31, 1912 in the Methodist Church in Mohawk. Raymond's brother William lived on Orchard St. with wife Hattie and son Harry. They were sons of Margaret Casler and James W. Gleed. "

  Ilion—Charles L. Wheelock, 70, Upper Otsego St., a retired businessman, died March 3 in Palatka. Fla., where he was spending the winter. He operated the Wheelock Ice Co., Old Forge Rd., for many years and later an appliance store.
  He was bom in the Town of Litchfield, son of Henry and Nettie Avery Wheelock. He was twice married. His first wife was Clara Brown. She died in 1922. He married Julia Trombley Doyle, in 1931, in New York City. Mr. Wheelock was a member of Church of the Annunciation and Ilton Lodge BPO Elks.
  Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters and two sons; Charles E. Wheelock, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Virginia Fullem. Mrs. Mabel Hennessey, Utica; Mrs. Norma Fay, Mystic, Conn.; M. Clarence Doyle, Utica; a sister. Miss Mildred Wheelock, and a brother, Clifford Wheelock, both of Frankfort.
   The funeral will be at 8:30 Saturday, from the Applegate Funerl Home and at 9 from Church of Annunciation where a solemn requiem Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

  Herkimer—Eari Shaul 71, died in his 712 Church St. home yesterday after a long illness.
  He was born Aug. 12, 1888, in Mohawk, son of David and Jennie Edick Shaul. He was educated in the Mohawk Schools. Mr. Shaul was a plumber by trade in Frankfort for about 50 years. He had served the Village of Herkimer as plumbing inspector until his health forced his retirement two years ago.
  He married Flora Brock, July 29, 1914, in Frankfort. The couple moved to Herkimer in 1924. Mrs. Shaul died Dec. 21, 1959. He was a member of the Herkimer First Baptist Church.
  He leaves a daughter, Mrs. George Hadcock of Herkimer, two sons, Everett of Rantoul,
Ill., Richard of Herkimer; four grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Ray Coonradt of Lafayette.
  The funeral will be at 10 Saturday from the Fenner Funeral Home, 115 Court St, with the Rev. Calvin Moon, First Baptist Church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

  Herkimer—Mrs. Earl Shaul, 712 Church St., died Monday night in Memorial Hospital.
  Flora Brock was born Feb. 7, 1891, in Frankfort, daughter of Almond and Nellie Donahue Brock. She was married to Earl Shaul on July 29, 1914.
  Her busband is a retired plumber and until a year ago was Herkimer's plumbing inspector. Mrs. Shaul was a member of the First Baptist Church and was affiliated with several societies of the church.
  She leaves her husband, two sons, Everett of Rantoul, Ill., Richard of Herkimer; a daughter, Mrs. George Hadcock of Herkimer; four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 tomorrow from the Fenner Funeral Home.

  FRANKFORT - A quiet home wedding took place yesterday at high noon at the home of the bride, when Miss Flora Belle Brock, only daughter of Mrs. Nellie A. Brock, was married to Earl Shaul of this village. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. H. Hunt, pastor of the Baptist Church of which the bride is a member, in the presence of about 30 relatives and intimate friends. The rooms had been prettily decorated, with flowers, ferns and similax. The wedding march from Lohengrin was played by Miss Samantha Smith, a sister of the groom, and the impressive ring service of the Baptist Church was used. The bride was charming in a gown of white voile and lace, and carried a shower bouquet of white carnations. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served by Mrs. Harris, cateress. The bride received many handsome gifts of silver, cut glass, linen, china and rugs. Mr. Shaul is a young man who is highly regarded by all who know him. He is in the employ of H. M. Smith & Son as plumber.

  Everett B. Shaul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shaul, 712 Church St., has been promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant, it has been announced by Headquarters, 316th Bombardment Wing, VH, stationed at Okinawa.
  Mrs. Everett Shaul, the former Myrtle Robinson, is residing at the home of Lt. Shaul’s parents. At present Lt. Shaul is assigned to the 559th Service Group as assistant vehicle maintenance officer.
   The 316th Bomb Wing is the Boeing B-29 unit of the First Air Division, formerly the 8th Air Force, the famed fighting unit of the war in Europe, now on occupational duty in the Pacific.

  The ceremony took place July 5 in the Second Baptist church of St. Louis, Mo. The single ringe service was read by the Rev. William Russell Parkey. Miss MNamie Rutledge of Normal and Cpl. Harry Hass of the United States air corps, stationed at Albuquerque, N. M., were attendants.
  The bride is a graduate of Bloomington schools, now employed at the Union Gas & Electric company, The bridegroom, who attended Herkimer schools, is an instructor in the Air Corps Technical school at Chanute field. He is a staff sergeant.
  The couple will make their home in Bloomingdale.
