Irving. D. Pett, 67, of North Columbia Road, was found dead in a field on his farm Monday evening, June 3, by his wife. Cornor Upright said Pett died of multiple rib fractures and a ruptured spleen and liver.. An autopsy was performed by Faxton Hospital pathologist Dr. Legrand Thomas.
Pett apparently fell from the wagon he had been operating and then was run over by the machine. He was found at about six o'clock by his wife, who had last seen him at one o'clock.
Pett was chairman and director af the Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation District past chairman of the Southern Herkimer County Republican Club and was an organizer of the Herkimer County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Pett was born Dec. 20, 1901 in the Town of Columbia. He was married to Irene Robertson, who died in 1929. He was later married to Laura Reed in Alton, N.. Y., Dec. 31, 1929,
He leaves his wife; four daughter, Mrs. Howarrd (Edith) Dunn of Richfield Springs, Mrs. Alfred (Julia) Llewelyn of Richfield Springs, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Frederick of Ilion RD, Mrs. Edmund (Irene) Zuis of Auburn; a son, Leonard of Ilion RD 2; a sister, Miss Lilliam Pett of Frankfort; a brother Harold of Ilion RD, Gorge Road.

ILION - Mrs. Irene E Pett, wife of Irving D. Pett of North Columbia, died in Ilion Hospital Saturday night following a two weeks illness.
She was born in German Flatts Sept. 30, 1900, and had always lived in this vicinity. She attended the North Columbia Church.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Edith, Leonard and Dorothy; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Robertson of Mohawk; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Purdy of Mohawk, and three brothers, Earl Sidney and Kenneth Robertson of Mohawk.
Funeral services will be condusted from the home by the Rev. Earl D. Ridgeway tomorrow at 2:30, standard time, and burial will be at Mohawk.

SAUQUOIT - Adlai B. Cole, 84, of 3091 Mohawk St, died October 29, 1983 in St. Luke's Hospital.
He was horn in Richfield Springs, NY. He married the former Lillian Storey. He was self-employed as an electrician
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda Gaskell of Sauquoit, Dolores Julian of San Francisco; one brother, Harold of New Hartford; one sister, Caroline Robbins of Cayuga; one granddaughter, Sherl Gaskell of Sauquoit; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 10 o'clock from the J. Donald Smith Funeral Home, Sauquoit. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Elmer Miller Cole died suddenly at his home in New Berlin last Friday.
He was born in Clinton 37 years ago, a son of Emerson and Sarah Skinner Cole. At an early age he moved to Willowvale, where he spent his childhood. Mr. Cole later lived in Sauquoit for three years before taking up his residence in New Berlin two years ago.
The deceased married Miss Dorothy Royce, January 23, 1932.
He leaves his wife, two children, Eugene, and Shirley; two sisters, Miss Adlai Cole and Mrs. Caroline Robblns; and three brothers, B. Cole, Sauquoit; Emerson Cole, Garrettsvllle; and Harold Cole, Fort McClellan, Ala.
The funeral was held in New Berlin Tuesday with burial in the Fairview Cemetery, that village.

APOPKA, Fla.—Bernice Amelia Butler passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the age of 100.
Bernice was born Feb. 11, 1914, to LeRoy and Lottie (Castle) Barton.
She attended the District 3, one-room Texas Schoolhouse in the town of New Lisbon, and the Morris Central School.
She married Emerson C. Cole on Sept. 12, 1929. They divorced in 1956.
She then married George L Butler on May 28, 1960. George predeceased her in 1981.
Bernice spent most of her life in the Oneonta area until 1985, when she divided her time between her home in West Laurens and her home in Florida.
Bernice was a member of the NYS Retirement Association, Hartwick American Auxiliary, Winter Garden VFW#4305, AARP, and former member of the West Laurens Fire Department Auxiliary.
Bernice was a gentle lady with spirit who loved dancing, country music, Danny O’Donnell music, crossword puzzles, and snowmobiling. She kept great scrapbooks, crocheted afghans for the veterans’ homes and her family, cross-stitched and embroidered tablecloths, made quilts, and sewed clothing for her family. She enjoyed watching the wildlife, the birds, deer, and turkeys. Bernice asked that her appreciation be passed on to the family members and friends who kept in touch in the recent years.
Bernice was a homemaker until World War II. During the war, she was a member of the Ground Observer Corps and worked in the Bendix MICA Defense Plant in Oneonta. After the war, she worked for a short time at the Jonathan Logan Dress Company in Oneonta. She then worked in the dietary department at the Homer Folks Hospital, retiring in 1971.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Cook of Apopka, Fla., and Doris Martin (Bill) of West Laurens; one sister-in-law, Ellen Barton, of Salisbury Center; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Emerson L. Cole, and Daughter, Zaida M. Weldon; brothers, LeRoy and Burton; sisters, Alma, Charlotte, Marjorie, Maude, Gladys, and Ruth; very special friends Matt and Midge Heredia; and many close friends in New York and Florida.
In keeping with the wishes of Bernice, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a committal service at the convenience of the family at a later day.

Douglas C. Robbins. 41, Sauquoit R. D. 1, was killed about 1:35 yesterday morning when his auto struck a pole between Sauquoit and Chadwicks.
Accidental death due a "crushing chest injury" was the verdict of Dr. Preston R. Clark, coroner.
Dr. Clark said there would be no inquest. No witnesses could be found who saw the crash.
Mr. Robbins was driving south on Route 8, according to Trooper Stephen Hues, New Hartford Substation, when the car left the right side of the highway, ran along a ditch and finally hit a pole.
The auto overturned pinning Mr. Robbins to the ground.
The sound of the crash attracted the attention of of Glenn Sherman at a gasoline station near the scene. With the help of a passerby he tipped the Robbins car back
on its wheels.

EAGLE BAY - Mrs. Marguerite Hansen, formerly of this village, died April 28 in her home in Fort Lauderdale. Fla
She was born in Columbia Center, daughter of Hiram and Joann Fretts Skinner. She was married to Charles Hansen in 1935. The couple lived in Eagle Bay for 30 years. Mr Hansen died in 1972. Mrs Hansen had since lived in Fort Lauderdale.
She was a member of Old Forge Chapter OES and the Ladies Auxillary of the Eagle Bay Fire Department.
She leaves a son, Peter, Fountain Colo; a daughter Joanna Hildenbrandt, Boynton Beach, Fl; her mother, Joanna Binney, Richfield Springs, two brothers John Skinner and Hiram Skinner, Richfield Springs, four sisters, Ada Parteko, Sauquoit, Lula Welch, Clark Mills, Mrs Elah (Lola) Folts, Richfield Springs, Mrs Arthur (Barbara) Baker, Old Forge.

Charles P. Hansen of Eagle Bay, father of Mrs. Edward (JoAnna) Hildenbrandt, Rome, died Saturday in Buffalo.
He was born in New York City and attended Utica schools. In 1935 he married Marguerite Skinner in Ilion. He was president of the Eagle Bay Service Co. Inc.
He was a member of the Church of the Lakes, Inlet, and the Eagle Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife and daughter are a son, Peter E. Hansen, Eagle Bay; three sisters, Mrs. John (Anna) Palmieri and Mrs. Fred (Grace) Clute, both of Hollywood, Fla., and Cornelia Steinburg of Whittier, Cal., and a brother, Frank Hansen, of New York City.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Big Moose Community Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in charge of the Ortner Funeral Home in Utica.

Ada Skinner Parteko Gajdzis, 79, of Sauquoit, died Jan. 27, 1998 at St. Luke's-Memorial Hospital Center, after a brief illness. She was born in the Town of Columbia, daughter of Hiram J. and Joanna Fretts Skinner. In 1952 she was married to Lewis Parteko. He died in 1962. In October of 1980 she was married to Joseph Gajdzis. Mr. Gajdzis died in December of 1990.
Mrs. Gajdzis .was employed by the Radio Receiver Department of General Electric Co. and later by Utica State Hospital, retiring in 1980. She was a resident of Sauquoit for over 40 years.
She leaves a son, John Reile of Oriskany Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Patricia) Henault of Las Vegas, Mrs. Perry (Mary J.) Jones of two brothers, John Skinner and Hiram Skinner, both of Richfield Springs; three sisters, Lulu Welch of Mohawk, Lola Knorr of Sebastian, Fla., and Barbara Baker of Forestport and Sarasota, Fla. She was predeceased by a son, Frank J. Reile on Feb. 9, 1996; a brother, Clayton Skinner and a sister, Marguerite Hansen.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the J. Donald Smith Funeral Home, Sauquoit, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Interment will be in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery, Columbia Center.
Donations in Mrs. Gajdzis' memory may be made to the Cemetery of the Reformed Church in Columbia Center.

RICHFIELD SRPINGS - Elah H. Folts, 67, passed away at his home Thursday evening, August 24, after an extended illness.
He was born on September 5, 1914 in Little Falls, the son of Matthew and Leta Voorhees Folts. He married the former Lola Skinner on October 27, 1936 in Mohawk. For 20 years he worked for the Operating Engineers Union in Utica. In 1960, he started Folt's Fruit Market ar Routes 20 and 28. He retired from the business in 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Lola, a son, Joel Folts of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Joan) Skinner, R.d. 1 Richfield Springs; a brother, Earl Folts of Fort Plain, a sister, Mrs. Melda Beople of Little Falls; five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 27 at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield springs. Interment in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, Columbia Center., Friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday evening 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Rescue Squad.

John F. Skinner
RICHFIELD SPRINGS
John F. Skinner age 86 of McKoons Road passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 19, 2007 in his home. John was born on May 22, 1921 in the Town of Columbia a son of the late Hiram and Joanna Fretts Skinner. A lifelong area resident he graduated from Richfield Springs High School. In January of 1943, John was inducted into the United States Army. He spent six months in training at the Walter Reed Medical Center to serve his country during World War II as a Medical Technician and he was honorably discharged in 1945.
On October 3, 1943 he married Olga Tolopka in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs a loving union of fifty seven years until her passing on December 26, 2000. John was a dairy farmer and the owner operator of Cozy Haven Farm retiring in 1989. For forty years John was the Town Justice of the Town of Columbia until 1997. John was very active within his community he was a leader with the Herkimer County 4-H, a member of the Richfield Springs Dairymens League, a 52 year member of Richfield Springs Lodge No. 482 F&AM, a member of the Consistory and a 32 nd Degree Mason in the Valley of Utica Scottish Rite and he was also a member Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915 V.F.W, Herkimer. John was a friend to many and he will never be forgotten.
Surviving him are a son John M. and his wife Memory Buck-Skinner of Richfield Springs; a daughter Janet Elliott and her husband Gary of the Town of Columbia; a daughter-in-law Patricia Skinner of Ilion; a brother Hiram Skinner of Richfield Springs; two sisters Lola Folts of Florida and Barbara Baker of Forestport and eight grandchildren; Lisa, Ryan, Michael and Katie Elliott, Laura, Matt, Jackie and Danny Skinner. Besides his wife Olga and his parents he was preceded in death by a son Paul, a brother Clayton and three sisters Marguerite Hansen, Lula Welch, and Ada Gadjzis.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday June 25 th at 10:00 a.m. . in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Johns memory to the Cedarville Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Richfield Springs Lodge No. 482 F&AM will meet at the funeral home on Sunday to perform ritualistic services at 7:45 p.m.

"RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Olga T. Skinner, 79, of McKoons Road, passed away on Dec. 26, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was born July 12, 1922, in the town of Columbia, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Martenue Tolopka. She married John F. Skinner on Oct. 3, 1943. She was one of the first graduates of Richfield Springs High School at the Main Street location. Olga worked alongside her husband, John, on the dairy farm. They raised three children, John, Paul and Janet. She was a member of the Millers Mills Grange and was active in supporting 4-H club activities. She is remembered for serving homemade ice cream after the children played baseball in the haymow and making sure all the deer hunters had plenty to eat on Thanksgiving Day. She is survived by her husband, John; a son, John M. Skinner of Houston; a daughter, Janet Elliott, and her husband, Gary, of the town of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Patricia Skinner of Cedarville; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Mathew and Jackie Skinner, Katie, Michael, Lisa, Ryan Elliott and Laura Skinner. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Skinner, in 1991. The family will receive friends and relatives in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The bride wore bridal blush princess satin, with a yoke of heirloom lace, a double tiered veil of illusion falling from, a tiara of imported wax blossoms and carried white roses.
Her matron of honor, Mrs. Charles Hansen, Utica, sister of the groom wore white silk jersey and carried pink roses. The best man was Ralph Skinner, a cousin of the groom. The bridesmaids were Miss Nettie Galowaty and Miss Olga Cembrinski, the ushers Hiram Skinner, Jr., of Herkimer, brother of the groom and Nicholas Kleban.
A reception was held at the Millstone Inn. Mr. Skinner will soon enter the army.

Hiram J. Skinner Ilion High School 1943, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2014 in the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. He had the support and comfort of his family, Hospice and the Otsego Manor Staff. He was born on August 3, 1923 in Columbia Center, son of the late Hiram J. Sr. and Joanna Fretts Skinner. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Ilion High School. Hiram was an honorably discharged US Air Force veteran of World War II. On February 26, 1944 he was united in marriage with the former Leanor Helmer in Herkimer. Together they shared a devoted union of forty-one years until her passing on November 17, 1985.
A well-known area car dealer since 1945, Mr. Skinner first owned and operated Skinner & Welch Auto Dealership until 1962. He then started the Skinner & Damulis Ford Dealership in Richfield Springs. He retired in 2014 after sixty-nine years of outstanding service to the Richfield and surrounding areas.
Hiram had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs. He had a strong sense of community where he was a member of Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free and Accepted Masons, Richfield Springs Rotary International, the Richfield Springs Zoning Board and the Richfield Springs Veterans Club. In his leisure time he enjoyed Hunting, fishing, playing golf and puttering around the house but most of all was building his log cabin at Big Moose in the Adirondack.
Mr. Skinner will always be remembered as an honest, upright and caring man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his companion Marie Hameister, a son Roger and his wife Mary Skinner of Whitesboro, two daughters, Carol and her husband the Reverend Kenneth Dingman of Fort Plain, Marie and her husband Vincent Guerra of Herkimer, two sisters, Barbara Baker of Old Forge, Lola Knorr of FL, five granddaughters, Melanie Kimball and her husband Jim, Cynthia Lamanna and her husband Sam, Sarah DeMarse and her husband Mike, Leanor Guerra and June, and Rebecca Root and her husband Chad, four great grandsons, two great granddaughters, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, wife Leanor and loving companion Nancy Meehan he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and John Skinner, three sisters, Marguerite Hansen, Ada Gajdzis and Lula Welsh. Calling hours for Mr. Skinner will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Mark Ioset, pastor officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the US Air Force will follow in the Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery, town of Columbia. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Community Center, the Church of Christ Uniting or the charity of your choice envelopes will be available at the funeral home. RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Leanor Helmer (Toots) Springer, 63, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 17, 1985.
She was born in East Herkimer, on June 8, 1922, the daughter of Clyde and Delia LaRue Helmer. She was educated in Herkimer Schools. She married Hiram J Skinner on February 26, 1944 in Utica. The Skinners moved to Richfield Springs in 1946 when her husband founded Skinner and Welch. Mrs Skinner was the corporate secretary from 1946-1962. In 1962 the name was changed to Skinner & Damulis. She was a former member ofg the O.E.S.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Roger Skinner of Herkimer; two daughters, Mrs Kennethh (Carol Dingman) of Fort Plain. Mrs Vincent (Varie) Guerra of Henrietta; four brothers. Arthur Helemr of Herkimer, Albert Helmer of Utica, and Wilfred Helmer of Herkimer; five grandaughteres, Melanie, Cynthis, Rebecca, Sarah and Leanor; nieces and nephews. She was prececeased by a brother Clyde.
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Wednesday, November 20 at the Church of Christ Uniting, Church St. Richfield Springs. Interment Columbia Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs on Tuesday evening 7-9 p m.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Mrs. Lillian A. Cotton, 56, of R. D. 1, Richfield Springs, died today in Herkimer Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born Oct. 28, 1914 in the town of Columbia, the daughter of Leo and Elizabeth Skinner Hilts. A life resident of the town of Columbia, she was married to George P. Cotton on Nov. 28, 1935 in that town.
She was a member of the Dennison Corners Community Church. Surviving are her parents, of R. D. 2. Ilion; her husband; one son. the Rev. Edmund Cotton, Endicott; one daughter. Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Goodding. R. D. 2. Richfield Springs: one sister. Mrs. William (Matie) Vrooman. R.D. 1, Richfield Springs: four ! grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dennison Corners Community Church, with her son, educational director at Union Center Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.
Calling hours at the Fenner Funeral Home, are 7 to 9 tonight, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The family requests memorial gifts to Dennison Corners Community Church.
