- Newspaper Article, (Syracuse Journal, NY, Friday, Feburary 19, 1932)
Missing since late Saturday night when she jumped from a window in her home and fled after threatening "never to be seen again," Mrs. Lillian Perry, 35, of 330 S Collingwood av., is the object of a widespread search by police today.
Mysterious telephone calls and letter which have been received by Harold H. Perry since his wife disappeared have caused him to express fear for her safety.
Mrs. Perry fled following an argument with her husband over financial affairs. Mr. Perry, a sewing machine repairman by trade, has found employment slack since the first of the year and faces possible loss of his home.
At the height of the argument, according to Perry, his wife suddenly raised a window in one of the rooms on the first floor of their home and jumped out. Her action was so quick, he said, he did not have a chance to stop her and before he could reach the street she had disappeared.
A canvass of his relatives and friends' homes the following day brought no results and it was not until Monday that he received an inkling his wife was alive.
A letter, postmarked Syracuse, was left at the home Monday morning. The full contents of the message Perry refused to reveal, but admitted it was from his wife and that she wrote he would "never see her again".
The following day Perry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Perry, of Herkimer, received a letter from Mrs. Perry telling of financial difficulties. The letter was postmarked Buffalo.
Wednesday night a neighbor received a telephone call from a woman who refused to reveal her identity. The voice on the other end of the line said: "Tell Harold, Lillian is injured and may have to go to a hospital." All efforts to trace the call proved to no avail and the neighbor then relayed the message to Perry.
The same night Perry received a phone call from an unidentified woman warning hrm not to notify police of his wife's absence. He declared he could not recognize the voice as that of anyone whom he knew.
