Mrs. Frank Swain, 54, 115 S. Jay St., died last night in Rome Hospital. She had been ill since Saturday. Phoebe Wilder was born Dec. 20, 1890 at Albion, daughter of Hiram and Sarah A. Phillips Wilder. On Feb. 18, 1911 she was married to Frank Swain. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and of the missionary societies of the Wesleyan and the Christian and Missionary Alliance churches. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Sarah Ann Countryman, Rome; her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Boyd Tuthill, Rome, and two sons, Francis and Frank Swain jr. of this city.

Frank Swain. 87. of 115 S.Jay St., retired landscape gardener at Rome State School, died Thursday in Stonehedge Nursing Home after a long illness.
He had been employed at the State School for 36 years, retiring n 1954. At one time he was chauffeur for Dr. William B. Reid, now deceased.
Mr. Swain was born in Hasting, England, July 11, 1886, son of George Z. and Mary Ann Law Swain. He was educated in England and came to this country in 1907.
He was twice married. His first wife, the former; Phoebe Wilder, died April 8, 1945. On Sept. 10, 1947, in the Westmoreland Methodist Church, he married Angeline Beckwith.
Mr. Swain was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Boyd (Louise) Tuthill. Rome; two sons, Frank Swain Jr., Nyack, and Francis Swain, Sylvan Beach; six stepdaughters, Mrs. William R. Hoffman, Mrs. Edwin Fike and Mrs. Frederick E. Beckwith, Rome; Mrs. Lloyd Wyman, Sandy Pond; Mrs. Joseph L. Heywood, Auburn, and Mrs. Elmer Liebi, Lee Center; two stepsons, Richard W. Beckwith, Rome, and Jesse L. Beckwith, Blossvale; and several great grandchildren and great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Prince & Boyd Home for Funerals Saturday at 10 with interment in Rome Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. "John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

PHILLIPS. Dorothy (Steele) Phillips, 83, of Portland, formerly of Manchester, wife of the late Gordon W. She worked in the data processing department for the Jacobs Manufacturing Co., Bloomfield, with whom she had over 20 years of service until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Phillips is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Dorothy Steele of Portland; a brother-in-in-law, russell A. - Newspaper Article (Utica Daily Press, NY, Tuesday, October 31, 1916)- Maddened Animal Charges Car Containing Raymond Stringer, on River Road, and Causas Damage.
A maddened bull charged an auto being driven over the River road, near the Nine Mile Creek bridge, by Raymond Stringer, chauffeur for the Beach Lumber Company. Saturday evening, and before the car could, be speeded up to out-distance him the animal had gored the side of the machine, causing damage estimated at $40 and came near reaching the occupant. Mr. Stringer reported the attack to the Utica police.

Mrs. Richard G. Rahn, sister of the bride was matron of honor and Mrs. Lawrence J. Bohner, another sister was bridesmaid. The best man was Theodore E. Remmer of Marcy, and the ushers were Frank Hielage, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Floyd Jones.
A reception took place in the bride's home after which the couple left for a trip to the western part of the state. They will be at home after Feb. 15, at 325 Blandina.
The bride attended local schools and has been employed at the Rome Army Air Field. The bridegroom reciently received his discharge from the Army Air Force after serving two and one-half years in the South Pacific with the Fifth Air Force.

Parish -- Mrs. May Spoor Allen, 77, of Montgomery St., died Friday afternoon, May 6, in the Community hospital in Syracuse after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Allen was born in Parish, Sept. 19, 1888, daughter of Alfred and Emma Lonis Spoor and had resided here all her life. She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
Surviving are: a son; Stanley, Branchpoint; six daughters, Mrs. Denton [sic] (Dorothy) Bowers, Altmar; Mrs. Sylvia Woolworth, Parish; Mrs. Glenn (Mildred) Smith, Parish; Mrs, Hugh (Inez) Trumble, Altmar; Mrs. Esther Spear Liverpool; and Mrs. Elton (Nellie) Phillips, Williamstown; 38 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Marlon Rice, Parish.
Funeral services Were held Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at the Barter Funeral home with the Rev. Charles Rudd, pastor of the Parish Methodist church, officiating and burial was in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery.

PARISH, Aug. 15 — James Martin Allen, 57, died Wednesday afternoon at Crouse-Irving hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for three days. He was bom at Parish in 1883 and lived here all his life.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. May Spoor Allen; six daughters. Mrs. Dorothy Spedding of Altmar, Mrs. Sylvia Woolworth of Camden. Mrs. Mildred Smith of parish, Mrs. Inez Trumbull and Mrs. Esther Spear of Altmar, and Mrs. Nellie Phillips of Williamstown; two sons, Floyd and Stanley of Parish: two sisters, Mrs. Emma Voorhees, ov Syracuse, amd Mrs. Elsie French of Mexico, and 14 grandchildren.
Prayer service will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home, and rites will be held in Mills-Petrie Memorial chapel, this village, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Stanley E. Skinner of East Hamilton Methodist church will officiate., and burial will be in Pleasant Lawn cemetery.

Born May 30, 1907, in Parish, she was graduated from Parish High School.
She was married in 1949 to Dexter L. Bowers, with whom she owned and operated a farm on County Rt. 48 near Altmar. She also was employed at General Electric Co. in Syracuse for 19 years, retiring in 1970.
Surviving besides her husband are a brother, Stanley Allen of Port Byron, and five sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Woolworth of Fulton, Mrs. Mildred Smith of Parish Mrs. Esther Spear of Liverpool, Mrs. Inez Trumble of Altmar and Mrs. Nellie Phillips of Williamstown. PULASKI.— Mrs. May Allen, Parish, has received word that her son, PFC Lloyd Allen, 24. died of wounds suffered in battle in Germany April 20. The announcement was in the form of a telegram from the war department and did not include details. He had been attached to Gen. Simpson's Ninth army and had been overseas about seven weeks.
PFC Allen was born in Parish on April 1, 1921. He was a graduate of. Parish High school and prior to joining the army had worked in Syracuse. He entered service Aug. 19, 1942. and was stationed at Camp Davis. N. C., Camp Hulen, Tex., and Camp Livingston, La. He was home on furlo in January from Fort George G. Meade. Md., and went overseas shortly thereafter.
Surviving, besides his mother, are; one brother, Stanley Allen, Parish, and six sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Spedding, Mrs. Hugh Trumble, Mrs. Norman B. PFC. ALLEN LOSES LIFE IN GERMANY
PARISH— Pfc. Lloyd Allen, 24, died in Germany on April 20 from battle injuries according to a War Department telegram, received by his mother, Mrs. May Allen of Parish. No details were given. Pfc. Allen had been overseas only about two months and was with the Field Artillery in Gen. Simpson's Ninth Army.
He was born in Parish April 1, 1921, and was the son of Mrs. May and the late James Allen. He was a graduate of Parish High school and before entering army service on Aug. 19, 1942, had worked in Syracuse. He had been stationed at Camp Hulen, Texas, Camp Davis, N. C.Mexico Independent- January 13, 1949
Military honors were rendered by members of Russell Horning Post, American Legion, Wednesday at the Mills and Petrie Memorial chapel for Pfc. Lloyd S. Allen, killed in action April 20, 1945, in Germany.
The body arrived under escort Monday and was taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. May Allen. He was a graduate of Parish High school, class of 1941, and entered the army in August, 1941. He lost his life carrying out a specially hazardous mission.
He is survived by his mother, one brother, Stanley, of East Syracuse, six sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bowers, Mrs. Inez Trumble, Mrs. Esther Spear, Altmar; Mrs. Sylvia Woolworth, Camden; Mrs. Mildred Allen, Parish; and Mrs. Nellie Phillips, Williamstown.
Burial was in Pleasant Lawn cemetery, Parish

Earl S. Richardson, 70, of Parish RD 1, died Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Laura Cole at Dugway where he was visiting. Mr. Richardson was born in the Town of Albion and was a retired employee of the State Department of Public Works. He was sexton at the Dugway Cemetery. Surviving besides his sister, Mrs. Cole, are: a daughter, Ms. Andrew Voiusinos, Syracuse; four other sisters, Mrs. Fannie Towsley of Syracuse; Mrs. Ella Hubbard of Parish; Mrs. Lydia Miller of Sandy Creek and Mrs. Luella Month of Pulaski, also several nieces and nephews. Asa Spoor, 60, of RD 1, Altmar and a widely-known resident of the Howardville district, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his head at his farm home about 7:30 o'clock this morning.
His body was found by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Spoor, in the barn. A 12-gauge shotgun lay beside him and there wait large wound in his head.
Dr. A. B. Thompson of Pulaski who was summoned, pronounced Mr. Spoor dead and an investigation was made by Troopers Secor and Catignolo of the Pulaski sub-station of the State Police, as well as Assistant District Attorney William A. Hoag of Sandy Creek. The latter released the body to the Harter Funeral Home at Parish.
Mr. Hoag said he was advised by Mrs. Spoor that her husband arose at the usual hour this morning and went to the barn to do his chores. When Mr. Spoor failed to return to the house his wife became worried and going to the barn found her husband lying on the floor. Mr. Hoag also said he was advised that Mr. Spoor had been depressed for some time, having developed diabetes.
Mr. Spoor had resided in the Howardville District the greater part of his life. He had been employed by the Oswego County Highway Department since 1935 as a skilled laborer. In addition to his work in the highway department he conducted his small farm.
Surviving besides his wife are twb daughters, Mrs. Donald Wiltse and Mrs. Harold Hubbard and two grmndchildren.

Mrs. Gladys DeMelt Spoor, 79, of Howardville, died Saturday in Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital. She was born August 7, 1897, and was the daughter of Fred and Edna Wescott DeMelt. Mrs. Spoor attended local Howardville schools and also Pulaski Academy. Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Harold Hubbard of Pulaski, and Mrs. Donald Wiltsie of Parish, another daughter Doris is deceased. Burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery Dugway.

Marion Rice, 76, of Bangall Rd., Parish, died Monday in Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse after a long illness. She was a life resident of this area and lived most of her life on Rice Rd., Parish.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Rice; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Ascioti, Syracuse; a son, Walter Rice Sr., of Parish; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

PARISH - Clarence W. Rice, 78, of Rice Rd. died Tuesday evening in an area nursing home after a long illness.

Dr. Arthur Kendal Getman 81, retired educator, died Thursday, September 12 at the Stamford Hospital, Stamford, Conn., from a heart ailment. He resided at 7 Fox Hill Lane, Darien, Conn.
Dr. Getman was born in Richfield Springs on June 20, 1887, a son of Arthur R. Getman and Carrie G. Goodier. He was graduated from the Bronner Street High School in 1906, from Cornell University in 1911, and was awarded a Doctor of Science degree from Alfred University in 1931. He took post graduate studies at Columbia and Harvard Universities.
Dr. Getman served as head of the agricultural teaching department at Cortland State Teachers College from 1911 to 1915, when he went to Albany as a specialist New York State Department of in agricultural education in at Rutgers University, returning in 1919 to Albany as chief of the Bureau of Agricultural Education. He was well known for his lectures and books on agriculture and education, and lectured widely at colleges during the summer season. He was co-editor of a series of 14 agricultural texts published by John Wiley & Sons Inc., and wrote three books on education. He was interested in the Future Farmers of America, and American Vocational Association of which he was a director of research, vice president and president.
His interest in education, extended to the field of religion, and he served as Sunday School Superintendent and officer in the Albany Council of Churches and the New York State Council of Churches.
He was a former trustee of Green Mountain Junior College at Poultney, Vermont. In the 1950-51 edition of Who's Who in America, Dr. Getman was cited for his many contributions and interest in rural education. At the time of his retirement in January, 1952, he was Assistant Commissioner of Vocational Education in the New York State Department of Education. He then accepted assignment as consultant to the State Board of Regents in Moral and Spiritual Values Training.
Dr. Getman is survived by his wife, the former Fredella Babcock whom he married in 1912; one son, Kendall Goodier Getman, and two granddaughters.
A funeral service was held in the chapel of the Presbyterian Church in Darien on Monday. Burial of the cremated remains will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. A memorial service for Dr. Getman will be held at a later date in the Calvary Methodist Church in Albany, where Dr. Getman had been a member for over 50 years.

Mrs. Fredella Babcock Getnan, 82, of 7 Fox Hill Lane, Darien, Conn., died Sunday, December 28, at Stamford, Conn., Hospital. She was the widow of late Dr. Arthur Kendall Getman, Assistant Commissioner of Vocational Education of New York State.
Mrs. Getman was born Feb. 12, 1887, at Fly Creek, daughter of Eugene and Lodemia Eggleston Babcock. She attended scool [sic] at Cooperstown, and was graduated from Jamaica, N. Y., Normal School in 1906.
For fifty years she was a very active member of the Calvary Methodist Church in Albany.
Surviving is one son, Kendall G. Getman, of Dairien [sic], Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hyam of Pittsfield, Mass., and two granddaughters..
Funeral services were held at the Noroton Presbyterian Church /in Noroton, Conn., on Wednesday, Dec. 31, with the Rev. L. M. Horton officiating. Burial will be made in the spring in Lake View Cemetery, Richfield Springs, beside her husband

Goodier, and after his graduation at Cornell University he became professor of agriculture at the CortlandNorman School. Prof. A. Kendall Getman of the Normal school faculty and Miss Fredella Babcock of Rockaway Beach were married at the home of; the bride in Rockaway Beach on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 27, by Rev. J. C. Greene. Only the immediate families witnessed the ceremony.
Prof. Getman is a graduate of the Richfield High school and of Cornell university. He is an instructor in the Agricultural department at the Normal school. Mrs. Getman is a graduate of the Jamaica Normal school and has for several years taught in the schools of Greater New York. They will be at home at 70 North Main-st. after Jan. 15.

Oneida Castle, Sept. 18— Mrs. Adele Eola Avery, wife of Charles Avery, died this morning at her home, 32 E. Second St., Oneida Castle. She had lived here for six years. She was born on Feb. 1, 1881 in Herkimer County.
She was affiliated with the Woman's Relief Corps, of which she was treasurer for 14 years; Rebekah Lodge of Oneida, and a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, Fultonville.
Besides her husband Mrs. Avery is survived by one daughter, Miss Rena Avery, a teacher in Durhamvllle Union School; her parents Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Vosburgh. Oneida - Charels R. Avery, 65, retired merchant and former Oneida Limited employe, died Apr 16, 1943, in a Utica hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Stittville July 19, 1877, a son of George F. and Emma Avery. His father was an Oneida building contractor. He was a telegrapher for New York Central Railroad for a time. Later he operated a general cnady and tobacco store on the site of Galbraith Brothers and for 25 years he worked for the silverware company.
His affiliations included First Methodist Church, Eumienia Lodge of Odd Fellows and Adeieso Encampment.
Surviving are a daughter, Rena V. Avery, teache rin Washington Avenue School and a brother, Edwin E Avery of Jewell. the funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Campbell Funeral Home with the Rev, James J Morley, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Ballston Spa Rotary Club paid tribute, at its luncheon meeting Tuesday at the Tam C'Shanter to James M. Beverley, 75 who died Thursday, Oct. 24, at his home on Dunning St. Mr. Beverley was a member, and past president of the club. He joined in 1923 and served as president in 1926-27.
Before his retirement in 1954, Mr. Beverley had been president of the Ballston Spa - Stillwater Knitting Co. From 1938-44, he was director of the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers. He was formerly associated with the late Floyd J. Shutts in the wholesale dry goods business in Amsterdam.
Mr. Beverley was a member and senior warden at the Bethesda Episcopal Church, Saratoga Springs. He was a trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany. He served as director of the Benedict Memorial Hospital board.
In 1964 he received his 50year medal as a life member of the Fultonville Lodge 531. F. and A.M. He belonged to the Johnstown Chapter R. and A.M. and Council C. and S.M. and the Washington Commandery, Saratoga Springs; Oriental Temple, Troy and the Lake Placid Club. He once served as a member of the Saratoga County Council, Boy Scouts of America, executive board.
Mr. Beverley is survived by his son, James M. Beverley, Jr.; a grandaughter, Heather Carol Beverley and a grandson, James M. Beverley, III, all of Loudonville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bethesda Episcopal Church with Rev. Thomas T. Park and Rev. Swasey Crocker officiating. Honorary bearers were Mayer Isenberg, Edward I. Leahy, Ralph Ecobelli, William G. Baxter, Arthur C. Koch, George H. Pierce and former members of the vestry. Active bearers were Duane C. Fuller, James I . Carrolan, Charles Higley, Jr., Charles 0. Boyce, Donald C. Streever and Alfred L. Simon.
