Mary A. Getman, 92, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. B. Dibble on South River Street, this morning at 4 o' clock after a lingering illness of five years.
Mary Hemingway , daughter of Josiah Hemingway and Elizabeth(Lawrence) Hemingway was born September 27, 1833 near Toronto, Canada. At the age of eleven she moved with her parents to Rosendale, Wis. Here she experienced the most severe hardships of pioneer life. She was the oldest of eleven children. On April 10, 1853 she was married to Conrad Getman at Rosendale. To them were born six children, the oldest, Delbert, dying in infancy. The children are: Mrs. Wm. Roebuck, Mrs. C. B. Dibble of Austin, William of Kasson, George of Hawley, and Mrs. E. S. Blowers who died June 16, 1899. They emigrated to Minnesota in a covered wagon early in May in the year 1868 and settled in Kasson.
After the death of Mr. Getman, April 26, 1879, Mrs. Getman went to live with her daughter, Mrs. C. B. Dibble and she she remained here til the death of her youngest daughter, Mrs. E. S. Blowers, who left three small daughters. She entered the motherless home and cared for the family until the girls grew to womanhood and got married. Then she returned to the home of daughter, Mrs. Dibble where she was cared for the last seven years of her life.
Besides her children, the deceased is survived by two brothers, Aaron Hemingway of Owatonna; George Hemingway of Waseca, three sisters, Mrs. P. G. Sheldon and Mrs. J. L. Stout of Gentry, Ark., and Mrs. W. H. Lansing of Kasson, sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
Grandma Getman, as many called her, was a woman of sterling character and was beloved by all who knew her. Her willing hand was always ready to help the needy. She was a member of the Methodist church since early young womanhood.
The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Warner Johnson at the home of C. B. Dibble on South River Street, Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, and interment will be made in the family lot in Kasson.
