 - Wedding Announcement (Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Friday, April 27, 1900)
  The marriage of Miss Nellie Herrick and Raymond A. Vosburgh was celebrated last evening at the Church of Christ on Howell street, which was filled with guests and relatives. The ceremony was performed at 8:30 o'clock by the Rev. Mr. Vosburgh, father of the groom, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Neal, pastor of the church. The bride was attended by a maid of honor, Miss Susan Capple, and six maids. Misses Jean McDonald, Ethel McDonald, Mary and Maud Tunstle, Roberta Vere and Augusta Herrick, sister of the bride, all of this city. The bride was attired in cream silk, with a demi train, and she carried bride roses. The maids were gowned in white lawn, and their flowers were white carnations. Two little flower girls, also dressed in white, carried big baskets of flowers. The ushers were Herbert Fulton, George S. McMillan, Donald McDonald and W. G. Bancroft. The best man was Lou Vosburgh, brother of the groom. A reception and supper followed at the home of the groom's parents at No. 39 Sumner park. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Matilda Herrick.

  Mrs. Mae Vosburgh Becraft, formerly of Utica, died March 14, 1954 at her home in Ravena, folloeing a long illness.
  She was born August 19, 1884 at Utica the daughter of Worth and Elizabeth Enfield Vosburgh. She attended Utica schools and graduated from the Utica Advanced school on July 12, 1924. She was married to Edward Becraft at Utica. She left here about 20 years ago.
  She is survived by her husband, one daughter Miss Mae Elizabeth Becraft, Ravena; two sisers, Mrs. Harry Markle, Frankfort and Mrs. Joseph Guido, Whitesboro; one brother, John Vosburgh, Waterviliet, several nieces and nephews.
  The body will attive Wednesday afternoon at the Owen Funeral Home, Frankfort. Friends may call Wednesday evening. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery.

  Edward Beacraft of Oneida completed a term in Onondaga County Penitentiary this morning on a bad check charge and was arrested by Detective Frank J. O'Brien on a charge of disposing of mortgaged property. Otto A. Rich of Rome was the complainant who alleged that Beacraft sold an automobile which bad not been paid for. Arrangements were made to settle the case and the complaint was dismissed

  Patrolman Ellsworth Vosburgh. 55, 1314 Noyes, died in Faxton Hospital last night as a result of a fall in his home two weeks ago Dr. James G. Douglas attributed his death to injuries received in the fall. Vosburgh suffered a concussion of the brain. He resumed duty a few days later and continued until Monday when he collapsed while riding a prowl car in the downtown area.
  One of the largest men on the police force, Vosburgh was usually assigned to duty in Car 11, He was  appointed Mar. 16.1929. Vosburgh was born in Utica, Apr. 6, 1893, a son of the late Worth D. and Nellie Reager Vosburgh. After local schooling he worked with his father for a time as a milk man. He worked for several other dairies before his appointment.
  He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Hohn R. Creeden Police Benovelent Association. He married Miss Mary McGough here 25 years ago.
  Besides his wife he leaves a son, Dea, Uitca; a brother, John A, Waterviliet; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Becraft, South Bethlehem, Mrs. Harry Markel, Frankfort Center, and Mrs. Joseph Guido, Utica and a grandaughter.

   Mrs. Mary Jane Vosburgh. 67, of 1431 Genesee St., died Dec. 1, 1958. in a local hospital after a long illness.
  She was born in Utica, Nov. 8, 189,. daughter of Henry and Margaret Haley McGough. She was married to Ellsworth D. Vosburgh in 1914. Mr. Vosburgh died in 1938.
  Since 1922 she had been in charege of the employe's cafeteria at the Utica State Hospital.
  She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the New York State Civil Service Employe's Association.
  She leaves a son, Joseph Dea Vosburgh a member of the Utica Police Department; three sisters. Miss Elizabeth G. McGough and Mrs. Thomas McElhinney, both of Utica, Mrs. John Zobel of Whitesboro; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren several neices and nephews.
  The funeral will be held at 8:30 Friday from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., and at 9 from St. Patrick's Church where a solemn requiem high Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

  A farewell party was given Friday night in honor of John Vosburgh at the home of his brother, Dea Vosburgh 1216 Kathleen street. The house was prettily decorated with American flags and covers were set for 25. In honor of his departure with Troop G First cavalry. he was presented a purse. Violin solos were given by Miss Katherine McHugh, while Mrs. Mary Vosburgh played the accompaniments on the piano. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss Mae and John Vosburgh. All departed bidding him farewell and wishing a safe return.

  John A. Vosburgh. 75, of 14 Vista Ave., Latham, retired gasoline service station owner, and father of Grafton town justice of the peace Robert H. Vosburgh, died Thursday in Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
  Mr. Vosburgh was born and educated in Utica.
  For 30 years he operated a gasoline service station at State and River Streets in Troy and for nine years prior to retirement operated a station on Route 9 in Latham.
  He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church of Latham.
  Besides Judge Vosburgh, he is survived by his wife, the former Magadlena A. Alsheimer; two other sons, Dr. John A. Vosburgh of Coxsackie and Andrew E. Vosburgh, of Latham; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Gidley and Mrs. Gerald Whitman of Latham; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Guido of Whitesboro; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
  The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Robert F. Dufresne Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, and 10:30 a.m. from St. Anwrose Church where a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy Road, Niskayuna.

Pvt. Andrew E. Vosburgh of Watervliet was injured by a lightning bolt during a thunderstorm at Camp Ibis, Cal., it was learned yesterday. Pvt. James A. Maxwell, of Rolle Mo., was electrocuted during the storm and four other privates were also injured, the Associated Press reported. Vosburgh is recovering in a hospital. No announcement was made as to the extent of his injuries.

  Greenwich — The marriage of Miss Mary Eileen Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ryan, and Andrew E. Vosburgh, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Vosburgh of Latham, was solemnized at a double ring ceremony at St. Joseph's Church Sunday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m., by the Rev. George Eagan.
  Mrs. Floyd A'Hearn, church organist, played traditional wedding music, and Edward Nedeau of Troy sang Ave Maria and On This Day, O Beautiful Mother. The church was attractively decorated with white gladioli.
  Miss Helen Louise Ryan, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and the bridegroom's brother, Robert H. Vosburgh of Latham, was best man. Ushers were John Vosburgh of Troy, also a brother of the bridegroom, and Hale Jacobsen of Troy. Mr. Ryan gave his daughter in marriage.
   The bride wore a wedding gown of white marquisette designed with a fitted, long-waisted bodice and peplum, Gibson sleeves, bouffant skirt and train. An off-shoulder effect was given by a yoke of marquisette, outlined with a diminutive ruffle of Chantilly lace. The peplum was also lace trimmed. Her off-the-face veil was trimmed with seed pearls and she carried a bouquet of white roses surrounding a colored orchid, with white streamers.
  The maid of honor was dressed in Nile green tulle with a fitted bodice and bouffant skirt, tulle yoke and cap sleeves. The yoke and skirt of her gown were trimmed with tulle ruffles and she wore a tiara of Nile green hairbraid with a shoulder veil. She carried a bouquet of pale yellow roses and gladioli.
   Mrs. Ryan wore navy blue with a corsage of red roses and Mrs. Vosburgh, mother of the bridegroom, was dressed in light blue and wore a corsage of pink roses. A reception, attended by 100 guests, was held at the Ryan home, which was decorated with mixed flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Vosburgh left for a wedding trip to the New England coast. For traveling Mrs. Vosburgh wore a green linen  suit with white accessories and an ofchid corsage. On their return they will reside at Latham.
  Mrs. Vosburgh is a graduate of Greenwich High School and the Albany Business College. She is employed by the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company in Albany. Mr. Vosburgh, a graduate of Watervliet High School, is a veteran of World War 2, having served overseas in the European theater. He is proprietor of a gasoline station at Latham.

  The Rev. Charles, M. Dodge performed the ceremony at his home, 714 Rutger. The attendants were Miss Betty Jane Miller, sister of the bride, and Edward O. McLoughlin Jr., brother of the bridegroom.
  After a wedding dinner at the bride's home, the couple left on a trip. They will live in Utica.

Guido in Whitesboro in 1931 He died in 1959. She married Lawrence F. Guido in 1961 at St. Pauls Church, Whitesboro. Mrs Guido was a charge nurse at Marcy Psychiatric Center from 1929 until 1942, and was head cashier at Acme Super Market, retiring in 1961. She was a member of the Whitesboro Fire Department Ladies Auxillary.
  Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Donald J Guido, one 1 daughter, Mrs,. Kenneth R. (Joan. B) Williams, both of Whitesboro; four grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  The funeral will be at 8:15 Monday from the J. W Dimbleby Funeral Home, and 9 am from St Paul's Church. Interment in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9.

  Whitesboro — Joseph J. Guido, 49, of 4 Victory Parkway, died suddenly last night in his home.
   Dr. T. W. Piekielniak, Oneida County coroner, said Mr. Guido died of a heart condition.
   Mr. Guido was a former special police officer for the Village of Whitesboro and was active in sports boosters clubs.
  He was born Aug, 15,1910, in Whitesboro, the son of Ralph and Catherine Geragitano Guido. He was educated In the Whitesboro schools and was active in varsity sports.
   From 1927 to 1941, Mr. Guido was employed at Marcy State Hospital. In 1941, he entered the employ of the Bossert Corp., Utica, where he worked until 1957 when he became a traffic officer for Whitesboro Central School. His last place of employment was the Whitestown Construction Co.
   In addition to his participation and coaching of athletic teams, Mr. Guido was Scoutmaster for Troop 36, BSA.
  He was a member of the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, and the Whitesboro Fire Department.
  He married Helen Vosburgh of Utica, June 11, 1931.
  Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Miss Joan Guido; a son, Donald, both of Whitesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Cresent and Mrs. John Angelino, both of Whitesboro, and Mrs. John Dischiavi, of Clinton; a brother; Salvatore, Utica; an aunt, Mrs. Ralph Comito, Utica; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  The funeral will, be at 9 Wednesday from the Dimbleby Funeral Home, Main at Brainard St., Whitesboro and at 9:30 from St. Paul's Church where a solemn requiem Mass will be offered. - Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.

  — Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Scruton and son and family, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Scruton and daughter, Marjorie, all of Anniston, Ala., are here for a visit with Mrs. Scruton's mother, Mrs. Frank Llewellyn, and sister, Mrs. Reginald Joslyn. Many will recall Mr. Scruton as superintendent of the knitting mill about 1917. They went south with the knitting company, when it, with other plants of the Utica Knitting Company was moved about 1932, and settled in Anniston where Mr. Scruton has continued as an executive of the company.

  Courtland M. Scruton, aged 67, of Anniston, Ala., a native of Utica and former superintendent of the Utica Knitting Company plant in Richfield Springs, Oriskany Falls and Anniston, died Saturday in the Anniston Hospital, after a long illness.
  He was bom February 22, 1892, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Scruton of Utica. He married Marjorie Llewellyn of Richfield Springs in Utica in 1917. He attended Utica schools and was transfered from the Utica Knitting Co. plant to the Richfield Springs plant as foreman. He was later promoted to superintendent, later transferred to the Oriskany Falls plant and back to the. Richfield Springs plant When the Richfield Springs plant closed over 25 years ago, he was made assistant manager at the Anniston plant and later promoted to manager, he was retired for illness three years ago, but continued on with the plant as consultant.
   Mr. Scruton attended the Richfield Springs First Presbyterian Church and while there was also a member of the Eight-Four-Ten Club, the Boosters Club and was organizing president of the Exchange Club. He was also a member of the Waterville Masonic Lodge F. & A. M.
  Surviving are his wife; a son, James Scruton of Anniston; a granddaughter, Marjorie of Anniston; two brothers, Earl Scruton and James Scruton, both of Utica; three sisters, Mrs. Harry C. Gross and Mrs. Malcolm E. Washburn, both of Utica, and Mrs. George E Campbell of Elmwood Park. Ill.
  Funeral services were held at 2 p. m., on Monday from the Gray-Brown Funeral Chapel in Anniston. Burial was in Anniston.

  The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Frances Joslyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Reginald Stansfield Joslyn, to John Seaton McGrath, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. McGrath. was solemnized in St. Josephs Catholic Church at noon Tuesday, May 21st. The Reverend Arthur J. Kelly officiated. The alter of the church was very prettily decorated with lilies and other flowers.
  The bride was gowned in white silk marquisette with a Juliette cap and finger tip veil and carried white roses. Her maid of honor, Miss Georgia Rausch of Syracusje, wore blue silk marquisette and matching finger tip Veil with yellow roses. The groom was attended by Sam Theifelder of Ilion as best man.
  The ushers were Harold McGrath and Lester Waters of Ilion, and Burrill W. House and Harry H. Tuller of Richfield Springs.
  Owen Brady, Jr., played the organ. and Miss Eleanor McDonough and Joseph Famulare sang.
  Following the ceremony a reception for the relatives and close friends of the bride and groom, about 60 persons, was held at the Richneld Springs Country Club, after which Mr. and Mrs John Seaton McGrath departed on their wedding trip.
  The bride was graduated from Richfield Springs High School in 1938, the groom from, the Ilion High School in 1934. Mr. McGrath is also a graduate of the American Academy in New York City. He is associated with his father In the undertaking business and is also manager of the Richfield Springs Country Club.
  Mr. and Mrs. McGrath will live at the country club during the summer months.

  Harry A. Llewellyn, 76, of South Street, Richfield Springs, a former Waterville resident, died Sunday, May 29, in his home. He was born March 1, 1907, in the Town of Richfield, son of Frank and Elizabeth Snedecker Llewellyn. He married Katherine Brown on Sept. 18, 1926. She died in 1966. Mr. Llewellyn was employed by the Waterville Knitting Company from 1933 to 1955. From 1955 until his retirement in 1971, he was a supervisor at Duofold Inc. in Mohawk. He was a member of Old Presbyterian Church, Richfield Springs. Mr. Llewellyn leaves a daughter, Mrs. Nathan (Bertha) Rogers of Brookfield; a son, Alfred Llewellyn of Richfield Springs, and two sisters, Mrs. Reginald (Mary) Joslin of Richfield Springs and Mrs. Cortland (Marjorie) Scruton of Anniston, Ala. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Guy. The funeral was Wednesday from the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.

She was born in the Town of Otsego, daughter of Karl and Bertha Atkins Brown. She attended Richfield Springs schools. She was married to Mr. Llewellyn in 1926. The couple lived in Richfield Springs until 1933 when they moved to Waterville. They returned to the area in 1957. Mrs. Llewellyn had been an employee of Duofold Co. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Waterville. Besides her husband she leaves a son, Alfred, Richfield Springs, a daughter, Mrs. Nathan (Bertha) Rogers Jr., Brookfield; a brother, Karl Brown Jr., Richfield Springs, and two sisters, Mrs. Fern Crist, Richfield Springs, and Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Peplinski, Fly Creek. The funeral was Wednesday from the McGrath Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Gendron, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Waterville, officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.

  Raymond Henry Schooley, manager and co-owner of H. E. Schooley & Co., Richfield Springs, former financial advertising manager of the New York Herald Tribune and veteran of World War I, expired in his car in front of the office of Dr. Harrie V. Frink at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, August 14. Be was 64 years old. Mr. Schooley was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage Just after he had entered his car in front of the bank building to depart for Saratoga in company with his three daughters and son-in-law. He was hurried to the doctor's office and expired just as Dr. Frink reached his side. He had been under the doctor's care for the past two years.
  He was born in Richfield Springs on March 26, 1884, a son ot Herbert and Minnie Llewellyn Schooley. Following graduation from Richfield Springs High School in 1902 he entered the employ of Park & Tilford in New York. In 1905 he enlisted in the United States Navy receiving his discharge at his own request in 1909 with the rank of Gunner's Mate First Class. He was on the U.S.S. Connecticut under Captain William Swift, a summer resident of Richfield Springs, when that fighting unit was the flagship of the strong fleet sent on a world cruise by President Theodore Roosevelt from December 1907 to February 1909, to show other nations that Uncle Sam had a fighting fleet.
  From 1910 to 1920 Mr. Schooley worked in the advertising department of "The New York American." His work there was interrupted by World War I when he returned to the Navy with the rank of Ensign and saw action in the Atlantic.
  He joined the business staff of the New York Tribune as a financial advertising solicitor in 1920 and was appointed financial advertising manager of the New York Herald Tribune when "The New York Herald" and the New York Tribune were merged in 1924. Mr. Schooley became vice-president of the "Home Owners Service Institute" in 1927 and two years later opened his own office at 67 William Street. New York, where he represented "The St. Louis Post-Dispatch." "The Milwaukee Journal" "The Washington Star" and other newspapers for financial advertising. He later became advertising manager of the magazine "Finance" and subsequently worked for "The Wall Street Journal"
  In 1938 he returned to his native community to engage in the lumber business conducted by his father, H.E. Schooley, in which he had a large financial stake. He took over the management of the business at the death of his father, and conducted it with his brother. Glenn L. Schooley, co-partner.
  Mr. Schooley was a member of Hugick-Purcell-Shepard Pose No. 616, American Legion. He was a staunch Republican and functioned as local chairman for the Wilkie forces when Wendell Wilkie was Republican candidate for president.
  He married Anna George of New York City in the Little Church Around the Corner on October 17. 1911. Her death occurred here on July 31. 1947.
  Surviving are three daughters. Miss Hazel Louise Schooley of Northfield, Mass., Miss Helen Elizabeth Schooley, of Mt. Herman, Mass.. and Mrs. Joseph P. Dibble of Richfield Springs: a brother. Glenn; two sisters. Miss Pearl Schooley and Mrs. Benjamin J. Lewis of Richfield Springs: and an aunt. Mrs. Henry-Lane of this village.
  The funeral was held at the McGrath Funeral Home Monday, at 2 p.m.. with the Rev. C. Frederic Fraser of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in Lake View Cemetery.  
   At the cemetery, the Rev. Roscoe C. Hatch, chaplain of Huglck-Purcell-Shepard American Legion Post of this village, read the American Legion service, while Navy color guard composed of Robert H. Conklin. Jack T Leslie, Marion Ames, and Dwight Brewer, stood at attention at the grave. The bearers were Henry Frink, Harry W. Smith Jr., Robert J. Conklln, J. Bernard Dibble, Harry Tuller, and James McKee Jr.

  Richfleld Springs — Mrs. Anna George Schooley, wife of Raymond H. Schooley, died in Memorial Hospital, Herkimer, July 31, 1947, after an illness of several weeks.
  She was born in Brooklyn Sept. 15, 1888, a daughter of Leonard and Cecelia Hoesel George. She was educated in Brooklyn and New York schools. She was married to Raymond H. Schooley in New York Oct. 17, 1911. With her husband and daughters, she moved to Richfield Springs in 1938. Before then they had lived in a cottage on Canadaraga Lake each summer for 18 years.
  Mrs Schooley attended the Presbyterian Church and was active in all its organizations. She was activein the Philiathea Union.
  Surviving are her husband; three daughters. Hazel Schooley, East Northfield, Mass.,. Mrs. Joseph, Dibble. Richfield Springs, and Miss Helen Schooley, Mount Hermon, Mass; one sister, Mrs. H. Alex Johnson, Red Bank, N J.
  The funeral will be at 2 p. m. tomorrow from the McGrath Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. Frederic Fraser, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

  Miss Hazel L. Schooley of East Northfield, Mass., was her sister's only attendant and Mr, Edward Johnson of West Barnstable served as best man. Ushers were the Reverend Orvil E. Mirtz of Mount Hermon and Mr. Eino Pennala of Collinsville, Conn. Mr. Joseph F. Dibble of Richfield Springs, gave his sister-in-law in marriage.
  Mrs. Wirtanen attended schools in New York, is a graduate of the Richfield Springs High School and Utica School of Commerce, a member of Alpha Iota, and has been employed in the editorial office of The Bride's Magazine. Mr. Wirtanen is a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, served as a lieutenant commander with the United States Navy, and is now associated with the Cambridge (Mass.) Power and Light Company.
