Wilma Wilson

   Settlement for $6,500 of claims against the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad arising from a Rochester woman's death and injuries to her husband and 3-year-old son in a grade-crossing accident last Dec. 18 near Cambridge, Ohio, was made known yesterday in papers filed in the county clerk's office.
  The case of the infant, Thomas R. Stevens, was settled for $2,000 with approval of Supreme Court Justice John Van Voorhis. That of his father, Ralph H. Stevens, was compromised for $3,000 and the action over the instant death of Mrs. Wilma Stevens was settled for $1,500. The child and his mother were riding in a car driven by Stevens when it was struck by a train. Harlan F. Calkins appeared as counsel for Stevens.

  Mr. and Mrs. Stevens are to make their home at 25 Broesel St., Rochester, where he is employed at Eastman Kodak Company. The groom, only son of Marhlon Stevens of Albion, was graduated from Albion High School and attended Mechanics Institute in Rochester.

  Ruth (Williams) Getman, 80, wife, of Clarence R. Getman of North Street, Cheshire, died Wednesday at Valley View Nursing Home, Lenox. Death followed a long illness.
  Born in Buckland, Nov. 12m 1901, she was a daughter of Carl and Emma (Farmer) Williams. Mrs. Getman had lived in Cheshire for more than 50 years.
  She was tax collector for the town of cheshire for 17 years and was a clerk for the Cheshire Water Company from 1947 to 1957. She was also treasurer of Getman Insurance Company in Cheshire for many years.
  Mrs. Getman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cheshire, and its Women's Auxiliary, Cheshire Grange 17, and Cheshire Senior Citizens Club.
  Besides her husband, to whom she would have been married 49 years in November, she leaves a son, Richard D. Getman of North Springfield, Va., a brother, Ralph F. Williams of Dalton; a sister, Doris Easter of Syracuse, N.Y. and two grandchildren.
  A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Cheshire. Burial will be in the Cheshire Cemetery.

Marhlon Getman, 92 of Canal Street, Suffield and formarly of Sharren Lane, beloved husband of Laura (JHarrington) Getman, died Wednesday, (January 3, 2001) at St. Francis Hospital. born Jan. 2, 1909, son of the late Ralph L. and Elmira (Fuller) Getman, he was a former resident of Cheshire, MA, moving to Enfield in 1960. He attended grammar school in Cheshire, MN; graduate of Adams High School, class of 1928 and was a graduate of Berkshire Business College, class of 1930. Marhlon was employed by the former Cooper Coal Co. of Pittsfield, MA for 30 years and later was employed as an accountant by A.P. Wagenkencht Co,, later for Albany Engineering Systems, retiring in 1974. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater and a life member of the Patrick F. Triggs Post #1501 VFW of Enfield. He was past Master and membe rof Upton Lodge A.F. & A.M. for over 70 years, member of Ionic Shapter #100 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Commander of St. Paul Commandery #40 Knights Templar, Morning Star Royal Arch Chapter, member of Melha Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Springfield, MA, past Master of the Grange of Cheshire, MA. Marhlon was a member of the United Methodist Church of Enfield. Besides his wife of 63 years, Marhlon is survived by two taughters, Charlotte Donovan and her husband Jim of Fairfax, VA and Betty Ann Lavigne and her husband Oaul of Enfield; four grandchildren, Sharren Zetterholm, April Davenport, Steven Brunell and Jeffrey Brunell; and five great grandchildren, Robert, David, Tyler and Victoria Brunell, Jenna and Ryan Zetterholm; and eight step grandchildren. ....

  Laura (Harrington) Getman, 90, formerly of Sharren Lane, Enfield, died Monday, (December 17, 2001) at the Suffield House in Suffield. She was the beloved wife of the late D. Marhlon Getman, and daughter of the late Gilbert A. and Alice (Greason) Harrington. Born in Adams, MA, she moved to Enfield in 1960 and took employment as an accountant for ten years at Fabers, Inc., retiring in 1970. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church of Enfield, Ionic Chapter No. 100 Order of the Eastern Star, past Matron of Stafford Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Cheshire, MA, North Central Connecticut Chapter No. 1209 A.A.R.P. and the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 1501 Enfield. She attended Adams Schools, was a graduate of Bliss Business College in North Adams, MA, played the organ for the Methodist Church in Cheshire, MA for ten years, was 4-H leader of Cheshire, MA for 12 years and reported for a number of years for the Berkshire Eagle while living in Cheshire, MA. Laura is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Donovan and her husband, Jim of Fairfax, VA, and Betty Ann Lavigne and her husband, Paul of Enfield; four grandchildren, Sharren Zetterholm, April Davenport, and Steven and Jeffrey Brunell; five great-grandchildren, Robert David, Tyler and Victoria Brunell, and Jenna and Ryan Zetterholm; and eight step-grandchildren. Funeral will be Thurs, Dec 20, 10 a.m., at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, followed by the burial at 1:30 p.m. at Cheshire Cemetery, Cheshire, MA.

  Judith Ogden Henry
  Judith Ogden Henry of Piney Creek Farm, North East, MD, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004. She was 83. Mrs. Henry was the widow of Howard G. Henry. Her first husband, Lt. William D. Getman died in World War II.
  A member of the Class of 1941 at Vassar College, Mrs. Henry taught at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, DE from 1944-1953. In 1950 she played for the United States All American Field Hockey team in an international tournament in South Africa.. She remained an active hockey and basketball player until she moved to North East, MD in 1953.
  She was active in local affairs, mentoring disadvantaged students in reading and working at an adult day care center among many other activities. She worked at the White House beginning with the Reagan administration answering mail and sending out acknowledgments in calligraphy, a skill she taught herself.
  She and her husband were instrumental in the creation of the Upper Bay Museum and were active in St. Mary Anne's Church and the Upper Chesapeake Watershed Association. In 1968 she drove a 1911 Packard from New York to San Francisco, the first of many cross-country and international trips she took in vintage automobiles.
  She is survived by a son, Christopher Getman of New Haven, CT; a daughter, Louise Kamihachi of Alexandria, VA; a step-son, Laurence Henry of Long Beach, CA; sisters, Deborah Ogden of San Francisco, CA, and Phyllis Merryman of Bloomfield Hills, MI; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Clark Ogden; a sister, Caroline Glass; and a step-son, Paul G. Henry.
  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 14, 2004, at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD. Father Samuel Hartman will officiate. Interment will follow services at St. Mary Anne's Cemetery, North East, MD.
  In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to St. Mary Anne's Church in North East, MD or to a charity of one's choice.

Marriage Notes for Elizabeth Clapsaddle Getman and Robert Wendel Taylor MD

  Miss Elizabeth C. Getman, daughter of Mrs. Albert Alton Getman of 317 Highland Avenue, Syracuse and Skaneateles and the late Dr. Getman, was married to Pfc. Robert W. Taylor, Jr., U.S.A. M.C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Taylor of Auburn last night at 8 o'clock in St. James Episcopal Church at Skaneateles by the rector, the Rev. Henry Scott Miller. The altar was set with vases of white gladioli and lighted by white tapers in tall candelabra. Richard French, organist, played.
  The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Damon L. Getman of Oneonta. Her ivory satin wedding gown was fashioned with a heart shaped neckline and long sleeves, and a long train. The bride's fulllength tulle veil was arranged with a flat lace cap. The bridal bouquet was of stephanotis. The maid of honor, Miss Louise Getman, sister of the bride, wore a pale aqua crepe gown with a raspberry trim. An aqua ruffle down the back of the gown was trimmed with raspberry.
  The bridesmaids, Mrs. Richard Wiles of Syracuse and Miss Katherine S. LaSell of Whitinsville, Mass., wore gowns fashioned like that of the maid of honor, in raspberry with aqua trim. The attendants carried bouquets of pale yellow gladioli tipped with raspberry. The best man was George P. Taylor, brother of the bridegroom. The ushers were A./S. E. Wayne Wilkins, U. S. N., of Boston, Mass.; Pfc. Barkley Beidleman, U. S. A., of Hanover, Pa.; William C. Tallman of Cambridge, Mass.; Ensign W. Dean Wallace, U. S. N. R., of Camillus; Albert A. Getman, Jr., brother of the bride.
  The bride's mother, Mrs. Getman, wore yellow crepe with a draped skirt and had a shoulder bouquet of small orchids, two in bronze and one in green. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Taylor, wore a rust color gown with a lace bodice and chiffon skirt. Her shoulder bouquet was of orchids. There was a small reception in the Skaneateles Country Club where bouquets of white gladioli decorated the mantel. A bridal cake centered a table trimmed with flowers and lighted by candelabra. Among out-of-town guests: A/S and Mrs. E. Wayne Wilkins, A/S and Mrs. Joseph P. Taylor, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William Kerr, A/S George Hemstead, all of Boston, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. William C. Tallman of Cambridge, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. George K. Bird of Dedham, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Damon L. Getman and sons, Damon Getman, Jr., and Frank Getman, Mrs. Herbert C.   When the couple left on a trip to Boston, Mass., the bride wore a teal blue wool suit, with mink bows on the pocket, a blue velveteen hat with a bow and had a shoulder bouquet of white orchids. The bride was graduated from Miss Masters School in Dobbs Ferry and attended Smith College for two years. The bridegroom attended Northwood School in Lake Placid and was graduated from Williams College where he was affiliated with Theta Delta Chi. He will be graduated from Harvard University College of Medicine on Sept 25 and commissioned a first lieutenant in the Army Reserve. 'The couple will live in Winston Salem, N. C, where the bridegroom will interne upon graduation.
