Carl Donald Truax

  Carl D. Truax, 77, of Wilobob Terrace died Monday at his home. A native of Parish, Mr. Truax lived in Fulton since 1942. He was the owner for 20 years of Carl D. Truax Inc., an electronics and mechanical component firm in Fulton, and previously was employed with General Electric Co. He also was co-founder of B&T Sport Shop in Fulton. Mr. Truax was a 1941 graduate of Syracuse University, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. Mr. Truax was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Fulton and the Fulton Rotary Club. He was a member of the Fulton Historical Society. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Norma Tilden; a son. Thomas T. of Acton, Mass.; a daughter. Katherine Truax-Cook of Rochester; a sister, Arlene T. Bock of Fulton; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 in Asbury First United Methodist Church. Rochester. Burial will be in Mount Adnah Cemetery. Fulton.

  Mr. Truax was graduated from Syracuse university, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He is a veteran of four years service with the Third army and Ninth Air Force during the war.

  Irvin R. "Butch" Taylor, 67, of Clay, died Friday at Seneca Hill Manor in Volney after a brief illness. A native of Fulton, he resided in Clay for many years. Butch retired as an elementary school teacher from Soule Road Elementary School in Liverpool after 24 years, and he previously taught in the North Rose-Wolcott School District. He was predeceased by his father, Elmer E. Taylor, in 1994. Surviving are his mother, Marion Foster Taylor of Fulton; two sisters, Frances Sullivan and Lisa Taylor, both of Fulton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be private, with burial at Mt. Adnah Cemetery in Fulton. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

  Services for Eleanor Bettinger Ayer, 73, formerly of Limberlost Lane, Manlius, who died Saturday at St. Clair Hospital, Mount Lebanon, Pa., will be Wednesday at a time to be  announced at the Richard F. Ayer Funeral Home, Cazenovia. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
  There will be no calling hours.
  Born in Chittenango, Mrs. Ayer was a resident of Syracuse and Manlius before moving to Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1985. She was the widow of Harold A. Ayer, who died in 1982.
  Surviving are a daughter, Linda Ayer Hill of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Mrs. Ayer is a graduate of Chittenango High School and Central City Business School and has recently been employed in the office of the Diepress Company. Mr. Ayer is also an employee of the Diepress Company.

  Whitelaw, June 21—Merle Coon, master of Lenox Grange, at present a merchant in Waterville, and Miss Hazel Allis of New Boston road, were married yesterday by Rev. Merton K. Merwin, pastor of the Presbyterian church, in this hamlet. Attendants were Gleen Coon, a brother of the bridegroom, and Miss Margaret Bogardus of Canastota.
  The bridegroom moved to Waterville a few weeks ago. His bride is a daughter of Floyd V. Allis and the late Anna Bettinger Allis. She is a graduate of the State School at Morrisville and has been teaching for the past year in the New Boston district. The couple will live at Waterville.

 - Death Announcement (Rome Daily Sentinel, NY, Wednesday, November 13, 1957)
  — Eldred Bettinger, 35, RD1, Chittenango, died of skull fractures last night when his tractor-trailer went off Route 20, about three miles west of Bridgewater. Troopers believe he fell asleep at the wheel. They found his body submerged in the waters of a roadside creek, pinned between
the trailer and cab, about three hours after the 8 pjn. mishap. His death brought to 55 the total of persons killed this year in vehicle accidents in Oneida County.

  LOWVILLE — June E. Allen, 89, formerly of Trinity Avenue, died at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility early Sunday morning, November 27, 2011 with her family and third floor nursing home staff at her side.
  She was born on June 17, 1922 in Utica, NY the daughter of the late Wyan L. and Mayme A. Bidwell Rockwood. June graduated from Watertown High School in 1939. She married Gorham H. Allen on September 24, 1939 in Philadelphia, NY with the Rev. E. Earl Eaton, officiating. Gorham died on April 5, 2009.
  June helped in the office at their business, R.D. Allen & Son, Sand Gravel and Ready Mix Concrete in Watson. She worked for Grant's Department store for a short time.
  She and Gorham owned and operated Allen's Liquors also in Watson where the couple lived before they moved to Lowville.
  Mrs. Allen was involved with the Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls. June was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her roses and flowers, crocheting, knitting and reading. She and Gorham enjoyed spending winters in Florida and senior bus trips. June was also an avid bowler and participated in the women's league in Boonville and Lowville.
  Surviving are her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Judith Hirschy of Lowville; Sandra and Richard Arthur of Martinsburg; Barbara and Frank Corbett of Glenfield and Lori and Alan Dening of Lowville; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Bette Lampson and son-in-law, Junior J. Hirschy, two sisters and a brother.
  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at the Sundquist Funeral Home at 1:00pm with Rev. Ken Landis, pastor of the First Mennonite Church officiating. Burial will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

  Funeral service for Arthur Jay Scriber, husband of Kate Calvert Scriber, who died Sunday, was held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Scoville funeral home with the Rev. Artemas P. Goodwin of West Baptist church officiating. The body was placed in the vault at Riverside cemetery for burial in Hannibal cemetery in the Spring.
   Bearers were Charles Putnam, Dr. C. Fred Peckham, Lee Goodness, Charles Lower, Calvin Bond and Richard Desena.

  Arthur J. Scriber of Adams Basin, Monroe County, and Miss Kate H. Calvert of this city were united in marriage yesterday afternoon by the Rev. C. S. Savage. The wedding occurred at 2:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, No. 185 West Third Street. Miss May Worden was bridesmaid and Charls R. Kerr, of Adams Basin was best man. A largely attended wedding reception followed the ceremony after which the happy couple left on a wedding tour.
  The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Calvert and the groom is a son of Rev. M. S. Scriber, pastor of the Baptist Church at Adams Basin and formerly of Oswego. He conducts a general store at Adams Basin where he and his bride will make their future home.

  Lois J. Scriber, 86, of Oswego, daughter of the late Arthur and Kate (Calvert) Scriber. She graduated from Crane School of Music, affiliated with Potsdam Normal School. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1942 and received her Master's in 1946. She was a music teacher for over 35 years, retiring from Kingsford Park School. In 1960 she was an exchange teacher on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, where she taught chorus, band, and English. She was a member and organist of the West Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was also the Director of the Adult and Youth Choirs and Handbell Ringers. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, a Professional Women Educators Assoc. Lois Directed the Philomelian Alumnae Society for over 25 years. For many summers she was a participant at Chautaugua Institute. Surviving are a brother, Carroll (Katherine) Scriber of Brooktondale, NY; two nephews, Richard (Christine) Scriber of Brooktondale, NY; James Scriber of Clyde, NY; niece, Jean Scriber of Slaterville, NY; her dearest friend and care giver, Sue Mahigian of Troy, NY; several grand-nieces and nephews.
